What do you think about the hinted possibility that Rin lives A LOT longer than everyone else? What about Yukio (he sorta awakens, right?)? What are some your headcanons for say, 20-25 years into the future?

oh I go sort of insane for that, actually. 100% I feel like it's something that has, in fact, occurred to Rin as a possibility that he is very deliberately not thinking about and will continue to not think about until he literally finds himself without that luxury anymore. his friends are all getting older, but he still doesn't look that different from when he was in his mid-twenties.

(or: Rin suddenly gets really, really busy at work all of a sudden and can't make time to see his friends- until Shura gets sick of his crap and drags him into an intervention.)

personally I just love the headcanon that the (now former) exwires make sure to take really good care of their health so that they can live as long as possible, but they also make sure to basically entrench rin into their families so that even after they're gone, rin's not alone.

(shiemi lives to the ripe old age of like. 115, by the way. that's not even due to the fact that she's a nephilim she'd just do that anyways lmao. tiny grandma and her handsome, absurdly youthful husband who still says she's as beautiful as the day they met.)

I think Yukio has a normal human lifespan myself. he's human, after all. His death 100% hits Rin the hardest, and he sticks to Yukio's side like glue once it becomes obvious he doesn't have much time left. Rin says the younger brother isn't supposed to die first, but Yukio just chuckles and reminds him he was only born a few minutes ahead of him.

(but also: very cute to imagine Rin basically taking care of his friends in their old age. I imagine they all stay relatively spry, but Suguro. if you don't get down off that ladder this instant. you are going to give me a heart attack, you geezer! they get a little frustrated sometimes because Rin kind of treats them like they're made of glass, but they do understand where he's coming from, at least.)
