The more and more pulp stories I read, the more and more I realize just how weirdly subversive and transgressive E.M. Hull’s The Sheik really was for its time (even if the titular character turned out to be a secret white).
#this is to say i will soon be the proud(?) owner of 4 out of 6 parts of this random-ass serial from 1941#(just purchased part 1 and currently own parts 2 4 and 5)#it's pretty racist (albeit swashbuckly and technically well-written)#and honestly i'm not sure why i'm so curious about it aside from the fact that it seems to be the single story the author wrote#which makes me suspect it's actually a pseudonym for someone else#anyway RL has got me swamped at the moment but in a couple weeks hopefully i'll be able to make more of an appearance#and finally FOR REAL catch up on reblogs and whatnot ahahahahaha#personal#the pulp saga continues#(as an aside the romance podcast ''whoa!mance'' did a great little series on sheik romances#beginning with ''the sheik'' of course)
