i think its really funny when ai "artists" and/or supporters or whatever say that it totally counts as art because there's a "human element" because it took so much time and effort fine tuning the inputs. right. time and effort that could have been spent learning the fucking skill instead of plagiarizing other people's work. you see professor it's totally a legitimate essay, dont you know how much time it took to find the right wikipedia article to copy-paste from? lmao as if

Okay why is everyone pretending that supporting artists is the ONLY and BEST alternative to normal people using AI.

Like look I get it okay. AI has been trained on original art (theft). It's unethical and we will see companies profit from it at some point. That's not my point.

My point is WHY the artist community parades around shaming people for not supporting their artworks and/or figuring out art itself. You guys live in such a sheltered online space, with such a narrow point of view that you just don't get it do you? People don't WANT to switch to your art. Most of you have put art at such a pedestal, forced your artform to grow twisted as a bonsai in a dark space, that only around 5% of your followers seriously consider commissioning you.

You need to face it. The way we present art right now is not digestible to the masses. Our field was already at the sidelines of society and was beginning to be accepted in mainstream just a few years ago. The only reason it was accepted is because it was made accessible and people found their communities. Art finally revolved around having fun. AI put a wrench in this and people started experimenting with it out of curiosity, but at the end of the day they would have come back to the creator spaces because that machine-generated art does not fulfill our human need for beauty

Would have is the key word. Because how can they now? Everyone is moaning and groaning about Miyazaki being offended. Everyone is treating them like pariahs. And they start to remember the previous slights. How beginner artists are shamed for tracing. How every art had to be original and creative, else it was useless. How styles absolutely have to be developed. I know you may say "but that's not all of us!" BUT IT'S ENOUGH OF US TO DRIVE THEM AWAY

Do you guys get it now?? This whole bullshit gatekeeping is driving our audience, our next generation of artists, our communities.. all away. Let them experiment with AI art! Anyone with the blessing of sight can see that it lacks beauty and artistic ability - and people will start looking for better art (i.e. enter artist spaces). Look at them with ACCEPTANCE. Dont fucking shame them away again

Instead target the system. Make YOUR art more accessible. Have community art sessions. Online workshops. Name one of them "How to draw in Ghibli style" if you have to. They key now is not to target AI, it's a losing fight. Instead we amplify what makes our community so exemplary - our originality and pride. Post some tutorials. Show your processes. It would reach people who would love to learn. And they in turn would make the choice to support you. THIS is more effective than having moral superiority and shaming people for not supporting

Long rant about damaging ways of thinking and engaging with art and the psychological impact of seeking logic where there is none (trigger warnings: discussions of death and abuse, no graphic detail)

Talked for about 45 minutes as I cleaned my room to my partner about how the way people engage with art (spoken specifically about some film and art students) can extremely easily lead to over analyzation or attempts to connect points where there are none to seem smart while actively damaging their way of thinking about and reacting to the subject matter and lead to any critique on their descent into their thinking that everything can be explained away as "art, if you really look at it" as anti-intellectualist is really harmful--I'm NOT anti-intellectualist, I need help understanding a lot of things because of my autism which is WHY I research into things to the level I do, and I am not a person who believes in the "the curtains were just blue" mindset. We can and should think deeply about things and its good to develop the skill of seeing subtext and metaphor and literary devices and the like, I do believe the rise of not wanting to think deeply about anything is VERY troubling.

But there is also something to be said about removing the meaning of something by seeking to create meaning where there is none, instead of where there obviously is.

I saw a post that basically said "liveleak gore photos being edited with silly AI filters is a form of contemporary art because it reflects the online experience" (I'm paraphrasing, but the point is saying something like that is art) Um?? What point does that provide. What the fuck are you talking about. That name should send shivers down the spine of anyone with any shred of sensation in their heart. Its a vile look into the evil humans are capable of, not ART? Real people's violent deaths recorded and uploaded for the most disturbed people to ogle is disgusting, obscene and should terrify and anger you to your core.

To compare it to art as if that has meaning (even if the concept of art is malleable, the way we utilize words and definitions matters) is so disrespectful to me I am astounded. Analyzation of something as horrific as that can be done in a psychological or sociological sense for the benefit of STOPPING it, narrowing the causes and their impact (how we got to this point, the damage it causes, psychological implications) but nothing more in my opinion. Those in fields that require study of sadistic or sociopathic people, like forensic psychologists and cult experts etc, are brave and needed in this world to protect others. They do the grueling work of figuring out what makes sadistic people tick and their behavioral patterns to protect the people they would hurt or rescue those they have. (I think being able to identify what makes a monster is especially important right now so people can identify patterns to keep themselves safe is especially important right now..) and historians who focus on dictators and the past and current violent groups are needed because knowledge is power, and with power we can create justice.

But I dont find any worth in things that are meaningless. I could write a thesis on the subconscious psychological impact of detracting the emotional intensity of things that we must react to and no one likes when we talk about that but I think its really important to. There's a reason that those in the fields I mentioned earlier who have direct contact with that stuff have high suicide rates and need a good mental and therapeutic support system to do the work they do, because that is good and healthy to be disturbed. Therapeutic emotional regulation tools do not seek to remove all our emotions towards upsetting stimuli, they just help it not hurt our mental health and prevent it from being debilitating. Feeling nothing can be just as damaging as feeling too much.

Just as trauma is meaningless, there is no silver lining, and the trauma did not make you strong you ARE strong, and there is nothing to take from what happened aside from it should not have happened. You can and will thrive in spite of it, but If my trauma was recorded with a camera as so many survivors' was, I would rather die than call my trauma and the resulting cptsd "artistic" no matter the circumstance or definition attributed to it.

Ya know after looking at Gil’s Bond CE, i’ve come to realize the entire Bond CE system perfectly represents how all of FGO’s talk of “it’s about winning with a team of your favorites” is bullshit that’s completely betrayed by its money-grubbing gacha mechanics. Stay with me here I promise this will loop back around to that point.

Bond CEs are completely useless on about 90% of all servants, and it’s because of design decisions that are made explicitly to prioritize gacha rolls. Firstly they’re only ever useful on support units or Heracles. Heracles is his own unique case of being one of two base game servants with a truly unique Bond CE, granting a whopping 3 Guts, which itself is only useful because of a design oversight on how Guts works (where if there is only one servant left, triggering Guts automatically ends the enemy turn. This is because the AI registers that moment of death as “no enemies left” causing the turn to pre-emptively end), and Georgios who has a unqiue effect of on death applying damage cut and invincible to all other allies. This is typically only used for suiciding two level 1s so you can solo, but it still works well enough played straight. 

Aside form those two though all Bond CEs are one of two things: A gimmick, or a flat buff to the team. The former are always useless because of the low scaling they always have, which is but one of two crippling issues I’ll get into later, and the latter are only ever going to be useful for support units. Even then it’s practically random if the effect is going to be useful. Osakabehime has 15% NP gain instead of Quick Up despite being the first intended dedicated Quick Support, and for some god forsaken reason the 1star Berserker Asterios has Quick Up on his Bond CE. Casgil has NP Strength instead of Arts or NP gain up. Mozart has NP Strength instead of Arts or Critical. Ones like those arent always terrible but my point is that it’s rare for you to get something like Castamamo, who is a dedicated arts support who DOESNT need things like starting battery or passive star gen or the other typical support effects AND has a Bond CE that directly stacks with her main form of support. 

That all on its own isn’t the real issue though. The real issue is the stats. Every Bond CE is, at max level of 80, 100atk/100hp. Every single one. The same as those crappy free CEs with like, +.0000000001% Mystic Code EXP. This AUTOMATICALLY MAKES EVERY SINGLE DPS’S BOND CE USELESS NO MATTER WHAT. It doesn’t matter if AUO’s gives 30% NP Damage up and small random crit buffs, because why would i EVER use that when I can give him an effective 20% NP damage up, 50% battery, and an extra 1000+ attack with Aerial Drive? It doesn’t matter if Super Orion gets 8 stars per turn and 15% crit up for the team when I’m going to be bringing crit support for him regardless and can give him a 948atk up Victor of the Moon with 10% Buster and 20% Crit up on the only DPS I’ll need for the fight. To say nothing of how I dont need to farm for countless hours to raise their bond for those CEs.

“But what if I missed the Aerial Drive event, and don’t have Victor of the Moon?” Exactly my point. You spend countless hours grinding with these servants just for a 3 star let alone how fucking long it’d take for an SSR’s bond ce, and what do you get? A stocking stuffer that’s obsolete compared to just about any matching effect 5 star CE that requires you to roll the gacha. Even if they all had Heracles level effects, they’re crippled by that lack of stats.  And I can tell you exactly what the thought process behind those stats was. “They get them for free, so obviously just like the other free CEs, they have to have the absolute minimum stats.”  Even though they require multiple hundred hours of dedication and are supposed to embody your bond with a servant, hence the name, they consider them “freebies” simply because you aren’t gambling over them. 

They claim the game is about beating it with the servants you love, but the equivalent of their wedding rings are worthless in gameplay because as far as the developers are concerned, if you didn’t gamble for it then it shouldn't have value.

SO i just finished wonder egg priority and i think that with confidence i can say it has been one of my favorite animes like... ever ?? and not even from hyperfixation or obsession over it just... its so fucking real yet so simple in a way that i havent rlly seen shown in any other shows you feel ??

but first i wanna talk about how sexy the art and animation is real quick... HOMIE ITS SO GOOD LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST... serotonin... the characters are all so unique and iconic and fun but not over the top in their designs yknow ??? they seem like regular every day girls but they stand out and theyre all sO CUTE !!!! also i love how the style is like this soft bubbly slice of life lookin stuff with bright happy colors and the most beautiful scenes you could find but they also have the SICKEST fight scenes complete with whimsical animal helpers and terrifying villains and crazy weapons unique to each character. and the animation. god DAMN shawty i am obsessed with everything in this show. i might make a post solely about the art later lol bc i wanna get into the other stuff.

so the themes in the show right ?? it starts just as this cute lil magical girl kinda deal but within the first episode we see that like.. oh damn... thats kinda heavy... tbh i was a little shocked and thought about stopping bc yknow bad mental health BUT i was so intrigued that i had to keep going and i am SO GLAD that i did. because this show just so beautifully discusses all these heavy topics in such an eloquent and artistically expressive way. and also like, , the juxtaposition of the charming childlike vibe with bright colors and 14 yr old girl protagonists against the dark themes of suicide and so much else,, i think is just perfect. bc a lot of heavy animes are more of the seinen genre and have some middle aged dude as a protag or make the entire color palette dim or offer little relief to the pain of these heavy themes right ?? but NO not wonder egg bitches B) because these problems arent just things that ppl face later in life or just problems that need to be talked about among adults or the edgy seinen watching squad,, these are REAL problems that face people of every age, gender etc and i think its awesome that wonder egg addresses that. some may cringe at the thought of their high schooler watching animes that discuss sexual harassment, suicide, abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc,, but in reality it is the most comforting thing i have ever come across and is basically jsut free anime therapy. because not only does wonder egg present these themes to the viewers as something real that happens to all kinds of people (making said people feel heard in a way that maybe they hadnt before), but it also makes sure to vanquish all of these forms of trauma. and the way the trauma is vanquished isnt always beautiful and it isnt always just magically gone with a poof. the struggles of overcoming or living with that sort of thing are shown in such a real and relatable way that addresses every hardship trauma survivors have to go through. and i just. god i cry bro. 

oh m y GOD and the lgbtq+ rep in this show ?? like shawty... as soon as i saw episode one i was picking up on some gay/lesbian themes but then again im sapphic and project that a lot so i tend to see that sort of stuff like... everywhere... but NE WAYS... episode ten made me FUKCING CRY BRO LIke i cant believe there was a whole trans character with a whole trans pride hoodie like LKGHKDGH my heart is just so.. so fucking full thinking about him. bc like yeah i know there are trans characters in anime but i feel like theyre always very ambiguous about actually being trans or not or erased or portrayed as a harmful stereotype or theyre constantly misgendered and still refered to as their assigned gender at birth and i hate it. HOWEVEr... Kaoru.. *chefs kiss* it was so amazing to see a character straight up say “yeah im trans” in such a casual yet powerful way bc i personally have never seen that before. and i love love loved how he went into his backstory and talked to momoe about gender bc i think thats what she rlly needed and that it helped her find herself and it makes me so happy oh my god,, and the way they talked about it never seemed forced or like it was the focal point of his existence yknow ?? like yeah he existed to help momoe overcome some of her trauma but he also just existed to be HIM yknow ?? also... personally, i headcanon momoe as a trans girl even though i dont remember it being explicitly stated plus the school scenes of her and stuff would seem like they suggest otherwise ??but,,, SHAWTY THE AMOUNT OF SUBTEXT and her complicated relationship w gender is... something i feel like a cis girl would not go through so harshly yknow ?? with all of the questioning and feeling detached from femininity or feeling like ppl dont see her as an actual girl and only like her as a guy or for her masculine traits,,, but dont take my word on this bc i myself am a cis girl but that was just my take on it as someone in the lgbtq+ community trying to educate myself on the transgender community :) either way,, wonder eggs portrayal of momoe and kaoru and the way that momoe becomes so passionate about expressing herself the way she wants to as a girl is just... good lord im gonna cry its so perfect,,,.so ... i just love this show way too much. i also am honestly super lost about the relationship btwn acca and ura-acca ?? bc i was gonna mention ura-acca as a canonically gay guy bc when i was watching i interpreted ep 11 as him being in love with acca and being jealous of Azusa (bc i mean,, they lived together (i swear to god there was only one bed in that apartment) and had a daughter together and def loved each other and also when Frill said they were husbands and then when ura-acca said he wasnt attracted to azusa but he was def jealous of their relationship ??) but then i saw somewhere that theyre brothers ?? which would make sense ig since they look kinda similar and accas daughter called ura-acca “uncle”.. but at the same time its ANIME SO THEY ALL LOOK SIMILAR and referring to gay couples as siblings is an EXTREMELY common euphemism soooo... IM JUST LOST HERE... but yeah i tried doing research and found different things so i cant say anything for sure >:( however,,, if they are canonically a lil fruity for each other... when frill refered to acca as ura-accas husband i imploded dude you never hear that sort of wording in anime.. but if theyre related i am so sorry. 

god this is so much longer than i planned it to be oops but i also love the theme about like.. relying on friends to help carry your weight but at the same time not becoming completely dependent on those friends and using their support to learn how to love yourself and rely on yourself yknow ?? bc that is exactly what healthy friendships look like. bc i think ai sort of had a codependency thing goin on with koito maybe ?? but now she has a whole squad of funky friends that are so so different but all struggle with different kinds of trauma and although they fight over it, they always get through it with each other together. and they push each other no matter what to be the best versions of themselves and they teach other that getting hurt is okay because theyre always gonna be there to pick up the pieces no matter what happens. they can give each other space when they need and adapt to meet each others needs but theyre always able to balance it out with their own needs and thats such a beautiful thing in friendships especially at their age like damn i wish i had that maturity when i was 14 but no all i had was depression. another thing is that through these friendships you get to see all the different sides of each girl; you get to see them being strong or a shining light to their friends when theyre hurting but you also get to see them being hurt and weak and allowing themselves to be on the receiving end of the comfort. their friendships allows them to have weaknesses but it also allows them to highlight their strengths and thrive off of each others. I LOVE FRIENDSHIP DUDE

next i wanna briefly mention some of the themes connected to suicide that ive noticed. a big one is the survivors guilt that ai feels once koito is dead. several times she screams that she wishes she couldve gone with koito and she dreams of a “perfect world” where they committed a double suicide. one of the main reasons for her troubles is that she blames herself for koitos death and feels like it should be her thats dead... but at the same time she feels like too much of a coward to do anything now that koito is gone. she just has all these complex and contradicting feelings that wear away at her in ways that ppl that havent gone through the suicide of a loved one could never imagine. a lot of the times when things like this are portrayed in media i feel like its more in a way thats meant to guilt trip those that have taken their own lives and paint suicide as this selfish sin thats unforgivable but... not only does wonder egg reject that idea and instead portray it as a heartbreaking tragedy with,,, so so many terrible reasons, but it focuses on the feelings of ai separate from koito without blaming her in any way. not once did i feel like the show antagonized koito or that ai blamed koito for doing any of this, but they simply mourned her loss and touched on ais reaction towards the event but separate from koito herself if that makes sense. and i think that discussing survivors guilt without painting koito as the bad guy is something so beautifully done in wonder egg that can really resonate with those that have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with these same things.

okay i think this is the last thing ill mention,,, but HOMIE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE BIT AT THE END. I AM. OBSESSED. i am such a whore for anything about the multiverse okay n e ways...,, not only did this make a super epic trippy ending of season one and add a little bit more magical girl whimsy to the show,, but it had such a powerful message. from the perspective of og ai,, finding out that you killed yourself in another world is... i mean its definitely not a surprise but at the same time it rlly makes you think how close og ai herself couldve been to that point and what decisions led her out of that dark place in her life. if i were in her shoes i would be terrified and id cry bc the thought of going back to such a dark place and actually going through with something like that is my worst fear and probably something that ai fears too. but at the same time,,, think from the perspective of ai two !!! like yeah its true that theres this awful terrible version of ai that dies but theres also a whole version of ai that is a superhero magical girl fighting off monsters to save countless ppls lives !! and she has a badass lizard and a gang of awesome friends !!! at first i was worried that ai two would be jealous of og ai and compare herself to her and feel inferior but like.. THEYRE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON AND CAPABLE OF THE SAME THINGS !!! and ai two realized that !! just within the span of one episode, she went from the version of ai who took her life,, to the version of ai jumping in front of a friend to take a bullet for them and save their life. and that just inspired THE SHIT OUT OF ME. i think that ai was sent another version of herself to sort of beat her own worst enemy yknow ?? those doubts and fears that shes no good or that shes that same bystander from episode one and that she hasnt changed at all. but getting to interact with her parallel self and see her grow was just what she needed to realize that while yeah sometimes the worst thing can happen and things can be terrible but on the other hand sometimes the most wonderful thing imaginable can happen because she has the power to do either. 

so im gonna go ahead and stop rambling bc i got all my thoughts out that i wanted to for this post :D but yeah lol i might make another if i feel like it sometime. long story short: this show is perfect and it is going on my favorite of all times.

art has always been conceptual/ skill based what are you talking about. and those AIs steal art from artist to building off and dont credit or compensate them for taking their work. companies are now using AI instead of hiring artists, they could just type in a popular artist name and get work generated by the AI instead of paying the actual artist to make it for them

i didnt see this q/ first and im guessing is from the same person but honestly idrc. it's not like corporations weren't stealing from artists even to begin with. you know like gucci prospecting to commission Sharona Franklin to create set pieces for a campaign and then ghosting her only to get somebody else to completely replicate their work? ya. That was no AI involved. I'm not like agreeing with this practice but I'm just saying I don't see it as like a 'oh nooo this will surely kill the arts industry for good! :((' like studios haven't been pumping out the most mundane sub-par soulless fucking super hero TM film productions which all may as well have been made by an AI. Sorry if I seem cynical but like I just rely more on small communities of creatives and artists supporting each other over EVER trusting capitalist corporations with my art. Even to make a bag. Fuck this.
