The Covenant of the Crown (1981): Spock gets hugged like three times and casually holds hands with a character
Double, Double (1989): so happy he didn't offer his hand for me to hold
#leni reads trek books#anyway lol#i feel the book is really shallow and doesn't try to get deep into characters or relationships#but i'm only on chapter 10 so far#it's not like bad... but i also don't know how i feel about it#it's kirk and ocs centric so far and while i don't think that kirk is characterized badly it doesn't feel right#despite all features and traits being based on TOS I think they're used in a way that makes him feel a bit unpleasant#(well apart from 'kirk hates physicals to much' idk where people got that from. the corbomite maneuver really ain't it)#you can't truly feel the warmth from him... i guess#and his evil android version also seems very shallow and feels like he's gonna be too evil#it's not un-enjoyable but i can't say i've seen a kirk i personally like so far in this book

I simply cannot help with Spirk fic recs, but *cracks fingers*:
McSpirk
klmeri is an ao3 author who has written EXTENSIVELY for mcspirk; I wouldn't necessarily blanket rec all of her fics (mostly because I'm picky), but for the most part they're well characterized and EXTREMELY well plotted. just perusing her works is gonna get you far. my personal favorite of hers is Younger Than Stars, which features Kirk getting kidnapped and Bones and Spock coming to his rescue. Deals with a lot of Kirk's trauma from Tarsus IV and features some wonderful engineering and security OCs. I love a good OC.
Farrae Gunna is an AOS sort-of-mirrorverse fic. They have morals but, um, kind of to the left. They kill people. It's a lot funnier than it sounds, and it ALSO has a delightful cast of security OCs. The romance is subtle but very good; the real appeal of this one is the worldbuilding and also Bones with an axe 🤷♀️
Limelight is an AOS modern day AU where Jim works in the theater and Bones and Spock are neighbors. Features a lot of Joanna and Dad!Bones, and it's very fun and sweet.
When it's Something Special is a coffee shop AU where Jim is a barista starting his degree as an older college student, and Bones and Spock are professors and research partners. (Not his professors. It doesn't get weird.) Bones wears a skeleton costume. Spock is Jewish. It's also very funny and enjoyable, and the Sulus are a wonderful addition to the cast of characters.
Spones
I'm gonna be That Guy here real quick and pitch my own Spones fics. There's a little bit of a lot of things in there! They're primarily on the lighthearted end and very snarky. I won't say more, so as not to be too much of That Guy.
Disease and Danger is possibly my all time favorite Spones fic. It really matches the TOS vibe and is a great mix of off the wall and genuine, and it does well with the tropes it's playing with.
So Throw the Gates Wide Open is another extremely excellent fic, set more or less immediately post-Star Trek: Beyond. The cast is extensive, the characterizations excellent, and it gets very muddy in the waters of morality. J'adore.
Basically everything that @swimmingwolf59 has ever written is absolutely spectacular. Also Ken is just an awesome dude. I especially love the accidental baby acquisition series Between Worlds.
McKirk
Absence Makes the Heart Grow Stronger is a truly superb piece of fiction. My heart was POUNDING the first time I read it, and it still gets quick on a reread. (There are also sequels to it; they're good, but I'm not nearly as crazy about them.) It's action and adventure and medicine, and it has-- wait for it-- some excellent OCs. Oops, I'm still me!
The Case of Leonard McCoy is my personal favorite version of the "Leonard McCoy and Doom's John Grimm are the same person" subgenre that spawned due to both characters being played by Karl Urban. This also, imo, is one of the best versions of Academy era AOS Jim Kirk that's made its way onto the internet.
Hold Me Tight (I'll Hold My Breath) features Jim and Bones and a shuttle crash. It gets arguably a little darker than a lot of the fic I read? Definitely angstier than most of the rest of this list. But I think about it sometimes, randomly. It really sticks in your head.
Uhura-centric femslash:
hurry, hurry (you put my head in such a flurry, flurry) is a fun Academy era Uhura/Gaila fic with background McKirk. It's been a while since I read it so I don't recall much of the plot, but I actually bookmarked it, which I almost never do (most of this list I either knew by title or knew enough about their length/what was in them to find them quickly through ao3's exclude tags system), so it's gotta be quality.
The Vow is a Chapel/Uhura fic; fun if nothing else for playing with the adventure tropes common in other trek fic but centering the ladies for once.
I'm gonna be that guy again, oops, but there's a criminal lack of femslash fic longer than like 2k or so in the trek fandom, and anything shorter than that doesn't tend to stick in my head long term, so I'm struggling to think of recs without rereading a bunch if stuff. Anyway, I've written a Chapel/Uhura TOS fic called Gossip Mill and a T'Pring/Uhura AOS fic called A Certain Perspective, as well as a handful of shorter femslash fics
I haven't read much Sulu or Chekov fic so I'm not a huge help on either of those characters, BUT there is this one Spock/Sulu fic which is very cute: Ain't No Sunshine
And hopefully I didn't mess up those links doing this from my phone 😂 if something takes you to something else, @ me and I can get you the legit link
Fic Recs Please
Hi Trekkies, I am looking for Spirk/McSpirk fanfics especially, but Spones and McKirk are always welcome as is Uhura being a lesbian and Sulu and Chekhov being gay! I struggle with AO3 tags and I wanna hear it straight from you guys what you love!!!!
