Memento Mori Pt 3. (Michael Langdon x Fem!Death!Reader)
You reached the courtyard of Kineros Robotics in record time, Michael hot at your heels.
“Can you walk a little slower?“ Michael complained, walking quickly beside you to keep up despite his long legs. You weren't lying when you had told him that you were on the clock.
„No can do, kiddo. Now come on, use those wonderful legs of yours,“ you threw at him over your shoulder, your hands searching for the car keys you had stashed in one of the conveniently hidden pockets of your dress without slowing down. Why weren't those a thing yet when humanity had invented every other type of useless thingamabob and yet pockets on a dress were blasphemous, you wondered. The intricacies of humankind often evaded you. The fingers of your right hand grazed the keys in your pocket and with a satisfied smirk you pulled them out.
“I'm not a kid, you know. I'm the Anti-,“ Michael began, irritated.
„The Antichrist, yes and you were born exactly when, 2012? You may not look it Michael, but in the grand scheme of things you're barely an amoeba,“ you interrupted him, not in the mood for any more temper tantrums. Without having to look back at his face, you felt the anger rolling off him in waves. He really was not used to being treated as anything less than the son of Satan. If he wanted you to lick his shoes, he was sorely mistaken. If anything, he should be on his knees before you, praising the universe for having sent you in his hour of need.
Continuing to ignore a seething Michael, your eyes zoned in on your newest toy. A 1965 Black Ford Mustang Convertible with bright red leather seats. Seeing as you were all things considered an ancient being and material things meant positively nothing to you, you did have two weaknesses. Fast food and fast cars. You liked to think that it was due to the human form you took, your immense power being pressed into the confines of a limited body and your patient nature being expressed in a rather paradoxical instant gratification. Thankfully, you couldn't gain any weight nor die in a car crash, remaining ever the same, and so you chose to indulge yourself at every given opportunity. Soon enough, those fleeting pleasures would come to an end. Might as well enjoy it while you could.
You skipped over the curb to the driver's side, admiring the way the inky paint coat glistened in the late afternoon sun, not a speck of dust in sight.
Michael came to stand by the passenger door, now more confused than angry. He was ever-changing, you mused.
“Did, did you sell your soul to my father too?” he asked, mustering the convertible before his eyes searched your face.
“No, Michael,” you chuckled amused. H really didn't know the first thing about the Apocalypse or his place in all of this. Maybe there would be time to give the boy a lesson, but not until you had had a good meal.
“I think I'm out of your dad's league if we're being honest. I am more a collector of souls myself. Your father or God don't actually hold the monopoly even though that's what they like to tell everyone. Tell you what, over dinner you and I will take a little trip down memory lane,” you explained, watching him with intent.
“Liar,” Michael said lowly, processing your words. His icy blue eyes narrowed at you. You could feel his power trying to claw at you, yet it felt distinctly like a kitten lick.
“Oh please, Michael, I don't lie,” you retorted unaffected, your hand grabbing the door handle and sliding into the seat, grabbing the pair of sunglasses on the dashboard and putting them on before looking at Michael, your fingers drumming on the steering wheel. This was not going nearly as well as you had planned and if you wanted to keep the plan you had set in motion rolling, you would undoubtedly need to change course, despite the fact that you loathed having to do so. Death be damned, you thought.
“I don't like repeating myself, Michael. I don't owe you any answers but perhaps I'm growing soft and the fact that you are left to your own devices, trying to figure out the single most monumental task on this rock hurtling through space has me feeling a little...sympathetic,” you stated, leaning over to push open the passenger door as a sign of goodwill.
“Tell you what, you can ask me all the questions you like, deal?”
Michael contemplated for a few seconds. He didn't like to admit it but so far he hadn't been the one to come up with any good plans that didn't involve The Omen 3 plot and his father had been absent throughout his accent so far. He didn't trust you or anybody bar Ms. Mead and yet you presented an enigma to him, one he needed to crack open. He was brilliant at problem-solving and he would solve you too, he thought to himself, a little grin creeping into the corner of his mouth. His invisible claws retracted.
“Deal. But I get to ask as many as I want,” he replied, pulling the door open all the way and plopping himself into the passenger seat beside you, arms crossed over his broad chest.
“Fine, a deal's a deal,” you groaned only halfheartedly, shooting him a grin of your own as you fired up the engine and pulled out onto the road. You really did have your work cut out for you. Lucky for Michael, he was so easy on the eyes that you didn't mind as much as you should have. You pressed the 'on' button of the radio and stifled a laugh at the song that had just started playing:
I see the bad moon a-rising I see trouble on the way I see earthquakes and lightnin' I see bad times today
Don't go around tonight Well it's bound to take your life There's a bad moon on the rise
°°° 20 Minutes later, you pulled into a parking lot, turned off the engine, hopping out of the car, and came around to Michael's side to take an unneeded but deep breath, filling your lungs with crisp evening air and the distinct smell of desert. The sun had just begun to set, a slight chill setting in and the last remaining rays illuminated Michael's blond hair in a way that reminded you an awful lot of his father before the fall. You let your gaze wander over his sitting form for a second, before lightly slapping the arm he had draped over the side of the car, lost in his own thoughts.
“Come on, Angel, we're here,“ you chided playfully, knowing it would rile the blonde man up unnecessarily. On cue, Michael's gaze shot up to meet your own, nostrils flaring at the more than holy pet name.
“Don't call me that! I'm anything but that!“ he bit out but couldn't keep the blush from creeping up his neck. He didn't like the way you made him feel. Weak and unsure of himself. No power he had encountered could match his, not even Cordelia's and then you came along. As if he wasn't already feeling insecure enough, even after having massacred the witches and warlocks, you only added to the sense that he hadn't yet achieved what he was meant to do, or be where his father expected him to be. Sensing his unease, you tussled his locks with your left hand, pulling him out of his self-induced reverie.
“There is nothing a good cake can't fix, Michael. Trust me,” you smiled at him, hoping he would pull himself together and get out the car. At the word cake, he did perk up, finally glancing behind you to look at where you had taken him.
“The Cheesecake Factory, really?” he looked up at you quizzically, disbelieving. If you were in fact Death, and he wasn't yet sure you weren't lying to him despite your overpowering aura, shouldn't you be dining in some high-class restaurant on the other end of town where they didn't even have prices on the menu?
“Are you food shaming me?” you retorted, one eyebrow shooting up.
“Err, no. It just doesn't...suit you,” Michael replied, his right hand coming to massage the back of his neck, embarrassment evident at his remark.
“Wouldn't you like to know what does and doesn't suit me. If you must know, it's kind of my thing. Don't ask me why but I just can't keep my hands off sweet things,” you explained, winking at him and only adding to his embarrassment. Before the Antichrist could slide any further down your passenger seat and be swallowed whole by the ground, you opened his door and gestured for him to get out.
“Relax. You clearly don't know how to take a joke. Come on, I can smell the cakes from here.” You turned on your heels, cape dress swishing behind you as you made your way across the parking lot to the entry. You weren't quite sure your words were meant as a joke but that was a heart-to-heart you'd have with yourself later. The only sweet thing on your mind right now was cake and soda. The slam of the car door indicated that Michael had managed to detach himself from the red leather interior and he jogged up beside you, matching your stride.
“I hope you're hungry. I'm paying,” you said, smiling with glee and making Michael chuckle. Another thing to add to your slowly growing list of likes about the spawn of Satan, you noted to your dismay.
°°° You placed the fork neatly back onto the now empty plate, devoid of even the smallest crumb, that had held an entire ultimate red velvet cake, groaning blissfully. Eyes closed, you swallowed down the last bite. Opposite you, Michael had stopped eating his pasta dish some time ago. When you had said that there is nothing a cake couldn't fix, you had meant an entire cake after all. The hunger you felt whenever you were in a human body was not easily satiated. Something that Michael or the waiter were clearly not prepared for. Both had been watching you for the last 5 minutes, jaws slack, as piece after piece traveled on the fork and into your mouth.
“That was positively delicious,” you hummed, casting a glance at Michael, fork suspended in mid-air.
“W-would you like anything else, Miss?” the waiter stuttered, taking your plate and admiring it as if it were a rare antiquity.
“Oh no, I think I've been quite naughty enough, don't you think?” you giggled, reaching for the Fanta and taking a large sip.
“Michael, you've hardly touched your food,” you noted, your voice rousing the young man out the trance your display of gluttony had placed him under. He cleared his throat, putting the fork down, adjusting his seat on the table.
“I'm not hungry anymore.”
“Oh, ok, well in that case we'd like the bill please,” you addressed the waiter with a satisfied grin, gulping down the last remnant of orange soda in your glass.
“Hey, you said you'd answer my questions! I knew you were a liar!” Michael intercepted, trying his best to keep his voice down.
“ I don't lie, Michael. You chose to watch me enjoy some cake instead of asking questions, didn't you?” you countered, your elbows coming to rest on the table, fingers intertwining. His anger and frustration bubbled to the surface once again. If he weren't the Antichrist, you were sure he would have a heart attack by the time he hit 30. His body tensed at your statement of truth, eyes squinting menacingly at you. Yet you were right, he had been so busy watching you, he had forgotten all about the myriad of questions buzzing in his mind like moths around a flame. His eyes fluttered shut briefly, gulping down the rage that threatened to burst out his chest. You watched as the blonde man tried to gain back his composure, your finger coming to run along the rim of the empty glass in front of you.
“Michael,” you demanded. His eyes opened to meet your own and you could see his restraint hanging by a thread in them. He did have a temper and you didn't want him setting fire to your favourite restaurant just yet.
“I'm in a good mood tonight. Instead of just answering your questions, I would like to show you something that will answer almost all of them. A deal is a deal,” you tried to reason. Michael mulled your words over in his head, sizing you up while doing so.
“Oh for goodness sake, Michael! I'm not trying to manipulate you. I'm trying to help you!” you exclaimed, exasperated at his hesitance and mistrust. While you knew his beginnings on this earth weren't exactly peppered in love, warmth and trust, you couldn't afford him seeing you as the enemy. Neither could he.
“If you don't believe me, take a peek. Make it last, this will be a one-off,” you encouraged him, an invisible finger beckoning him closer and allowing him limited access to your mind momentarily. Michael's mind pushed through your doors, grazing, flitting over millennia of memories before you let him look at your core.
No lies, Michael, you see?
You eased him out and sealed the doors shut tightly once again, leaning back in your chair, the restaurant coming back into focus.
“Here's your bill, Miss. Thank you for stopping by at the Cheesecake Factory tonight,” the waiter had brought you the bill. Wordlessly, you handed him a 100$ bill, nodding your head briefly at him to suggest that he could keep the change and waited for Michael's response.
“Ok,” Michael finally replied, rolling his head on his shoulders, resulting in a gratuitous cracking sound. You weren't sure if he was entirely satisfied with your show of goodwill. Not that it mattered.
“Let's take a walk,” you suggested, getting up without even the slightest hint of a stomach after decimating an entire cake. Michael's eyes never left you and the enigma you were to him just became a lot more enticing. A boyish smirk crossed his face as he stood up to walk in front of you. At the exit, he held open the door.
“My, my Michael. Didn't take you for a gentleman,” you chuckled, gracefully pushing past him and into the cool night air.
“My Ms. Mead would expect nothing less of me,” he offered, not bothering to hide his Cheshire cat smile. You had allowed him access to your mind and the things he saw, he desperately wanted to see again. You were like a box of confectioneries to him. For once in his life, his pride and ever-growing sense of entitlement took the backseat. He felt like he had finally met someone of his own caliber and the feeling was exhilarating to him. You weren't his father but you were the next best thing and best of all, right in front of him.

Turmoil in Tampa
“The most important relationship a head coach has on his team is with the QB. He’s the one who runs the show on the field; he’s the ultimate extension of his coach. If there isn’t a high level of mutual trust between them, both coach and QB will be doomed.”-Bruce Arians- The self proclaimed QB Whisperer
What we are witnessing in Tampa is nothing short of a disaster. Bruce Arians has continually thrown Tom Brady under the bus with taking zero accountability (which he has been known to preach on). Seems as though Arians has been trying to get out in front of all this to make excuses to keep his job. News flash, your offensive scheme blows. There has never been an NFL offense that has had the “no risk it- no biscuit” & won a Super Bowl. The chucking & slinging the ball all over the field has never & will never work. Bruce Arians has been historic in his teams interceptions. In 1998 Peyton Manning threw league & career high 28 picks with the next 2 seasons at 15 a piece. He goes to Cleveland & his QB throws 21, 22, 18 picks. Takes over in Pittsburg in 07 with 14, 15, 14, 9, 15 even with Tomlin wanting a run first offense, Arians allowed for Big Ben to be sacked an astonishing 215 times in just 5 years. Which is an issue in Tampa in itself with there being so much interior rush pressure he can’t step into his throws. News flash if you want to throw deep you have to have protection or use play action. Brady is has been hit the 5th most in the league. Back to the topic in 2012 gets Andrew Luck (the best prospect since Manning) throws 18 picks 1 behind league leader Drew Brees also gets Luck sacked 41 times. Goes to Arizona 22 picks 41 sacks, 12 picks 28 sacks, 13 picks 25 sacks, 17 picks 40 sacks, 18 picks 52 sacks. Bruce then goes to Tampa where his QB throws a historic 30 picks against 47 sacks. The down the field attack DOES NOT WORK.
PLAY ACTION
Play action allows time for the QB to get extra protection by freezing the linebackers and gives the safety’s something extra to think about, allowing the receivers to find open spaces & take those shots down the field. Seems to me when they go play action Brady is able to find the open guy down field between Godwin & Gronk.
MOTION
Everyone & their mom knows you use pre snap motion to be able to determine if the coverage is man or zone. The Bucs lead the league in the lowest usage of pre snap motion. Arians has put Brady on blast for not reading the coverage correctly, hey Bruce it makes it a little easier if you use motion so your QB can get you in the right play. Arians has also said we make our reads after the snap of the ball. What? What kind of offense operates like that. Tom Brady has made his career by knowing what the defense is in and making calls to put his team in the best spots & mythically marching the ball down the field knowing where he is going with the ball before the ball is even snapped.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO AS A COACH
The thing that separates a good coach from a great coach is the ability to use their roster to its strength. The Patriots operated in a way that allowed for Brady to make presnap calls with routes, line protection, audibles all at Bradys will. With Arians its break the huddle and snap the ball. Literally. There is no looking at the defense making line calls from Brady or Jensen, audibles, hots, nothing. Why have one of the smartest players to ever play the game not use his best asset; his brain. Over the 20 years Tom was in New England I never saw him glaze over his wristband as long as he has to after the huddle breaks. That is a sign that Tom is not comfortable with the play call or he knows it won’t work. Arians & Byron Leftwich calling these plays has to have him thinking “why am I letting this paint drinker & former scrub QB call these plays”.
THERE IS NO SCHEME
There is no game plan each week. It’s the same offensive sets, same route concepts, same predictable play calling. Receivers just running around, not being able to read coverage. Every week I watch this team on offense I see the same plays & a massive inability to adjust during the game. Live & die by no risk it- no biscuit. It is gut wrenching football to watch with all that talent the Bucs have.
WHAT TOM NEEDS TO DO
During this bye week for the Bucs he needs to walk into Arians offense telling him to put down the booze & kit kats & tell him we need to run the offense that we ran in New England. After all why would you bring in Tom Brady and tell him “hey scrap what has made you the greatest of all time and try this”. When Manning went to Denver he walked in the coaches office & told them we are running the Tom Moore offense & guess what, it worked. Why would you ask a 43 year old QB to throw in 50 yards down the field once out of every 3 plays. Doesn’t seem like a good formula.
DEFENSE
In 4 of the 5 loses the Bucs have had have been because they have played soft zone & only rushed 3 or 4 guys. Hey heres a great idea, lets sit back in soft zone against Drew Brees, Jared Goff & Nick Foles. Oh here is an even better idea, lets guard Tyreek Hill 1 on 1 with no safety help. I wonder if after they first quarter of that Chiefs game Arians wondered hmmm maybe we should double Hill & Kelce after 7 catches for 203 yards 2 TDs IN ONE QUARTER for Hill alone.
Everything is out of sync for the Bucs, offense, defense, coaching, it’s all the more evidence how much football is culture, coaching & executing.
TOM HAS PART OF THE BLAME
Shame on Tom for thinking he could make this work. To go down to Tampa where Arians has a reputation & offensive scheme that makes no sense. Shame on Tom for being so oblivious to the fact that he would be getting into an offense that is called by Byron Leftwich. Toms arm strength is still good, he still has a lot of velocity on the ball & still throws a tight spiral but the timing with his receivers & communication is very off. Mike Evans looks like he only knows how to run straight. He has no awareness on how to read a defense, get to the hot spot and sit in the correct spot; the guy just can’t figure out what he is supposed to run unless he is running a go. Gronk should have stayed retired, tho he has looked better than at the beginning of the year. The running backs are HORRIBLE. Tom has always had someone to come out of the backfield that can catch little flats, swings, screens, Texas routes etc. It’s pretty clear why no one wanted Fournette, RJ2 is so hit or miss but can’t catch passes either. The Bucs receivers & backs lead the league in drops. Tom has put the ball into tight windows all year, sometimes it comes down to being able to haul in those passes when you have tight 1 on 1 coverage. Toms glazed over look during these games I completely believe is because he knows this offense will not work unless he is the one running it how he wants to run it & unless Arians sobers up & realizes that then Tom will be trying to get Josh McDaniels down there to take over as the next head coach.
Tom Brady is #1 in the NFL in On Target Throws, Air Yards, Air Yards per play, & 2nd in Completed Air Yards. Tom Brady is playing at a high level but they don’t have everything together. They need to take the bye week, have a come to Jesus meeting & decide what they are going to be on offense & who is going to call the shots. I 100% believe if Tom runs the offense the Bucs can win a playoff game or 2. How they are looking now they are almost a sure lock for a first round exit.

Low Cost Home Improvements That Add Value and Sell Your House Quicker
Whether you are thinking of selling your home or just wanting to improve it, when money is so tight, it is a good idea to spend wisely to hopefully increase the value of your home. Improving the right areas of your home makes it more attractive to prospective buyers and saves you making costly mistakes. Even though you are on a budget you first need to look at other similar homes in your area to see 'the competition'. With a critical eye, work out where you house falls short of the competition. If it helps, ask a friend, one who will be honest with you, so they can give an independent opinion.
You should have a list of what your competition has and what areas around the house your home needs to make improvement. Now it's time to take action.
Before you even get the DIY tools out... de clutter. Time spent here can be your biggest and best home improvement investment.
When people buy a house they are wanting to see light and airy properties, they are buying space, so give them space. Tidy up, throw things away you don't use, and store what's left properly.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/433e8ba13d52b32532349d4a8ab4cbd9/805ea06cf9ba2b84-d0/s500x750/255decadcc1a0deb25de9bd5167cde319b722844.jpg)
Nothing puts viewers off more, than a mess. Don't just take my word for it. An ING Direct survey (Aug 2012) found that 41% of prospective buyers would put in a lower offer, if the house they were viewing had untidy kids bedrooms. What you want to do is show off each room to its best and you can't do this if there's too much clutter everywhere. They want to see how the property's space can work for them, with their own stuff. If they see it not working for you, ie not enough living space and not enough storage space, then it will be a turn off.
First Impressions First impressions count, so you should consider the 'curb appeal of your property. It might seem 'corny but adding hanging baskets or even window boxes improves the appearance of a house and gives the impression of it being cared for.
Hall & Living Room Consider how people view a property. The Hall and Living room are usually what people see first, so these rooms should be welcoming and create a good impression. Some simple home interior decorating can make the hall feel inviting, light and bright. Add pictures and an interesting mirror to reflect some light.
Worn out seating? You don't need to buy new ones you just need to recover the old ones, or use throws in neutral colors with color statemented cushions which all goes to improve the look for a lounge. Check the storage in a living room. If the kids use it as a play room then make sure there's a storage box to keep everything tidy when they aren't there. Put some sets of shelves up, perhaps in an alcove area.
Kitchen & Bathroom The other most looked at rooms are the kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen food is prepared and perhaps a place for entertaining so it should be giving the impression of being clean. The bathroom should have a relaxing feel and give the impression that you would be happy to unwind there in a relaxing bath.
When viewings take place people want to see at least a standard well maintained bathroom suite, so replace any discolored bathroom fittings like a toilet bowl.
Landscaping Where there is a garden but it's either unkept or paved, consider some landscaping. It doesn't need to be over the top and you don't need to spend a fortune at the garden center, but just bring it up to the standard of what would be considered the norm for the area.
Decor OK so you've seen all the property makeover shows where they make neutral coloured interiors. It's for a reason. Outdated or highly personal décor can put buyers off, so get rid of the purple walls, please. The ING Direct survey found that 1 in 6 buyers would be put off by 'clashing' color schemes.
Standard of maintenance If there's something that needs fixing, then get it fixed. You might have lived with it, but what will buyers think? I'll tell you, they will probably think "Oh look this is broken, cracked or flaky paint, what else is unkept or badly maintained?" If there's a list of things that need doing and you don't get them fixed, then at best expect offers to come in lower than you had hoped, or at worst expect far fewer offers and longer for them to be made. People want to move in straight away and perhaps make their own mark by painting a wall purple but at least they know everywhere is clean and well kept and it only needs a lick of paint to make it their home.

1:72 SAAB OAS 41 'Víðarr'; aircraft "23 Grey" of Skaraborgs Flygflottilj F 7, Swedish Air Force; Satenäs AB, 2014 (Whif/kit conversion) by dizzyfugu https://flic.kr/p/pAFA59 +++ DISCLAIMER +++ Nothing you see here is real, even though the conversion or the presented background story might be based historical facts. BEWARE! Some background: The Víðarr (or Vidar, "Wide ruler", a Nordic god among the Æsir associated with vengeance) or officially SAAB OAS 41 is Sweden's first manned aircraft with stealth technology, and the first aircraft of its kind in Europe in operational service. "OAS" is an abbreviation of the aircraft's primary tactical roles: "Osynlig Attack Spaning", "Unseen attack and reconnaissance missions". Much of the OAS 41's technology and elements were developed and tested on unmanned vehicles, namely SAAB's SHARC and FILUR demonstrators. SHARC (Swedish Highly Advanced Research Configuration) was an experimental unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) built by Saab AB. Since the late 90-ies SAAB had been carrying out preliminary studies about several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) concepts but not taking them into flying demonstrators. In 2001 it was decided to start the SHARC Technology Demonstrator (SHARC TD) project. Because of a limited budget and good in-house experiences from flight tests of instrumented sub-scale aircraft, it was decided that the SHARC TD should be in 1:4 scale of the original SHARC design. One of the major goals of the project was to test the airworthiness process for a military UAV or aircraft of similar layout, and this could well be achieved even with sub scaled aircraft. Even the goal of testing a lean development process for demonstrators could be achieved in that way. The SHARC TD project was initiated in 2001 with first flight less than one year later, on February 11th 2002, with the basic version. The more advanced version made its maiden flight on April 9th 2003, less than two years after project start. In September 2003 the SHARC flew a number of missions out of visual range, ranging around 20 km from the control station location. In January 2004 the effort towards the development of the ATOL functionalities was initiated, and led to a successful flight test campaign in August 2004, during which fully autonomous mission were demonstrated, from standstill to standstill. The SHARC system was composed by two flying demonstrators (BS-001 and -002), a GCS and some GSE for engine start and cooling air supply on ground. The SHARC TD is a 60 kg jet-engine driven aircraft. The airframe was manufactured in light-weight composite materials; the airframe weighed only 8 kg (without landing gear). The payload consisted of a forward looking colour video camera. The avionic system (hardware and software) was designed and manufactured by SAAB and is based on Flight Test Instrumentation system COMET 15 used in the Gripen and Viggen fighter a/c. Before the decision to develop an in house avionic system, a market survey was conduced, but no existing system had been fulfilling specifications. Electro-optic fibres, or “fly-by-light”, were used to the actuators in order to minimize the risk for Electro Magnetic Interference. Saab and FMV’s technology demonstrator program FILUR made its first flight in 2006. FILUR’s main objective was to show the tactical importance of stealth technology applied on aerial vehicles, to gain experience and to set a foundation for stealth requirements for future aerial systems and air-surveillance systems. The focus with the FILUR program was on low signature, for both radar and IR-signature. “Static measurements of radar cross section (RCS) made late 2004 showed really good performance and corresponded with calculated data. In flight measurements of stealth performance will be done as a next step”, said Jan Boström FILUR Project Manager, Saab Aerosystems. The technology developed in FILUR would be used for future Saab systems, being UAVs or manned aircraft, which became the OAS 41 which had been under development since 2004. The SAAB OAS 41 made its maiden flight in 2012, and in early 2014 a pre-production batch of five aircraft has been assigned to Skaraborgs Flygflottilj ("Skaraborg Air Force Wing") F 7 in Satenäs, where the aircraft are operated alongside JAS 39 Gripen multi-purpose fighters for evaluation and integration. Conceptually the OAS 41 is very similar to the much earlier US-American F-117, dedicated to ground attacks with precision weapons, attacks against coastal/sea targets and reconnaissance missions. All ordnance or equipment is carried internally in a large bay which is covered by sliding doors. Typical weapons include up to three Rb 75 (AGM-65 Maverick) missiles, two GBU-12 laser-guided smart bombs or two AGM 119 "Penguin" anti-ship missiles. Iron or cluster bombs as well as pods with unguided missiles are also an option. Beyond that, the aircraft can also carry air-to-air missiles like the actice radar RB 99 (AIM-129 AMRAAM) or the IR-guided Rb 74 (AIM-9L Sidewinder), up to four of each. The OAS 41 does not feature an internal gun, even though up to two podded Mauser BK 27 cannons can be carried internally. Overall, its range of weapons is highly identical to what the JAS 39 Gripen can deploy. Alternatively to offensive loads, the OAS 41 can carry camera of sensor pallets in its belly, making it highly adaptable. It is uncertain how many aircraft wil actually be built, since the Swedish Air Force officially announced that the OAS 41 is not to replace its JAS 39 fleet, rather complement it or take over exclusive missions due to its stealth features. The type's limited performance will probably confine to a limited scope of missions, and with the running cost reductions it is not expected that more than 30 OAS 41's will ever leave the production line for the Swedish Air Force, unless it would be exported and follow in the Gripen's footsteps, but this remains doubtful. General characteristics: Crew: 1 Length: 6.70 m (21 ft 11 in) Wingspan: 18,29 m (59 ft 11 in) Height: 3,96 m (13 ft) Wing area: ~68 m² (729 ft²) Empty weight: 6.739 kg (14.844 lb) Internal fuel: 2.500 l Max. takeoff weight: 13.600 kg (29,760 lb) Powerplant: 2× Svenska Flygmotor RM13S turbofans (General Electric CF34-3S), with 4.150 each Performance: Maximum speed: 692 mph (1.115 km/h) at height Cruise speed: Mach 0.7 Landing speed: 210 km/h Range: 4.828 km (3.000 mi) with internal fuel Service ceiling: 13.381 m (43.830 ft) Rate of climb: 60 m/s (11.811 ft/min) Armament: Up to 3.000 kg of ordnance, all carried in a ventral bomb bay, including air-to-ground and air-to-air missile, smart and iron bombs, gun and rocket pods, ECM equipment and pallets with cameras and sensors for reconnaissance missions. The kit and its assembly: This stealth aircraft is basically a scale-o-rama project: it is a Dragon B-2 bomber in 1:200 scale turned into a 1:72 scale aircraft. What sounds easy is more complex than it appears: you need a cockpit with a proper canopy, the landing gear has to be adjusted and there are many small details that need attention. For the cockpit installation I decided to implant a complete X-32 section from a Revell kit, it replaces the complete B-2 spine. It appears a bit bulgy, but upon close inspection of the potential internal layout I found that you can either have a flush canopy OR a bomb bay. Since I wanted to keep the latter (and enlarged it), the cockpit went a bit higher. As a result, the original X-32 canopy looked much to bulbous, it was way too high. Searching through the spares pile I eventually turned up an old F-18B canopy, which, reversed and cut into shape, could be transplanted onto the X-32's cockpit frame, even tough some sculpting at the rear was necessary. Since the F-18 canopy had some glue stains I had to sand and polish it, and as a final coat I decided to apply some light brown translucent paint. Fit is not 100%, though, but it looks good now. The high cockpit necessitated some visual counter-balance at the rear. Originally I had hoped to keep the OAS 41 fin-free, but I eventually dug out a pair of F-117 fins that were cut down in length and glued to the airframe, slightly canted outwards. The landing gear is all new. The massive front strut comes from a F-117, the wheel from the X-32. The front well was enlarged, as good as possible, but it is still too short... don't lokk there closely. ;) The main landing gear struts were taken from the X-32, while the wheels come from the F-117. The wells were lengthened at the rear, so that the longer legs find enough space. The B-2's original bomb bay was cut out and replaced by a completely scratched interior that allows the carriage of a pair of laser-guided bombs, which come from the scrap box. The exhaust slits were modified, too. They were made wider, and inside a kind of ramps were added - the original 1:200 B-2 has nothing inside. For the same reason I also added light blocks, pieces of dark grey foamed plastic, inside of the air intakes and the exhausts. Finally, at the aircraft's front, some pitots were added, but that's all since the overall hull was to remain clean. Painting and markings: I originally had the plan to make this a Japanese aircraft, but then I decided to make it a (kind of) tribute to the innovative Swedish aircraft industry - the SAAB OAS was born, and it was to carry an appropriate, if not odd, paint scheme. Even though "Fields & Meadows", made popular by the Saab 37 Viggen, was an option, I did not want to copy that style. But an angular scheme appeared logical as to confuse the aircraft contours. The splinter paint scheme I eventually settled upon was vaguely inspired by Norwegian "Skjold" class coastal patrol ships, which have stealthy hulls and carry a three-colored spinter scheme in grey, sand and dark brown. Odd for a ship, one might say, but in front of the typical Norwegian rocky coastline, it is highly effective, and even on the open sea, viewed from above, it is not a bad scheme at all. The pattern was vaguely lent from the Skjold boats, and I used different tones which would IMHO be more versatile: a reddish brown (WWII French Earth Brown), Field Grey and Olive Drab, in a wraparound scheme. Together with the edgy shape of the aircraft this turned out to be pretty effective - a bit of a surprise! The rest was rather straightforward: white for the air intakes and the landing gear, the cockpit and the bomb bay were painted in Neutral Grey. The pair of internal GBU-12s was painted in light grey, a typical tone for such weapons in Swedish use witn the JAS 39 Gripen. The kit received a light black ink washing and some panel painting with lighter shades of the basic tone, just to amphasize contours and simulate some structure and acccess panels esp. in the engine area. After decal application (puzzled together, among others, from an Italeri JAS 39 Gripen) the kit was sealed with Revell's matt acrylic varnish. In the end, a rather simple whif - I am not a friend of stealth aircraft, since they are IMHO boring. The splinter scheme changes this a bit, and the high cockpit does not look that bad at all, even though the original X-32 canopy looked REALLY weird.

PRESENTED BY CLASSIC CARS CONNECT! 1965 Ford Mustang (TX) - $21,500 Location: Dallas TX 75201
Please call Patrick at 702 291 8117 to see the car.
For serious, cash buyers - for sale is an outstanding 1965 Ford Mustang. I've owned it around 7 years now, and since the resto work I've put around 1,500-2,000 miles on it. I purchased it as a project car from someone in Boise, ID. It had been sitting for 2+ years, so it was in much worse condition than I had hoped. That lead me to restore almost everything mechanical / electrical on the car in 2012/13. I thought I'd do it myself, but because of time constraints, I shipped it to a reputable shop that had experience with classics & had them do A LOT of work on it. They are ASE-certified master techs, and complete gear-heads. I trust & have experienced that they did great work. This mustang always turns heads, sounds mean, & is fast. I have NEVER drag-raced it, not even on the street against another car. I just cruise around in it. :-)
This is no show queen, but it is about 90% restored & a lot is like-new. Here's the gist: It could use (but not mandatory) some minor interior work + minor dash cluster work (2-3 gauges need to be replaced), and if you really wanted to go the extra mile, some minor body work. Everything else is almost new. It'll make a great classic for another owner.
I will disclose everything I know about this vehicle & it's condition. It has undergone extensive work. It is in great mechanical order & drives great, but realize it is a classic car. As such, I cannot warranty the vehicle. It is being sold as-is. That said, I'm an open book & want you to get your money's worth. Ask me questions. Come see the car.
Specs: V-8 289 block bored .30 over. Performance carb / intake / heads / headers / exhaust / ignition. 3-speed original (overhauled) transmission. Bullet-proof. Pony (repro) interior, parchment. Front disk, rear drum brakes. Power brake booster aftermarket install. 3-point shoulder harness seat belts in front. Only premium gas + full synthetic oil used.
List of work done by reputable auto shop (I have receipts): 289 Engine COMPLETELY newly built (essentially a custom crate motor) ground-up by reputable shop / ASE-certified master tech: 289 block machined, inspected, bored .30 over. New aluminum high performance heads. Machined crankshaft. New mid-level performance cam. New pistons / rings / rockers / rollers / bearings / connecting rods / gaskets. Painted block & oil pan. Edelbrock performance intake. QFT 600cfm 4-barrel carb. Ford black air filter / valve covers. High-performance spark plugs & custom wires. Pertronix electronic ignition system. New water pump. Custom fuel lines. Rebuilt starter. Ceramic Tri-Y headers. Flowmaster 40's stainless steel dual exhaust w/x-pipe. 3-speed Ford Manual Transmission rebuild. New clutch. New 3-row radiator & hoses. New overflow reservoir. New battery. Complete PAINLESS wiring harness installation. New voltage regulator. Aftermarket brake-booster installation. New front brake pads / rear shoes. Machine rear brake drums & install new hardware. Machine front brake rotors. Overhauled front brake calipers (very difficult to find!) New shocks all around. New rear leaf springs. Service rear differential. New rear axle bearings, grease / pack. New gas tank + filler neck + gas cap + sending unit. New fuel filter. 2 new front tires to match rear. New headlight switch. New parking brake handle & adjustment (works, needs adjustment). New rear seat belts. New front seat belts - 3-point aftermarket shoulder harnesses. New interior LED light bulbs - original white colors. New side-view mirror. New fuel gauge. New fan shroud. New dash cover (dash underneath is in perfect condition!)
There are a few minor things that need work, but nothing a little TLC wouldn't help. Contact me for more details.
This is a great classic, and has a really nice paint scheme. It sounds great & is fun to drive. I've done extensive work to it! I'm embarrassed to even say how much $$$ & time went into this car. PLEASE - NO LOW-BALLERS. If you don't have cash in the bank, don't waste our time. I am not in a rush to sell it. I don't have time to drive it & would like to buy another project car eventually when my time frees up. I'll do my best to get back to your questions.
Check out videos: https://youtu.be/yAFeRhy4Mas https://youtu.be/utoUiS-VDow
Please call Patrick at the number listed above to ask questions, see the car, or to make a purchase!

As we all adjust to a new normal and begin ushering in a new age of post-pandemic design, it’s best to turn to the experts. We wanted to hear directly from inspiring home designers about ways to adjust your space during this time. So we spoke with Kate Watson-Smyth, a renowned home designer and bestselling author who heads Mad About The House, for some essential design insight.
Q: What are some ways you’re staying sane right now while staying at home?
A: Well in many ways things haven’t changed that much for me as I have always been at home writing, so I’m probably reasonably well placed for a lockdown. That said, I wouldn’t normally have two teenage boys and a husband at home all the time either. I have finally stopped watching the news all the time – even for a trained news journalist that became too much – and I make sure I get dressed and put makeup on every day. If I didn’t do that then, for me at least, it would be a short slide to staying in pyjamas and bed till lunchtime or beyond. I wish I could say that regular exercise was keeping me sane but sadly I can’t seem to find the motivation to do any!
Q: How can people arrange or design their homes to accommodate staying in for long periods of time?
A: Firstly, you need to work out what you need from your space and remember that it won’t be like that forever. So, if you need to move the coffee table to make room for a YouTube exercise class, or for the kids to build a giant fort from cardboard boxes then do it. Or if you need to make a proper homeworking spot then do that. If at all possible move the sofa so you can put a table next to the window – you might have more room if the coffee table has already gone!
The next really important thing is that you need to be able to make a distinction between the working day and the relaxing evening. Use some of the time you would normally have spent commuting to put the work stuff away – laptop in a drawer, paperwork in a box that can slide under the table or be tucked away at the end of the sofa. Changing your clothes is an effective way to change the mood and then spend the rest of your “commute” having a cocktail or a cold, iced drink to really switch from work to home. We have made a real ritual of this with a tray of drinks, a bowl of (usually tinned) olives and a crisp or seven. We are definitely all eating too many crisps. If you have small kids then they can watch tv while you have your cocktail hour. That way everyone gets a break from everyone else and you can reconvene for dinner.
In the morning take the work stuff out of that box and arrange it on the table with your favourite mug and even a vase of flowers to make your desk environment feel proper rather than makeshift.
Research has also shown that surrounding yourself with family pictures or souvenirs that bring back happy memories is key to being happy yourself so include some of those objects on your new desk.
If at all possible avoid working from the sofa or the bed or they will become bound up in work vibes and it will be difficult to relax in the evening.
Q: What lasting changes from the pandemic do you think we will see in home design? What do you see for the future of design?
A: I think it’s clear that employers will have to accept that working from home is doable, practical and doesn’t have a negative impact on productivity. It’s also possible that people will run screaming back to the offices and refuse to work from home ever again! Joking aside, I think we will finally see a rise in well-designed, beautiful office furniture that looks as happy at home as it does at work. For example, at the moment office chairs are ergonomic and ugly and the best way to get round that is to reupholster one in the fabric of your choice. We might see more dining tables with cable management built-in and desks that can double up as dressing tables. Multi-functional furniture will be key – our homes are already multi-functional; the furniture needs to catch up.
Multi-functional furniture will be key – our homes are already multi-functional; the furniture needs to catch up.
Q: On your blog, you said your philosophy is, “Your home should tell your story. It should make your heart sing when you open the front door.” What story will our homes tell now?
A: Now at the time of writing I suspect a story of chaos and mess as people adjust to having everyone at home at the same time and in for the whole day rather than coming and going. In the future, perhaps new home design will involve more natural light either via skylights or internal windows. As the homes probably won’t get bigger, our lifestyles will have to adapt to living in multi-functional spaces – perhaps we will finally start buying less and buying better. I wonder if open-plan living will fall out of fashion; it’s fine when you want to keep an eye on small kids, but when you have more people living and working in the same space you yearn for walls to divide areas up and mean that one can work while another listens to music.
Q: Can you tell us more about how people can achieve that visual story?
A: If we are going to be spending more time in our homes then we need to get the décor right and that means working out what we like and what our personal style is. When it comes to colours always ask yourself how certain shades make you feel and decide if that is the right feeling for the room you are looking to decorate. Vintage always adds character to a room and creates a more bespoke and individual look. But you can also paint cheap pieces of furniture to create something that’s uniquely yours. In my new book. Mad About The House, 101 Interior Design Answers (Pavilion £20) I say that before you start any scheme you should ask yourself six questions: who, what, when, where, why and how? Who is doing what where and when? Why do you want to redo this room? How are you going to pay for it? The answers for a couple with a kid will be very different from a couple of twentysomethings or a pair of pensioners. Work these things out before you go near a paint chip and you will already have some idea of what you are trying to achieve.

Q: What are some tips for balancing functionality and beauty? What pieces can you think of that blend the two?
A: In an ideal world, if we look back to William Morris then everything we have should be both beautiful and useful. To quote another truism, beauty is also in the eye of the beholder so everyone’s idea of that will vary. It’s up to you to work out what function you require from your sofa so that you can buy the right one for you. One person may want a large lounging modular piece where they can stretch out on and watch films while another wants something more upright for conversation and cocktails.
But there are a few pieces that are universal – a console table with drawers can double up as a desk and a dressing table – put the laptop in the drawer at night and take the mirror out. A bookshelf works for both books and displaying happy memories in the form of photos or objects. A coffee table is good for family games and resting your drinks on. A stool can be both side table and extra seating. The Saarinen Tulip table is both a beautiful dining table and a great place to work. The Wegner wishbone chair is comfortable enough for dinner and for wrestling with spreadsheets.
Q: Which two adjectives would you use to describe your interior style now? Have those changed from the two adjectives you’d have chosen when you started out?
A: I always used to describe my style as urban glamour, I’m not sure I’ve strayed too far from that although perhaps now it might be a bit more vintage elegance.

Sportsman Drag Racers Make the Straight Line Spotlight
Garage B Project!
The state of Minnesota is home to the remarkable 1969 Chevy Nova SS owned by John and Lynn Helmin. The husband and wife duo are campaigning the car to help keep alive the memory of its previous owner, Rickey Grundhoefer, who passed away in 2015. The ’69 Nova, which has only 7,500 original miles, is still streetworthy and features the original interior. John employs a 540ci big-block rated at 875 hp and a Powerglide transmission to run the Nova in the 9.7-second zone at 138+ mph when unchained for bracket racing. John’s main focus, however, is within the NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Super Street 10.90 class, but has also campaigned it in Super Gas 9.90 competition. The meticulously maintained Garage B Racing race car is the end result of big-time, behind-the-scenes support from associates that include Helmin’s own landscaping company, Brickshop Dyno, Ronnie’s Garage, POJO’s Auto Body, Mike’s Engine Repair, Authority Service, Common Wealth Real Estate, Office Furniture Solutions, and Trager General Contracting. John’s crew chief is his daughter Danielle Heileson; his crew also includes son Jeremy and daughter Amber Hutton.
A Wily Veteran Racer
At an impressive 80 years young, Oceanside, California’s Don Ruble Sr., continues to follow his passion. Don (affectionately nicknamed Rebel) is reportedly the second oldest active and licensed NHRA drag racer, behind only the legendary Chris “The Greek” Karamesines. He began dabbling in the sport of drag racing at a very young age and impressively made it to the final round of the 1966 U.S. Nationals in Modified Eliminator with a Chevy Bel Air. Don now races a nicely prepped 1967 Chevy Nova. Despite his Nova tipping the scales at 2,840 pounds, he has chosen to mix it up with all the dragsters in NHRA’s tough Super Comp 8.90 index class. That is his primary focus because his car is capable of 8.7-second e.t.’s when raced “unchecked.” After acquiring the Nova back in 2012, he undertook a major rebuild from front to back and top to bottom. The engine program consists of a 540ci mill that relies on a Powerglide transmission and 5.57:1 rearend gears to get the power to the pavement. Don continues to do all of his own maintenance but is thankful for the ongoing support he receives from Monty Woodard at Machine Tech (Oceanside, California).
Down Under Dedication
Colin Boyd’s 1966 Chevelle is another perfect example of how popular it is in Australia to drag race vintage Chevrolet muscle cars. Based out of Kurrajong Hills, New South Wales, Colin imported his race car (an original, factory SS car still with VIN tag) from the USA after buying it as a roller from Jeremy Melton and Steve Milam (Amarillo, Texas). After the acquisition, Colin evolved the Chevelle into a full chassis racer and debuted it in 2014 at his home track: Sydney Dragway. The engine program was imported, too—built by California-based Mike Lewis Racing Engines. The bullet is a short-deck 582ci big-block Chevy that made over 1,000 hp during dyno testing, but has since had nitrous added for an additional 200 hp to play with. The team runs the car within Australia’s equivalent to Top Sportsman class racing. The 3,140-pound machine has a best e.t. of 8.16 at 165 mph. Colin’s family oriented team includes his son John Boyd (crew chief) and his dad, Brian, as well as close mate Craig Armstong. Colin’s effort is mainly self-funded by his company, Arundel Park Auto Electrics, but also receives support from Flat Out Services and Craig’s Automatics, and dedicates its racing ventures to fallen crew member Ted Clarke, who passed in early 2017.
Showstopping Super Gasser
Carl and Toni Root are NHRA Sportsman racers that certainly get the attention they deserve. For the past five seasons or so, the husband and wife team—who call Washington, Illinois, home—have been fan favorites while campaigning a truly impressive, jewel-quality 1963 Chevy Nova in Super Gas. This car is the end result of a conversion that was originally purchased by Carl back when he was 16 years old. Featuring a remarkable paint scheme (of Carl’s own expertise), this Nova features a Suncoast-produced body and a Tommy Harter chassis. Using a 588ci big-block assembled by Rick Bowman and a Coan transmission and converter, this race car is known for running as good as it looks. That includes numerous Top 10 finishes in NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional points, an event win at the Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, and two career NHRA Jegs Allstars event appearances. The car was wired by Mitch Truman and relies on a Racepak computer for the all-important engine vitals.

The Winnipeg-based artist makes multi-media work at the intersection of film, poetry, politics, and architecture.
by Mónica Savirón | 19 MAR 2019
Rhayne Vermette; courtesy of the artist. Punchers, burins, blade knives, and guillotine splicers invade Rhayne Vermette’s working space. Born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba, and residing in Winnipeg, for this self-taught artist, collage, photography, and film are the tools that demolish the house of rhetoric. Inspired by architects who infused a reinterpretation of building with wood, glass, and stone, Vermette questions methodological foundations and surroundings—in her case, to make the towers fall. What once was defined as path and pillar do not govern the artist or her work. She breaks down structures that mirror the dysfunctional models and causalities of closed structures. Her schemes and patterns are not affixed or in service to a system. Instead, she shows what is beneath the logic of
make-sense
enunciations, and their own relational dynamics. By deconstructing edifices of rules, meaning takes its power back. Scratches, flares, glue, and tape are the weapons of the artist’s anti-language.Highly laborious and musical, Rhayne Vermette’s works are moving fragments of a whole that transform themselves both poetically and politically. A female character in a film (
Take My Word
, 2012) will continue evolving in another a year later (
Full of Fire
). Each image is a composition of movable motifs that respond and react in disregard to categorical, self-contained conventions. The artist choreographs shifts and alterations in what had been previously built up as truth or context, stratification and alienation. In one of her first films,
Tricks are for Kiddo
(2012), multiple little pieces of 16mm found footage gets overlapped in varying densities and taped to clear leader into different positions. An animation results from reshooting the collage on an optical printer while running the film at constant speed. Scenes that were not meant to convene are assembled together over the flying carpet of the celluloid strip, unmatched juxtapositions in the stream of consciousness.
Tricks are for Kiddo
, by Rhayne Vermette; courtesy of the artist. 2012, 2 minutes, HD from 16mm, color, sound,The concept of rebuilding from what is broken or left out also resides behind Vermette’s
Black Rectangle
(2013), a film that relates to Kazimir Malevich’s painting
Black Square
(1913). The Kiev-born artist adopted the cracked, non-representational, geometric form as a “refuge” for the cultural and social revolts that would lead to the October Revolution. Both protecting and hiding, in Vermette’s film black rectangular sections adhered to transparent celluloid act as barricades or curtains. The placement of each element within the frame is marked by the white spacing that surrounds or cuts them, as in 19th century French poet Stéphane Mallarmé’s theory of
espacement
between words on a page (
Poem. A Throw of the Dice Never Will Abolish Chance
, 1914). Thanks to these delimitations, clusters of similar materials manage to show their own singularities. A closer visual connection comes from Marcel Broodthaers's interpretation in 1969 of Mallarmé’s poem, a translation in graphic forms: black blocks substitute the words, their width stretching in relation to the original type size. In
Black Rectangle
, the obstructing shapes take over the optical track field of the 16mm frame, and create an ominous, seemingly destructive, popping and cracking sound when they travel through the gate of the film projector. Ideas of place and absence translate into visual and audible breaks in the action through rhythmic repetition or silence, an idea developed in Jacques Derrida’s chapter
Différance
(
Margins of Philosophy
, 1972): “An interval must separate the present from what it is not in order for the present to be itself, but this interval that constitutes it as present must, by the same token, divide the present in and of itself... this interval is what might be called
spacing
, the becoming-space of time or the becoming-time of space.” Vermette’s body of work pushes this theory towards a feminist perspective: what matters is not the story that gets repeated as believable, but who is allowed to talk and what their silences speak to.

Black Rectangle
, by Rhayne Vermette; courtesy of the artist. 2013, 2 minutes, HD from 16mm, color, sound. Indexes of power, the quick images’ shallow depth is brought into the open in Vermette’s work by aggregating layers, both in space and in improbability. The shards of celluloid she brings together from inside the frame or the sprocket hole area, and the sequential cuts, being sharp or dissolved, shed light on materiality and memory. Similarly, the sounds mixed from different sources and at equal volume levels interfere intelligibility. Vermette’s web of sounds mirrors the frustration and aggressivity that take place in communication. Wavering from high to low, and from left to right, sounds have the effect of implacable, movable wind around obelisks of Babelian misunderstanding. By shifting hierarchy among sounds, Vermette may baffle expectations of inattentive listening. A different approach to perceiving sound allows for the creation of new expressions and, therefore, new ways of thinking. Existentially and syntactically, tacit subordinations (“the way things are”) have no part in the calligraphy and cartography of the artist’s work. Constructions are, ideologically and formally, torn down—the beginning and the end of disbelief. It is inevitable to associate Vermette’s interest in structures, or her detachment, with the Structural/materialist film movement. The repeated use of contrasting patterns and geometric shapes at different exposures and focal lengths speaks to a methodology in which time affords dimensionality. The most important aspect of the presentation of an image is its framing and the passing time between moving parts: the entr’acte. The process and its artificiality are the film. The square or rectangle that surrounds the image is the same of a window, of a house’s wall, the artist’s room, and the flat table she works on. Vermette is interested in what those spaces permit, and how they can be animated through scale, perspective, duration, and imagination. She challenges materials and constructions, and breaks them down to chaotic configurations that, in turn, become a vindication of basic forms. Through fixed camera-pointing, loops, and transitions, perspective gets displaced. “Only by forgetting can I see the place again as it really is,” we hear in Vermette’s film
Les Châssis de Lourdes
(2016), made with footage the artist’s father had shot in their family home. The quote is from David Byrne in his film
True Stories
(1986) after his band’s concert,
Stop Making Sense
, and regarding the nature of the chronicles published in tabloid newspapers at the time. His narration is a fitting and cohesive explanation of the metaphysical concerns that ignite Vermette’s work: the evolution of aspirations through time and experience or, what is the same, the pursuit of life after catastrophe.
Still from
Domus
, by Rhayne Vermette; courtesy of the artist. 2017, 15 minutes, HD from 35mm, 16mm and Super-8mm, color, sound.Vermette’s work as a whole is neither experimental nor documentarian or fictional, but something mutable that brings together elements from all those categories, a kind of multi-media architectural settlement of the mind where ruins and reigns collide. For Vermette, the film frame is not a cage or rigid container, but one of those homes whose structures are capable of swinging during earthquakes, adapting to the changing phases, morphing and readjusting, moving along. This is reminiscent of Japanese building design, but also of Italian Carlos Mollino’s work, which Vermette has studied for many years, and served as inspiration for her films
Turin
(2015) and
Domus
(2018). Reflecting on a utopian architecture, and with the versatility that mixing 35mm, 16mm, Super-8mm, black and white paper copies, and negative film affords,
Domus
frees itself from plots, maps, and models. Vermette recites stanzas that channel the free spirit of her subject, inspired by artist Al Jarnow’s time-lapse, stop-motion film
Celestial Animation
(1985):
In this space, divided by time, defined by light,we wait. Through what filter does a dream emerge instrument of precision a constructive prosceniumfor a perspective of vision waiting by night in the shadow of its framea darkness crowds the landscape and crouching behind this cold partitionborn from memoryand new to my languagehe comes.
Vermette utilizes cutter knives to craft line-based compositions on celluloid the way Mollino used pencils to sketch his buildings. Mollino had a Surrealist eye, and the dream-like two-room apartment he designed and built in Turin, the Casa Miller, was the set to stage his photographic work. He manipulated negatives, prints, and Polaroid film to achieve, if nothing else, at least his conceptual desires. An image of the interior entrance of this apartment became the front cover of the leading architectural journal
Domus
in 1937. In his photographs, the arrangement of furniture, fabrics, shapes, and bodies highlights what his vision as an artist was about: the creation of spaces that bring closer material architecture and sentient beings, shelters to be sentimental shells meant to last. Vermette sees this same potential in the malleability of celluloid, its organic ability to transcend. Connection and progression do not happen naturally, though. They need to be conjured, repeatedly, and often incited by failure. That is the case in
Tudor Village: A One Shot Deal
(2012), a film where Vermette explores the town’s sounds, and her experience trying to capture with her camera a lunar eclipse. Embracing mistakes and defeat, her meticulous work reflects on those aspects of the artistic process that are outside control. The deviations and strangeness of derailing lead the way to wider reach and depths. In search of that place that resembles the trace of the heart, Vermette’s work draws a consistently evolving trajectory. Now in preparation of a scripted film with an all-female crew, she questions her familiar modus operandi, switching the order and routines of her creative process, the labyrinth’s corridors and itineraries. Actors and performative acts further the implications of art as destruction, testing models of command, pushing the artist’s creative walls, and expanding the terrain as in a panoramic shot. The art of architecture in film is no other than light projected in the darkroom of the mind, a sensorial space for the construction of other words, worlds, and politics, those beyond the burned house in the time of rebirth.

Audrey Phillips Lapeyrouse is taking Charles Phillips Antiques & Architecturals to new heights.

Charles Phillips has been a staple for supplying unique Antiques and Architecturals in the southeast for more than forty years. A hidden gem that is a drive for most but a place where “discovery awaits, and treasures are found”. They have 8 buildings overflowing with antiques from across the pond, custom built and designed pieces and one of a kind finds. Owner and designer Charles Phillips and wife Sue have traveled all around Europe to hand pick the most sought after pieces all while raising six children at home. Sue gave us a look back at how it all started.
“We began almost 44 years ago buying, refinishing, then reselling antiques. But Charles can’t stand to leave things as they are! It’s been an ongoing love affair for him. He can be heard over years saying “I love what I do!!” “It’s my hobby!” Challenged by a former art teacher who stopped by the shop and asked, “What did you ever do with your art?”, he began designing and building furniture using the antique architectural elements that weren’t selling (an economic recession had stopped house construction). An artist friend bought his first design and pronounced it “art furniture”, encouraging him to continue the new venture. The business has continually evolved over the years as we’ve added so many more elements, including the Charles Phillips originals, which have grown to become over half of what we do. Charles’s design process - While most begin with a project and design/build to it, Charles’s preferred method is “I like to start with the parts and see the ‘project’ in them”.

As this next Phillips generation are now all grown up, one in particular has come into her own position at CP and is making waves. Audrey Lapeyrouse has worked close with and under her father since she was in college. She has now opened her own extension of services provided at CP, Audrey Phillips, Paint and Design. With her great taste, creativity, her father’s legacy and all she has learned over the years, she is taking it one step further and helping clients outside of the shop. She works with clients from start to finish picking out antique architectural, doors, windows, furniture, helping to create their own custom pieces while also helping with other design elements such as paint colors and so forth. Charles told us what it has been like for Audrey to join the family business. “When Audrey came alongside and joined the business, she brought her own artistic eye. She has expanded our outreach with her ability to help clients in the store and outside as she works with them to design their residential/commercial spaces around our pieces.”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4710a12b222786543f576842bdbf130c/tumblr_inline_pn8i18kAxy1uj7o9u_540.jpg)
Getting Started
Audrey told us about how working part time while in college at Charles Phillips helped her find her passion into design.
“It grew into opening my own business, Audrey Phillips Paint and Design. I started working with decorators and dealers specifically painting furniture. Through that and working under my dad I learned what sells and doesn’t, colors, etc. It taught me so much. As my dad’s business grew so did my part in it. My dad designs the furniture, then I come in behind him and decide colors and final details on how it will look in the end. Along the way, I started taking on customers who needed a little extra help with layout of their spaces and color schemes. My first big job came in 2012/13 when I helped decorator, Brandice Griffin, with a custom design build with our furniture for Wolf Bay Lodge. It was a huge step in the right direction. It eventually led to store fronts and interior design work for stores.”
FIVE
Audrey gave us insight to her work on FIVE, a popular restaurant in Downtown Mobile.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2a36959f6b3f6f932e592a46b4313510/tumblr_inline_pn8h3e6Tm31uj7o9u_540.jpg)
“The windows and shutter units are actually French balconies from the Mediterranean, circa 1880’s. The French doors, one used on each entrance, are from the French colonies in the same area as the balconies. We used as much of the original hardware as we could. I decided to keep them natural with a dark stain to stand out on Dauphin Street, but alson to keep the old feel of the area. The owner wanted an open concept from the restaurant to the street as well as something that fit with their other FIVE restaurants.”
G HARVELL
One of Audrey’s first projects that she worked on from start to finish was a men’s clothier store in Midtown Mobile, G Harvell.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5deb6569f7949117242dc2880d74045a/tumblr_inline_pn8h45W9yk1uj7o9u_540.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c48e70ec1b8b9ab4d09f34e5c0327c6f/tumblr_inline_pn8h4pjNpJ1uj7o9u_540.jpg)
“This project was from the ground up, including a floor-to-ceiling color project. It was fun to blend the old architectural pieces with new ideas and modern elements to get a look uniquely all its own for the Harvells. We began with a custom point of sale counter, wrapping station, and a large desk for their custom suits. We then laid out the store around those elements. Using antique heart pine beams from my brother, Luke Phillips, we divided the room into two areas to give dimension to the store. I enjoyed this project because of the Harvells and the type of merchandise they sell. Their custom suits and clothing were inspirational throughout the entire process.”
POINT CLEAR HOME
Lastly Audrey tells us about her work throughout this residential project in Point Clear.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c45bc0434da37f1943d534f8c918fb31/tumblr_inline_pn8gzgXUSd1uj7o9u_540.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cb77930dc66f810a57e809b05ccbea7d/tumblr_inline_pn8gzp8lDH1uj7o9u_540.jpg)
“Dr. Albert and Anne Haas Home in Point Clear is one of my favorite projects. This house is an example of what I originally and have continued to do for Charles Phillips. I’ve helped Anne on and off throughout the years. We bounce ideas off each other, and I find her the pieces she needs to fit her space. Sometimes our customers just need another set of eyes on their space and someone to double check measurements. I love this part the most. I’d rather not design someone’s personal living space. However, give me a tape measure and ideas of what you want and I’ll find it for you! We custom built a shutter TV cabinet for the living room, round table for the porch, and queen headboard in the guest room. The two-piece hutch from Eastern Europe in the dining room was customized with a paint finish. The natural two-piece cabinet was also customized to fit the needs of the homeowners. Like many of my other projects, there is a piece from Luke Phillips Furniture. In this case, it’s a swinging daybed on the screened in porch. It was a present from Anne to Albert a few years ago. One of Luke’s daybeds is the perfect final touch to most spaces.”
Family Support
Audrey explained how the support of her parents and her job at Charles Phillips helped her pursue her dreams.
“My parents have encouraged us to keep growing in whatever we pursue. You never know what tomorrow holds - you can guess, but God always holds the plan. They have always been there for us no matter what, lovingly pushing us forward without hovering. They want to use the success of their business to bless those around them. I couldn’t think of a better place to be. My job at Charles Phillips has changed year to year. I think that’s the best part!”

Interior designer and stylist Kristin Rawson has been slowly updating her family’s Seaforth home in northern Sydney since 2012.
At the time of purchasing, the home was perfectly functional, but with uninspiring and dated interiors. Fortunately, making things stylish is Kristin’s forte, having spent nearly a decade in New York working as the fashion Editor of Harper’s Bazaar and Teen Vogue magazines!
Upon returning to Australia some years ago, Kristin dove headfirst into the interiors world, trading fashion styling for styling interiors shoots, and working with clients to create their homes. She’s worked for some of the biggest titles in the world, but Kristin says the most difficult client of all is herself!
‘Without a doubt working on personal projects proves more difficult, solely for the reason there is just too much choice!,’ she says.
Kristin settled on a calming, neutral interior palette for her own home, taking inspiration from the southern coast of Italy. Whitewashed surfaces and stone features throughout, softened with textural linens, jute, seagrass, and wool.
Given this a family home, significant attention has also been paid to functional features, such as storage. The built-in seating in the living room, for example, provides ample hidden storage for toys, while custom cushions have been made using stain resistant and durable fabric.
Developing the backyard has been the largest element of the project to date, involving all new exterior surfaces, converting a former spa into an outdoor dining area, and the addition of a custom concrete pool. This landscape design was created by Formed Gardens, with installation by Hollandscapes.
Kristin says the house remains an ongoing project, with a second-storey designed by Alexander &CO currently in the works. The house is also available for location hire!
