Hey, Hattori. Have you ever... killed someone?
#detective conan#case closed#conan edogawa#heiji hattori#narumi asai#my amvs#amv#eye strain#suicide mention#song is 'start the machine' by helen trevillion (linked above)#so i started this on a whim but got stuck so started the 🏍 edit on another whim#(but less of a whim than this one lol that one actually had a planning document prior to adding transitions ^^;)#once i finished the motorcycle edit i decided to come back and finish this one but...#not to be personal on main but i made this because i was feeling awful about myself and so much of the process made me feel even worse#i'm still not sure how to feel about this edit but i did work hard and hope others can get something out of it 🙏#it's just one of the most heartbreaking parts of the series to me--that shinichi wants to save *everyone* but here he fails#and more than that he blames himself for it; he feels that it's his deduction that led narumi to start that fire#and while i didn't use the funi eng dub here (i would have liked to but they changed the line to 'i can't imagine ever killing myself')#one thing that gets to me about the funi script is this additional line where conan admits to heiji that he was too small to stop narumi#because i think that's another element of his guilt--he wasn't big enough or strong enough to save her#and while he's not talking about akemi here i think he feels the same about her#that if he had never followed gin and vodka that night at tropical land he could have saved both her and narumi#(it didn't work but i tried to add akemi to the video... something gets me so much about how she and narumi call conan 'little detective')#ramblings aside sources are episodes 11 78 and 1001 plus tv special 6 (episode one: the great detective turned small)#and do support helen trevillion! loved her music when i was younger and it was a happy surprise to find her making new stuff now#would love to do a heishin fancam with that 'with you' track but told myself i should get current with the series first ^^;#still at like ep 540 because i've been making fancams of the show instead of watching the show ^^;

3 19 20 22 23 !! uwu
thank you for the ask~!
3) What is your favourite DC trope? (A recurring quote, action, joke etc.)
hmmm… “there is always only one truth!”  does that count?  /shot
really though, that’s the first thing i can think of.  the other thing i can think of is heiji continually calling conan “kudo!!!
but i like the way conan always shouts his quote at the end of movie recaps of the series, and the way he points is always cute too, so that probably wins in my book!
19) If you could revive any one of the deceased characters, who would it be?
HMMMM… good question.  akemi, i guess!  mostly because i kind of want to know what her relationship with both shuichi and shiho was when she was alive.  also because believe it or not, i like akemi as a character from the little we see of her.  she’s sweet and nice but willing to do a bank heist to get her and her little sister out of the organization.  she seems pretty okay with dirtying her hands for the two of them, and not only that but she actually managed to successfully pull it off despite conan on her tail and the breaking down of relations between her co-conspirators.  it would have been interesting to see her as a player in the rest of the series!
but i do think that every character dead has died for a good reason, so i’d be hesitant about it.  akemi is the most interesting to me out of the ones who are dead, though.
20) Which recurring character do you wish would get more screen time?
momiji hasn’t gotten much of anything, if she even counts!  i like her so far; the nobility/money aspect really appeals to me as a Royalty Connoisseur and her abilities are even on par with conan and heiji.  i’m not exactly in love with the idea of her being tied to heiji and kazuha’s romantic subplot though.  i hope she gets more as a character!  watching someone with such potential get lost to shipping wars would make me sad.
other than her, i’d say azusa, since i like her a lot (and her one little subplot in the manga with her brother makes me think she’s got guts too, since she literally deceived a police officer to go find out what happened to him).
22) What’s your top pick for the most terrifying moment in the series?
HMMMM… this is a difficult question to answer since it’s so vague in description.  i’m going to interpret terrifying as “i was afraid for the characters”, so in that case it’d have to be the black organization against the fbi?  rena shooting shuichi certainly (at the time) qualifies for a moment where the manga really did seem to pound down on the consequences.
another idea would be the mystery train, i guess, since up until the very last moment it seems like the bo has the upper hand.  but probably rena shooting shuichi!
23) What’s your top pick for the most heartbreaking moment in the series?
oh gosh.  probably either ai’s conversation with conan after the case with higo or the reveal of what actually happened to scotch.  (can you see my biases revealing themselves here?)
specifically, the conversation with conan where he thinks she’s going to jump off the train platform and immediately runs for her.  it takes place some time after the bus hijacking, i think, and it’s the one with: “you told me not to run away from fate.  you’re going to protect me, right?  …well, i’m not a weak princess like you seem to think.”
there’s so much going on here.  conan tells her earlier not to run from her fate during the bus hijacking, and she’s finally following it up now; romantic implications aside, she’s basically implying that she’s going to try and start standing up for herself, but she’s also relying on someone at the same time, neither of which are bad things to do in tandem with one another, and most importantly both are things she’s had trouble doing.  she doesn’t tell conan everything she knows about the black organization, and she personally chooses to die during the bus hijacking to escape instead of trusting in both her and conan’s abilities to hide her presence as a shrunken girl.
rather than running away, she’s agreeing in a way to help in the fight against the black organization, and that takes a lot of courage after the years i’m sure she suffered under them.  and unlike conan, she’s got nothing really to gain aside from regaining her physical body (which personally i think she would like to do, just not as much as conan/shinichi).  other than shuichi we don’t really see anybody else with connections to her that’s still alive.  she’s helping because she wants to take the organization down, because it’s the right thing to do.
scotch’s deal is mostly self-explanatory, but the heartbreaking thing there is that imo rei is what killed scotch just as much as shuichi’s moment of surprise that let scotch pull the trigger.  he’s hated shuichi for… something like four years or somewhere in the ballpark.  and though he’s got all the pieces (he knows that scotch technically committed suicide, he knows shuichi is an fbi agent, and he obviously remembers that he ran up the stairs) he just can’t put them together despite being such a good detective.  it’s probably his hatred and desire for revenge blinding him as much as his refusal to consider his possible part in scotch’s death; if he realizes that now, a large chunk of his time and energy over the last few years has been for nothing, and he needs to completely reevaluate shuichi, the fbi, and himself.  shuichi might bear part of the blame for letting go of the gun, but if rei realized the truth i think he would flounder around in denial and anger at his own role in killing his childhood friend.
this got effing long but i love shiho/ai.  and rei.  and shuichi.  so much.  i’m so sorry
