Rishabh Pant Enjoys First Nets Session In Indian jersey After 16 Months, Gears Up For T20 WC
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had his first nets session for Team India after at least 16 months, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup opener against Ireland, scheduled for June 5.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be played in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to 29. The Men in Blue will also play Bangladesh in their only warm-up game on June 1 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Pant, who returned to competitive cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year following a life-threatening road accident in December 2022, will be making his much-awaited return to the blue colours of the Indian jersey.
In the recently concluded IPL 2024, Rishabh's team Delhi Capitals finished in the sixth spot with seven wins, seven losses and 14 points and failed to move to playoffs. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155 with three half-centuries and emerged as the team's top run-getter.
Pant looked in great shape while practicing, having lost a lot of weight, and sported a much leaner look ahead of the tournament.
In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant said, "This is one thing I missed a lot (practicing with the Indian team and playing for them). Getting back on the field with the Indian jersey on, it is a different feel altogether and this is something I missed a lot. I think seeing the teammates and meeting them again, spending time, having fun with them, enjoying having conversations, really enjoying it."
Pant said that playing in the USA is a different prospect and it has opened a whole new channel for the sport.
"We are used to playing in certain countries but this is a different prospect. It has opened up a different channel for sport because I feel cricket is growing around the world and getting in a country like the US and getting the exposure here would be nice for cricket as well as USA cricket I guess," he said.
He said he is getting used to the conditions and the sun shines a little brighter here in the US and there are new pitches.
"So just getting used to conditions over here and let us see how it goes. Hopefully, I make it count and make it more better from here," he concluded.
In seven T20 WC matches and five innings, he has scored 87 runs at an average of 21.75 across 2021 and 2022 editions, with the best score of 39.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Meanwhile, the most-awaited blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. They will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.
India will be aiming to win their first T20 WC title since they won the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 2007 in South Africa. In the last edition held in Australia in 2022, India lost to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.
India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj

Usman Khawaja Backs Glenn Maxwell for T20 World Cup Impact Despite IPL Form
Despite Glenn Maxwell’s recent struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja is confident in Maxwell’s ability to shine in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Khawaja believes Maxwell’s form in the IPL is irrelevant when it comes to his performance for the national team.
IPL Form Doesn’t Matter
In a conversation with the West Australian, Khawaja emphasized Maxwell’s proven track record: “The IPL form is absolutely irrelevant. Maxy’s proven himself time and time again. Any player who’s performed over a long period understands that you can’t perform well every time you go out there.”
Khawaja pointed out that T20 cricket, especially for middle-order batsmen, is challenging and that Maxwell just needs one good innings to regain his confidence: “If he gets one good innings, he’s away. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past. He’s not going to change his game and nor should he. Just keep going. He’ll find it.”
Maxwell’s IPL Performance
Maxwell had a tough IPL season, averaging only 5.77 from nine innings and scoring just 52 runs in 10 matches. His team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, was eliminated by the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, with Maxwell scoring a duck in that crucial game.
Players on a Break
Currently, Maxwell is on a break along with Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green after the grueling IPL schedule. These players are set to join the national team for the T20 World Cup.
Australian Team Preparations
In preparation for the T20 World Cup, the Australian team had to improvise during a warm-up match against Namibia due to the absence of key players. Selection chief George Bailey and fielding coach Andre Borovec stepped in to help, along with batting coach Brad Hodge and head coach Andrew McDonald.
Despite these challenges, the Australian team, the 2021 T20 World Cup champions, showcased their strength by chasing down Namibia’s total of 119/9 with 10 overs remaining, thanks to a quickfire half-century from David Warner (54*).
Upcoming Matches
Australia’s next warm-up match is against the West Indies on May 31. The team will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 6 against Oman, followed by matches against archrivals England on June 9, Namibia on June 12, and Scotland to finish the group stage.

#IPLVenues Shortlisted: Punjab CM endorses to include Mohali cricket stadium Complete Preparations are in force for the upcoming season of IPL 2021. Among these, some of the venues for the Indian Premier League are shortlisted as potential venues. Although, the final call is pending by BCCI. During this tentative venue list utterings, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh expressed surprise. According to the decision of BCCI, Mohali is not included in the list of venues. Punjab Chief Minister urged the BCCI to include Mohali cricket stadium in the List.
The potential venues for IPL 2021 are #Ahmedabad, #Delhi, #Kolkata, Bengaluru and #Chennai. Soon BCCI will seize the decision. This year, the decisions are more on the basis of COVID-19 cases. Thus, an assurance from Amarinder Singh came about all necessary arrangements for the safety of players. The Punjab CM tweeted- "I am surprised at the exclusion of Mohali Cricket stadium for the upcoming #IPLSeason. I urge and appeal to @BCCI and @IPL to reconsider their decision. There is no reason why Mohali can't host IPL and out government will make all necessary arrangements for safety against #Covid19".
Punjab Kings, before known as Kings Xl Punjab, consider Punjab Cricket Stadium (PCA) at Mohali as their home ground.
Amidst Corona period, Mumbai is one of the cities with spike rates in COVID cases. Therefore, IPL games will not be held in Mumbai though the city was considered during discussion.
The cities with low corona case's rates are being considered for IPL stadiums. Corona is going down drastically. It would be possible that the home venues allow spectators to visit IPL games, unlike IPL 2020 that was held in UAE with no visitors thus, empty stadiums.

Week 9 IPL Postponed under rising Covid Cases.
Introduction
After our mid semester break ,I feel a bit more comfortable about our subject. Before our semester break we were given a brief to come up with a campaign. This week in our group we did brainstorming of ideas. How we would communicate our message to the target audience and what tools of PR we would use.
IPL has been under light for the last 4-6 weeks and I would be analyzing the final postponed of IPL 2021.

Public Relations Activity
IPL 2021 was a campaign with a lot of uncertainties .When India was under the black cloud of rising Covid numbers , IPL and BCCI made the call for the tournament to still go ahead as schedule. Government of India commented IPL is a good way for people of India to have a light of hope under these dark times. As the weeks processed in the IPL and the number of cases surged , there was a high level of anxiety among players , coaches, and the team. It was fascinating to see the tournament still go ahead when the whole country was in tatters. Finally, the inevitable happened when some groundmen, players and a coach has tested positive in bio bubble were confirmed and IPL along with BCCI decide to postpone the cash rich tournament.
Campaign Leaders
IPL which is governed by BCCI is the major campaign leader.

PR tools used.
Since the beginning of the tournament, it has been a major point of discussion. Digital media and social media has been the major PR tools used for the campaign. IPL has been a headline in all the world sports news. All the international players have been actively following the IPL through social media channels such as Facebook , twitter and tik tok.
How did I find out about the Campaign?
Before the postponed of the tournament IPL has been in news and the point of discussion in almost all our news channels. I personally found out about this news while driving to work and listening to SEN sports radio.
Critical Reflection
It was just the matter of time when IPL would finally make this call to postpone the tournament. It was remarkable to see ,even the tournament to start and so many international players and coaches be a part of the tournament. It was a news worldwide and a lot of players in the latter part of the tournament started to feel unsafe and few of them quit the season mid-way due to Covid scare. I believe it was the best decision taken and IPL had no choice then to postpone the season. IPL 2021 had worldwide media coverage and gave the campaign to cancel the season a lot of hype.
