but if reapers are meant to be neutral, it makes the idea of romancing thirteen as a mortal so sad, to me at least 😭 either she comes to collect your soul, and ig she keeps it close to her to remember and admire

but imagine if like this is a first time circumstance where a reaper has a bias towards a human, and because she's not technically neutral to mc since they have a connection, so they don't allow her to collect mc's soul (maybe in fear of her trying to interfere?)

I don't know what's worse, her never getting to say a proper goodbye because she wasn't allowed to do it herself (and the question of whether or not she'd have the knowledge of when mc will die (there are the life candles so maybe...)).

Or having to collect the soul of the person you love and knowing you'll never see them again. And the possible stalling but you can't change fate, you can't make an exception. And spending the last day together, and mc turning to thirteen with a soft but sad smile and just saying "I'm ready."

Oh oh oh now you're making me wanna write some sweet & sad Thirteen fics...

So okay, here are my personal headcanons about reapers. This is stuff that I developed because I needed to for my OC story lol.

I think of the reapers as being neutral. They don't belong to any of the three worlds because they exist in all of them.

The fact is there are like 8 billion people living on earth. That means there has to be a lot of reapers just to cover humans alone. Not only are there a ton of them, but their lifespans are short compared to demons and angels. So necessarily, I think most reapers live in the human world.

However, death comes for all and has no affiliation to any world.

Demons obviously have candles, as evidenced by the time OG when the bros went looking for Beel's. So it makes sense to me that angels would have candles, too.

The candles manifest the moment the soul it's attached to comes into being. They simply materialize out of the air into the reaper's cave. As long as that candle is lit, that being is alive.

Human candles don't go out until the entire candle has burned down and this can certainly happy quite quickly. They vary more dramatically in size.

Angel and demon candles are all basically like big ole pillar candles that never seem to actually melt at all. They are eternally burning. However, angels and demons can die, so when this happens their flames just go out like someone snuffed the candle at which point the rest of the candle turns to ash or dust.

The Devildom and the Celestial Realm have a much smaller population than earth does. So Thirteen is the only reaper in the Devildom. All of the demon candles are in her cave. I think of it as her jurisdiction. Candles move realms if the person they're attached to does, too. MC can move between the realms by the end of the OG, but due to their strong affiliation with the Devildom, I think their candle moved to Thirteen's cave some point in the first season of OG. Basically, I think the candle manifests in whatever realm the person thinks of as "home" and certainly MC feels the brothers are like their family.

Similarly, I think there is one reaper whose jurisdiction is the Celestial Realm. They keep track of all the angel's candles.

And due to the amount of humans that exist, there are untold amounts of reapers working in the human world.

I like to think that reapers can kind of make pocket dimensions to house themselves and their candles when necessary. So there would be actual caves where reapers have made their homes (with magic to keep curious humans out), but if they have to create extra space they just create a door that acts as a portal between their cave and the human world.

There is a lot of paperwork involved with the creation of candles and the collection of souls. Because what happens with those souls once they're collected?

Personally I think you could say all kinds of things are possible. I never really bothered to figure that part out because the game doesn't specify and I'm cool with it being unknown.

I like to think that Thirteen could choose to keep MC's soul if she wanted to, she would just need to file the correct paperwork for it.

All of this is how it works in my personal au that I developed for Arrie's story, but it's kind of how I think about all of it now.

I have Azrael as the head of the reapers, but he's an angel still. However, he's become more neutral toward the realms as he's had to step into the role of reaper boss.

It's this idea that any being from any of the realms could die that makes me think they have to be neutral. Especially if the realms are at war with each other. I mean, when the Devildom and the CR were at war, reapers would have had to collect souls from both sides.

Anyway, this is all just my personal thoughts on it lol.

I like the idea that Thirteen would be the one to collect MC's soul. It would be hard, but you know she wouldn't trust anyone else to do it. Plus, MC is hers. And if they were dating, I think MC would give Thirteen permission to keep their soul for as long she wants.

Wouldn't it be a comfort to know the reaper that's collecting your soul loves you? When the last thing you see is her eyes shining with tears? The last thing you hear is your name on her lips?

In my personal au, reapers can't die. But what if they can choose to die?

What if Thirteen doesn't collect MC's soul because she gives up her own life at the same time? Maybe their souls can merge and instead of being collected at all, they simply vanish or scatter into stardust, forever entwined.

Oops now I'm sad too.

Anyway, I clearly have zero chill about any of this, so I say embrace your ideas! Let them go crazy, why not!

As for the manga, I'm probably gonna order it online. I don't have a Barnes & Noble in my town, so if I want to go there, I gotta go to a different town. And I'm just too lazy lol. But now I want to read it, only for the Mammon ass shots. I mean plot is cool too I guess.

As 10 Million plus of you know, or may not know my ID photos recently went viral on the internet lol. My 2018 and 2024 IDs caused a frenzy of hilarious commentary on Twitter first and then IG this week. From “he’s a crackhead” to “the difference between doing weed and doing coke”, to “Thats what living in Maryland will do to you”. All quite hilarious to me and those who know me, but I’d like to give some background on the actual factuals.

Never done hard drugs in my fucking life! I was high on weed in the first ID photo in 2018 (clearly). Those that know me know I’ve been sober the last 8 months after choosing to quit smoking weed completely due to me raising my son and how much he mimics everything I do and being high around him just didn’t feel right. From being a heavy weed smoker for the past 15 years to quitting cold turkey, I am extremely proud that I don’t look like that first pic anymore.

Stress has nothing to do with the difference in photos, I am so much happier with life and my family and my accomplishments now in 2024 than I was in 2018. I’m married, own place, own car, family growing and healthy with a thriving business in photography, and loving my job im blessed to do every single day. I was more stressed in 2018 than ever with none of the aforementioned accomplishments.

My eyes change color, they’re a totally different shade lighter than the 2018 photo. My eyes change colors all the time from brown, to green, to hazel, to grey. My eyebrows have always been super thin. People telling me go to the doctor and get my thyroid checked and Im literally the healthiest I’ve been my entire life. Juicing, exercising when I can and eating my vegetables. I think I look healthier with smoother skin. My shocked expression is really due to not having my glasses on and the flash going off before I expected it to because theres no countdown just “turn and take the pic”, Boom.

I needed a shapeup my mustache do look wild lol. My locs are braided and pulling my hairline back further than what it is. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I like my before and after photos and glad I posted it and went Viral. One thing about me, Im probably the most self confident person you gonna run into so nothing someone who doesn’t know me can say thats gonna hurt my feelings or make me feel any less than what I already know I am. And I’m the last person you want to try to make fun of and put on blast cause Im just gonna use it to my advantage and put it on a T-shirt, you really cant pay for this type of Free Promotion. Harry’s tight grip on your hand is the only thing keeping you balanced as people on the make-shift dance floor are being knocked into you from every direction. Niall’s house party had definitely gone a little overboard, but you’re still enjoying yourself even if the night had only just begun.

The room smells of sweat and alcohol and you can almost see the condensation on the expensively decorated walls from all the bodies crowding the place. Colored strobe lights are the only thing illuminating the expensive penthouse living room and the bass from the speakers can be felt through the floor and up your feet. 

Harry doesn’t enjoy these parties as much as you, and while you were both homebodies at heart, you really did enjoy just letting loose and having fun once every now and then. 

You knock into your boyfriend’s body as he abruptly stops to slide open the balcony door. You had only just arrived and said hello to a few guests, stopping at the bar top after Niall begged to do group shots, before Harry was trying to escape the crowded living space. 

As he pulls you onto the balcony over looking the Colorado city below, the cool night air hits your skin and it feels like you can sigh of relief, finally getting a chance to air the sweat off your body that had so quickly accumulated. 

“Styles!” You hear to your left, both you and Harry turning your heads to see Liam and Zayn, as well as another party goer you hadn’t met before, sitting around a glass top table with a few ashtrays on top. “I told you he’d show.” Liam smacks Zayn’s shoulder who is puffing a blunt between his lips, not paying attention to Liam. 

Harry leads you to the table, sitting in a chair first before pulling you sideways onto his lap, lingering his hands on your thighs. “In the flesh.” Harry announces his entrance with a forced smile. 

Liam flicks his lighter on the dull end of his joint, rekindling the flame, and then tosses it to Harry, who catches it amazingly in one hand. You lace your arm around his neck and connect your hands on the side of his shoulder, hanging onto him like a koala bear. The contact causes Harry to lean forward and press a quick kiss to your cheek, almost out of reflex, before reaching into his front pocket of his very loosely buttoned shirt. 

He pulls out a joint and brings it to his mouth, letting it hang between his lips while he cups the flame from the lighter in his hands and brings it to the end of the joint. He lights it and lets a the first puff of smoke leave his mouth before he inhales a deep breath, the cherry butt lighting up brighter, and then he’s blowing the smoke out of the corner of his mouth after holding it for a second. 

The other boys at the table have already drifted into their own conversation, so it feels quite peaceful between you and Harry at the moment.

One of your favorite things to do with Harry on special occasions is smoke. Well, smoke and then fuck. You both are the kind to get super turned on when you’re high and it works perfectly for nights when you both just want to relax and spend time together. You never do it too often, neither of you wanting to rely on drugs or sex for any parts of the relationship, but it is definitely a sweet treat when the occasion arises. 

He repeats his movements from before, inhaling the smoke, holding it and exhaling it, keeping his eyes focused on his hands as he taps a small amount of ash off the end of it and onto the concrete patio flooring.

His eyes flick up to yours, silently asking if you want some so you nod. He watches the joint as he places it between your lips, your two finger instinctively coming up to grasp the joint from him. As you puff on the joint, Harry’s olive green eyes trace over your face, repeatedly landing on your eyes and lips. 

You take it out of your mouth, jumping at the chance to attach your lips to his, not wanting to wait any longer to kiss him. He inhales the smoke for your lungs, quite literally taking your breath away, and when he pulls back to release the smoke, tilting his head straight up to the sky, you can’t help but let your mind wander as your eyes trace over his feeble neck. 

“Tha’s supposed to be my move.” He says as he looks back at you with a grin, but you just shrug and smile softly. 

“Sue me.” You tell him under your breath and you can’t help your eyes going back to his lips. 

“You wanna go-” Harry starts saying quietly, inching your faces closer before he gets unknowingly interrupted.

as if this wasn’t obvious, but the storyline!! the plot!!! the characters!!!! everything is PERFECT. the part where galo realised that kray isn’t the hero he always thought he was, or when galo watches the lives of the burnish and realised through lio how terrible their fate is (ik lio said it’s a blessing but it’s kinda sad?? to just be burned up by the fire within yourself), or when aina learns about what heris is really working for.... gosh. this also brings me to my next point

when lio captures galo and galo witnesses the life of the burnish and galo’s like ‘y’all eat???’ i have never laughed harder. lio’s FACE omg. or anytime someone jabs and insults the other,,, lio’s just like ‘you’re an idiot’ half the time and galo’s like ‘:((‘ LMAO. or the names of all the inventions and robots? it’s so silly but it really gives a breath of fresh air to the movie!! even if you don’t like romance/action, i’d 100% recommend it simply for the comedy

A Fresh Take on Riot Games’ New World’s Theme: “Phoenix”

An In-depth Analysis of Phoenix, 2019’s League of Legends Hype Song

As season 9 of League of Legends comes to a close, the best of the best League players from each region to compete for a chance at the Summoner’s Cup and a prize of $2,225,000 as a new World theme song sets the tone.

This is also when the much-anticipated “Worlds Theme” is released to set the tone for the most-watched esports event, with over 100 million unique viewers worldwide.

This year, however, Riot Games fell behind schedule in their release of the League of Legends esports event theme, “Phoenix”. Riot Games apologized and explained that the delay was due to them making sure that the song was ready.

Their explanation didn’t satisfy the League community. There have even been some theories that contradict Riot’s explanation. One theory says that “Phoenix” originally included Bjergsen, the mid-laner for Team Solo Mid (TSM), but had to be removed when TSM failed to make it to worlds.

And when the song was finally released last month, many were left disappointed in the quality, believing it to be one of the weaker themes to date.

Here’s why “Phoenix” is one of the best and most powerful themes to be released.

First and foremost I want to take a moment to look at the title of the song. When you put it into context, this in itself already makes this song a masterpiece. 

What is a phoenix? A phoenix is a legendary, immortal bird, wondrous in beauty, that would ignite itself in a glorious inferno before awakening to rise up from the ashes.  Now think about that, and let’s look at the titles of songs Riot has released in the past three years:

“Ignite” - Zedd | League of Legends Worlds 2016

“Legends Never Die” (ft. Against the Current) | League of Legends Worlds 2017

“RISE” (ft. The Glitch Mob, Mako, and The Word Alive) | League of Legends Worlds 2018

“Awaken” (ft. Valerie Broussard) | League of Legends 2019 Season 9 Cinematic

In one word, “Phoenix” has recaptured the essence of the previous three seasons, and with “Awaken” setting the scene for 2019, “Phoenix” is in a good place to close out the year strong.  

Now I’ll let you all in on a little secret: even though we’ve already discussed the masterful application of the title, the way to crack this song wide open and find its beautiful message, lies all in its lyrics.  It sounds simple I know, but you’d be surprised how many people listen to songs without realizing what its lyrics are or understanding what they mean.

When we take time to analyze these lyrics, we very quickly see from the first verse that this entire song talks about the mental game in League of Legends.  In my opinion, at least 80% of playing LoL IS part of this mental game, while no more than 20% is actually raw, mechanical skill. Mechanics alone can net you those flashy plays that everyone gets excited to see in montages and can get you a decent way up the ranked ladder. But in order to actually set up those plays, the majority of LoL is a thinking game: being able to outsmart your opponents, engaging in macroplay, leadership, teamwork, and calling the shots to achieve victory on the rift, all while remaining untiltable.  

In the video, the song highlights three players in particular: IG Rookie (LPL), G2 Caps (LEC), and SKT T1 Faker (LCK). Of course, this song applies to everyone else as well. These three players are all mid-laners for their respective teams, and in turn, their respective regions, China, Europe, and Korea.

We also see the League of Legends champions that are iconic to these players, as these champions represent them: Lissandra for Rookie, Irelia for Caps, and Karma for Faker.  On top of all of this, we what are essentially glitches: a dark corruption force taking over the players and their respective champions, creating a kind of ‘photo-negative’ incarnation of each.

The symbolism around this is key to the message of the song. But let’s dive even further into the lyrics to see make this song a masterpiece.  

This is referring to both the players’ psyche and overcoming the looming corruption of doubt (which is what I believe the glitched “photo negatives” that we see in the video to be. They’re fighting versions of themselves that have been corrupted by negativity and doubt). The “million voices in their heads, whispering to them to stop,” lyric is parallel to another line in the song where it says.

This time the voices are in the crowd, “screaming”, which represents the millions of fans and patrons of the game— those watching the esports scenes each year and following the journeys of each of the teams as they look to make their marks in history.

The players, and especially those who have choked performance-wise in previous showings at worlds, definitely have to contend with and battle not only their own doubts but the doubts of their fans, wondering if hope is lost, wondering if their teams are washed up. 

These lines parallel with the respective stories of not only those featured in the video for “Phoenix” but almost all of the current world’s participants.  

Several times throughout the song we keep seeing these lines repeated:

"It’s your reflection looking back to pull you down.  So are you gonna die today or make it out alive? You gotta conquer the monster in your head and then you’ll fly. Fly, phoenix, fly. It’s time for a new empire. Go bury your demons, then tear down the ceiling, Phoenix, fly."

The chorus of this song is perfect for capturing the whole motif of fighting negativity and emerging victorious from the battle, rising up like a phoenix from the ashes.  For a lot of the players at worlds, they have to worry about their careers, and with each showing at Worlds without the chance to claim the Summoner’s Cup, it can definitely take its toll. 

If they give up and give in to doubt, they’ll never be able to achieve their dreams on the highest stage. Previous seasons of Worlds have shown that the gap is closing between the Asian ‘superpowers’ from Korea and China and the rest of the world. Superteams from other regions have risen up to claim their titles, to forge new empires which have been so long dominated by SKT T1 and the other Korean and Chinese representatives. 

Even yesterday, we saw G2, a European superteam, take down the titan that is SKT in their semifinals series, which means that this year’s world finals will be between G2 Esports, and FunPlus Phoenix; Europe versus China.  

The tension is definitely on for what will be an immensely hyped finals because the last time a European team won Worlds was season 1 in 2011, by Fnatic. The last time a European even showed in finals was last year in 2018 when Fnatic faced off against and lost to Invictus Gaming, another Chinese team. 

Now G2 carries the hopes of Europe and the hopes of all the western regions alike as we could have the Summoner’s Cup hoisted by a western team in over 7 years.  

The League of Legends esports final event will take place Sunday, November 10th at 7:00 AM Eastern. The Opening Ceremony of the League event always features a live performance of the World’s theme. 

I hope with this analysis of “Phoenix” that you will also enjoy it with this fresh, new take on the World’s song which so many have, in my opinion, dismissed prematurely.
