#is it bad that I'm thinking about the threshold lizard babies

Concept: the threshold lizard babies were conceived via parthenogenesis like mourning geckos and if de-evolved would be tiny janeway clones?

Gosh, I would absolutely love if the babies were created by parthenogenesis because the way salamanders mate is just........ freakin weird man.

Janeway clones would be so fun!!!!! and terrifying. Can you imagine Chakotay having to keep FOUR Kathryns from over-caffeinating??? And you'd have three tiny girls with their mother's "let's poke it with a stick and find out" mentality on a starship which I'm sure would never result in any bad things ever. Oh, and imagine Tom's dilemma; like "yeah, I suppose I was also a lizard and I.... was present for the creation of these children and I kidnapped their mother and turned her into a lizard which technically resulted in their existance but like, do I have a parental responsibility to them? Am I their dad? Or do I just let Chakotay take over from here and pretend I was never involved?"

On that note, I'd love to see Chakotay just love the heck out of the kiddos. Like, he would probably just fully accept them and take care of them (yeah I know we rag on him about leaving the babies behind on the planet in the first place but I'm assuming, based on his character in the rest fo the show, that he did due diligence and made sure they couldn't be turned into humans first) and it would be CUTE. Like imagine Chakotay and Kathryn watching the triplets together and falling asleep on the ready room couch, a baby or two in their arms as they lean on one another. And Kathryn would probably wrestle a lot with not wanting her daughters to carry her guilt and make her same mistakes, but I think she would also just love her girls a lot. It would totally add some more weight to some of the already high-stakes moments in the show (i.e. Year of Hell).

And, of course, the crew would totally embrace them. B'Elanna would have one that follows her around engineering all the time. One of them hangs out with Uncle Harry when he's off duty and he teaches her the clarinet. All three of them think Tuvok is the coolest thing ever and hang around him during meal times, pestering him for more stories from Vulcan history and trying to get him to smile. When Seven comes around, they form a brigade with Naomi to gather As Much Information As Possible about the new crewmember. Neelix would bake them pastries all the time (with some insect-based protein in it because, even though they look human, sometimes they still have some.... reptillian tendancies).

and when they get back to earth and Chakotay and Kathryn have a son together the boy grows up with three VERY overprotective older sisters who love him so much

Anyway, I'm in love with this AU now and I'm gonna be thinking about it for a while!
