#it's seriously draining because I honestly feel sometimes like I can't enjoy things without picking them apart and being angry about them

Queen Mother in "The Crown" season 2: "All to open things up. Bring us more in line with the real world. Democratize us. And so it goes. The stings and bites we suffer as it slips away. Bit by bit, piece by piece. Our authority, our absolutism, our divine rights."
The empath and storyteller in me: It is indeed a monumental and very human struggle to watch oneself become irrelevant, to have stood on solid ground for so long and suddenly find that the ground is no longer as stable as one previously thought. That such lengths have been gone to in order to protect one from that foundation collapsing, even if it means you are lied to or not told things, that it's only when a piece of it falls out from under you that you realize how precarious your position is. It's natural to wish to cling to what you have, the sentimentality of it, the security it once offered, the sense of purpose and belonging. But a mature individual—not even necessarily a wise one or a smart one, but at the very least a mature and forward thinking one who sees the greater import of preparing for the future over clinging to the past—understands that you can't continue living on a shaky, unstable foundation, and that changes must be made to save oneself from falling in a total collapse. This struggle is ultimately the beauty of "The Crown", which, while dramatized a bit beyond reality I'm sure, uses this intimately human fear and struggle for growth and self-preservation to reveal that under the fairy tale and the facade, royals are indeed merely humans like us. And the fear of fading, being forgotten, rendered impotent and useless and relegated to a display behind which you will be scrutinized and mocked, is something which /every person/ can relate to in some form. Watching the maturity and the growth in Elizabeth is inspiring, even as it is frustrating to watch how slowly she must go about it because of the constraints of her position, and feeling how she herself is frustrated by her predicament.
The socialist rebel scum in me: lol stfu imperialist bitch, and let your authority, absolutism, and "divine rights" die faster, honestly cannot happen fast enough, old ass rich white people who cling to the past are what's killing the world and has been killing it for hundreds of years so honestly just fuck off and untwist your girdle, power to the people, catch up with progress or die mad about it lmao
