Happy New Year from WWC, Updates, aka weâre alive! (12/31/22)
Hi lovely followers,
First of all, thanks so much for your patience and all your continued support for WritingWithColor. 2022 has been heavily, heartily, devoted to tending to our personal lives, from pressing demands at work, school, mental health, family matters, and so on. All the while, trying to dig through the long backlog of Q's.
2023 should show us some more devotion to WWC. We'll answer more questions, invite fresh mods in the team to balance the load, and last (but not least) get the new Writingwithcolor.org up and running! Your kind donations have gone towards the new blog in progress and will continue to support it. Once thatâs all established and stabilized, weâll look into meeting our other fun goals, such as:
Diverse writing advice e-publications.
Follower giveaways and bonus content.
Charity and community causes.
See support the mods page to donate or learn more
We have made some major strides behind the scenes, though.Â
Progress made in 2022
Here's some progress made so far.
1. Writingwithcolor.org, as mentioned, is a thing! Its also been around for a while. It won't forever lead to tumblr, but to our new site, when it's complete. But as long as Tumblr is around and working for us, we'll keep some sort of link between them, so no need for you to fully switch to a new platform to see our content. (Note: you can use that URL to share WWC on other social media. Facebook has blocked all Tumblr URLs, as is.)
2. Major clean-up in the tags, improvements to search. You'll notice both consolidation and separation of some tags. For example, you can search the tags for "Black stereotypes" or even "Black women stereotypes" whereas before they were separated out, which created a less concise search.Â
Updated tags and improvements:
X + stereotypes (e.g. Jewish stereotypes, Jewish women stereotypes, etc.)
X + tropes (e.g. Black tropes, Black men tropes, etc.)
X + names (e.g. Indian names, Korean names, etc.)
Colonialism, was colonization
Exotification, was exotic
Fetishization, was fetish
Othering, was other
Microaggressions, was micro-aggressions (the "-â breaks search)
lgbtqia, was lgbtqa+ and lgbtqia+ (the â+â breaks search)
interracial + romance, friendship, relationships, marriage, adoption (it used to all be nestled under "interracialâ)
Many more, with some changes ongoing. Check the navigation
What to expect in 2023
   1. Blog askbox re-opening. We haven't determined a exact date yet, but it will be early 2023. | Early 2023
   2. New askbox. Along with re-opening the askbox, we will have a new means for you to submit your questions. | Early 2023
   Our new askbox will:
Streamline the process by organizing the Q's for us (Previously, theyâve been manually screened and organized by Colette with the help of others...oo wee)Â
Allow us to respond to questions faster.
Help guide askers through the process to better ensure ask is meeting guidelines, making it more likely to be answered.
   3. New blog launch! Individually hosted and paid for by donation funds from you all! | Spring 2023
   4. Continued blog improvement and cleanup (i.e. tag improvement, outdated post updating or deletion, fixed broken links) | Ongoing, 2023
Again, thanks so much for your support and just enjoying the blog. If youâd like to reply to this post to boost your favorite inclusive books or media of 2022, feel free.
See ya in 2023!
Sincerely,
~Mod Colette and the WWC Team

Things that are true at the same time
1) Romantic relationships are presented as the be all and end all of human relatonships, especially to women.
2) Given how other animals pair up, there is probably also a biological drive to find a mate.
3) Humans have proven time and time again that they will risk anything to have a chance at a romantic relationship, including external violence (for interracial relationships, homosexual relationships, relationships outside of marriage, any other relationship not approved of by family or the state) or internal violence (thousands of women are killed by their current or former husbands or boyfriends each year).
4) However, it is entirely possible for a human to have a fulfilling life without a romantic partner, and plenty of people have done so--women are at their happiest in their mid 80s, which is after the life expectancy of men.
5) Danger due to external violence and internal violence is not the same.
6) There is no social pressure to specifically be in a homosexual relationship while plenty exists specifically for a heterosexual relationship.
7) Opposite-sex-attracted women will often be shamed for their choice in relationships but itâs not to do with their opposite sex attraction.
8) Same-sex-attracted women will often be shamed specifically for their same sex attraction.
9)Â Even though OSA women are often shamed for having sex with men that people in their lives disapprove of, they are also shamed for not having sex with men, and lesbian women are shamed for not wanting to have sex with men at all.
10) When the risk is of external violence, it is the society that must change to accept relationships that are not inherently harmful (homosexual, interracial, etc.).
11) When the risk is of internal violence, the options are limited: A. have high standards and watch for red flags and hope you get lucky, or B. just donât date.
12) Telling people to just not date regardless of the reason is not likely to be listened to.
13) That doesnât mean it should never be said.
14) A small group of people on the internet telling you not to date someone with whom thereâs a risk of internal violence is not the same as being threatened with external violence if you date someone.
15) The external societal pressure on women to date men far exceeds any âpressureâ in radfem circles not to do so.
16) Telling you not to get a pet bear isnât the same as telling you not to get a pet cat or dog. The latter might make it more difficult to find a place to rent (external). The former will literally be the one to destroy your home (internal).
17) Using misogynistic language isnât cool, no matter whoâs saying it to whom.
18) Itâs also not nearly as commonly used in radblr as people are saying.
19) It doesnât excuse homophobia or more misogyny as a response.
20) It is okay to take a break from this site sometimes. A lot of people here who are at odds would have a perfectly civil and productive discussion in person (not everyone, but a lot). Please take a walk outside, and put what you see here into context. No one on this website has any control of your life decisions.
Full disclosure: I am a heterosexual woman, I had sex with a man over the winter holidays. He is very likely the last man I will have any such relations with, but I trust him with my life and I will continue to have a handful of such encounters with him each year unless I feel I canât trust him or he wants to stop. Nothing I read on radblr is going to change that. I had sex with him on Thanksgiving weekend too. And on the week I took off in the summer. Iâll probably have sex with him some time this spring. What radblr has done is validated my not feeling safe dating anymore men after my rape several years ago. My standards have raised considerably and I feel no shame for having them. I accept that I may never find a romantic life partner or have any children but realize a fulfilling life is still possible.
Take radblr as a balancing act: liberal men tell you to have sex with lots of men (and some women too as long as the men can watch) and that youâre a prude if you donât, conservative men tell you to have sex with one man only and that youâre a slut if you have sex with more than one. Both tell you itâs wrong not to have sex with men at all (even nuns are called brides of Christ). Radblr simply says, hey, whether itâs one or itâs many, men are dangerous and itâs safer to not have anything to do with them. Difference is women in radblr have no power, external or internal, to enforce what they think you should do. Men do, both external and internal, and they use it frequently.
You can have sex with men if you want to have sex with men! You can date men and hope to find your unicorn, I hope you do too! But itâs no bad thing to hear, in what is a small space on the internet, âHey, consider not doing this risky thingâ in a sea of âDo this risky thing this way or elseâ and âNo, do this risky thing this way or elseâ. Itâs okay. Itâs literally okay to be told âWe donât think you should do thisâ and still do it. And if the day comes where you donât want to anymore, at least you know you have a--again--small place where people wonât shame you for that decision.

As someone in an interracial relationship, I fucking hate seeing most posts about them on this site. Because they're usual made by some liberal who saw people using "fetishism"/"cultural appropriation" incorrectly and assumed the issue was people of color being wary of interracial relationships and not the way people strip words of their meaning for (often times) petty internet drama.
And like every one of those posts are absolutely FILLED with white people giving their unnecessary ass opinions like "ugh not everything is racism" well sometimes it fucking IS and sometimes it takes more than just saying "I love you for YOU and I won't be racist, I prommy!" Sometimes you have to work to prove you care and that you will PERSONALLY work to unlearn the racist shit you were taught BY YOUR OWN CULTURE for someone you allegedly care about. AND THAT IS CONSTANT WORK. There is no point where you are no longer racist and when it comes to interracial relationships between poc (namely a Black/nonblack couple) sometimes you're gonna have to do your own goddamned research and come back later to talk about it.
And with the history of white/nonblack people regularly using Black bodies and relationships with Black people as a form of rebellion against their families/cultures (which is objectifying btw!) Black people in particular have every right to be wary of interracial relationships. Antiblackness is so pervasive we have to play a constant game of "Am I a fetish/teacher/object of rebellion?" with every person we date for fear that the person we chose to open up to doesn't actually see us as a person.
Like if you think people are using terms incorrectly-which I will not deny because some people ARE- then just fucking say that but these posts that make is seem like the reservations poc have when observing/being in interracial relationships is unfounded paranoia are fucking racist. And the white people fueling this shit are racist as well. It's not your fucking place to try and explain what is or isn't racism to us. Shut the fuck up FOR ONCE!
#Kia's post#Kia's og posts#yes you can reblog this but I'm not debating idiots#also yes all of this applies to me and my gf btw#the beginning of our relationship was ROCKY for multiple reasons but we worked SO fucking hard and I trust her and her family IMMENSELY#because THEY also started having those uncomfortable convos#so like this is not me on my high horse#this is me observing people who are putting in the fucking work

From Tumblr to Gawker, the sites and voices that defined the 2010s are gone or changed. There is no happy ending to this story.
The millennial internet first died in 2015.
I remember the day exactly because I was one of seven staffers, in addition to many more permalancers, at Gawker Media who were laid off as part of a company-wide restructuring. I received a message on Slack, was asked to join a meeting in a nearby conference room, told that today, November 17, was my last day working for Gawker, and by the time I returned to my desk all of my accounts were disabled. For the company to âoptimize and sharpen all the sites going forward,â executive editor John Cook explained in a memoâsites that also included Jezebel, Deadspin, Lifehacker, and Gizmodoââshifting personnelâ was necessary.
In truth, Iâd lasted much longer than I ever expected to. In my 18 months as a senior editor, I commissioned more than 150 stories and published young writers like Vann Newkirk II, P. E. Moskowitz, Donovan X. Ramsey, and Josie Duffy. When people ask me what it was like to work at Gawker, notorious for its sometimes unrealistic traffic demands on staffers, my answer is always the same: âI had no road map. I threw things at the wall to see what stuck.â
My directive was to help expand the voice of the site, so I intentionally cast a wide net. I tasked writersâpeople like me who never once considered that their work could be published on Gawkerâto report on topics ranging from the rise of suburban poverty and the shady business of secondary policing to workplace racism, gentrification, interracial dating, and the joys of eating ass.
Gawker, like every other media company trying to survive this next internet evolution, was chasing virality. Good stories mattered, but numbers mattered just as much. The popularity of the stories I commissioned was never an exact science. Some did exceedingly well for obvious reasonsââTinder Is Full of Robot Prostitutesâ (198,000 visitors); âWhat Serial Gets Wrongâ (296,000); âWhy I Pee Sitting Downâ (110,000)âwhile other stories bombed for reasons I still canât make sense of.
But there was no sense to be made of the moment we found ourselves in. The internet was undergoing a rare metamorphosis. Facebook, Twitter, and the introduction of social media had completely reengineered business models. Everything, as Nicholas Carr has suggested about the pinballing effect of social media, was being uprooted. âRadically biased toward space and against time, social media is inherently destabilizing,â he wrote in 2018. âWhat it teaches us, through its whirlwind of fleeting messages, is that nothing lasts. Everything is disposable. Novelty rules.â
BuzzFeed knew a thing or two about novelty. It was also trying to understand how to seize the attention of a mass audience. Unlike Gawker or HuffPost, BuzzFeed took a much more wholesale approach to gaming traffic. Steered by CEO Jonah Peretti, it implemented a medley of quizzes, Twitter recaps, listicles, news stories, and long-form investigations as its bread and butter. For a time, BuzzFeed was the apex of internet production. Remember the dress? Elsewhere, sites like The Awl and The Hairpin platformed newbie writersâLauren Michele Jackson, Vinson Cunningham, Bryan Washingtonâwith a renegade interest in pop culture. Before I had the great fortune of working with him at Gawker, I obsessively read Tom Scoccaâs weather reviews with a mix of anticipation and private glee.
The second time the millennial internet died, when The Awl shut its doors for good on January 31, 2018, I remember thinking how Scocca had captured the sentiment of the millennial web and the era it birthed perfectly: âEvery fugitive bit of light might be the last one.â Because thatâs how it felt to create, work, and waste time on the internet of the 2010s. It was one big secret that all of us were in on, having fun as we remade digital media in a way that felt true to us, never knowing if tomorrow the light we illuminated with the stories we blogged would be the last.
I was able to make a home and a career on the internet because sites like Grantland, Okayplayer, and Jezebel gave me license as a writer and thinker. They validated my weirdness as much as they challenged my ways of thinking around gender politics, movies, sports, and identity. Stumbling on responses by Greg Tate in the Okayplayer message boards was its own masterclass in music and political theory. Before that, blogs like Crunk & Disorderly, The Cynical Ones, and FreeDarko showed me how sweeping this territory we called the internet was. They were proof that a single voice could take up space in a unique and original tone.
My internet, the millennial internet, was a province of play and possibility. Of course, itâs mostly all gone now. The trend toward consolidation is near complete. There is no happy ending to this story. Journalists, editors, and media makers of all sorts are losing jobs. This year seemed especially cruel to those of us who make a living in this fickle industry. Independent media is a dwindling business model, a fate ominously true for niche publications with an outsiderâs eye.
The millennial internet died, perhaps for the final time, in April, when BuzzFeed News closed shop. A week later, Trafficâa book by former editor-in-chief Ben Smith, about the mad dash to reinvent digital media during this specific periodâwas published to enthusiastic reviews, its release bookmarking the end to a decade colored by omnivorous virality. By late fall, Vice downsized, Okayplayer fired its entire editorial staff, pivoting to god knows what, and Jezebel, the pioneering feminist site, was forced to shut down. (It was acquired by Paste in late November, saving it from an early death.) According to a recent employment analysis, the news media sector lost more jobs this year than it did across 2022 and 2021 combined.
The 2010s serendipitously coincided with the mainstreaming of social media. Tumblr, Twitter, and Vine broadened the reach of communication, amplifying a generation of voices that otherwise would have gone unheard. These platforms were the engine of creativity before everything was pimped out and recast as sponsored content. Thatâs all changed. This year, Tumblr announced plans to significantly curb its operations. Under the ownership of Elon Musk, Twitter, rebranded as X, has decayed into a petri dish of misinformation and harassment, inciting an exodus from the platform. As for Vine, which discontinued in 2017, TikTok has taken its place though it hasnât quite replicated its hypnotic charm.
Youâre probably wondering how we got here. How all of this happened. Donât. Itâs a foolâs errand in a time of spectacular fools, crooks, and private equity monsters. My internet is dying. Itâs been dying for some time. Everything I knew about it will soon vanish, its histories regurgitated via 30-second TikTok videos shared in group chats, eulogized annually in the cocoon of darkened movie theaters, where tickets run $30.
The contours of the digital era are receding. So much of what I loved is gone or changed, its parts sold for scraps. Why and how it had to be like this, I will never know. Greed and mismanagement seem too cheap an answer even though I know it is one of them.
What is also true is how new technologies jockey to replace old ones. Itâs how the game works. Radio killed newspapers. TV killed radio. The internet killed them all. Thatâs how the narrative goes, anyway. Today, as text-based tech fades into the hipster denim of the 2010s, video and audio reign dominant. That is, until itâs time to pivot to the next shiny thing. We like what we like until weâre told to like something new.
Gawker shut down, for the second time, in February. When it happened, I was reminded of what John Cook wrote in his memo the day I got let go. Gawker was pivoting to politics with a mandate to âhump the campaignâ (LOL). The plan failed, but not because of the writers and editors who stayed, or managementâs course correction (though that was also a doomed enterprise). Hilary Clinton lost the election. Donald Trump won. Reality blurred into vulgar theater. Theater so vulgar and unbelievable weâre still reeling from it.
Before it was shot dead, in 2016, Gawker failed the way most digital media properties of the millennial internet failed: by trying to fathom, and build a business model around, something that is unfathomableâthe way the internet works. Nick Denton, Gawkerâs muckraking founder, couldnât hack it. Neither could Jonah Peretti. In truth, no one can. Today I find solace in that atom of unpredictability. Itâs the one lesson Iâve carried with me since that day.
None of us have it figured out. We never will. Onward.

Among all the other issues with online discourse, one thing I don't get is...what's the point? Who benefits from this? When Twitter bands together to call adults "groomers" for dating slightly younger adults, what's supposed to happen? Every couple in the world with an age difference breaks up and thanks the tweeters for their insight and gives them medals that say "Wokest Twitter Crackpot"?
Or this insanity that I saw on another site a while back: "Interracial dating is inherently racist! You're saying that your own race isn't good enough!" What's the goal here? Every interracial couple breaks up? People stop mingling with other races? The U.S. makes interracial marriage illegal again? Is that what they want?
Even on the rare occasion that they're halfway reasonable, all this infighting goes nowhere. One argument becomes a feeding frenzy with thousands of comments that spiral into incomprehensible rabbit holes, and when it's over, nothing's changed except your "friends" have screenshotted everything you said to use it against you later.
I guess some of them think that they're going to enlighten people, but that doesn't happen either. What an exhausting way to use social media.

Can we Guess which of your SOâs Qualities you Love the Most.
I love the beauty and sweetness of having fresh flowers in the house. Strangely enough, beauty experts have also recommended people to use other kinds of vegetables to become part of their beauty regimen, not just the typically common cucumber slice (put over one's closed eyelids to refresh it). × ×˘×¨×ת ××××× 10 sex.co.il âYouâd be surprised how many people donât give genuine compliments because theyâre afraid of rejection,â Masini says. Well, whatever and however you enjoy nature's bounty, we're sure you can guess what each of these fruits and veggies are, even if we give you one single line as clue. Kale was even promoted as a "superfood," and it's now being converted to different kinds of food items as well, like kale chips. Not simply to do well in school, though that counted for something, but to design beautiful rockets, or to write well, or to understand how to program computers. Debenhams came out with a body type guide for their customers who are unsure of their body shapes, and the shapes are based on not just the typical fruits -- the apple and pear being the two most identified female body shapes -- but they also used other fruits and vegetables as well?
It is well worth persevering - just make the first move. The biggest dating rumour surrounding Jin was with comedienne Lee Gook Joo, especially after Jin thanked her in the first 3 BTS album notes. Then one day, I felt complete for the first time in my life. So it's not surprise so many people turn to online dating sites like OkCupid and Match or apps like Tinder and Bumble in their quest to find "the one", especially when there's a super specific quality or type they're looking for. 2017. The peach tree is also easy to grow for some people who have big yards, so those garden-picked fruits may not be contributing to this official statistic, but it could actually be pushed up if they consider fruit consumption that's not store-bought. While most people think that the phrase is "We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto," the actual line is just a little different. Simba takes the lessons a little lightly, and can't wait to rule and own everything.
2: Although it takes a little extra time to set up these themes due to so many available functions, itâs still faster and cheaper than hiring a developer. But those that never left the spotlight are still there, of course, enjoying their immense popularity without working up a sweat, so to speak. What are some books you'd recommend for the heartbroken? Just remember everything. What are the actual words? Writing a heartwarming concluding line or paragraph is all about filling it with affirmations and words of hope that can help fade the distance between you and your special someone. The most commonly used edible mushrooms are button mushrooms, but there's also oyster, shiitake, enoki, and of course the Portobello, which chefs love to prepare in special gourmet ways. And, per People magazine, Cabello and her boyfriend of more than a year broke up just a few days later. In the trailer for Mendes' Netflix documentary "In Wonder," the singer says "everything" is about Cabello. Mendes went on the podcast "Smallzy's Celebrity Small Talk" at the beginning of October and shared that he spent three months quarantining with Cabello and her family in Miami. They created the song somewhat spontaneously after they encountered each other again backstage during Taylor Swift's 1989 tour - Mendes was the opening act and Cabello was a special guest. On July 4, 2019, Mendes and Cabello were spotted holding hands in West Hollywood, per ET Canada.
Reports the two had broken up circulated over the summer, but Mendes and Cabello put them to rest in a few recent interviews detailing what they've been doing amid the coronavirus pandemic. If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Cape Girardeau, Missouri
A man is driving alone at night when his radio breaks up. A big black pickup truck suddenly hits the car from behind and chases it for a bit, then disappears as the radio clears up. The truck suddenly reappears, heading straight for him. The driver turns around and the truck chases him, hitting him and wrecking the car. The truck stops by the wreck, then leaves.
The brothers are heading for Pennsylvania when Dean gets a call from an old friend. Her father died the previous night. Cassie was an old friend of Dean's. Sam is surprised and upset that Dean told her what they do. Cassie and her father's friend Jimmy work for the paper and are meeting the mayor about her father's death and another black man's death. The mayor is unhelpful. Cassie says there was only one set of tracks at each site and no signs of a collision. Cassie's mother arrives and is upset. That night, the same black truck kills Jimmy.
The Winchesters look into the accident the next day and Mayor Todd is still unhelpful. He says Cassie's mother can explain why he isn't racist. Later, the brothers meet a friend of Jimmy's. They say they're insurance investigators and ask about the black truck. One of the workers knows about a truck involved in the death of a black men in the 60s and says the townsfolk are bigoted. Dean thinks the truck is a ghost connected t the Robinsons. Sam says Dean and Cassie should sort out their unfinished business. Sam thinks Cassie dumped Dean after he told her their secret.
That night, Dean and Cassie argue and have sex.
The next morning, Mayor Todd is in a field checking plans when a black truck pulls up. He runs and it runs him over. Cassie and Dean talk about how Dean's history scared her and she pushed him away. Dean makes excuses, but she stops him. Then they hear about Todd's murder. He was killed on the Dorian family property, who owned the newspaper. One Dorian, Cyrus, disappeared 40 years ago. Todd had the house bulldozed and the first murder took place the next day.
That night, Cassie is at home when the lights flicker and a black truck appears outside. She closes the shutters, but the truck keeps coming. She calls Dean, but the truck has gone by the time the boys arrive.
Dean thinks the driver wants to scare them. They confront Mrs. Robinson. She says her husband Martin knew who the truck belonged to - Cyrus Dorian. She says he died, and Dean notices. She dated Cyrus and was seeing Martin secretly because of their interracial relationship. She broke up with Cyrus and he was angry. Black men started going missing. The night before she and Martin were to be married, someone set fire to the town's church, killing a children's choir that had been practising inside. Cyrus kidnapped Martin and beat him with a bat. Martin escaped and killed Cyrus. He and two friends buried Cyrus and his truck in a swamp. She says Todd was a deputy then and covered it up.
That night, Sam and Dean are outside the Robinson home. They think Cyrus's spirit was asleep in the swamp until Todd's renovation plan woke him up. They must find the body in the swamp. They pull up the truck and burn the corpse. But then the black truck appears across the field. Their plan has failed.
Dean thinks the fire didn't destroy Cyrus's spirit in the truck. He drives off to lure the truck away and tells Sam to burn the original truck. Sam figures out something and calls Cassie while they chase the truck. Dean is close to the black truck. Sam calls him to tell him where he is. He tells Dean to go to a specific spot on a road and stop. Dean stops and turns the car around. The truck appears at the end of the road. The truck speeds towards Dean, but shatters and vanishes. Dean is at the church that Cyrus burned down. Sam figured the ghost whould destroy itself if it crossed hallowed ground.
Later, Cassie and Dean say goodbye. Cassie isn't sure they'll meet again, but Dean is sure they'll be together. Back on the road, Sam asks if Dean has ever thought about giving up. Dean just smiles.
