I've been reading through all your amazing posts and asks (as usual heh this account is a joy to me) and I wanted to ask how writing your original fiction is going! Give mentioned so many different ideas you've had and even about how far along you were with them and I really wanted to know how those were going heh. As you can see knowing other writers of original cesty fiction is important to me so I'm real giddy heh. Hope you're well even if you aren't working on anything ❤️
I love you for asking me this.
The main story I've made progress on since the blog went down is my Christmas one. I know I mentioned it offhand but perhaps not in detail. It's in the kids-get-transported-to-a-magical-land genre meets The Santa Clause only it's written by an adult for adults with (mostly) related adult characters (naturally). They started out as teens in conception but they kept getting pushed up by the plot planning until they were all in the 20's at the start. So, yeah. I only work on it November-January (sometimes February too), so it's hard to set it down but fun to pick it up again when the season arrives. I'm on part 4 of 6, through the parts probably won't all be equal length. I would say I'm about half way through. It's really long, through, like 280,000 words so far, so you can imagine what it will be like when it's done. Enormous. I've been working on it since 2016, I think, and I've definitely got a couple more years to go. It's set in 2017, which is getting awkward.
I want to be careful about what I say because the story is built on the reader having a lot of questions about what's really going on. As the author I don't want to spoil it, and even saying how many incest couples there are and what kind of incest it is technically a spoiler but as a reader I understand better than anyone that you want to know you're going to get what you want and not get what you don't want, or else you're wasting your time. Anyway, you can count on a slow burn brother/sister romance being the primary topic.
I haven't actually shared any fun information, though, so I suppose I had better get into it a little more, lol. The main couple are half-siblings - they share a father - but their mothers are also sisters and they grew up as cousins, but the kind of cousins who are really close and spend the whole summer together at their grandparents' house and stuff like that. He's three years older and they're just now reaching a point in their lives where that kind of age difference doesn't matter at all anymore. As kids he kind of felt stuck with her - they were close enough in age that they were expected to play together even though she was never quite at where he was at, all the more so because she's very much the doesn't-like-to-get-dirty type. So he's still kind of carrying that around even though it's much different now.
She's like very mothering and nurturing and so she's always trying to take care of him, which drives him crazy, and also her family has significantly more money, so there's tension over that. They've lived in the same city for the past 10+ years and have become very close in their older years, like they would both easily say that the other is their best friend and means more to them than anyone. Their cousins' family suffered a tragedy and their aunt was already a single mom so they've been taking care of that family and basically raising their baby cousin together for the past ten years which really brought them together.
But they have absolutely no inkling that they're totally in love with each other and it's going to be a slightly angsty journey of discovery.
I'm looking over what I've described and I'm not loving it. Hopefully when you guys see it in action (if you so choose), it'll come off better because I actually think they're really great and everyone would love them as a ship, though I think maybe in the end the story itself won't be for everyone, it definitely verges on corny.
I have another story that I hope to finish this year. I haven't advanced beyond what I've already written about on here, but I plan on working on it next, and it's already 2/3 of the way done.
Thank you so much for asking me about this! I hope we can all share about our original fiction and encourage and support each other.
