#it's probably purposeful that the district the rcm founder's son regulates is so large when fauburg has like nine precincts

I don’t know whether it’s because Disco Elysium’s lore is so well constructed and detailed while also hiding many critical details in vague places, because I’m an American with no sense of greater history (or minor history, for that matter), because I’m bad with numbers and dates mean nothing, or i just consistently missed that The RCM was founded in the ‘20s but…it’s fucking wild that the RCM was founded in the ‘20s.
Jean is older than the RCM, but at least he would have started forming memories around the time it was founded, but Kim and Harry’s entire childhood just. Had no stable law enforcement. Joyce’s description of the ‘20s “hell and urban warfare, but better than the teens!”…Kim and Harry turned ten in that decade. Their childhood was that decade.
Harry and Kim turned twenty in ‘27 and ‘28, respectively. They were teenagers when there was a nuclear meltdown, when the community banned together to clean up that, when the community came together to try to end the violence that has been a constant since the Revolution. The cleanup failed, but the RCM didn’t (technically) (it did what it wanted to do) (what it needed to do at the time).  When they were teens, when their political ideologies would be starting to solidify, the citizens of Revachol did what the Coalition could not or would not do.
Kim joined the RCM at twenty-three, in ‘32. Even if we are incredibly generous with time, the RCM would not be anywhere close to ten years old, maybe it’d be five.  Harry joined a year later, at Dora’s idealistic prompting and like...who can blame her?  I mean, I’d totally jump on board with “community led law enforcement with communist roots” and I don’t even live in a city, let alone a city like Revachol.
I’ve lost the thread of where I was going with this.  Just.  The idea that RCM is that young, it’s just a baby of an institution, that the protagonists are significantly older than the system they’re a part of...it’s fascinating.  I’m just shaking this snowglobe and watching everything settle.
