Sonic Fan Claiming Several Sonadow Wiki Information as Their Own

It has recently been brought to our attention that there is a user by the name "Voiced by Mandy" on YouTube, X, Instagram and TikTok that made a video based off of a majority of our content. The user did not credit us despite us doing a majority of the research shown and the person even put us down by trying to claim a fact we have as misinformation.

Though we do not mind when people use our research to tell others about it, we asked that at least we be credited, especially for our personal analyzations. This user has not done that, not even in her document where she credited others.

To make matters worse, the person only mentioned the Sonadow Wiki while trying to state that we were spreading misinformation when saying that Sonic and Shadow Chao are the only Sonic themed Chao who can mate with each other. Because other Sonic themed Chao are immortal, that is why only the Sonic and Shadow Chao can mate with each other without hacks or modifications.

There are several parts in the video that takes content from us or were made aware of due to our content on the wiki, but the person took the information as her own and acted as if she did all the research to find all the information. She even took our Sonic Prime screenshots, which we can tell due to the pictures being the same exact frame we took, and still does not credit. (Starts at 1:41:42)

There are even times the person took our site references when talking about information we mentioned, such as when she talks about the symbolism with hydrangeas. We talk about this on our Observations page and the first site referenced is the same exact website shown on the video.

She also took our content talking about how Sonic is the Moon and that the Sonic x Shadow 2021 Calendar story references Tanabata. We were the first to make this known to the public, even before the Sonadow Wiki was founded by having it on the Shipping Wiki first. Yet the person acts as if this theory, or analyzation, came from herself or out of nowhere despite it being us who made this analyzation known. Other analyzations made on the story were also taken, such as how the astronomical show of the moon and ARK were Sonic's favorite, meaning that the times he meets up with Shadow are his favorites since Sonic represents the Moon while Shadow the ARK (in this story) (timestamp 2:41:15).

Another part is how in the description for the story, it states that Sonic and Shadow share an intimate relationship, which the person does not go deeper into to fully explain it properly.

One last analyzation taken about this story is how Sonic, being the moon, overlooks Shadow who is ostracized by society and watches over him forever and ever. (timestamp 2:40:41)

There are even other times where it is not so obvious (but possible) she took our research by trying to find the content herself to make it seem as if she found it instead of us. One of these times where this can be highly likely possible is the S-Rank moments in Sonic Colors (DS) (timestamp 1:18:00). We went through the effort to play the game ourselves in order to get this content, but to hide how we made these things known to the public after our hard work, she went to try to get S-Rank herself so that she wouldn't have to use our screenshots from our gameplay with the game.

The only time we were mentioned in the video (by voice only) was with our fact about the Sonic and Shadow Chao, but unlike others who also weren't referenced by links but by text, she does not state that what we've said comes from the Sonadow Wiki by putting the text: "Source: [name of site]." And while mentioning this, the person even tried to state that this fact about the Chao could be misinformation.

When trying to confront her, she even hid the comment made so that others wouldn't know that she took our information without crediting us while putting us down at the same time.

We who take care of the Sonadow Wiki went through a lot of harassment, especially from those who hate how we collect data concerning Sonadow, hate the ship or just wanted to harass us for fun. Some even thought that the official information we recorded were fan content or they say lies about us without even looking at the materials themselves. But what this person has done is by far one of the most scummiest things someone has ever done to us where the person even is gloating about all the attention Sonadow fans are giving them for the majority of the research we've done, where the person even gloated about how they can monetize videos after the attention this video has brought them and where they even are trying to get more views nine days later.

If people don't like our content or don't like us, then don't use our content; don't steal our work. If you can't be fair and at least credit your sources correctly, even if you don't agree with everything, then don't use our things at all. That is low, and again, very scummy.

Update:

In an update about the situation, one of our admins went around trying to bring awareness about the situation, but instead of being talked to or consulted, they were ignored and even had their comment made hidden by one of the ones who is credited in the video and praised it. The person even made art for the video implying that the video creator is the main or only one who did all the effort in finding all the information in the video. This artist then made an off comment, on their own without talking to the person, claiming that the video creator taking our research was based off of "crazy assumptions" despite the evidences and that the person is crazy and needs help.

This person has also helped with the video, and with that, helped with the creation of the video to have it take our research for their own. This is said in the "Special Thank You" section in the video. Due to being promoted and advertised by this video, along with helping the creation of it completely, that could be the main reason as to why this artist reacted this way to the person reaching out to them.

We also tried to reach out to others to ask for help in at least getting recognized for credit, but we have yet heard any responses from those we reached out to. Instead, we were ignored.

On the Matter of the TikTok Ban

There's a lot of motte-and-bailey stuff going around about the TikTok ban. (And I probably have some out-group homogeneity bias too.) For the record I'm mostly against the ban but am more sympathetic to some arguments than others. I thought I'd break down some of the reasons and why I think they are weak.

Probably the biggest umbrella reason for supporting a TikTok ban is espionage. Senator Cotton called it a "spy app."

The biggest, baddest version of the espionage argument I've heard is the app itself is hacking our phones. "Hacking" in that the app is going outside of its sandbox and collecting data not normally available to it. This would be a huge bombshell if true. However, I've seen no real evidence backing this claim. It seems like criminal law would be a great vector for tackling this. As far as I can tell we haven't seen a warrant served against ByteDance US offices. Even if criminal justice is too slow and we need more immediate relief over such a threat, making some evidence public would bolster that argument.

The weaker form of the espionage act is TikTok engages in surveillance capitalism and sells or gives the results to folks we don't like (Chinese Intelligence). This one feels like a nothing burger. I guess it is possible TikTok lacks the strong moral fiber of folks like Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Evan Spiegel. It seems like the data is already out there. It transits a wide network of entities via multiple real time market places. I guess it would be marginally better if Chinese Intelligence would have to spend more to place ads and get data that way. It seems like the real solution to data privacy is a combination of technical safeguards to make less data available and strong legal protections (where again one can build a legal case) and not just naming and banning unpopular actors.

After espionage, the next most common justification I hear for TikTok is that it boosts Chinese soft power by spreading anti-American memes and/or social contagions that make American children unwell. I'll deal specifically with mental wellness in the next section and focus on Anti-American memes here.

As far as I can tell, the USG is a big booster of anti-America memes at home via how domestic status games and politics intersect into the arts world and into NEA funding. I suspect that the content NEA has funded over the past 50 years has a net negative valence on American history. I'd suggest the USG stop doing that if they are concerned about Anti-America memes.

I'm sure part of this must be my filter bubble, but very little I've seen on TikTok is overtly Anti-America. NYT's The 1619 Project sends much more of an America is a nation founded on sin and needs to atone message than anything I've ever seen on TikTok.

Beyond content that makes people overtly hate America, TikTok has been accused of promoting content that makes Americans unwell: social contagion, lionizing bad behavior, etc. The classic version of this is anorexia/bulimia content and pro-shoplifting content (looking at you Tumblr). A more modern right-wing take on this is pro-trans content being a social contagion (for the purposes of this post I will assume it is, sorry Trans friends and readers).

It's hard to say TikTok promotes this content any more than Instagram. It's possible that being owned by Evil Chinese Corporation boosts these categories beyond market demand for it, but has anyone actually proved that out. Up until about a week ago (long after the TikTok ban process started), Meta (Instagram) was one of the most pro-LGBTQ (and specifically pro-trans) big businesses on Earth. Or maybe TikTok's sin is being insufficiently pro-queer (a la Red Book).

I saw quite a bit of pro-trans and pro-queer content on TikTok, a tiny bit of pro-shoplifting content, and quite a bit of anti-cop content peaking in 2021 and declining from there. On the flip side, I saw a ton of pro-natalist content (beautiful moms, beautiful babies, heartwarming parenting videos). I also saw a ton of fitness content. I didn't see any eating disorder content but probably am not in the right demos for that.

Outside of a few banned content categories, it doesn't seem like TikTok is putting its thumb on the scale to make Americans unwell by showing them maladaptive strategies.

Aside from the content itself, some argue that the app’s design creates dopamine-driven addiction for both adults and children. It has been called Digital Fentanyl somewhat hyperbolically. (I've never seen someone passed out on the street at midday scrolling TikTok, but maybe their phones get scooped up too quickly). I’m somewhat sympathetic to this concern, but divestment (the USG’s preferred remedy) doesn’t really address it. It also doesn't seem like TikTok is the sole offender here, Instagram is a huge app with similar patterns. I'm not sure why Mark Zuckerberg profiting off this addiction is substantially better than ByteDance. It seems like a better remedy to scrolling addiction are things exclusion lists, age limits, parental controls, and if it really has to come down to it, rules about interfaces and content, rather than rules about ownership.

Outside of any app content, sometimes I see banning TikTok promoted as retaliation for China providing insufficient market access to its country by western companies. I am actually pretty sympathetic to this argument. China puts up big barriers to the access to its markets by outside companies, often requiring the use of joint-ventures with Chinese companies with Chinese staff which act as defacto technology transfer programs.

I think this is a bit ham-fisted towards that approach but ultimately not unreasonable. Instagram has a product not unlike TikTok, that ultimately degrades into a video scroller. YouTube Shorts is also awfully similar to TikTok. These apps seem to struggle with GTM and network access and not technology though. There's hardly any technology TikTok has that they lack. In terms of stealing technology, robbing part of a drone company, or part of Hauwei would give a bigger boon. In terms of local apps vs foreign apps, I think better localization and a sense of Chinese patriotism have given Chinese companies a leg up in their domestic markets, while an off putting censorship regime has caused foreign companies to stumble (only in the past decade have we really been able to begin to catch up on political taboos).

It's pretty clear that China is for the Chinese people. It doesn't reflect this perfectly, but a supermajority of Chinese seem to believe this. But “Who is America for?” is much less clear; it sometimes feels like it’s just for USD holders. I don't think it's really clear to Americans why Instagram winning is in their best interest. In fact Instagram's owners and staff weigh in on a lot of domestic disputes that ByteDance seems disinterested in.

I think in a healthier country, the local good-enough product would win. When was the last time "buy American" was anything but a punchline for rubes? We've dissolved the ties that bind us and are playing too many zero sum games at home.

As Sam Hyde puts it: "Wouldn't that be interesting if China makes it to Mars first. It would be great for Humanity why don't we do it. Let's do it. China makes it to Mars before America does that sound like fun? It's just humans; they're just interchangeable economic units. Why wouldn't we want that? I think we do do."

Lastly, resistance to divestment (choosing to dissolve rather than sell) has been used as a cudgel to "prove" that TikTok is up to something nefarious. I don't really buy it. This is an iterated game and there are a lot of players with their own agendas. If TikTok sells, it's open season to start swallowing-up Chinese foreign subsidiaries left and right. Making the US shut it down, makes US lawmakers pay a heavy price in terms of popularity for killing such a popular app. Meanwhile there are a bunch of staff at ByteDance Corporate (in China) who will likely circulate through a number of Chinese companies, who may be better off being viewed as standing up to America than capitulating. Sometimes it’s better not to pay the Danegeld.

I deleted my facebook and Instagram heres the aftermath two months later

So back in May of 2021 my Facebook account was hacked and the hacker enabled 2FA. I explain it in detail here. Basically, if this happens to your Facebook account its extremely unlikely you will be able to recover your account or data. Incredible to me that a billion-dollar company would not have more caution for users’ data in this instance. So, I decided that I would not be getting a new Facebook account and even used google plus as an interim (RIP google plus). I just could not get over that Facebook would not be able to recover me my account despite multiple attempts at verifying my identity. I honestly wish for the day Facebook goes the way of myspace, why did we ever turn our back on my space? Tom, customizable websites, HTML and CSS, top friends, music on your page, way better than Facebook profiles even today granted Facebook did have some major improvements but still myspace was a good website with a lot of nice custom features and we still traded it for Facebook. In a way I felt a personal grudge against Mark Zuckerberg but continued to support him thru WhatsApp and Instagram. Up until May 2023 I had Instagram and WhatsApp. After some careful thinking I decided that I would delete those accounts too. It was something that I thought about for a while as it is a pretty big decision, but I ultimately decided this was a net positive for me. In the two months since I can say I have no regrets deleting these social media accounts. I still have twitter, TikTok and snapchat but I spend far less time on those accounts than I ever did on Facebook or Instagram, even since deleting my time spent on those apps have not changed and overall, my screen time is down to 30% less than what it was when I had Instagram and Facebook. I am considering a full social media purge but have yet to go thru with that. I will say that there are out of the nearly 1000 accounts of combined followers and following accounts there are only a few dozen people who I genuinely miss seeing there updates and ease of contact, some people who i may sadly never see or speak to again, but otherwise it has made no difference in my social life. In general the people who I don’t see often seem more happy to see me since my digital replica isn’t accessible anymore and the same goes for the people I see often. I also think that some people think I blocked them or something else and took it personal, not realizing I deleted my account for my own personal reasons that did not include any particular individual. Deleting your social media account is a big decision that you have to make for yourself, I would recommend downloading any available data before doing so. I’d also recommend reaching out to a few people personally you’d like to keep in touch with or to write a farewell post (I did the former) before closing a huge avenue of social interaction. There are still some people who I did lose contact with but that’s life, it goes on. Ultimately for me I think it has been a good decision and is another thing to add to the list of changes I’ve made during my journey of personal development. I’ve had no regrets my screen time has gone down giving me time to do other things instead and I feel more present overall in my day-to-day life.

hey guys, long time no see!

this blog hasn't been updated for quite some time (my last post was on may 2021 😭) but i came back for a few reasons and i'll explain:

if you don't know yet, i'm brazilian and twitter/x was banned in my country because its owner refuse to respect our laws. i no longer have access to @bitnazone, which was an account dedicated to ashley. i was the only administrator, so the account is now permanently closed.

i also have an instagram account where i used to upload some laco edits i shared on my main twt account (ex @/ladiescodae, which i deactivated because trolls were hacking accounts to post hate speech and things like that).

honestly, i don’t plan on returning to twitter/x, even if it becomes available here again. i don't enjoy using it, i just kept the account because i love ashley and laco so much and i wanted to share this love with other lavelys.

anyways, i was trying to figure out a way to keep an account where i can talk about ladies' code and i'll use this blog as if i was on stan twt, so don't mind me if you suddenly see me babbling over here 🥹

Der urbane Raum ist längst ein Inter_Space: Hier treffen Materielles und Virtuelles, analoge Räume und digitale Kommunikationströme – in den unterschiedlichsten Situationen und im steten Wechsel – aufeinander. Oft unsichtbar und als ‚technisch neutral‘ deklariert bestimmen Tech-Unternehmen zunehmend über urbane Gestaltung, wollen die Komplexität und Zukunft von Städten durch ‚Smartness‘ berechenbar machen. Diverse Lebenswirklichkeiten marginalisierter Perspektiven finden dabei wenig Raum oder Repräsentation. Im Gegenteil: Von meist weißen, cis-männlich dominierten Entwicklern programmierte Technologien scheinen mehr und mehr über gesellschaftliche Teilhabe, Möglichkeiten der Raumaneignung on- und offline sowie über die Zugänglichkeit zu (sozialer) Infrastruktur zu entscheiden.

Cyberfeministische Zusammenschlüsse aber leisten Widerstand. Durch das Schaffen eigener Räume und (technologischer) Infrastrukturen hinterfragen – und hacken! – sie vorherrschende Geschlechterhierarchien und Machtverhältnisse, die sich in technologischen Entwicklungen und (digitalen) Stadträumen fortschreiben.

Aufbauend auf einer fünfmonatigen Feldforschung in 2021 zeigt der Vortrag, wie hackfeministische Kollektive wichtige Mitgestalterinnen digitaler Zukünfte sind. Indem sie Wissen und Werkzeuge teilen, die sich einer patriarchalen Codierung entziehen, schaffen sie Zugänge zu Interfaces, (Cyber-)Spaces und letztendlich zur Gesellschaft selbst. Ihr Aktivismus zeigt, wie (urbanes) Hacking eine entscheidende Praxis ist, um mit nicht-demokratisch kontrollierten Digitalisierungsprozessen zu brechen: zugunsten einer Stadt für alle.

Maja-Lee Voigt (sie/ihr) ist Stadtforscherin, Doktorandin an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg und Mitbegründerin des interdisziplinären Stadtforschungskollektivs Akteurinnen für urbanen Ungehorsam in Hamburg. Begleitet von einem ethnografischen Methodenkoffer und kritisch feministischem Denken forscht sie zu Amazons Bits, Bytes und Boxen. Ansonsten geht sie der Automatisierung logistischer Städte nach, widmet sich Fragen zum cyberfeministischen Widerstand gegen algorithmische Architekturen der Unterdrückung und kämpft für die Überwindung des Patriarchats auf dem Weg hin zu gerechteren urbanen Zukünften.

WEEK 8: BODY DYSMORPHIA & PLASTIC SURGERY. HOW ARE THEY RELEVANT TO THE INSTAGRAM FILTERS!

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) can be a dangerous pitfall for those considering plastic surgery. People with BDD have a distorted view of their appearance, fixating on minor flaws that others might not even notice. While they may believe surgery will solve their problems, research shows it often leads to greater dissatisfaction and a chasing of unrealistic ideals. A responsible plastic surgeon will screen for BDD to ensure patients are motivated by self-improvement, not a mental health condition.

Plastic surgeons have observed an unsettling rise in the number of patients who want to alter their appearance to resemble the filtered and digitally altered photos they see on social media. -

Strange obsessions with digitally enhanced perfection and relatively inexpensive digital tools for self-image manipulation appear to be contributing another level to some cases of body dysmorphic disorder.

A mental health condition in which a person is preoccupied with thinking about perceived or imagined imperfections in their own body. Numerous aspects of life are disrupted by this fixation, including social relationships, the workplace, education, and homes.

The rise in case scenarios of what some scholars refer to as Snapchat dysmorphia can have a detrimental effect on an individual's self-esteem.

These psyches and body image problems, if extreme enough, can progress to body dysmorphic disorder.

More extensive research has revealed a clear link between social media use and negative emotions. The more time users spend on social media platforms, the more isolated and lonely they start to feel.

In conclusion, knowing how filters and social media can impact the way we think of the “beauty” notion can help us acknowledge the imperfections within ourselves, embrace them, and stay confident and empathetic for our flaws.
