heya, sorry for being a bit late answering this, my brain has not been working coherently for the past couple of days

but yes, for real!!! it's really wild how the warm siblings, the ones who unfortunately don't have much content and screen time on them in the movie, are given mostly nice and good characterization, while the cool sisters who have so much screen time and content and backstory to them, are the ones left in the dust and are the ones paying the price that is ooc-ness

like, where is the respect and love for them too?? genuinely want to scream out loud about this (not to say there isn't any respect and love for them, obviously, because there are, but even back then when i wasn't in the fandom and wasn't even familiar with the movie itself, i saw the very obvious attention disparity between the cool family and the warm family, which ofc affected quite a lot of things, like the characterizations for example)

but then again, maybe just as it may seem wild, the fact of screen time could also be the reason as to why the warm siblings have the more or less good characterization in the first place, because the fandom sort of have more freedom to create the characters based on what little is already known from content we have and what they'd personally like about the character

and for the cool sisters, some people either don't like what they saw in the movie (*cough* isa *cough*) or are projected a little too hard on (*cough* mirabel *cough*) or just straight up don't get content in general by the fandom (*cough* luisa *cough*), which led a good portion of the fandom to completely and unfortunately decimate their characters and characterizations

which is. frustrating as hell

AND GOD YES, good content for the madrigal sisters are so hard to find that i am practically on my knees pleading for something that isnt ooc or bashing/hating on them

ngl, im honestly really glad that i joined recently and not during the peak years of the fandom, because i know i wouldn't be surviving back then when the sort of disparity was likely worse 😭

( keep In mind that I'm a movie only fan and I heard that in the book he's supposedly a lot worse but also I'm literally the worst in analyzing complex characters)

Now I agree with your post that he probably used to be extremely dehumanizing towards the districts if coming up with the hunger games was more or less supposed to be just a dumb joke

What makes me empathize with him the most is that when the dark days ended he could have chosen to become resentful of the districts but he didn't instead he tried his best to stop the games and felt guilty the moment the first child was killed and I am willing to pay for finding out the things he did to try to stop the games I want to learn more about his efforts in doing that

It's also just the absolute worst nightmare to be in to be known for something you didn't mean to create and it causes immense suffering and to not only be credited for it but to have to be the public figure for it every year like I don't blame him for turning to morphling and the fact that he is mocked for it is really missed up because addiction is no joke

I also adore him for being mean to Coriolanus ik there are people who hate on him for it but anyone who's mean to Coriolanus has my absolute respect you can't get me to empathize with this blonde Twink even if you held me at gunpoint

This will be an interesting conversation because I am a single book fan!!!! The movie is ok but as a Sejanus Plinth fan I can't with everything they cut out of him (his relationship with Marcus, his family scenes, and a long list of etc). I usually joke that the movie is Snow propaganda in fact. Everything is done to make him look better hahaha! Although Casca from the movie is probably one of my favorite portraits!!!

It's I think a good visualization to what Casca would look like if he wasn't so dead inside and out. Especially on the outside. I wouldn't say as someone who rereads the book almost daily that Casca is worse in the book in fact I would say it's easier to have sympathy for him. The miserable worm (Coriolanus, especially this guy SUCKS SO BAD IN THE BOOK), Gaul, Livia, Arachne, Grandma Snow and maybe Lucky are the characters I think are worse in the book 😭, the rest come off quite a bit better in the book than in the movie!

Casca is simply more clearly a man destroyed by guilt and addiction. He looks sick, he looks BAD!!! As you say his addiction is no game and I think this is made very clear in the text but there are some pretty good scenes about him like the interview he has with Lucky Flickerman! Where they say ON NATIONAL TELEVISION THAT THE CHILDREN OF THE CAPITOL AND THE CHILDREN OF THE DISTRICT ARE NO DIFFERENT!!!

I'm glad you agree with that idea because I think it really makes everything more interesting about him and I think we have a good basis for believing it. Even if Casca didn't go around like Crassus saying hateful things every 5 minutes I do think he was indifferent to the pain of the districts (Like most people in the Capitol really). I don't think he would lose sleep or care to think about the hardships they faced, he didn't care because they seemed like unimportant issues and it was easy to have such pessimistic ideas about humanity until the war happens.

I think it was in fact the dark days and what he saw that made him understand that in the end they in the Capitol and in the districts were people of equal worth. It was just seeing the worst of humanity that broke down this very intriguing belief that somehow they were better because they weren't.

Casca still has pessimistic ideas I mean he changed his focus to self-destruction but it did go a long way to understanding that people in the districts are people. The responsibility of the games as much as it tortures him is what I personally believe made Casca have to confront that ugly truth that he had the power to do something and didn't in the past because he didn't think the situation in the districts was something worth worrying about before!

I think that's why sometimes I'm kind of mean on Casca hahaha bc while he did not want to create the games as we know them, he does have a responsibility because he comes from a privileged and probably powerful position to some extent. I don't think he had a Snow's influence but he was far from a working class citizen whose circumstances are bigger than him. No. No. No. No.

Casca should have known better if he had cared to know better. He could have done something but he didn't. He didn't do it or think about it until it was quite late and his guilt was undeniable. The bloodletting was already on his hands.

(And never in his complains to Crassus he talked realky talk about how morally wrong the proposal was from their part but more of a "You used me damned!" Pluriblus the neutral narrator show us this. Which is a valid feeling but there's that thing and in general to have been friends with Crassus so intimately. Terrible terrible choice Casca! I forgive you because you kinda react he sucks at a decent age but still...)

It also strikes me that he is still so angry with Crassus. I mean the fault is Gaul's about the games. And Casca is no fool, he is well aware of that, but still he is angry and resentful. Is for other reasons that he's bitter enough to be a bitch with Crassus's son (which btw I support 100% his RIGHTS AND WRONGS. He shouldn't be annoying a student yes but is Coriolanus the student so he have rights and its fun as hell everytime he do it 😆)

I have always wondered if it has to do with this issue that the responsibility for a project he did not want to happen or devise fell on his shoulders when that responsibility might not have been his alone -or not his at all- if Crassus was alive and other feelings of their complicated relationship.

Sometimes I wonder Casca would have fought so fiercely if he was not in the eyes of all the culprit of the games? I don't know but it's interesting to think about it. And in the Canon, he do try to fought before his addiction get worst. Which is A LOT!!!

I too would kill to know what he tried though to stop the games. I personally believe his position as dean is influenced by his attempt to make a change. I don't know how safe it is to make this claim but at least Snow implies that Casca has been the dean all the years he studied at the academy so I think there is a good chance he will be the one to accept Sejanus into the academy.

Before he lost his prestige and good reputation I think it would make sense that Casca could convince the others that Strabo's funding to the academy was worth allowing his son an education. Perhaps he thought this could influence the students in a good way. If they met someone from the district when they are young and more capable of change... although it end up be a totally failed plan. (But it's worth saying that I don't remember Casca ever being rude to Sejanus. He even seemed concerned about him a little bit!

Ginee was a tribute from D6 isnt? I WOULD LOVEEE HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS. Since Casca give Lucy Gray MONEY AND APOLOGY!!! I think he would be very kind with these children. Probably one of the few who treat them as that: children.

Is it bad I’m kinda scared for if we get new encanto content. because as fun as it was to see everyone loving the movie last year there was also so many TERRIBLE takes and even worse fanart (proship). Like oh my god the whole mirabel should have gotten a gift and left her family crowd and the people who villianised pepa for no reason. It's almost midnight here but I can't sleep so, I will ramble a bit. The poll I reblog about my anime fixation somehow just invoking more though than I need to and I think I'll talk about it for a little bit.

Gundam Seed Destiny is my favourite anime but what fixate me more is this guy

Shinn Asuka, arguably the most hated protagonist that I've ever know (because I hardly seen a post or article that actually say good thing about him) .

I was introduced to Gundam Seed/Destiny when I was in high school, before that I only know Gundam Wing because my brother love it and we used to watch it when it aired on local TV.

I used to like Kira, until I saw him. I guess you can say its like a love at first sight? Lol.

There's just something about him that make me like his character and make me want to want to know more about him. Sadly, most post or article I found about him back them was full of complain about him and I just couldn't understand how someone can hate him so much. Some people even argue that Kira or Athrun had it worse and they're not a brat like Shinn is and it just sadden me but not enough to deter me from loving him, it does prevent me to talk more about him because my friends hate him and I'm not really active in internet.

As I grow older and internet has become easier to access in here, the more I saw hate toward him and I wonder "Why though?" I mean, it's normal to dislike a character but I don't think it's normal to hate a character to the point you'd hijack someone's post about that character just to say "why this character suck and I hate them and you should too!" Yeah? 😅

Whenever I saw post stating that they hate Shinn, the reason can vary from "I don't like his colour pallette" to "because he's destroyed Freedom." Which I always think is funny, no offence. 😂 Some of the reason is pretty make senses though, like he's rude to his superior or him being an arrogant brat or his anger issues. But to hate him because he's a soldier that followed his superior order or to be manipulated by his superior? Yeah... That's ...kind of a bit weird. 😅

But whatever people say about him, I still loves him to this day and while I never think about it when I was younger, now that I'm older and more aware about mental health, whenever I saw him, I saw a war victim who can't process his trauma because no one let him to.

People always compare him to Kira or sometimes Athrun, because they both also lose the people they love in the war and they don't be a "emo brat" like Shinn is. But what people tend to forget is neither Kira nor Athrun saw their family mutilated body right in front of them! Kira's adoptive family even still alive and he doesn't even has memory about his biological one. That and both of them has support system that help them through their trauma while Shinn support system is... Trash. >.> So of course they'd end up different.

It just came to me in recent years that Shinn's anger issue also rooted deeply from his trauma. He doesn't know how to process that and anger become his only way to let out the frustration.

What sadden me more about Shinn is that... He's not allowed to develop more because of the change of protagonist in mid season and the focus is back to Kira. (Why oh why 🥲🥲) until the end, he's still in the clutches of his very manipulative friend who also get manipulated by his father figure(?).

One of the drama CD said that he's back to ORB post Destiny and it give me hope for his character for the later project. I hope he can finally have time to get the therapy and support system that he badly need. 🙏

OH MY GOD KNIVES OUT WAS WHACK

it was so good?? like, all the make-or-break little details, the bread and butter of a murder mystery, the way everything fell together at the end — magnificent. marta and benoit played off of one another wonderfully, i loved him calling her “watson.” i loved them being a bit odd together.

i didn’t realize “It makes no damn sense. Compels me, though.” was from this movie ‘til i heard it. truly a summary of my thoughts at least 25% of the time. what a mood.

one little thing that stuck out to me was the fact that none of the thrombeys knew where the hell marta’s family came from. ecuador, uruguay, paraguay, brazil. always a different answer. just- the slightest little showcase of how nobody really cared. they say she’s family but they don’t even know where she’s from.

i loved benoit’s proclamation: you’re a pack of vultures at the feast! knives out, beaks bloody! because yes, yes, the thrombeys are vultures swarming a carcass — tear the flesh from the bone, tear the inheritance from harlan’s hands — but the skeleton’s already been scraped clean. he did it himself. and he gave it all to marta.

and ransom got me man, i was like “oh he seems… nice…? maybe he’s not as much of an asshole as everyone made him out to be?�� and then NO he was WORSE. convoluted as hell plan. definitely worthy of the grandson of a mystery writer though.

by the very end i was full-on hyena cackling. the fucking prop knife, man. i was not expecting harlan’s line from the very beginning — “Playing life like a game without consequence, until you can’t tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.” — to come back like that.

benoit revealing he’d known marta was somehow involved ever since he saw the blood on her shoe, aka the moment he first saw her…! i don’t even have words. with every closeup, i thought benoit would notice, that they’d come back to it, and then he pulled that out of his pocket?? blew me away fr.

also: more little details at the end — the heat-activated invisible ink (again, perfectly suiting this family) and linda’s disbelieving, devastated face -> richard showing up with a swollen, slowly bruising eye with the obvious implication that linda decked him… marta on the balcony drinking from harlan’s old ‘my house, my rules, my coffee’ mug… mwah. love that.

knives out was great and is definitely up there with nope as one of my favorites.

1. My favorite way of seeing the trilogy used to be on my dvd boxed set i’ve owned since i was a kid. Looking it up online, it came out in 2002 and i’ve been a fan since at *least* 2006-2007? It’s definitely aged not only because the art is worn. It also skips in a few places and when the picture display on a flat tv is in letterbox format LOL! So now i watch it on the 25th anniversary box set.

I love watching it with my partner, even though we’re still long distance. And it’s not on any streaming site (for free)…

4. I think i’d get along with Marty (and hopefully Doc) wonderfully. I’m also the youngest in my family and although my family is more similar to when he comes back from the past the first time (when George is a author and Lorraine is not drunk), they’re less…. happy. I also just relate to his nature of feeling like he doesn’t really belong anywhere, has to stand up for himself, but he’s still so kind and brave.

For Doc, science is a 50/50 subject to me, but Doc makes it seem interesting and fun, and honestly just radiates safe father figure. And i LOVE THAT. Being a massive reader, i would love to go to him and be like “Check out this new novel i read!” Only for him to endearingly be like “I don’t understand why x and x have to/did…” or just be somewhere to go when i have family troubles.

These two are my comfort characters, you have no idea! ❤️

4. I’m tempted to say none, however, i would change one detail in the scene where Biff is with Lorraine in the car. It wasn’t until i was older and experienced a… situation… That i realizes what he was doing. I’d change it to maybe a heavy make out session? Or just something where it doesn’t imply that’s what he’s doing. In the novel of the book, it’s worse because it almost outright says it.

You know that you are officially a Kook yourself, but you don't feel that way at all. You and JJ can talk and laugh about anything and prank each other or other people a lot. The only downside to the whole Pogues vs Kooks bullshit is that you hardly see JJ outside working hours. You do text each other continuously and now and then JJ chills at your house.

Just like a month ago.

You were home alone that night and had asked JJ to have dinner with you and watch a movie. It was super fun and you both were flirting a lot. Not very unusual as your friendship often consisted of flirting with each other. After a few drinks, the two of you loosened up a bit and before you knew it, you were making out which turned into sex.

You've had sex multiple times since that day. But it was a very casual thing, nothing serious. JJ was known for his many hookups with different girls. But you can't help but start to feel more for him instead of just a casual hookup. He has really become your person lately. You can talk to him about anything and he is always there for you when you need him.

You hang your coat on the coat rack and threw your bag on the floor. Your stomach has been growling for a long time now and you couldn't wait to eat something. You called to your parents to tell them you were home but got no answer. You walked to the fridge and saw a note on it.

Your father and I will be with the Cameron family until tomorrow. The fridge is empty, but buy something nice at the supermarket and you'll get the money back. Mom

You rolled your eyes and muttered something insulting about the Camerons as you opened the fridge. The fridge was indeed empty. There were only some gross leftovers, but you'd rather starve than eat that. With a sigh, you close the fridge.

Your tiredness makes you want to go to sleep, but the amount of homework that you have been procrastinating for a long time attracts your attention. You don't want another lecture from your teacher about how you didn't make your homework. You grab your laptop and open it reluctantly before you start to work on some project for school.

After a while the headache you've had all day gets worse the more you keep staring at your screen and the fact that you're still very hungry isn't helping either. You decide to order some food online from your favorite restaurant.

Phone message:

Sorry, there are no delivery drivers available at the moment! Try again in a while...

You let out a frustrated groan. Why does everything have to be so fucking difficult? You put your laptop away and let yourself fall on the couch. Thousands of thoughts run through your head.

Soon enough you can't help but have tears rolling down your cheeks. All you want right now is to be with JJ and his comforting words.

JJ was currently chilling on the HMS Pogue with the rest of the Pogues enjoying the nice weather.

When he looked at his phone after a few hours of ignoring it he saw some texts from you and a few missed calls.

Kook princess👑:

Hey J, can you call me back.. I kinda need you

He smirked while reading the text thinking that you were horny and wanted to hook up.

I can't call right now but I can come over tonight 😏 💦 🍆

It didn't take long for JJ to get a message back

Please, I'm serious. I really need to talk to you. Are you sure you really can't call me?

His smirk was instantly wiped from his face. Normally you would have sent him something flirty back. He was immediately concerned about you so he excused himself from the Pogues to make a 'work call'.

As soon as he was out of range of the Pogues, he called your number.

"Hey y/n/n, what's going on?" the boy spoke softly.

"Hey J, I just wanted to talk to you for a second. What are you doing?"

He could hear your voice quiver.

"Have you been crying?" he asked worriedly.

"No-" you tried to keep your tears from floating, but you broke down immediately

"Y/n/n, please what's going on?" he said in the sweetest tone

"Just everything. School is just so fucking stressful, my parents give zero attention to me, my friends never have time for me, I just finished the worst work shift where literally everything went wrong and I'm just exhausted J. I can't handle life. " you rambled

"Hey, pretty girl, calm down. Are you at home?"

"Yes"

JJ looked behind him at the Pogues. They were paying no attention to JJ and his phone call. He hesitated to come to you for a few seconds but your quiet sobs made him decide to go.

"Okay listen, I'm with the Pogues now but I can come to you if you want?"

"Please"

"Wait on your dock for me okay, get some fresh air and I'll be there in a few minutes"

JJ ended the call and went back to join the Pogues.

"So.. hey guys, there is some crisis at work, it's chaos, could you maybe drop me off at my coworker's house, it's nearby." JJ spoke promisingly

"Since when do you give a fuck about work?" Kie asked confused

"Since JJ works with that girl he has a crush on" John B teased

The Pogues noticed a while ago that JJ was feeling more and more excited about going to work than usual. He paid more attention to his looks and always came home happy with the biggest grin on his face. Not to forget he was on his phone 24/7. So they all thought it had to be because of some girl. JJ kept denying it, obviously not wanting to let them know he was hanging out with a Kook. But deep inside he knew they were right. He really liked to go to work because he could be with you.

"Uh- no, very funny. But I actually need this job and I can't risk getting fired. So please, drop me off?" JJ begged

The Pogues all mumbled something before they agreed.

After your phone call with JJ, you changed into something more comfortable and walked to your dock outside as promised.

You sat down at the edge with your feet hanging in the water. The refreshment of the water felt nice, finally cooling down a little.

Nervously you were tapping your fingers on the wood of the dock. JJ said he was with the Pogues. What if he brings them with him? How should you act? How would JJ act? Within a second, another million thoughts went through your head.

You let yourself fall backward, laying down on the wood. Your hands in front of your face to block the sunlight. Breathing in and out slowly hoping you could calm down a little.

A few minutes passed before JJ came closer with the HMS Pogue. The Pogues could already see you laying down. For you, that was the reason you didn't see them coming yet.

"Doesn't really look like she has a work crisis" John B snorted.

"Shut up" JJ exclaimed.

JJ felt relieved when he finally had you in his view. He is genuinely worried about you. He knows you haven't been feeling well lately, for the exact reasons you just mentioned on the phone.

You finally noticed the HMS Pogue and were immediately off the ground and back on your feet.

An awkward silence filled the area until the boat came in contact with the dock.

"Hi" you waved.

"Hey" "Hello "What's up" The Pogues greeted you in unison.

JJ smiled at you before turning around to face the Pogues.

"Thanks for dropping me off guys, really appreciate it" he spoke.

John B nodded and glanced at you. "Aren't you going to introduce yourself? Very curious to see who JJ had to go so fast" he grinned.

You had expected the Pogues to leave the two of you alone as soon as JJ was on the dock but they had other plans apparently.

JJ knew John B did this just to tease him.

"Yeah- uh- Hi, I'm y/n. Nice to meet you. Sorry for interrupting your day but JJ accidentally took my car keys at work the other day and I really need them. He told me you were nearby so he could drop them off."

You immediately felt stupid for talking too much. It probably didn't make sense what you just told them and the way JJ looked at you confirmed your thought.

"Oh really? Because JJ said there was a work crisis. Like actual chaos right?" Kie smirked before turning her head in JJ's direction.

Your cheeks became red in an instant and JJ awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, both not knowing how to respond to that.

After a few seconds of very awkward silence with many glances going around the other boy in the boat spoke up.

"Hey, no offense, but you look kind of stressed... Do you maybe want to join us on the boat? It can be very relaxing" Pope said when noticing the tense and uncomfortable situation. He gave you a reassuring smile

JJ had told you a lot about the Pogues. So you knew Pope was always the one who tried to solve situations like this. It was actually very cute.

You chuckled and smiled back at the boy. "Yeah sure, if that's okay with the rest"

John B and Kie moved aside to silently tell you to get in the boat. JJ put his hand on your back to guide you. "Let us talk alone for a second" JJ whispered to the Pogues as he passed them.

He guided you to the end of the boat where you both sat down.

"I'm sorry for talking to-" you started but the blond boy shushed you.

“Hey, it's okay. They would find it out sooner or later anyway" he chuckled. He noticed that you were nervously fidgeting with your hands so he placed his hand on yours and rubbed his thumb slowly.

You were a little taken aback by his actions. Obviously, it wasn't the first time he touched you, but it normally only happened when there was booze involved and if you were flirting a lot.

"But how are you? Pope was kinda right when he said you looked stressed" he asked quietly trying not to hurt your feelings.

You chuckled. "Guess I am stressed. But having you by my side and being on this boat is helping a lot."

"Glad I can help" JJ smiled at you. "You want to talk about it?"

You shook your head. "Maybe later, right now I want to hear about something fun. Sooo tell me about last night"

You referred to Pope's family party that JJ was also invited to, but which he complained about all day during your shift at work the other day since those parties are always so boring if you had to believe JJ.

JJ rolled his eyes "Please if I ever have to listen to his aunt talking about her manicure for another minute I rather die" You and JJ both laughed.

"Besides, I'd rather spend my night with you" he looked deep into your eyes now.

You blushed at his comment. All you could think about was how much you wanted to tell him that you like him and want to be more than 'just' a hookup.

JJ cleared his throat.

"You know, uhm- I've been meaning to tell you something" he started.

Nodding you told him to go on.

"I- uh- I wanted to ask you if you would maybe like to go on a date with me?"

Your heart was beating fast. You couldn't believe it. Could he possibly like you too? But what about all those girls? And JJ not being the relationship type of guy.

"You sure you want to go on a date with a Kook?" you teased.

"They already know so who cares about the others" he was referring to the Pogues who tried their best not to make it obvious that they were eavesdropping. "Oh, and you are totally worth it"

"Hm, Well.. If you put it that way. I would really like to go on a date with you J" you both smiled.

JJ kissed you on the cheeks. "I'll text you the information then" he whispered.

"Can't wait" you whispered back.

JJ stood up and extended his hand. You accepted and stood up as well. Hands intertwined you walked in the direction of the Pogues.

They all looked at you before Kie spoke up.

"So tell some more about yourself y/n!"

My Mind and Me: Selenator's POV

Hello!

Before I start my review, I just want to say that I rarely use Tumblr nowadays as I am mostly active on Twitter. I do not know why but for me, Tumblr used to be big for like pop music fandoms during my early teenage years (we kind of treat it like Facebook back in the day where we beg our batchmates to reblog our posts for more clout lol). But I've migrated to Twitter after that because of how big and active the Selenator community is there. So, I am so sorry Tumblr.

Anyway, I hope everyone who reads my review is doing truly well and fine.

Recently, Selena Gomez just released her documentary My Mind and Me on the Apple TV+ streaming platform and she has given us fans 2 months free of Apple TV+ so that we can stream (and also cry*)

*will reveal later

Before I actually start my review, I just want to give a back story as not a lot of people know that I am a long-time, loyal fan of Miss Gomez:

So, I've been a Selenator for 12 years now, became a fan on September 2010 after I watched the A Year Without Rain music video that was featured back then on the old YouTube homepage. I first knew her through Wizards of Waverly Place (duh; and also thought she's Filipino, but turns out she's Mexican) and the Falling Down music video which was shown in the local music channel back home. Everyone in the family and friends know that I am a fan.

So... that's that.

To start, I already know that there will be a documentary coming after I saw so many tweets from SG News accounts saying that Selena went back to her old elementary school back in Texas and some students say that they're shooting a documentary. Another sign that I also know that there will be a documentary is that, the year after the Revival Tour, there were rumours going around saying that it will be turned into a concert film. I actually held on to that rumour (because I have a feeling that it's going to come true) because I never got a chance to go to the Revival Tour during its Australian leg (my city got skipped 😭, hoping one day she'll come back like what she did with Stars Dance Tour*)

*She actually planned to do a concert in my city during the Stars Dance Tour, but sadly, it got cancelled to prioritise her well-being.

When the teaser dropped, I kind of have an idea on what to expect in the movie. I already know that there's going to be some emotional moments with regards to her Lupus treatment and also her mental health, which is a topic that she's very vocal about (that's why I said at the beginning that I'm going to cry).

So, a few days have passed and I have finally watched the documentary and here are my thoughts about this.

Overall, the documentary was very eye-opening. As someone who has been stanning Selena for over a decade, I have never got to know her this deep.

The entire documentary is very genuine and honest. I am so proud of Selena to have that courage to tell her story and as a fan, I am honoured that this documentary has helped me to get to know her even better.

The following scenes were somehow my favourite parts (some of them don't but will say my personal reactions to it):

Revival Tour backstage scene This scene hits close to home and I can somehow relate to her. I also get these negative thoughts from time to time and I try my best to brush them off, but then there's still this invisible sensation that the thought will still linger in your mind... so basically, you'll still think about it and it'll somehow get worse to the point that it'll make you feel bad about yourself as you think of it more. That's what I assume she felt when she vented those thoughts to her friends (also, good on her for speaking out those thoughts). I actually cried during that scene because I feel very sorry that she gets these negative thoughts from time to time and also the fact that the media still associates her with something/someone else and not just by herself! and as a fan, it FRUSTRATES tf out of me.

Raquelle Stevens After I watched the doc, I am in awe of how Raquelle is such a good and loyal friend to Selena. She is really concerned and cared for her throughout her journey and she stayed with her throughout. Because honestly, it is definitely hard to find real best friends like that. Like, they'll still be there for you no matter what happens. But then at the same time, I am having second thoughts. Because, there was this one scene in the doco where she just walked in the hotel room and just ignored her, not acknowledging her presence. I do hope this is not intentional. But, when I watched that scene, I'm like... "Raquelle, you did not just do that?". Although it was this one scene, I was a bit annoyed because I actually had those moments where I just feel invisible around my friends or even to people.

Treatment scene The scene where Sel's getting treatment via IV just breaks me. The one before that scene happened is where I cried because she was in pain and it was very sad for her to go through that. Like, she did not deserve it. Also, the part where Selena mentioned about her Nana not wanting to accompany her because she'd seen the process enough just breaks me because although she wanted to be there, she cannot bear seeing her granddaughter in that state and this is also something that hits close to home.

Press interviews scenes BOI, I can feel Selena's emotions during those scenes and I totally agree with her, some questions are just very basic and answers can be basically searched on the internet. Like, everytime some SG news acc posted a video of Sel doing a Q&A with this magazine or company, majority of the time, I don't get to watch it because I already know that most of the questions are just very vanilla basic and repeated and honestly, they are so tiring. New generation of fans can watch it, but I know Selena's maturing and she wanted something more than "What is your favourite food/colour/etc?"... like, dig a little deeper and talk more about her advocacies and stuff.

Off-camera/IRL Selena scenes It was actually nice to get to know her roots in this doc. Where she went to school, the people that she get to talk to in the neighbourhood when she was a kid, the actual house she grew up in. It was very genuine to see what Selena is like. It was very nice to see some home video footage as well! The last time I saw it was back in 2011 during the We Own The Night Tour as some video footage used to be the opening visuals for that tour. (I watched it religiously as my way to prep for the Stars Dance Tour, but it got cancelled)

WE Foundation in Kenya I knew during those scenes that... that is where Selena is the most happiest and I love seeing her in that state. I can see it in her face that the Kenya trip was a big breather for her (with Raquelle keeping her grounded at the side, which is very kind of her to do) because not only that she gets to work with the girls but also take a break from the very busy lifestyle.

Again, the doco was very beautiful and exceeded my expectations.
