Nia Nal, Not ready to be out in the field yet! (unpopular opinion? )
Sooo i’ve touched on this subject before, so apoligies if im repeating myself. But i honestly think that Kara and Brainy are being far to reckless with Nia. Hear me out!
When we first meet Nia she is only just starting to have prophetic dreams. She helps Kara and Briany in finding Agent Liberty, pre her knowing they have superpowers. This was reckless and dangerous! Nia nearly got shot in the face while all three were chained up. She only knew to duck out of the way because she just happened to have a vision she was going to be shot at! Kara didnt even react quick enough to stop that from happening.
Then we have valentines day, Nia and Brainy are out and Brainy asks Nia to be part of the Superfriends. Nia says she isnt really prepared to even discuss the idea, but Brainy pushes, i love Brainy but give the girl a chance to think! He leaves and she gets the binder of costume ideas.
Later Kara is fighting Menagerie and Nia just turns up wearing her suit! I mean yeah its ace that Nia beats Menagerie with a metal pole, and we know she can predict the movements in a fight here, but it isnt perfected as Kara still has to save her from one of those parasites of Menageries. This was great for a first go! But thats when Kara should have said ‘thanks for your help! you’re amazing, but now you need to get to safety’. But she doesn't, she tell Nia to go in the building and help Alex! How exactly? Has Nia dreamed about every little detail going on in the building? Is that suit bullet proof? Her face is exposed and we have already seen how she has been nearly shot in the face once before! Kara just sent her into a building full of people with guns armed with nothing but a few dream clues and a metal pole!
So, last episode we had Kara and Brainy take Nia to the Fortress where we saw her training with Brainy. So she can evade most of his attacks blind folded, through anticipation and prediction due to her powers. But this apparently also makes Nia some sort of automatic martial arts expert? She asks Brainy to tell her about her descendants but he says no for obvious reasons. Then he catches her doing astro projection, something he says jumps months of training. Nia apologizes and says she knows, she’s sorry, she moves to fast, she pushes herself and she takes on more than she can handle’. Good! Nia has already realized her own issue. What Brainy should have done here was tell her that she doesn't have to push herself so hard, she should take her time. But he doesn't! he tells her ‘thats what heroes do! ‘Leaping before one looks is part of the job description’.  Nia is like ‘it backfired’ and Brainy says ‘yes, but next time you shall fire forward’. Well thats great! But bloody hell Brainy! What if she doesn't?!’
Lets go back to Nia saying ‘I push myself and take on more than i can handle’, this reminds me of Season 1 Kara who was taking on to much as well, remember when she spilled the oil onto the National City Lake? River? Whatever. Cat Grant even said that Supergirl was taking to much on at once. Kara took this advice to heart. Something that apparently Nia isnt going to? Something Kara is going to be cool with her doing? I mean at least Kara couldn't really be hurt.
Also lets return to that ‘leaping before one looks’. This is just like when Maggie told Kara off for not looking before jumping into a situation, Kara said she doesnt look before she leaps because she can fly! Well yes, thats great for KARA! Its not like much can hurt her, but if Nia doesn't look before she leaps that will most likely end in death! This right here? Is terrible advice!!
So after this one short training session, its OK to take Nia out to fight The Elite? I know she gets on OK, but she isnt trained! She’s essentially winging it! Kara, Jonn and Brainy are reckless and putting an inexperienced young woman who isnt bullet proof and doesnt know the extent of her powers and doesnt even have a hold on them out into the field with dangerous individuals such as The Elite! You would think that Jonn at least would be like ‘maybe we shouldn't have this young inexperienced, un trained young woman in the kill zone with us?’
This is like taking someone to a Karate class, giving them one lesson then expecting them to hold off a gang of attackers with guns! Yeah, it doesn't happen like that. Training is needed! God even James had a protective suit and a black belt! Alex wasnt allowed out in the field until months of training in that room at the DEO! Mon El wasn't allowed out until Kara thought he had had enough training with her at the DEO, she deemed him ready even though he let one of the fake civilians  heads be lobbed off! That proved a mistake anyway because he left the civilians to get hurt and James had to jump in (kudos to James). Mon El wanted to help Kara, he didnt ‘look before he leaped’.  But at least Mon El had some protection in his body, super strength, speed we saw like once? Kara’s excuse for Mon El was ‘he’s still learning!’and James replied with ‘How many other people will get hurt because Mon El is still learning?’ James was right here, Mon El was not ready and Kara excused it. If he was still learning he really should not have been out there. What if people get hurt because Nia is ‘still learning’ or even Nia herself?
Kara was shot out of the sky when she first became Supergirl, and she can hardly be hurt! Kara was cocky and thought her powers could solve everything, she was proven wrong when Alex turned on the Kryptonite and kicked her cocky Kryptonian ass! Kara also thought she could deal with that Fort Rozz alien with an axe and nearly got herself killed the first time. She nearly got killed by Reactron as well. Kara is lucky to be almost impenetrable though! Nia does not have that privilege.
In conclusion, i feel that that Kara and Brainy (or rather the writers) were desperate to get Nia into the Super friends as quickly as possible that they neglected any real training, things that were addressed with other characters though out previous seasons. Whats more dangerous that a vigilante? An untrained vigilante, without full control of their powers and really no idea what they are doing!
(disclaimer, i overthink i know, but i LOVE Nia! Just give me a prepared Nia who isnt going to get shot in the face because Kara isn't there!)
