I think old interviews and reading/listening to DWEU stuff has slow cooked me into being a bit of a one-sided Turlough/Five shipper (maybe, maybe not) out of pure pragmatism, because these writers are constantly introducing ship-tease / love interests for Turlough and just. Not really doing anything with them because obviously you can't develop one-off characters into influential fully-fledged convincing relationships. And you can't do Tegan x Turlough because no, and then they try to do the whole 'Turlough was in love with Nyssa' thing and it's like okay?? If you factor in the older!Nyssa arc and those three years they spent in Brisbane then maybe, but also we all know by now that she either ends up with her husband or later probably Tegan so that's not going to go anywhere.

And at best the reason I can come up with for why they keep doing this is because Mark Strickson might have had an interest in Turlough having a love interest on the show just because it would have given him a more well-developed relationship with another character and maybe something to do post-Enlightenment. So everyone just keeps on bending over backwards, trying to conjure a female love interest for Turlough, who is both long-term and convincing, and it's like.

Guys. I can think of someone who he has a long-term relationship with and who was also key to his character arc and who he also literally defied god for.
