Celebratory Blue Lock Boi Yandere Interpretations: Ryusei Shidou, Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, Reo Mikage, Rin Itoshi
Tumblr media
A/N:...Hey hey y'all...🙂 Ok, so I fuckin' lied I am so sorry. 😭 These was sposed to be for my birthday yestaday but the day got so busy and I was tied den a mug, so posting these did not happen. 🙃 But! Alas, I am here now, and I have for you all my introductory yandere interpretations for 5 of the Blue Lock boyos!
Keep in mind, I am still getting caught up on the anime so if anything reads off, I apologize. I'll very likely either come back and adjust these as I become more familiar with their personalities or just post a whole new set for each boy.
Anyway, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Ryusei Shidou:
Let me just say right off the bat that I get the strong notion that Ryusei is gonna swiftly become my favorite character the more exposed I am to him (like I already love his design and that weird sexual edge his character possesses 😏)
That aside, as a Yandere, I envision that he maintains that same intense energy he has about football, it just manifests a little differently
You make his heart “explode,” in a similar fashion to his precious football- either that, or you possess an “explosive” quality within yourself that draws him in
I saw someone say that outside of a few specific circumstances, Ryu is a pretty chill dude, which I think is 100% true
And I believe this can even apply to you, in the Yandere sense as well
Ryusei can be intense, and a little monopolizing
He's also somewhat possessive
But for the most part, as long as he knows you're his and you continue to make him “explode,” Ryusei isn't the worst Yan to have
Now, in my research, I have seen some interpretations of him where he’s much more sadistic than I personally envision him to be, which of course is fine, but just know that my Ryusei can’t really be bothered to act sadistically unless you try to fight him
Exactly why you’d try to do that is beyond me, but if you did happen to want to start a physical altercation with Ryu, he may be inclined to be a little rough with you, just to show a bit of what he’s capable of and also keep you in check
Tumblr media
Yoichi Isagi:
I just look at Yoichi and a single phrase comes to mind- “he’s a sweetheart unless provoked”
You, provoke him
You make this nagging little voice in the back of his head make the Spongebob “wee-woo” sound at like max volume every time you’re in each other’s vicinity
Yandere Yoichi adores you
He’s like a little pup around you, always wanting attention and affirmation and reassurance that he’s the best, and the he’s going to be the best, and that throughout it all you’ll never leave him
But! He can also be kind of intense and maybe a bit of an asshole
Like just look at him and tell me you don’t get that vibe
I’m new to the game as it relates to Blue Lock but from what I’ve gleaned, Yoichi has a sort of metaphorical switch that turns on and off depending on the circumstance
Things get heavy when he’s on the field, and that’s when his “Ego” comes out
It makes him more cocky and confident, from what I understand, and I’d say the same thing applies where it concerns you
For the most part, Yandere Yoichi is just your average puppy with a thigh fetish
But let the “Ego” come out, and now he’s more domineering, controlling and patronizing
Try not to trigger that part of him though, and Yoichi is actually a pretty ok Yandere to have
Tumblr media
Meguru Bachira:
Meg’s a weirdo but one of the lovable variety
He’s a very eccentric character, as I’m sure anyone who’s familiar with Blue Lock will know
He talks about the “monster” that inhabits his psyche and manifests itself when he plays soccer
I don’t particularly subscribe to the idea that this “monster” influences his actions on a normal, day to day basis (though that could be the case and I just missed it in my research) but I can definitely see how one would think it does
I will say that years of simple…cohabitation (?) with the monster has definitely left an indelible mark on Meguru’s mind
Yandere Meguru especially
To Yandere Meguru Bachira, you are perhaps the most important thing in his life
Being bullied for so long and so relentlessly probably wasn’t the best for his mental and emotional wellbeing, as you can imagine, so Meguru has been in desperate need of someone to come along and show him genuine love and support
He’s found that in you, and that’s part of the reason his Yandere personality/tendencies make an appearance when he’s with you
He’s definitely clingy and wants all your attention all the time, and he’s also not very knowledgeable on what it means to give someone their personal space
He doesn’t give you much autonomy either, really preferring to do things for you when given the chance
He can get a little intense, but he’d never hurt you
Physically, at least
And if by some off chance he were to hurt you otherwise, it would never be on purpose
All that said, I do kind of think that Bachira would be one of the slightly more uncomfortable Yans to have, simply on account of his neediness
Tumblr media
Reo Mikage:
FIrst off, let me just say, eat the rich 😤
Chile when I was doin’ my research and saw dis dude’s frankly ridiculous net worth I was appalled
But if he smart enough to know what to do with the money and assets then I guess it’s whateva 🤷🏾‍♀️
Anyway, that aside, let’s focus back up 😂
I could potentially see Reo being one of the more strict Yan’s to have
He just has so much to protect, and that includes you
He’s also probably very used to getting the things he wants and having things go his way that he can’t imagine you not reciprocating his feelings, or at the very least seeing the benefit in choosing him over everyone else
And as we’ve seen (me only partially really, I’m still makin’ my way through the show 🙃) he already has some form of an attachment issue as it relates to Nagi, or alternatively, the things he’s invested time and energy in and on
Which, as you can imagine, would include you, should he decide to pursue you
As a Yandere, Reo is admittedly controlling and a bit smothering
But he’s just like that ‘cus he wants to ensure that nothing will separate you two!
It’s innocent really, honest!
And given Reo’s reputation, it would be rather difficult to convince others that he’s, well, kinda crazy if you were so inclined
But other than that, as long as you remain loyal, Reo’s a pretty fair Yandere
Tumblr media
Rin Itoshi:
Whoo boy, this one’s a tough nut to crack
I honestly think Rin is more tsun than yan but I could definitely see where the Yandere aspect of him could potentially rear its head
I’m not 100% up on my knowledge of what the hell his deal is with his brother, but from what I’ve gathered, there’s this mostly one-sided rivalry (on Rin’s part) towards Sae (his brother, for the uninformed) because he (Sae) refuses to acknowledge Rin in soccer and he abandoned their shared soccer dream from when they were little
That all being the case, I really like the concept that Rin is a Yandere for you because A.) something about you warms something cold and dead inside him and B.) you recognize him as talented and capable outside of his brother’s influence, and he (Rin) desperately clings to that affirmation
Rin is undoubtedly possessive, wanting nothing more than to hide you away where only he can access you or, alternatively, make it known to everyone, in whatever way, that you belong to him
Rin is also somewhat domineering and controlling, as he still doesn’t want anything to tarnish his reputation
I think as a Yandere he’s a little more open to PDA (not by much at all, but just a little)
I also think that, as a Yandere, Rin can be fairly intense without realizing it
Like during games and whatnot, he ups the ante ‘cus he knows you’re watching and he wants to impress you, keep your attention, and have earned your praise when he’s done
That could also apply to him normally sorta, but I think the behavior is more prominent in Yandere mode
All-in-all, Yandere Rin isn’t the most terrible, he’s mostly just…needy, in his own special way

super niche but thinking of "don't tell the bride" hcs of blue lock characters when they get married. ☆° . ▪︎ * ♡
part 1!!! (first time writing hcs like this hope yall like it)
Don't Tell the Bride - British tv show about men designing their entire wedding without any knowledge of what their fiancées want.
Isagi - I feel like he might be normal and do a classic-style wedding but he could definitely make it a themed wedding, probably not anything too bad just an odd color or two. Probably outside, maybe a large, empty park for less intrusion. Would spend the most time picking out your dress, so he might look a bit lackluster by the end of it.
Bachira - He'd probably make it black and yellow because he's black and yellow and if you like it he must be doing something right!! That or some super random theme just because he likes it without thinking of what you might want... He'd have it inside, but not somewhere super nice. It'd probably have bad ventilation. Would also get you whatever dress he liked first without much thought. He doesn't care what he's wearing really ^_^
Barou - I feel like he'd definitely do a classic style wedding; but he'd also do a theme with color, like wine red or navy blue, so still beautiful. Venue would be indoors most likely, maybe even a chapel. Reception would definitely have the theme color in the floral aspects of the space. Would wear a white suit and get a tie of matching color to the theme, and your dress would probably have the most time searched for. (Wants to make sure you feel perfect ♡ so fetch)
Rin - He'd probably have something classic, no theme, but would spend a LOT of time picking out both of your outfits. Never written for rin but he seems like the type to be really attentive about what kind of dress you'd like, so based on the options he might pick the same one you would. Would likely have it in an outdoors floral venue w/indoors reception.
Sae - Same as his brother, he'd have a classic wedding; not caring much for any theme or color palatte. Setting would probably be in a nice building or chapel and reception would be average, indoors as well. Most likely wouldn't spend as much time picking out your dress as Rin would, though. :(
Kunigami - American style wedding seems to be his vibe, but might incorporate some subtle theme based on his/your interest even if you don't care that much about said interest... The venue could be indoors or outdoors, whichever he'd think would be your favorite. Would probably have an indoor reception with your favorite color as design accents. He'd spend a good amount of time finding the right dress for you, something not too cheap or expensive. His suit on the other hand he isn't really worried about.

What are your favorite bllk theories??
I really, really like the theory of Kaiser being the one who destroyed Sae's dreams—it sounds very plausible and also very Blue Lock-esque.
Tumblr media
Sae was around like 13 when he left for Spain to play in Re Al, and even though he was considered a prodigy in Japan, he definitely faced problems in this new team—the second part of this statement isn't exactly explicitly canonically stated, but it has been hinted off many times. Like, the foreign soccer players are just portrayed as someone who is one level higher than the Japanese soccer players.
BUT!
Sae doesn't seem like someone who'd just cower down—even as a kid—in front of problems. He surely fought and worked hard, and it seems like his hardwork did pay off. However, when your results aren't as par your expectations or wishes, you, obviously, become unsatisfied and this dissatisfaction builds up over time and turns to frustration which starts to gnaw you from the inside.
And THAT'S when I think Kaiser entered to hit the final nail in the coffin.
You see, there is about, at least, half a year time difference between Itoshi brothers reunion and the interview of Sae we saw in his first appearance (Chapter 4). And when he was first introduced, he already had Midfielder written underneath his name:
Tumblr media
However, during the Itoshi brothers reunion, the younger Itoshi was very much surprised to hear that Sae is changing his dream:
Tumblr media
I mean, Rin kept tabs on Sae—he read news and articles, so he would definitely be the one, if not the first, to know if the older Itoshi decided to change dreams, but he didn't know! Which further solidifies my belief that it hadn't been that long since Sae lost his dream when he came back to Japan for the first time.
Like, why did Sae even return to Japan for the first time after going to Spain? We were given a proper reason when he returned for the second time—passport renewal—so why weren't we given a reason for the first time itself?
Moreover, 4 years are an AMPLE amount of time for Sae and Kaiser to bump into eachother—they are in the same sports and are of the same age group, they are bound to meet! And we can't forget that Kaiser used to like destroying people!
Also, Sae recognised Isagi, right? But remember what Isagi said about Kaiser during the early days of NEL?
Yeah:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You getting my point?
In conclusion:
Sae and Kaiser played against (or maybe with) eachother during those 4 years -> Kaiser ended up ending Sae's dream -> Sae briefly goes back to Japan
It sounds very plausible!
I also have a personal liking to this theory because I really like Kaiser's character, so I want to see more of him—outside Ness and Isagi.
But kinda sad to think that Sae lost his dream and the first thing he thought of was (going back to) Rin.

Hii I'm starting if you're ready YOU KNOW KAISER IS VERY GOOD BUT IT WOULD BE BETTER TO WRITE SOMETHING ROMANTIC ABOUT KAISER. I will be waiting 🤭
Tumblr media
A/N: with that fucking scary Kira photo, it looks like a threat message. But anything for you my pook pook. 💕 I added some characters by the way 😍.
Characters: Kaiser Michael, Isagi Yoichi, Eita Otoya, Nagi seishiro
Warning: English isn't my first language. I'm sorry If there's any mistakes.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
You're simping for a character and it makes them jealous!
✧Kaiser fucking hates when you simp for a character. He deadpans at the sight and says “Huh? You love them? Babe, They are not real. And how can you love them when you have a king like me.”
✧Isagi knows that he shouldn't be feeling like this. But you pay more attention that character! He definetily hugs you from behind and nuzzles into your neck, “Why are you more interested them than me? You can't even cuddle with them and kiss them. But here I am, come here.” and kisses your cheek :(( WHY ISN'T HE REAL FUCK.
✧I think Eita is chill about it. But he sometimes reminds you that he is the one who is real and your lover, not the character. (Sorry I don't know too much about him!)
✧Nagi plays games too and he has favorite character aswell but he doesn't love them as much as you. And he feels a bit upset when he sees you simping for them :( He wraps his arms around your waist and kisses your all face! “Pretty thing, why are you paying attention them while you have me? Just look at me.” NAGI KISS ME PLS. I'M ON MY KNEES FOR YOU.

ness isn't my favorite character but I feel like Kaneshiro did him dirty with that weird backstory.
he's an abuse victim. kaiser literally throws things in his face when he's angry and says nasty things to him. he's been manipulating him like a dog since he met him. he literally saw him, identified his weaknesses, and calculated how he could best trick him into being his servant.
we all know he's just using ness, but... ness' backstory really doesn't have anything to do with that?
it's just about how he wants to believe in the impossible... but that's dumb.
on paper it makes sense, but in terms of the characters and their relationships? no.
and it comes back, as always, to Kaneshiro's weakness as a writer, which is that he doesn't know how to write characters who aren't obsessed with Isagi.
and his obsession with treating midfielders like women, and having them be pathetic obsessive yanderes whose feelings are unrequited.
ness probably should've had a similar backstory to Kaiser, where he got used to abuse, and that's why Kaiser feels like home to him.
instead, he's just bullied for liking magic in a family of scientists.
that could be vaguely interesting, but not on NESS.
a guy who gets kicked around like a damn puppy every game by Kaiser.
I had a hallucination the other day, a vision of a Ness with a very tragic, Kaiser-like backstory.
if they both grew up with abusive parents, it would make sense, how they cling to each other. it would be suitably tragic too, being trapped in the cycle of abuse. being unable to even comprehend what a normal relationship could be. maybe they have genuine affection for one another, somewhere under the scars, but they don't know how to express it at all, and all they do is draw more scars, trying to connect the dots and understand love through the only thing they've ever known: pain.
it would be spicy to imagine ness being abandoned with this backstory too.
how hard it would be like, to think you've found your person, and things are bad between you two, but it's ok, because it passes, it always passes...
but then Kaiser leaves.
and Ness is stuck with the realization that Kaiser was all he had, and now he's nothing, without him.
sending him spiraling into the abyss...
I'm just saying.
I had a vision of Ness lying on his side, while Kaiser is directly parallel with him, also on his side, clutching that soccer ball, this yin and yang of loneliness and misery...
but nah.
nah, let's do he likes Harry Potter but his family keeps calling him stupid.

Sharing Secrets in the Dark - Reo x Reader
A/N: I think I can stop saying that Reo isn't my favorite...
Tumblr media
“What was the hardest thing in your time at Blue Lock?” Hisako asks the team.
She’s the other Manager besides you and you’re glad she’s here and as bubbly and talkative as you are quiet. You don’t feel pressured to talk when she’s around, let your eyes wander and take in all the little things no one else seems to notice.
Like Reo leaving the room right after Hisako’s question, the look on his face new and uncomfortable.
You get up to follow him, have to remind Isagi that you still exist so that he lets you pass.
Outside, Reo’s already gone, but you have a hunch on where he went.
Unsurprisingly, you find him on the field, dribbling a ball with an almost murderous expression on his face.
“Hi,” you greet him, your own voice echoing in your ears.
He puts a smile on his face the second he hears you talk, but it doesn’t stick. It slides off his lips and reveals the scowl underneath.
“Do you want to talk about it?” You ask, “Or do you want me to start the Blue Lock Man Program so you can play? I’d offer to play Goalie myself but that wouldn’t be much fun for you.”
He hesitates for a moment before he nods. “I’ll shoot some Goals.”
It’s not surprising that he doesn’t want to talk to you. After all, you’ve only been introduced a few days ago and whatever’s bothering Reo, he doesn’t seem to be the kind of person to spill his heart to just about anybody.
You still take a seat on the side, the artificial grass tickling your bare feet as you sit.
Three Goals in, Reo stops to catch his breath and looks over.
“What do you think of Nagi?”
“He’s tall.” You offer and Reo laughs so loud it echoes.
“And what about his character?”
You pull your lower lip between your teeth to think. There’s not just the question of what you think, but also what he might want to hear. Or how he wants to hear it. Reo and Nagi seem close after all.
“I think… he takes a lot of things at face value. If he doesn’t care enough or doesn’t want to spend energy on it, he doesn’t, no matter how important it may seem to others. It could be a bit unnerving because most people tend to create energy to get what they want and go beyond their limits. I mean, I’ve seen him stop eating even though he was hungry just because he didn’t want to chew any longer.”
There’s a faraway look in Reo’s eyes. You wonder if he will tell you, confide in you what bothers him so much.
But just as he opens his mouth, he’s interrupted.
“Starting without us? How rude!” Bachira bounds onto the field, steals the ball from Reo, and passes it to Isagi.
The moment is gone, but you can still feel Reo’s eyes on you even as they play.
-
You turn at the sound of the door.
The rooftop is mostly covered in darkness, but the golden light of the street lamps doesn’t reach the newcomer's face. But you know that hair…
“Hi, Reo.” You speak up from where you’re sitting.
He turns toward you.
“Hey. Are you okay?” His voice is low and careful as if talking to a scared animal.
With a start, you realize that he’s not here to destress himself. He must have followed you up here.
“Yeah, sure.” You croak out and wipe the remaining tears from your cheek. “I just overreacted.”
“I would have reacted the same way.” Reo offers gently, slowly inching closer. “Can I sit with you for a bit?”
“Sure.” You nod even though he can’t possibly see it in the dark. His body is warm next to you, his warmth reaching you even though you’re not touching. He feels safe, like a living, breathing shield. Some of the tension bleeds from your muscles and you sigh, wrap your arms around your knees, and stare at the streets below you.
“Do you think I’m useless?” You ask. “You can be honest. I want to improve.”
“I think Barou is a dick.”
You snort at this decisive comment.
“He’s your teamm-”
“No, don’t make excuses for him. He’s a dick. You’ve been nothing but helpful to all of us. He’s just grouchy because Rin managed to score more goals than him. He gets pissy when someone else is better than him.”
“But Hisako-”
“Don’t tell her, but I think she could talk a little less.” He turns his face, and you think there’s a smile on his lips, but you can’t really tell in the dark.
“You’re just saying that to be nice.”
“I’m not nice. Just honest.” He leans over and brushes his hand against your arm.
Goosebumps rise under his touch. A warm scent fills your nose. It’s not the Blue Lock 3 in 1 body wash scent you’ve come to loathe and your breath catches in your throat.
“Just like I thought. You’re ice cold. May I warm you up?”
“How?” You ask, mouth running dry when he takes your hands into his, thumb running over your knuckles. He brings them to his mouth and blows on them, his warm breath shooting through you like electricity.
Something fizzles between you, a new kind of tension you would never have expected.
You wonder if he’d kiss you, tonight, on this rooftop.
But the moment shatters with the sound of the door being thrown open, Bachira’s voice cutting through the night.
“Reo-chan? Are you out here? We’re looking for you and Manager-chan.”
Reo drops your hand and gets up, dusts himself off as he walks over to Bachira.
“I’m here. I heard a noise, but I think it was a Tanuki.”
“A Tanuki?” Bachira sounds scandalized. “On a rooftop? Are you seeing things?”
“It’s dark out here, okay?” Reo scoffs. “Also it’s way too cold out here for her to be staying outside for so long. She’s probably in her room. Has Barou gotten a grip yet?”
Bachira sighs. “Not yet. But Kunigami is working on it. We think he’d apologize if he saw her.”
“Ah well, serves him right to feel guilty a bit longer. That was uncalled for. Let’s get inside, I’m freezing my ass off out here.”
“Not much to freeze off…” Bachira teases and the door clicks shut behind them.
-
“It’s getting warmer.” You remark a few weeks later.
Just outside the reach of the street lamps, Reo’s shoulder bumped into yours and stayed there. He runs warm and having him next to you is like having a personal space heater.
Ever since that first night, you’ve found yourself up here again and again.
All it needed was a shared look, one eyebrow raised or lips pulled up to one side, and you knew to come up here after dinner.
So far you’ve managed to bring up a blanket and two spare pillows to sit on. Only once you had to turn back at the door because of the weather, heavy rain pelting every available surface.
“What a shame.” Reo mumbles.
“You like the cold?” You ask, always eager to learn more about him.
No matter how many secrets you spill up here, there still seems to be more to know.
By now you know what his worst moment at Blue Lock was - Nagi turning his back on him to play with Isagi, have shared memories of your childhood and dreams of your future.
Talking has never come easy to you, but it does with Reo.
“I like warming you up.” He says and your blood rushes to your head.
“I- don’t… don’t say something like that.” Your voice sounds way too hoarse to be natural.
“What?” He asks and you wonder if you’re imagining the little quiver in his voice. “Can’t I be honest with you?”
“I… I’m just… I…”
“Can I kiss you?” He asks, voice so low you can barely hear him about the noise in your ears. Maybe you even misheard him. He’d never ask that, right? Maybe he asked if you’d miss him. That you can answer easily.
“Yes.” You say, quietly, like a mouse.
Only a heartbeat later his lips are on yours, warm, a little chapped, but so gentle in their touch.
Your heart stops, then barges on, racing in your chest. His hands are on yours, warm fingers around cold ones. You’re holding hands as he kisses you, again and again and again, as if he’s trying to imprint their touch onto you, so that you’ll never ever forget it.
-
The first kiss breaks a dam and the flood takes everything with it.
Reo’s play improves so significantly that Rin and Barou are now constantly wearing a scowl on their face. He doesn’t seem to get tired when playing and when he passes, he risks moves so crazy Bachira comes running right after, hugging him with excited squealing.
You don’t think that anyone suspects anything.
The two of you keep carefully calm around each other. You hardly ever speak to him outside the rooftop, just like you hardly ever speak to anyone.
You hand over towels and waterbottles, massage Chigiri’s leg in between breaks or run from Barou when he misses a goal.
You bite your tongue when Hisako drowns Reo in affection and you keep yourself out of reach of Isagi’s arms - he has developed the annoying habit of hugging people after a good game. Your efforts are rewarded with soft kisses, the caress of his hands, the warmth of his hugs.
More then once have you fallen asleep on the rooftop, curled into each other, your nose pressed against his neck as you inhale a scent you’ll never get tired off.
“I like it when you’re a little jealous.” He tells you one night when you complain about Hisako droning on and on about Reo’s latest streak of victories. “Makes me feel a little better about being jealous myself.”
“Like you have a reason to be.” You tease and lean forward to kiss his nose.
“I just…” He huffs. “I can’t help thinking about Nagi turning away from me. Like I understand in my head that it was necessary for him to improve and that I want him to improve, but everything in me screamed ‘Mine!’ when he did that. I want to you to improve and be better and have a better life too but the thought of you turning away-” He stops in the middle of his sentence and swallows harshly. You press a kiss to his Adam’s apple, trying to soothe his unease.
“I’m not an egoist.” You remind him. “I don’t have to be. I like compromises too. If you can’t have all of two things, you could settle for half of both, right?”
“What do you mean?”
“If Ego finds us out and I have to choose between you and managing Blue Lock, I can’t have both, right? But I could keep being a manager, just for another team and I could… keep you?” You don’t really mean for it to sound like a question, but you’re also not confident enough to believe that he’d want to go through the effort of dating you when you’re not conveniently around.
Reo’s answer is a kiss that silences your doubt.
“When we get our free weekend,” he says when you’re both breathless, molten into the pillows like candle wax, “Will you come with me and meet my parents?”
-
Jinpaichi Ego manages to glare down at you even though he’s sitting and you’re standing.
“It was never the plan to have two managers for this team.” He begins and your heart sends shockwaves of ice through your body.
This is it. He’s kicking you out.
“So while the boys are getting ready for their game today, I have to decide which one of our dear managers I want to keep. I have only one question for you, but I’ll give you a little context.” He smiles and your heart beats so fast and loud, you wonder if he can hear it.
“Today we’re playing against a team of Star Players. I won’t mention their names but since I know you’ve been a soccer fan for quite some time, I can assure you that you’ve always dreamed of meeting them one day. It wasn’t that easy to get them to agree to a game, but I managed to lure them in. Here’s the catch. They will leave with one of our managers, who I praised highly. Now I’m going to ask you your question. Will you be egoistic and go for the best team or will you stay where you are?”
Your mind is racing. Your time with Ego has been significantly shorter than those of the boys but you’ve learned one thing… He often says one thing and means the other.
Does he really want an egoistic manager? Shouldn’t those whose job it is to care about the team be selfless in nature? Also, he didn’t specifically mention that the best team would be the opposing team. With his confidence, he surely meant that the best team would be the Blue Lock team. But what if you misunderstood?
“What’s your answer?” Ego asks and you ball your hands into fists, clench them so hard you can feel your fingernails digging into your skin.
“I want to stay with Blue Lock.”
“Explain your reasoning.”
“I…” You swallow thickly. “I care about this team. And I think they have it in them to be the best team, so why would I settle for a different team?”
Ego’s eyes widen and you wonder if he’s just furrowed his brows, hidden from your eyes by his bangs. You shouldn’t have phrased it as a question.
“I believe you mean you want to stay with Reo Mikage.”
Your heart stops cold. Your mouth is so dry you can’t unstick your tongue from the roof of your mouth.
“If you have nothing left to say, you can go.”
“I…” You cough, try to gather at least some semblance of self-control. “Thank you.” You bow deeply. “For my time here.”
Ego stays quiet, a weird look in his eyes. He doesn’t speak up, and you shuffle out of the room, doing everything you can to keep from crying.
-
Hisako’s sitting on her bed when you enter your shared room, playing something on her phone.
You know she’d been with Ego before you and her unaffected mood is like a kick in the gut.
Ego probably already knew he’d keep her.
You quietly start to pack.
“Oh,” Hisako’s voice stops you in your tracks. “Did Ego say something when we’re going to leave?”
You shake your head and unclench your teeth to speak. “He didn’t but I… it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
“Right, right. Who do you reckon we’ll get to manage? Do you think we’ll play the Japan U-20 again?” She’s twirling her hair around her finger, her eyes locked on the wall as she’s thinking. “I wouldn’t mind massaging Oliver Aiku’s legs.”
You freeze in your movement.
“Did you… Do you want to manage the other team?”
“Of course.” Hisako has mastered sounding like she’s smarter than you whenever she talks. But you might as well just be the only one hearing that. “Blue Lock is about striving to be the best. Who would I be not offering myself to manage the best?”
You don’t answer but she’s already caught on.
“Don’t tell me you said you wanted to stay where you are!”
“I…” You start and close your mouth again.
“Oh, what’s that?” Hisako’s behind you in a heartbeat. Her closeness unnerves you, but you don’t want to be rude. Your eyes race through the room, trying to pick up on something out of order.
“Is that one of Reo’s hair ties?”
You go rigid at her words, watch her pick up one of the distinct purple hair ties he had gifted you a few weeks ago.
“It’s mine.” You rip it from her hands and clutch it to your chest.
Her eyes widen for a moment before she laughs, almost toppling forward with the force of it.
“Oh, poor you.” She stretches out her hand to ruffle your hair. “It’s okay to have a Crush on your players, but you can’t steal their stuff.”
She’s still laughing as she steps away from you again to take a seat on her bed.
Overhead, the speaker cracks to life.
“Girls, we’re leaving in twenty minutes. Please pack all your belongings and meet us at the entrance.”
Hisako huffs. “Twenty minutes? Well, I suppose you can help me pack since you’re finished with your stuff already.”
You nod, glad that she seems to have forgotten about Reo.
“Oh, and make sure to give back his hair tie,” Hisako winks at you as she grabs her duffel bag, “I would hate to have to interfere.”
-
It’s weird to see Hisako’s back on the field, to not have her talk so much nobody’s asking you questions.
You’re constantly on the move, handing Bachira a bottle of water, getting Barou a new towel, avoiding Reo… You barely have time to take in the other team but when you do, you’re taken aback.
You heard about the match against Japan U-20. It had been the main reason for you to apply for the manager position. It must have shaken up the sport because on the other side of the field is the National Team. All of them are adult men in their prime.
And Ego is nowhere to be seen.
No wonder your team is so tense. This could very well end in a disaster.
“How are we even going to win this?” Isagi voices your terror.
“He wouldn’t let us play if Ego didn’t believe we could do this.” Bachira, always the optimist, barely manages to keep up Isagi’s spirit.
Your own worries move to the back as you take in the team.  These boys might not always be the easiest to get along with but you believe in them. You believe in Reo.
“I…” The word leaves your mouth before you realize it. All eyes snap up to you and you feel your knees wobble. Oh no. You hate it when people look at you when you talk.
Somehow you manage to lock onto Reo’s kind eyes, on the vibrant shade of purple of his hair and the curl of his nose as he waits for you to continue.
“... believe in you.” You croak out, wringing your hands. Now that the words are out, it’s a little easier to continue talking.
“If I’d have to choose to manage the best team in the world or Blue Lock, I’d have to choose Blue Lock. There’s no other team as good as you.”
You’re too focused on the slow pull of Reo’s lips to see him coming.
When Ego stars clapping behind your back, you jump away in surprise.
“Well said, Manager. Now, you’ve heard her. I didn’t bring you here to be unsure of your abilities. I brought you here to show them that you’ve got what it takes. You’ve trained under me, you won’t fail. Listen up, I’ll only go over this once.”
-
“Reo. You’re out.” Ego’s voice is cold and careless. You’re standing next to him, muscles tensed from head to toe. You have to fight everything in you not to jump to Reo’s side.
He’d been the focus of some intense defense during the last quarter and one foul had brought him to the floor. You suspected that under the ice pack his knee was turning all shades of blue and purple.
“No! I’m good! I can still play!”
Ego turns his dark eyes to you. “Manager? Tell your boyfriend to listen to his trainer.”
You gasp but no air reaches your lungs.
Someone asks “What?!” and Rin rolls his eyes, calling all of this “Annoying.”
Reo’s eyes are wide open, his jaw slack.
You manage to take in a raspy breathe, than another.
“I…” You start, blinking to get rid of the fog. You swallow hard. “If Reo says he can still play, he can play.”
Reo snaps up as if pulled by an invisible string.
Ego takes a long breathe out throug his nose before he huffs.
“Alright. It’s your decision. If he hurts himself, you’re going to be responsible for it.”
You don’t dare to look at Ego or anyone else. There’s confidence in Reo’s eyes and you nod, forcing yourself to stay as calm as you can possibly be.
-
Blue Lock wins.
You tell yourself that you’re not surprised. It had been a tight squeeze at some point, like it often is, and there are half-moon-shaped red marks on the heels of your hands from squeezing too hard.
But Blue Lock wins and Reo comes running, grabbing you by the waist and lifting you like you weigh nothing, pressing you into him like he’s not just sweated out half the ocean.
“Get a room!” Someone rumbles behind you but you’re laughing.
If Ego kicks you out today, this will make a worthwhile memory.
“Good job, my diamonds in the rough.” Ego drawls, looking over the boys with a fondness in his eyes you can’t have imagined. “This will teach them what they’re up against.”
“Uh…” Someone says behind you and you turn to see Hisako.
You admire her confidence even as her eyes flicker over you and Reo and her brows furrow for a second.
“I’m sorry.” Ego’s voice is too nice to be genuine. A shiver runs down your spine at the sound. “This is no longer your team.”
“But they don’t need a Manager outside of this game.” Hisako points out. “They just told me. I’m…”
“No longer wanted at Blue Lock. You can leave.”
Hisako’s mouth is wide open and you feel bad for her until she screeches like a banshee.
“What about her?!” She points a finger at you. “How’s she allowed to stay? She basically never talks!”
“Last I checked talking isn’t a requirement for being a Manager.” Reo quips nonchalantly.
“Must have messed that up.” Bachira offers sweetly. “Cause all you ever do is talk.”
Hisako turns practically magenta and opens her mouth, but Ego is faster.
“Leave.” His voice leaves no room for argument. “Before I make you.”
-
Your hands holding the tray shake from nerves but you manage to press the button that opens the door.
When you step inside, Bachira hollers your name.
“What are you doing here?” He asks, bounding over to you.
“Reo invited me.” You mumble, looking for him in the crowd.
To your surprise, Kunigami has him in a headlock, ruffling his hair. Next to him is Chigiri, doing a poor impersonation for you.
“But Mr. Ego! I believe in my boyfriend who I love! If he says he’ll win against the National team all by himself, he’ll do it.”
“I didn’t say that!” You disagree and Chigiri snaps out of it, having the decency to blush a little.
“Sorry, Manager-chan!” He laughs.
“We just have to teach this punk some manners.” Kunigami declares. “Has a girlfriend and doesn’t even tell anyone.”
“That’s none of your business!” Reo huffs out and manages to break free. He walks over to you, smile lighting up his face as he pulls you into the circle.
“Sit next to me, okay?”
“Not fair!” Bachira whines. “Manager-chan has the best food on her tray.”
“We all share!” Reo scolds and slaps away a hand that’s moving towards your plate of Takoyaki.
And they do. A piece of everything lands on your plate that never seems to get emptier until you realize that Reo steals food from everyone, slyly putting it onto your plate.
“Stop it.” You hiss and knock your shoulder into his. “I’m going to burst.”
“No such thing.” He says and drops another piece of steak on your plate.
You try to glare before you get distracted by something you’d been craving ever since you got here.
“Oh, is someone eating that pickled radish?” You point at the little bowl. “I love those.”
Laughter rings through the room. It doesn’t feel like it’s at your expense but you still wonder what it was that you said that was so funny.
“By the way…” Barou clears his throat and pins you down with a glare. “I wanted to say sorry.”
Someone gasps and you can’t hold it against them.
You swallow, feel the warmth of Reo next to you and the fullness of your belly, how a day filled with excitement has made you tired. You smile.
“I forgive you.” You pause for a second, take a breath. “But if you ever say something like that again, I’ll slap you!”
There’s a lot of laughter after that. Like when Nagi drapes himself over your shoulder, asking if you want to be his girlfriend too - and declaring a relationship too much work when you explain why that won’t be possible.
At some point the space between yawns turns so short you can barely talk and Reo pulls you up.
“I’m going to walk you to your room,” he declares, pulling you from the boys that make exaggerated kissing noises.
His thumb rubs over the back of your hand as you stumble along.
Just one corner away from your room he pulls you close and stops to press a kiss to your mouth, to edge of your jawline, the curve of your neck.
“I love you.” Reo mumbles, his breath washing over you.
“I love you.” You say, wrapping your arms around his neck.
In a way this reminds you of the beginning of you two, alone in a hallway, sharing secrets.
But this is no longer the beginning and there’s no end in sight.

I like Noel Noa a lot as a mentor character. While he's not my favorite mentor figure ever, I do think he's still a really cool character and that's simply because as time goes on we learn through what he says and does that he himself doesn't really view himself as "The worlds best". That is just some title that all these other people have generally pushed onto him.
Tumblr media
Like when you first start Blue Lock you're of the opinion that Noa is this unbeatable god of a soccer player, and that nobody can ever be on his level. But then there are times where even putting Noa in the game isn't some instant win for his team. The people Noa is surrounded by are just as amazing if not more so, than he himself is.
And I think this quality of his, to be so ordinary amongst the extraordinary is why he gravitates a lot towards Isagi, because he is also a pretty great player among even greater players. And yet all of the other players want to beat Isagi, just like how all of these top soccer players are pretty much still vying for Noa's spot as number 1.
Tumblr media
This whole match has really been about what it takes to "stay" as number 1. Not just what it takes to reach there, but what you need in order to keep your spot. We see Kaiser trying to beat Isagi but failing because he doesn't understand what makes Isagi tick, there's Lorenzo who believes he can become number 1 and stay there as long as he has the most money out of all the players on the field, we have Snuffy who is using an entirely new method that goes against the egoist theory that Ego created for Blue Lock and so much more. All these players are trying to beat someone else in one or another, and the biggest mystery is trying to figure out what they need in order to truly be number 1.
I like that this arc, despite being so slow and sort of mundane, has introduced new ideas about egoism in general and even went against the main egoist theory that's been persistent in the series so far. But not in a way that yells "Actually teamwork DOES work" because that's not how Snuffy's theory works.
Tumblr media
I think it's so cool that Blue Lock managed to take the idea of "teamwork" and morph it into something that's still very inherently selfish. Instead of thinking for yourself, you think like a machine and just go through all the motions with the help of one person who is truly going to take credit for a lot of these plays, because he literally invented them for this game. Now in this match "Teamwork" isn't something that bonds them together, they aren't working together for the sake of making their own goals, but of purely winning and beating the other side.
They're all still separated by some wall like separate cogs in a machine that make it all work together. And they're going up against people who all have their own goals in mind, people who haven't turned their brains off during the game to just "play' and win, but to do other goals.
Tumblr media
And Raichi is literally the perfect wrench to throw into this machine to break it's flow. Raichi has done such a great job of doing what he was told to do from the beginning, and he's been the one constant in their game. In order for them to get on a more even playing field, they need to have some level of consistency to their own play style. They need to be slightly organized to get on the level of a machine.

Watched this a few days ago but wanted to post my thoughts lol

-
NAGIREO ANGST EP LETS GO
Tumblr media
Reo's lines in this...it's like a romantic soap opera
-
CHAMELEON AWAKENING YEAHHH
-
Tumblr media
Okay little rant time...
I understand why they had to downplay reo's skills bc they can't let him be too op...but...
He is ridiculously skilled. Even if he is limited by physical factors like height, weight, strength, etc. he was still sharp enough to copy yukimiya's (aka #5 in bllk's) gyro shot after seeing it ONCE. Like isagi, he can bypass his physical weaknesses by using intelligence and other trained skills.
Not to mention the fact that he's only been playing soccer for six months pre bllk? Like, if he's compared to anyone other than nagi, he would be placed on genius level imo.
Reo isn't my favorite character, but I think he's one of my favorite players, just because I think he has insane untapped potential that gets kinda stifled because the creator wants more of the spotlight for people like isagi, rin, and nagi. (I also think that separation benefits reo way more than it does nagi, but that's another rant.)
[I saw someone mention that bc there's only 1 woman in this manga, that some of the pretty midfielders get the shafting usually done with female characters...and while it's not really the same. I kinda get it.]

RYUSAE IN TBE FUTURE LETS GOOOO
Would literally sell my soul for an additional time that's just their post-u-20 bllk date...please...I'll never make a comment about the animation again...

Helloooo, hope it's ok if I reply here! Also I forgot to apologize in advance for my terrible English, hope it's understandable!
What a relief to find someone who actually understands Kaiser! He's one of my absolute favs together with Rin and Isagi, but I never really spoke much about him since I noticed the fandom has a bad habit of misinterpreting him. AND Kaisagi in general. No, Isagi is not his soft-uwu toyboy, he's a badass, a menace and if anything, it's him that would put Kaiser in his place. And yes, they totally hate each other. Like, super hate. And that borderlines on obsession from Kaiser's part. (Ngl, that's my favorite part in all Isagi's ships, how he's unbothered, moisturized, living his best life, and the counterpart is decaying in their obsession in beating him. God, he's such an icon.) Their mutual disdain is what makes the ship so balanced, and also the reason why I dislike Kainess, I don't really appreciate the power imbalance and how submissive Ness acts around him. He deserves better than that. Oh, how I would love to see him leave Kaiser in the dirt to fight alone: that would be such a great character development for both of them. Ofc I'm not judging anyone who ships Kainess, it's a perfectly valid ship! I just love both Kiis and Rnis cause they check all of the boxes of the chemicals in my brain. And when the Kaiser flashbacks drops? I'm gonna go absolutely crazy. I need to be the worm in his brain and understand him in a much deeper way than Kaneshiro ever could.
(Also, I love your headcanon about their alternative jobs. I tried to come up with something for Rin too, and I concluded that he definitely could only ever work in front of a computer, where he would never have to interact with people - and traumatize them with his weird bullshit, lmao). (Oh, and Kaiser would be an even worse boyfriend than Rin, let's be real. One small argument and he's dumping your ass to ""find himself"" like any mediocre fuckboy).
Yes, despite my BLLK obsession I'm keeping up with other mangas! I've been reading One Piece since I was a child, but lately I got invested in Chainsaw man, Choujin X, Kagurabachi, Bungou stray dogs and My hero academia, too. What about you??
Of course, it's totally okay!!
And hello fellow Kaiser fan, great to meetcha!!
And yes. A lot of people mischaracterise Kaiser- either as an Isagi simp (most common in fanfictions) or a complete asshole with no depth.
KaiSagi characterisation tends to be even worse (which, this is NOT me criticising authors at all, people are entitled to write what they enjoy!), but either Kaiser or Isagi gets reduced to a desperate simp trying to get into each other's pants (mostly I have seen this with Kaiser, actually) and that's not very likely.
The charm of KaiSagi is their mutual hate, and the ways they overcome that!
And yes. You hit the nail right on the head! Such unbalanced ships, like KaiNess (SasuSaku or NaruHina from Naruto) are the one kind of ships I can never get behind. Whether it's love or hate, it needs to be mutual for me to enjoy it. Power unbalance is not my thing but different strokes for different folks and all that
And yes, Kaiser currently obsessed with destroying Isagi while all Isagi wants to be is no 1 is a delicious flavour and Kaneshiro is cooking
I need an explanation. Of everything regarding Kaiser. That flashback needs to be longest flashback in the manga. I want a biography I can write a thesis on.
(True!! He definitely isn't a people person. He will most likely be doing a job that requires minimum human contact lol)
(And yeah, Kaiser is such red flag, we'd need rose colored glasses to date him 😝)
Hehe. Fellow CSM fan!! My fav is Denji, and I am eagerly awaiting Season 2!
And although I haven't seen the rest of them, I have they are very good anime as well!
My absolute favourite would be Naruto, as I have been in that fandom for years as well. Apart from that, I am currently keeping up with Solo Leveling and Windbreaker!
(Although listing all the animes I have watched will require a separate post, I watch a lot of them!)
Ps: Your English was lovely, no worries!!

˚˳⊹ Their Bubble Tea Order: Blue Lock ˚˳⊹
included: bachira, chigiri, isagi, kaiser, nagi, reo, rin
note: i'm back AFTER A CRAZY LONG ASS HAITUS, i'm so sorry 😭 life got on my ass and i'm applying for grad schools now! i am on break until august so i hope to come up with some new content from new fandoms i've gotten into, one including this little show that captured my heart although i have never played soccer! give me suggestions about drabbles and headcanons in my asks or comments!! these are my headcanons, nothing here is canon!
Tumblr media
Bachira
~ I can see him liking his drinks super sweet, a ton of sugar
~ Opts for a brown sugar milk tea or anything with 100% sugar (might even ask for extra sugar if it's allowed)
~Also the type to get extra boba to the point where the workers wonder if he's okay
~ He just needs the extra sugar so he can stay up all night~
~ If he's bored with his usual order he is not opposed to getting Thai milk tea or house milk tea but there's something about sugar milk that just keeps him coming back for more
~ Gets the largest size in order to share with his monster
Chigiri
~likes sweet drinks and fruit flavors
~ strawberry, peach, mango, passionfruit, anything goes
~also likes lemonades
~ sometimes likes the milkshakes and slushies but isn't the biggest fan of them
Isagi
~ a simple dude, def the type to get just a classic milk tea or the house-recommended tea
~ isn't one to stray from his usual order but might change toppings and add cheese foam depending on his mood
~is very particular with his order, gets upset if it tastes different than usual (won't complain though, he knows better than to yell at minimum wage workers)
~ sees bubble tea as a quick treat after soccer practice or a good meal
Kaiser
~strikes me as a fruit tea kind of guy, anything with berries, passionfruit, and peach
~ prefers fruit jelly or aloe vera over boba
~ chugs that shit so fast, does NOT savor it at ALL
~ likes his tea unsweetened or as little sweetener as possible
~ is a sucker for seasonal flavors
Nagi
~ boy probably just drinks whatever reo gets him tbh
~ BUT probably wants something caffeinated asf so he can stay up gaming at night
~ coffee milk tea or earl gray milk tea are favorites of his
~ likes coffee jelly for the extra caffeine intake
~ if there's a 2 L size like at some of those shops, reo would get it for him (this boy is so lucky istg)
Reo
~ my favorite character :))
~ man this guy has fancy taste
~ changes his order a lot but options include rose milk tea, sakura milk tea, taro, some mocktail mojito option, etc
~ a fan of floral flavors (me too bro)
~ not a huge sweets person so is slow at drinking it, can drink a medium size all day
~ likes drinks that look pretty and jellies that have cute shapes
Rin
~ likes matcha and doesn't waver often
~ occasionally gets a cold foam tea but it is not often since he is a man of routine
~ drinks it like pre-workout
~ no toppings kind of guy

sae has weirdly been my fav blorbo for a long time but when considering his type I've come to realise that he probably wouldn't be into nerdy or not conventionally pretty girls. + I don't think that sae is the type to commit at all like. he's just there to fuck around and then leave and if anything the fb trope would be more fitting for his character (imo). and everytime I read fluff about him it's just so ooc to me I can't help it 😭 I mean he does have a lot of toxic traits and could be considered 'a horrible person' but yea idk you always have this deep analysis of characters I was wonder what you'd think about sae and this topic specifically haha hope I didn't bother
i disagree with this characterization of him for a lot of reason
i don't pay a lot of attention to what the fanon interpretation of sae is and im sure this aligns with his image but i dont personally think that this assessment of his character makes a lot of sense. i do understand where it comes from though !!!
i believe that a lot of this miscommunication of his characterization stems from his relationship to rin, but i've broken that down as to why i don't think sae hates rin. in fact in his own way i think he views his own harsh behavior as a way to shield rin from reality (though it had the opposite of his intended affect) i also don't believe that sae is a vapid or shallow player off-field, and that's largely in contrast to his personality before he left for spain and after.
sae is always viewed to be cold, blunt, and serious but he is also deeply affectionate of rin in their adolescence. his major change happens while we're overseas and while we don't know yet what happened specifically - it's clear to me that something borderline traumatic happened. this type of change of character through rigorous training happens to kunigami through the wildcard system and this type of betrayal that leads to betterment is a theme in bluelock as well (i.e. nagireo)
im of the belief that saes arrogance and crass way of speaking developed largely as a defense mechanism as his goal of being a striker was shattered through playing in spain. in the same way kunigami views being a "hero" through soccer as a stupid ideal post wildcard.
sae is a normal guy outside of soccer. he even says that one of his major flaws is that he's pretty clueless about everything other than soccer. his least favorite food is fries, not because he hates the taste but because he can't have them because of his nutrition restrictions. his 'fetish' is ass because he thinks it can show what kind of an athlete someone is. all somewhat silly and ultimately regular things
all that being said - i don't think sae is a shallow person. i think he thinks very deeply and logically about a lot of things and he is indefinitely arrogant, but not shallow which is why i think it wouldn't make sense for him to judge on appearance. it'd be more accurate to assume that he's sort of dense and doesn't pay attention to people who aren't in his immediate circle. the assumption that he would make judgements on your appearance if you're just a regular joe-schmo doesn't quite connect to me. he's not insecure enough to do that.
on the issue of commitment - my only opinion is that sae is a character who values independence of sense of individualism in his partners. anyone with a strong sense of self is someone he is drawn to. this is why he likes isagi and shidou and often reprimands rin because he lacks a sense of selfhood and self confidence. rin only realizes that post the u20 match.
my point being that i think sae can and will commit to somebody but there's a lot more factors for a character like him that others like isagi or chigiri or kunigami who are naturally emotionally in tune with you.
sae isn't and will never be a 'romantic' person in the traditional sense to me but i don't think it means he's incapable of love or commitment. he has a hard time communicating verbally and saying things to your face but he remembers everything you said from your last conversation and pay attention to your hobbies. if you argue, you'll always find a vase of flowers in your kitchen with a note but you always have to call first. he's not Good about the emotional aspect because even if he puts in a lot of effort - it's never going to come naturally to him
BUT that also means if you're able to meet him half-way he's a committed and decent lover to you. he tries really hard to be and it takes some patience because he's sometimes too logical and hurts your feelings but he's there where it matters etc.
this is an essay SORRY KFDHJKSD. ive spent a lot of time thinking about him and giving him depth. and im not defending him necessarily because he is a massive douchebag for a lot of your early relationship. just not for shallow or petty reasons. simply bad at coping with his emotions and expressing himself because he's very prideful

BABE WAKE UP I STARTED WATCHING BLUE LOCK
I'm on like episode 8 or something so I haven't really decided on a favorite yet but I am looking disrespectfully at Kunigami... (I feel like this is so predictable lmao) but I love that everyone is a little insane and honestly I kinda love that the main character development seems to be that he's becoming a shittier person??
Anyway I'm finding it very entertaining so far even though I don't know the first thing about soccer lol. I'm curious who your faves are tho?? 🖤🖤
why you exactly described my thoughts about isagi 😭 it was exactly how i felt when i watch it, a mc who doesn't want to save everyone and isn't driven by the power of love…and looks out for his well being first…i'm a little hard right now, his selfishness does things to me.
and Kunigami actually is the character that caught my attention the most before watching the anime but surprisingly other characters caught my attention more, but i can totally understand why you like him. he is among characters i like a lot.
definitely my favorites are isagi and barou. honorable mentions: bachira and nagi 🤍 i'm very very excited that you liked it and that you're watching it! they're all i could think of lately and i'm glad to have you on my side when my brainrot starts attacking me lskdkd

Hello, I just finished Blue Lock anime. Before I read the manga, can I ask something? Will there be heart touching background stories or motivations like in Haikyuu? Before I read the manga, I already got excited when watching the matches in Haikyuu and cry when they lose a match. And also their background stories and motivations are some of the best moments from any manga that I've read....
Will the characters from Blue Lock realize the importance of team work? Also is it just me but I think Hinata is more loveable as mc than Isagi? The Blue Lock's characters way of thinking kinda remind me of Akashi from Kuroko no Basket before he realized his mistake (but what do you think?)
Sorry if I ask too much.....
Hmm, I think there are some similarities between the two series, but overall I think with their themes being so different (I talk a little bit more about that here) I hesitate to compare them too much. Blue Lock doesn't have any training arcs like Haikyuu, 90% of the time it's them developing their skills during the matches, with occasional flashbacks to show them develop it during their off time. Hard work, motivation, teamwork, all of these things are present in Blue Lock but I think they are presented and explored in very different ways imo. The concept of teamwork within Blue Lock has been particularly interesting in I wanna say the last 30-40 chapters with passers/midfielders having a lot more agency lately and just as much control over the field as the strikers do.
Also I do think there are some really good backstories in Blue Lock, if you've seen the anime I like Chigiri and Bachira's stories quite a bit, but I think they start to get REALLY good with Rin/Sae, Yukimiya (my personal favorite), Hiori, and Ness. There is also a highly anticipated backstory for a certain fan favorite character coming up maybe in the next chapter, or at the very least the next couple of chapters. I won't spoil any of the backstories, these are just the ones that have stuck out to me the most.
Unfortunately I've not watched the anime you mentioned above, but in terms of Isagi, he might surprise you. Is he more likable than Hinata? No, maybe not. I didn't care for him much at the start either. But even though he is built like an npc and sao kirito knock off (said with love <3), I think it's really cool to see him kind of grow into a player who can lead others towards his vision, it's his one tool that he has as he is always one of the weaker players in terms of athleticism. I think he is really pushed and challenged by the supporting cast in some really interesting ways, but I don't want to spoil anything lol.
Overall I would say if you're through with the anime, read through the third selection and the U-20 match, and if by the end of that match you still aren't too interested, Blue Lock probably isn't for you, which is ok! It's very different compared to most sports series and is just not going to be for everyone.

Note
I have some unpopular opinions. Sorry that they're long and became a bit ranty.
I like Igaguri and the Wanima brothers.
I wish Reo got more meaningful interactions with characters besides Nagi, it feels like atm he has no friends outside of Nagi (RIP Zantetsu, Chigiri is Nagi's friend but hasn't been shown as being more than "friend of a friend" with Reo). He's one of the best-written characters (especially whenever Nagi isn't in the scene), it's sad how he's so often reduced by some fans to just being a Nagi simp whose entire world revolves around Nagi and who will die if Nagi spends even a millisecond breathing the same air as Isagi.
Nagi and Chigiri's friendship is underrated and I wish we got to see more of it. It's just a genuine normal friendship, Chigiri is Nagi's first normal friend with no strings attached, they just became friends by fooling around. They even continue hanging out (with Bachira too) after Isagi leaves to see Tada-chan despite Nagi saying he was going to leave too.
Rin-Isagi is the most boring of all the rivalries in the series. Their personalities, designs and playstyles don't clash enough for what is seemingly set up as being the story's main rivalry. It also doesn't help how one-sided it is for most of the story and we don't get to see any of it after Rin acknowledges Isagi as a rival. They feel too similar atm, so it comes across more as a minor rivalry (like Niko-Isagi) instead of a major one (Kaiser-Isagi, Shidou-Rin).
Speaking of Rin rivalries, Rin-Bachira could have been a great one. Bachira needs a proper rival, he's pretty friendly with most of the relevant cast and outside of Isagi, none of his relationships with the rest of the cast really stand out except for him being a bit passive-aggressive with Rin and Shidou. He has a lot of personality, design and playstyle clashes with Rin that it would have been fun to watch/read. A bit of a wasted opportunity.
Hey @08theverysmallhuman here’s a fellow Igaguri fan. As for the Wanima brothers, I don’t really have much of an opinion on them. We haven’t seen big bro in a while.
And Reo is friends with Isagi! We don’t see them together much, but these two has had several meaningful conversations. This one is my favorite:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’ve also seen Reo reach out to Kunigami:
Tumblr media
I agree with you though that Reo deserves more friends! He’s more than just a Nagi simp.
And oh, I’d love to see more of Nagi and Chigiri just hanging out. Maybe we’d get to see more of it if the manga shows us the aftermath of the Germany vs England match on nagireo’s side. I think Nagi and Reo are gonna have another conflict soon. When that happens, Chigiri can be there for Nagi.
As for the Rin-Isagi rivalry, I actually think it’s similar to Kaiser-Isagi but of a lower level since Kaiser is on a higher level. Both the Rin and Kaiser rivalries are similar in that Rin and Kaiser are basically just better versions of Isagi. What Isagi learns from both of them is a more advanced way of seeing the field–improved spatial awareness, so to speak.
And actually, I don’t think Rin is Isagi’s main rival. Rin is only the main rival in the Second Selection and u20 arc. In the NEL arc, the main rival is Kaiser.
After ch202, I think we’ll see more variety in the Isagi rivalries where it isn’t just Isagi vs Better Isagi. Isagi has achieved metavision, which is probably the peak of his spatial awareness weapon. Now, he needs to work on his physical skills to really be the best striker.
May I also push my agenda that Isagi’s main rival/final boss is going to be Bachira? Bachira is a very skilled player, and skills are what Isagi lacks the most. Not to mention the contrast in how they operate: logic vs intuition. There’s a lot of build-up for it too. I’m gonna have to write a meta on it someday.
And yesss, I also really want Bachira to have his own rival. Rin-Bachira would be interesting, but so is Kaiser-Bachira. But those two are already Isagi’s, so I hope the rival is a new character or a character not yet explored much. I’m hoping it’s Aomori’s Messi, Nishioka, who we are yet to see. Bachira-Ness and Bachira-Kurona would be good if author wants to explore Bachira’s midfielder potential. But personally, I prefer if it’s a striker vs striker rivalry. And seriously, among the list of possible striker rivals, only Bachira-Isagi has been built up a lot.

Blue Lock Thoughts(tm) Post
So I read Blue Lock up to the U-20 match and let me just say that having a lot of thoughts about it is an understatement. These are not Smart(tm) thoughts at all, just me screaming into the void. I'll mostly be talking abt third selection up to U-20 match so spoilers for up to ch 148!!
Chigiri and Kunigami
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MY SHIP... The third selection truly made them so Spicy. They could've been the dynamic duo that perseveres together all the way through the selection, but they got separated and Kunigami didn't even make it PAST the third selection, at least, not in the normal way. I was upset at the reveal (I was very embarrassingly yelling to my friend in voice chat while reading) because I missed their banter. But now that I think about it, we now have the knight/hero rising up from the ashes to meet his princess again and I'm now so glad this was the outcome. As my friend so eloquently put it, it's super cool that Blue Lock isn't afraid to separate their duos. Which brings me to the next duo...
2. Reo and Nagi
Reo's separation from Nagi is honestly the best thing to happen to both of their characters. Reo didn't really interest me as a character until Nagi left him and he was all gunning for revenge. I thought they were going for some sort of villain arc with him, but what they did was SO much better. Yes, Reo was understandably bitter for some time, but he changed stances and saw it from a different point of view really quickly. We literally watched him go through the 5 stages of grief.
Tumblr media
And then come back stronger after his acceptance. Even finding a crazy ability to call his own.
Tumblr media
And he OWNS it too. That moment when Shidou made fun of him for being a copy-cat, he DOUBLED DOWN ON IT and taunted him for not even being able to beat a copy-cat. Now that's the ultimate power move.
My favorite favorite FAVORITE thing is... he is still a duo with Nagi. They still sync perfectly well. They still know each other the best. Reo turned his spite on its head and came back to Nagi at full force.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What can I say except NAGIREO REAL!!!!! OK next point.
3. Bachira & Isagi
Honestly, I kinda didn't expect Bachira and Isagi to develop almost like a parallel to Nagi and Reo. I love how Bachira is portrayed. He obviously has some mental disorder (I'm guessing ASD or adjacent) and the way it's portrayed as a monster which Bachira eventually hones into his own... At first he just wanted friends, he wanted people who play just like him, to accept him as he is and that was what Isagi was to him. But in the end having others accepting him wasn't enough. He had to accept HIMSELF, his monster. And because of that he came in SEVENTH after the third selection!!!
Honestly, it was one of the most satisfying character development moments.
Tumblr media
And again, after that, his and Isagi's duo play just comes out stronger.
Tumblr media
Just Dynamic Duo Things.
3. Barou and Rin
I put these two together because they feel like the ultimate sports trope subversion. It's almost BLASPHEMOUS how they essentially become the egotistical "villains" of the field.
Tumblr media
I love Barou as a character too, he is SO GAP MOE. Who would've thought that he was a malewife that was obsessed with keeping things neat? I want to destroy his ass. Ahem.
Anyway, Rin. He literally went fucking BONKERS at the idea that he has a team behind him. HE WANTS IT ALL TO HIMSELF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS SHIT WOULD LITERALLY NEVER FLY IN A NORMAL SPORTS STORY. Which brings me to my favorite thing about Blue Lock
4. It is simultaneously a love letter AND a blasphemy to the sports genre.
I had a Kuroko no Basket phase years ago and I KNOW a KnB inspired story when I see one. Of course there's references and concepts that Blue Lock obviously borrowed from KnB. I could easily list all of them like the concept of "Flow" that is totally not KnB's "zone", the copy guy, the "emperor style", Aryuu Juubei who is totally not a homage to Murasakibara... References and concepts are easy to insert into any story. The important part is the Utter Unhingedness. They took KnB's barely believable superpowers and high school drama and all these high stakes that are totally just made up in the characters heads... and turned it up to 11.
KnB was a level of "skirting the boundary of what's humanly possible" that is still acceptable. Yeah, people thought it was insane and were laughing about it, but it didn't really have "haters". It's still just regular sports. But Blue Lock said fuck that, they're going to be straight up CONTROVERSIAL. There's no point if it doesn't have passionate haters. This isn't sports as you know it. And I respect that so much honestly. (If you've been on anitwt recently, you'll know that fans of conventional sports stories DESPISE Blue Lock).
I think with the sports genre becoming this Big Thing(tm) and the market somewhat becoming saturated over the years, this kind of blasphemy is exactly what the genre needs right now.
Speaking of blasphemy...
5. Itoshi Sae vs. Itoshi Rin
I love the whole angel vs demon thing going on with them. I love Sae's beautiful perfection and Rin's feral animal-like approach
Tumblr media
(short digression, as a STEM major nerd I fucking LOVE the numbers in the visualization of Sae's abilities. I'm betting that it's the golden ratio because you won't get a number more perfect anywhere else!!)
I love their entire silent sequence against each other. No dialogue, no SFX. They were silently communicating with their bodies and with their eyes the way only brothers could. In a way, this is brotherly bonding :D
Tumblr media
I love that Rin, and the Blue Lock team, is painted as the "villains" of the sports scene. And they won against U-20, the "heroes". They changed sports forever.
6. The unseriousness of it all (my lovehate letter to Isagi Yoichi)
In the end this is a manga about SOCCER. The characters take it WAY too seriously because they're dumbasses who literally only have soccer in their brains. It's honestly hilarious at times. But damn, if I'm not invested in this unreal, unserious, BFFR shit!!! Every time Isagi realizes something that is common sense (like when he "discovered" that luck also plays a part in games) I die a little bit inside.
Tumblr media
BOY YOU ARE STUPID AND DRAMATIC AND GAY AND I LOVE YOU. Blue Lock would not be the same if Isagi wasn't the protagonist. If you think about it, every insane visualization of everyone's abilities is how ISAGI sees their abilities. This shit we are seeing, all the puzzle pieces, the fire, the thunder... is all in Isagi's head. And once he gets out of the game, he's literally just an awkward high school boy.
Tumblr media
I guess he can be cute sometimes.
8. (For now) I don't think Blue Lock will end the way Ego says it will. (A love letter to Ego)
Muneyuki Kaneshiro you did it again. If you haven't read his other work, Kamisama no Iutoori and Kamisama no Iutoori ni, please do so. Having read those, I'm half-convinced that he'll pull an Akashi on us and give Isagi a canon love interest by the end AHAHA.
Digression aside, Ego said that by the end, there will be 1 striker to stand above all 299 "corpses" as he so elegantly put it. But I honestly don't think that'd happen. I have no basis for this other than the fact that it would just feel WRONG to end it like that. They wanted the sport to evolve by "creating soccer from zero", playing different positions with the ego of a striker. Honestly, I wouldn't see the point in all that when there's only 1 striker to survive in the end, you feel me?
Ego may have only said that to rile the boys up. He's playing the role of the ultimate "villain" for the boys to conquer. Now that's a very questionable approach to coaching but it sure fucking works!!! I really really love it.
Tumblr media
And he KNOWS his methods are questionable at best, enough to get him banned from the world of soccer forever. He didn't care about himself if it meant these boys will evolve and play the ultimate soccer.
Tumblr media
He really knows how to cultivate the perfect little "villains". Sure, it involved literally isolating them from the outside world in what is the equivalent of Soccer Jail, but you gotta do what you gotta do! :D
Honestly my wishful thinking is they end up with 11 top Blue Lock players (maybe a few more for the bench) and they get to compete internationally or something. Go beyond the scope and scale of regular sports manga... But I guess I'll just have to see what happens next!
OK. Alright. I think I'm done now. If you read this all, thank you for coming to my TED Talk!!!!
