When Lucanis looks at the ocean, he sees his time in the Ossuary, trapped and imprisoned, moreso than he'd been by the Crows; he sees his confinement.
When Lydia looks at the ocean, she sees the Felicisima Armada providing her an opportunity to escape from her slavers as a child, a world of vast possibilities; she sees liberation.
When Lucanis sees her, and thinks of how she rescued him from the Ossuary, he starts to see the freedom of the ocean as well.
