i tell myself that soccer is less violent than the other sports i watched growing up, like when Marquis Daniels got taken off the court on a stretcher and Rajon Rondo's entire elbow bent backward on a fall or every icy haymaker thrown before two minutes in the penalty box, but then fights just happen in soccer too. it will not even be a country's pride on the line with a rivalry for the ages like USA vs Mexico. It'll be a semi-professional team with a beer festival going on in the background and pulled pork smoke misting one side of the pitch and someone's goalie will have stepped on a fifteen-year-old-who-shouldn't-be-playing's foot during a penalty kick just to instigate something and then the entire team comes to blows and the ref has to be escorted off the field by security because the fun continued after the 90+7 minutes were over
