So I said this in the tags of my last post, but then I went wacky and doodled up some pages of this other AU idea that stemmed from the idea of that comic I did

In this AU, Miles goes to Diego Armando’s office a few weeks after the Fawles trial. There is no cocky, arrogant, or smug air about him like there was during the trial and instead he seems really shaken and nervous. Diego’s like “hey what’s wrong?” And Miles is quiet but then says that he needs help. He tells Diego that he can’t get the image of Fawles’s suicide out of his head and that he has no one he can talk to about this. Diego asks about Miles’s mentor, but Miles says that there’s absolutely no way he could ever go to his mentor for help with emotional stuff because it would show “weakness” and he also isn’t comfortable with von Karma. To make a long story short (because I’ve thought so much about this), Miles ends up pleading with Diego to protect him from von Karma just in case he goes after him for switching sides to be a defense attorney. He knows that von Karma will see him as weak and a traitor for switching teams after a single case, but Miles can’t be someone he’s not. Diego points out that Miles seems to be trying to be who von Karma wanted him to be. So he asks Miles what he wants to be, and Miles responds by saying he wants to be his dad (just like in my 1985 animatic 😭).

So Miles decides to renounce prosecution. He rips off his cravat and throws it in the garbage in Diego’s office and declares that he’ll become a defense attorney. He also asks Diego is he could be his mentor to help him in both being better at defense law and also just being better with interacting with people.

He joins the Grossberg Law Offices and works alongside Mia and Diego to gather evidence on Dahlia Hawthorne, as he now too believes that she has done terrible things.

After Diego is poisoned, Miles freaks out because people just keep dying or getting hurt around him and it scares him. (Oh…baby boy just wait until Mia dies too-)

He takes the case to defend Phoenix, gets TERRIFIED when Phoenix eats the poison necklace, and then at the end, Phoenix was like “oh wow! You’re a defense attorney now?? Lmao when did that happen??” Bc he had been too busy simping over Dahlia. But Miles tells him that he should still pursue law so that they could work together and also so that Phoenix’s law classes and studying wouldn’t have gone to waste. So Phoenix becomes a lawyer and works with Miles and Mia at the Fey & Co Law Offices until she dies and then it becomes Edgeworth & Co Law Offices because he had been a lawyer for longer.

I like the idea that in this AU, Phoenix and Miles obviously have huge crushes on each other, but these idiots still refuse to acknowledge or admit it <3

Also :((( when Diego wakes up, he still goes on his whole antagonist arc as Godot, and Miles refuses to tell Phoenix the truth about who he is. See, I also like the idea that in this AU, Nick and Miles are still as cagey with their past and truths as they are in normal AA

As you can see, I am perfectly normal !! I think about ace attorney a very normal amount!! 🤭

Sauron's action of forcefully binding Galadriel to him by stabbing her with the crown has opened a huge can of worms in my head. The episode ends saying some things are lost forever and it got me thinking about how insane it is that he was willing to give up a part of her light in a sense just so he can Keep her, because he is Greedy, because he might lose her otherwise (well, he probably thought he was cooking by taking the "touch the darkness" to another level but that is beyond the point right now).

He marks her because he is desperate. He would rather risk have her completely corrupted than not have her at all, despite her absolute light being one of the factors that drew him in from the beginning.

Also worthy of mention how he literally lost his mind with Celebrimbor. He was pretty intent on going full "I will keep you alive through torture" but as soon as Celebrimbor pulled at his strings (masterfully must I say), Sauron lost his shit. He cried. He was terribly impulsive at that moment and I personally think it shaped their interaction afterwards. Not to add how he simply appeared and killed Adar with theatrics instead of... I don't know? Emotionally manipulating them further? Playing with Galadriel? In any case, it makes sense that he got a perfect payback but then again, he literally came out of nowhere and ruined her date (exchanging armies is kind of Galadriel's love language at this point).

All of this to say... Somewhere in the Future, it is not impossible for me to imagine that Celeborn returns, Galadriel and he have some emotional moment or whatever thinking "Oh let us have a nice life for a little while. Let us forget about your ongoing divorce with the Dark Lord to indulge in married couple affairs" and Sauron is out there watching through his live service wound-webcam feeling repulsed. He says (again) "Touch the darkness once more" so he makes an apparition Rosemary's baby style but worse because he'll be there to weaken her resolve and make her admit she's longing for him instead just for a little moment and then boom! Celebrian. 100 years of delicious denial/hurt/comfort/longing/hating/etc. After the season 2 finale, I wouldn't put it above him tbh. I saw someone say the last ep was for the dead dove enjoyers and I couldn't agree more...

i heard a lot of bad things about vertical's translations of the monogatari novels, i was pretty indifferent about hanamonogatari (first vertical translation i read, translated by daniel joseph), i thought it was pretty alright.

but i just read the latter half of suruga monkey as translated by ko ransom and man, that was kind of amazing actually. i can't speak for the accuracy of the translation in either case but the written prose really did it justice.

Corunir returned to the valley again, as he always does.

He was merely meant to scout the edges of the marsh today, but his feet led him here instead, the path so familiar now he hardly needed to think about it.

He looks out over the stony expanse, the great winged shadows of the Watchers loom over the place so many of his brothers died, unmoving, silent, their glassy eyes black and lifeless, appearing dormant.

It's a trap, he knows it, their vigil never ceases. If he walks forward and comes close enough, their eyes will alight and their malice will bare down upon him with the same force that slew so many of his kin before. It's the same trap they always used, yet they never thought to change their act.

Probably because it always works on him.

His eyes fall to the bleached bones scattered about the statues' bases. He tries to remember their faces when they were alive, his friends, his brothers in arms, laughing together, but all he can see in his mind's eye is their cold dead faces staring back at him- back when they still had faces. At one point he thought that, even if he could not cross the Rammas, maybe he could at least get close enough to retrieve their bodies and lay them to rest somewhere- anywhere else.

But he failed. Again and again and again. Succumbing to the malice of the Watchers before he could crawl close enough to grab hold of even one of them, feeling his heart close to failing him as he stared into the vacant clouded eyes on his brothers, the terror that slew them still etched upon their faces. In those moments some part of him hoped that his heart would fail him, that as a kind of punishment for failing to save his brothers, for failing to come to his captain's aid, that he should share in their fate beneath the cursed Watchers.

He had not yet been allowed to die there with them, though. One of the Trev Gallorg always comes by looking for him sooner rather than later, and some way or another managed to drag him back from that fate.

He's grateful that they bring him back. He does not want to die there, not truly. He will not be of much help to anyone dead. But either the Watchers or his own guilt have a way of making him forget that he wants to live. Especially in this valley. Especially when he gets close to the remains of his brothers.

He looks back up at the Watchers. They have not changed. Their eyes are black and lifeless. This trap, that they know he knows is a trap, has begun to feel more like a cruel joke than anything. It is as if they're taunting him. Somehow. Whatever spell has been laid upon them must have granted them the intelligence to understand cruelty, and to act upon it. They are taunting him.

A strange kind of anger bubbles up in his heart, spurring his feet to bring him forward into what he knows full well might kill him, but in this moment he is not inclined to care.

First he walks. He thinks again of his fallen comrades, he thinks of their families they will never see again, he thinks of Golodir and Lorniel somewhere on the other side of this valley, in need of aid.

He breaks into a sprint.

He draws near to his fallen friends. The Watchers' eyes spring to life, the full weight of their terror and malice baring down upon him at once.

It forces him to his hands and knees. He claws at the stony dirt just to inch forward, heart pounding in his ears. Just a little farther, just a little more. He has to get to them. He's close now isn't he?

With immeasurable effort he manages to pry his eyes off the ground and look ahead. He's not even a quarter of the way through. He can see his friends' bones more clearly now, he's almost close enough to join them.

A little further is all he manages before the weight becomes too much to bear. He collapses onto the ground, with neither the strength to cry nor to tell them he's sorry.

Later on, some of the Trev Gallorg come by. Whenever Corunir fails to return from a scouting expedition, this is the first place they look for him. They are not surprised to find him collapsed beneath the Watchers.

He's still alive when they manage to drag him back. For better or worse, he is nothing if not stubborn.

They know he will return to this place, and nothing they say will persuade him from it, not until he succeeds- or more likely breaks him utterly.

Mostly wanted to go for a bird motif.. the og blue wasn't looking too good so green it is! He's a light mage since he would be taking Espresso's role.
