#is it because Oreo is a trademark of Nabisco that cookies and cream ice cream isn't just called Oreo ice cream?

Of course the outsides of a standard ice cream sandwich are a kind of cookie, but I've never seen them independent of the ice cream. I'm thinking that the controversial one should probably be called a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich, for clarity (and because it's also studded with chocolate chips on the sides of the puck of ice cream).

So.

Chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. It's a mouthful, but that seems appropriate.
