As a YJ enjoyer, YJ has the exact same problem.

Tai (the canonical lesbian) herself is pretty wild, yes, and I love her, but her romantic relationships (Van, Simone) have been pretty tame so far.

Ben and his boyfriend? Sweethearts with normal problems (since Ben was closeted).

(I'm not saying they're not touching, mind you. Ben's background story had me tearing up.

And I know I'm gonna side with Simone in the divorce so hard. Sorry, but I was disappointed the show conveniently put her in a coma and forgot about her for most of season 2.)

And then you have "straight" characters like Shauna pulling a "Wuthering Heights"/horror version of my "My Brilliant Friend" (Jackie's mom even compares them to Lenu and Lila):

fucking her bestie's boyfriend because she wants to be her,

having a fight with her which leads to her friend's tragic yet mundane death,

talking to her dead best friend's corpse and putting clown make up on her,

yelling at said corpse because she hallucinated that her dead friend teased her,

eating her ear,

being the first one to take another bite of her bestie's dead body,

cannibalizing/consuming her thus having her in her forever,

wearing her clothes and saving them from a fire,

hallucinating and thinking about her for 2 decades,

living the life Jackie could have led.

And then you also have Misty fucking Quigley (another "straight" character) who is obsessed with her perceived bestie (who, in turn, acts like she barely tolerates her) for 25 years:

poisoned everyone that led to an almost orgy that led to the kids almost murdering her bestie's boyfriend,

chased her with the other kids ready to kill and cannibalize her but then when her bestie's boyfriend's little brother was about to drown she threw her weapon away and convinced her to let him die in her place,

became her knight in the wilderness,

looked turned on when, after 25 years, she found her bestie pointing a gun at her and calling her "a crazy fucking bitch" as well as a "conniving poodle haired little fucking freak,"

stalked her,

messed with her car and manipulated her into a buzzfeed unsolved true crime trip,

used online advice to comfort her friend when it turned out her boyfriend had killed himself,

helped her threaten and almost set a guy on fire,

gave her a gift that turned out to be a hidden camera and watched her have sex with a cop,

snorted $300 worth of coke in one sniff so her friend wouldn't relapse,

helped her dismember and dispose of a dead body in exchange for a date,

was ready to hit a guy because her badmouthed her friend,

joined a cult for her,

accidentally killed her while trying to protect her from a woman with a gun, i.e., loved her to death (Shauna-style).
