I feel bad about how much I hate those "Actually, Native Americans/African tribes (don’t worry about which specific tribes or nations ok just trust me) revered trans people and made them priestesses or honored leaders” posts because idk man, I know they’re supposed to be positive but that kind of just sounds like gender roles with extra steps

#but for real the conflation of 'viewed gender and sexuality differently than we do now'#with 'everyone was totally cool and open and accepting about all queer people and how they expressed themselves'#seems . . . not great #and i'd also say it's not great to whittle complicated and nuanced indigenous cultures #down to 'all (absolutely vast swaths of nations and peoples) were one homogenous culture who Loved Trans People :D'#and also those posts NEVER come with any type of sources or research on indigenous cultures #it's very obvious they're just parroting something they heard online once
