I feel this so much - *insert wowwww crying gif* (ὀ⌓ὀ⑅)
#Repost from @sensiblyyou I was thinking back on how I used to caption my photos. If I had a photo with family or friends that I wanted to share, but you could see my body, I would make sure to mention somewhere in the caption how “I lost ___ pounds this week”. When I wanted to share something, I cooked or a nice meal from a restaurant I would say how “I’ve been good all week on my diet, so I’m treating myself tonight!” ⠀ Sometimes those captions were true, but not always. It was a form of protection. I wanted to share photos like everyone else, but I knew that as a fat person there would be a higher chance for someone to shame me simply because of my body. I knew that most people would be kinder to be if I hid behind the guise of weight loss and dieting – and they were. ⠀ This might sound ridiculous to someone who was never bullied for their size or weight, but the truth is people are more willing to treat a person with dignity, respect, and kindness if they are under the impression that person is trying to change their body. ⠀ It’s almost as if being treated with dignity and respect is a reward for fat people if they start a diet or lose weight. Nobody should have to hide behind diets and weight loss just to be treated as a human. It breaks my heart knowing that there are people who do what I did, when all they want to do is just enjoy their life and social media like anyone else. Let’s normalize being kind and respectful. ⠀ To be honest, sometimes it can feel really scary to upload a photo of our body or meal without any type of justification behind it, especially if you have received comments in the past about your body, but it’s scarier to give people that power in the first place. ⠀ https://www.instagram.com/p/CGu8W_bgHLm/?igshid=1nw0msmcx6p2v
