Weird brazilian music recommendation for today is Da Lama Ao Caos by Chico Science & Nação Zumbi
#youni originals#it's an old one (early 90s) and what i can only describe as crab punk#the songs are half nonsense half social protest so the words are important to the vibe but at the same time very hard to translate#there's a lot of crabs and mud in the lyrics because the city that inspired it was pretty much built on top of a mangrove#so this counterculture movement used the mangrove (and the crabs) as its symbol. reclaiming the city's roots.#and this album as one of the symbols of this movement uses that a lot. crabs as the people. vultures as the cops/authorities#(a symbol that has been used since the dictatorship)#and so on
