Can you recommend HR with blowjobs? I've read a few but honestly I haven't found enough!! We need more heroines going down on their men!
Lol for sure! Unfortunately, there aren't as many in historical romance as there are in other subgenres. It's weird, there's like, a resistance to the idea that the act existed in certain historical spaces. I've gone back and forth with historical romance readers who basically say that men could only get it from "brothels" up until like... the nineteenth century. Wives! Did not! Do it! Apparently!
(Also, some of this comes from the idea that all historicals operate under a Christian-influenced morality code, which is yet another reason why we need more historical romance about people who are not Christians, and people who did not grow up in predominantly Christian countries....)
The best remains Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt, because like. It's SPIRITUAL. It's SAD. It's hot. They're in public; like literally behind a curtain, I think. He cries. She cries. He runs away to fight crime.
Elizabeth Hoyt includes it in some of her books, though not all.
Grace Callaway has this in pretty much all of her books, I think? Usually very detailed, often kinda on the rougher side. A couple standouts off the top of my head: The Duke Who Knew Too Much (he's like "please don't do that" when she drops to her knees because they're in public spying on a couple that is also doing that, and she's like "not listening"), Fiona and the Enigmatic Earl (it's like partition.mp3 but Victorian England), Glory and the Master of Shadows (very good "I'm proud of how well you did" vibes, mentor/mentee relationship), Olivia and the Masked Duke (v. good 69 scene). Grace Callaway always writes heroines who, for want of a better description, you can picture doing a helpful "like this???" with their mouths full while the hero is like "right yep you good please continue".
Joanna Shupe wrote one of my favorites in The Duke Gets Even. They're in HER DAD'S pool, she's too sore from their previous encounter (she's not a virgin~ he's just..... big and rough) to do p in v so they go for oral, which we love, and he's like "tbh I may die from this" because she's just. Going for it. Shupe doesn't always include it in her trad books, but often does (and it's definitely a thing in her self published novellas like My Dirty Duke, Sold to the Duke, The Gangster's Prize). I remember a really good one in I wanna say The Harlot Countess where she walks in on him in his room taking care of himself~ (I forgot to mention this in a recent rec post but it is SUPER hot) and it leads to her going down on him.
There's a lot of everything in Passion by Lisa Valdez, including this lol.
Minerva Spencer tends to go for it--I think it was in both The Boxing Baroness and The Dueling Duchess.
There's a reeeeeally good scene in Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale where they've been separated a long time and she's visiting him while he's imprisoned and she's pretending to be a sex worker in order to sneak in--and she cannot risk pregnancy, so they go for oral. I think she does it through his medieval leggings or whatever? For some reason, I found this EXCEEDINGLY hot. It's also a sorta femdom dynamic, so it's like he can't resist~ her. (Heads up, first sex scene is noncon, though more of the "we must consummate this marriage" variety.)
A Rogue's Rules for Seduction by Eva Leigh has this, as well as 69ing I think. Eva Leigh often writes this in; she's on the hotter end of trad historicals, for sure.
Stacy Reid writes it as well; I think Scarlett Scott does, but I've yet to try her (soon).
Scarlett Peckham often writes it in--there's a fab scene in The Earl I Ruined where they're behind a curtain (these bitches are always behind curtains) and he's like, talking her through it, and then the curtain falls and they have to do a scramble, lol.
I belieeeeve there's one in Hotel of Secrets by Diana Biller, but I'm not 100% sure. The hero is also a virgin in that one, super competent and uptight.
Jennifer Ashley has them in both The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie (hero is on the spectrum, widowed heroine) and Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (second chance/marriage in trouble). In Ian MacKenzie it's especially great because it's part of the heroine's diary entries??? And she's like "DEAR. PENTHOUSE. YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME" because she gave her first beej in a moving carriage, lol. And she's like "idk he was super about it so I guess it worked".
Sarah MacLean writes them, and she's honestly just been upping the ante with them. Like, in Nine Rules to Break When Romancing the Rake (her first) it's a "please stop, my love, or this will be over before it starts" whereas in Heartbreaker (her latest) it's a full facefucking situation where he's like "mmmm should I be rough" and then realizes that she LIKES it rough.
The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian has this as a bigger deal because the heroine doesn't like penetrative sex following some pregnancy trauma. So other acts are "the big deal" for her and the hero.
Tessa Dare tends to write it in, and she's always very fun and whimsical but hot about it.
Lisa Kleypas is a hit or miss with it, but her more recent books are more likely to have it, and of course Devil in Winter has the classic "she's trying her best and he's losing his mind because he's in love with her" scene.
I thiiiink The Dragon and the Pearl by Jeannie Lin has a scene? But I could be conflating it with the scene where he goes down on her right after popping her cherry, which is something I........ love.
And obviously, if you read m/m historical romance, you'll see more of it. K.J. Charles includes it, Cat Sebastian, Alexis Hall (A Lady for a Duke has the hero give the heroine one off page, when I wanted! It! On page!). The Queer Principles of Kit Webb has a perfect one where Percy (the snappish one) goes down on Kit (the sweet one) for the first time and he's trying to get Kit to go rough and Kit is like "oh noes I don't want to hurt you" and Percy makes eye contact, rolls his eyes, and grabs Kit's hands and puts them on his head to make a point lol.

you never fail to keep me up til 3am to catch up on MA istg (/pos) its so hard to keep myself from squealing and going batshit insane whenever i get to read the cute parts SHDKDJKS . i also love trying to solve these fictional cases in my head as i read (both of the ones ive solved before main cast were serial killer cases , isnt that just a /craaaazy/ coinkadink ahaha) . i was like 🤏 close to making a meme-y google slides bulletin board for my theories like i did with another one HAHAH — anyways , your writing is sooo nice its literally so easy to immerse into your chapters its insane and im such a sucker for whatever the fuck subgenre (?) MA is . its honestly one of my top favorite fics all time (like , you combined so much of my favorite things - how have you done this ?! scara , rivals/enemies to lovers , slowburn , forced proximity AND a fucking detective au ??? im sold .) if only i had more scara likers to share it with SIGH … anyways , before i get more carried away than i already got ill do us a favor and cut myself off . i absolutely adore MA . HUGE thanks to you for writing such a masterpiece , OKAY BYEEE :D
- jellyfish (if i ever come back LOL interacting is so scary HEIDJEJ)
jellyfish, whoever you are, wherever you are right now, i love you. seriously. i have been sobbing uncontrollably reading this.
also the fact that you were also trying to solve the case for this series is SO!!! COOL!!! you have a specific board for your theories on solving cases on fics like these??? and you've solved them before the main cast did??? absolutely fucking amazing dude i can't imagine the many theories you have in mind while figuring out who the serial killers are... even i can't wrap my head around my own fic sometimes.
and i won't deny that all of those subgenres are my favourite too!!! it's insane how i managed to gather them all up into one fic. i'm really glad there are people that sincerely enjoy reading genres of fics that revolve around crimes and unsolvable murder cases, and i'm glad everyone here liked my version of it! thank you so much for sending me this long ask, as i too, have gotten myself carried away by writing this as i brainrot over ma once again, lots of love to you, jellyfish !

HORROR ask game!! 1. top 3 favorite subgenres 18. a character you really love 26. body horror vs gore?
top 3 favorite subgenres
hmm... an interesting question, because usually when i say i enjoy horror i just give one genre as an example, that being psychological. i looked up a list of different subgenres to help facilitate a more concrete answer, so based on some of my favorite movies being listed in some of them i'd say psychological (the one answer i always give; the shining, get out, the stepford wives), supernatural (the vvitch, midnight mass, carrie), and folk (midsommary, the vvitch again).
that said, when i go for horror i really go for anything that just doesn't have that much gore, as i can't handle it otherwise. genre outside of psychological doesn't much matter to me, so long as it's good.
18. a character you really love
NORMAN BATES!!!! absolutely my favorite character in horror, hands down. the only slasher i like because of the deep, aching pathos behind his character. psycho ii especially is just... heart-wrenching to watch.
26. body horror vs gore?
my answer here is three pronged, as i considered this question from multiple angles...
i find these to be interchangable terms most of the time, if only because as a general rule if either are present in a film or tv show with real people, i cannot watch it. even if the effects are schlocky-- my brain will fill in the gaps. i can't watch films like the thing or the fly remakes for this reason, unfortunately.
that said, in the realm of writing... i haven't read as much horror as i'd like, but i will gladly write or read both! i think for me if the gore i'm writing isn't falling within or at least approaching that realm of fear that body horror invokes, the loss of autonomy over one's corpus, then i'm not doing it right.
and when it comes to artwork that isn't encroaching on replicating things too realistically, gore all the way. body horror at any level of rendering is still usually (but not always) too much for me to look at or imagine. which can be kind of a problem when it comes to creature design for me, since my brain literally will not let me conjure up images disturbing enough for what effect i'm trying to engender...

2 & 22 & 24 for the violence ask game
Hello! This is for the fandom in my pfp; I'm not naming anything to avoid maximum violence.
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
Welp my fave is the Main Character and his Pretty Boys, and I think they all switch... BUT. I can give an argument to why the Sickly King never doms (as opposed to never tops, given that he has children and has therefore Topped. But I don't think he was leading the fun let us say).
Powerful as he is in his day-to-day life, at least in matters of war and state, the bedroom is another story entirely. He wants to please his wife the Queen, and she's a force to be reckoned with; folding under her desire is both easy and pleasurable. His illness spares him from flare-ups because he's not exerting himself, she's right at home over him -- figuratively and literally --, and any sin he incurs in by letting her top can be prayed away. Most often with her on her knees at his side in front of the cross in their palace's private chapel. It is simply the perfect arrangement!
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
A fact I wish more mlm Main Character writers could incorporate into their work: Big Tall Surly Englishman was Main Character's first real male crush back in the first season. They're as canon as can be in the books too!
Though I have to say that my corner of this fandom is blessed in this regard, we don't tend to forget important bits!
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
OHOHOHOHOHO. This is the question that, had you asked me on reddit, would have prompted me to go on a literal neon*zi hunting spree. By which I mean blocking and reporting if it applies. Anyway, it's the Heathenry history part. Especially when tied to "historical accuracy". This type of show tends to attract a very specific type of asshole, and I can spot them at first glance. For those unaware but curious, the checklist goes something like this:
white man
norse pagan ("odinist" and "folkish" are literal neon*zi terms; "asatru" is one that should be examined more carefully)
really into viking history
the valknut symbol. thor's hammer and the helm of awe are the only other valid symbols
Odin Thor and Freyr are the only gods and if you worship Loki you're evil and if you worship any other god (eg Baldr) you're weak. Freya is there to be the goddess of love but never of war and she's always placed below Odin Thor and her literal twin brother Freyr
"the show can't be accurate because it must be politically correct for people to like it", "there were no black people in viking scandinavia" (factually wrong btw)
Also check any and all numbers in pfps, profiles, discord number IDs, etc. There are some associated with n*zism, eg eighty-eight & fourteen-eight eight.
On a more general note, if you suspect someone but aren't sure, other common themes are:
fan of Skyrim whose fave in-game race is the Nords
likes historical figures for their war achievements. even if the figure did civilian things, eg improved agriculture or made trade deals. even if the figure isn't well-known for the war efforts. if there is any military connection, they will like that and see value in only that
interest in military history and ONLY that (the biggest red flag is WW2 but I've also seen WW1, north-american wars, etc.)
metalhead super into black metal who won't accept any "posers" (aka metalheads who aren't into the same subgenres/bands). may or may not condone and/or agree with the likes of varg vikernes (who has done some truly vile things I'd have to Trigger Warning in here. look that up with discretion. there are MANY real-life horror stories in the history of black metal).
When in doubt, block preventively!!
