SPN Questions Game!

1. When did you start watching Supernatural?

I binged it my freshman year of college, while season 10 was airing. I got caught up in time to start watching mid season! (I had no life. Still don’t.)

2. Who is your favorite in TFW?

Sam. Always Sam.

3. Who is your least favorite in TFW?

I guess Cas? If I have to choose? I don’t have anything against him, he just seems redundant lately.

4. Tag your top 5 Supernatural blogs.

5. Who is your favorite character (not including TFW)?

If “TFW” just means TFW 1.0, then Jack. Besides him, Crowley. I miss Crowley.

6. Who is your favorite woman in Supernatural?

Rowena. She’s perfect.

7. John or Mary?

John. He’s more controversial. He always causes strong emotional reactions in me, but to this day I still can’t figure out if I like him or hate him. Mary I’m just kind of neutral about.

8. What were your first opinions of Sam, Dean, Cas, and Jack?

Loved them the minute I saw them! Seriously though, I felt for Sam and everything he was going through so hard. (And s1!Sam is...so cute.) I found Dean funny but not annoyingly so, and his serious moments were very touching. My first impression of Cas was pure awe, although that’s slowly drained away through the seasons.

Jack on the other hand...oh gosh. When he appeared in the last shot of season 12, I was So Done with him already. Cas was dead, Crowley was dead, and I was exhausted. Then, over the hiatus, I came to realize they were doing more of a blank-slate character rather than an evil-at-heart character, and I warmed more to the idea of him. By the season 13 premiere, I was enraptured by him and the way he reacted to the new world around him. And by the end of the first ep, he had my heart. (and still does!)

9. What’s your favorite season?

Season 5. The apocalypse storyline and the angst, and the way Sam and Dean are pitted against each other but still cling to each other is my jam. And SWAN SONG.

10. What’s your least favorite season?

Season 9. This is the season I went full bitterSam!girl. The POVs were so skewed in the Sam and Dean conflict. The distance between them made the whole season quite chilly—and made the finale seem forced. The angels-falling and Abaddon v. Crowley story arcs were a mess. The one-off episodes weren’t fun. I found Mark of Cain to be a boring, dead-end story. Human!Cas didn’t last nearly long enough to be interesting. Even Dean’s death didn’t resonate quite right with me. The only good, memorable thing from season 9 was the Sam/Cas hug.

11. Opinions on Destiel?

I don’t ship it. The fans who loudly insist it should—and will—be canon have driven me to the point of being annoyed by it. I’m extra-appreciative of the shippers who enjoy it regardless of canon.

12. Do you believe Supernatural queerbaits?

Hahahahahahahaha no. Whatever other flaws they may have, TPTB have been very clear about what they do and don’t intend to do regarding characters’ sexualities. Any claims of queerbaiting stem from scrutinizing a collection of subtle performance tics and a desperate confirmation bias. You want queerbaiting, head over to the Teen Wolf fandom.

13. Seasons 1-7 or 8-14?

1-7, no contest. There are fewer retcons, fewer dumb episodes, fewer superfluous side characters (and they were used more sparingly—therefore more enjoyably), and an overall tighter and emotionally genuine story.

That being said, there are some wonderful things from the latter seasons: Rowena, Jack, the rock-steady marriage of Sam and Dean from season 11 onward. (I despised the forced conflicts of seasons 8 and 9.)

14. Favorite villain (plot wise)?

Ruby. Azazel. Season 5 Lucifer. Why were these villains good? They had excellent interactions with Sam.

Ruby, in her own words, was awesome. She played Sam like a fiddle, and I love that. Azazel, in all his iterations, was an incredible mastermind disguised as an agent of chaos. And Lucifer (in season 5 only, mind you) was the epitome of quiet menace.

15. Do you think they should end the Lucifer plot line?

Yes, about two years ago.

16. Who do you think has gone through more trauma (Sam, Dean, or Cas)

I don’t like comparing trauma, because it deems some people’s suffering more valid than others’.

Objectively, Sam has gone through the most trauma (being caged for so long). But Dean has suffered too, in different ways.

17. What’s your favorite Supernatural episode?

Swan Song. Always Swan Song. I don’t wish the show had ended here, but it would have been a perfect finale.

18. Do you like case episodes?

Yes! The show was built on them. I especially like when they highlight some aspect of Sam and Dean’s current struggles. (in a subtle way, though)

19. Who do you relate most to in TFW?

Sam. I love my awkward, fish-out-of-water son.

20. Why do you like Supernatural?

Hmm...one of the things I appreciate most about it is the lack of romantically focused plots. The main characters are heterosexual life partners with no intentions of entering romantic relationships with other people.

That’s the other thing—Sam and Dean are the ultimate leads. J2 are perfect onscreen together. Their chemistry is what makes every stupid storyline, every forced plot point manageable, because it always comes back to them and their psychotic, irrational, erotic codependency.

I guess I could also mention that my passion for SPN was waning by the time season 12 wound down. Jack was what revitalized my love for the show in season 13—and prompted me to join tumblr and fandom! So yeah, I love the little nougat boy a lot too.

21. If you could bring back one character and kill off another who would they be?

Bring back? Original Bobby. He wasn’t perfect, but he was an excellent exposition machine, and someone for Sam and Dean to talk to besides each other. And he had some truly fantastic one-liners.

Kill? Anyone and everyone played by Mark Pellegrino. I’m so sick of his irrelevant storylines. It’s as if Buckleming is trying to create a Venom-style spinoff about a dude and his serial-killing eldritch horror boyfriend. (I’m down for whatever it takes to get him off my show, tbh!)

If Lucifer does come back this season, I’ll accept it only if Sam gets to kill him this time.

Supernatural Survey

1. What season did you start watching Supernatural?  I started watching July 3rd, 2016. I started watching from the pilot and finished the finale of s10 on August 19th (11 wasn’t available to view yet). I only know the dates because I made a Facebook post the day I started (I think it said “Amanda is watching supernatural season 1 - I think I may have made a terrible mistake …”) and one of my first Tumblr posts marking the day I finished. 12 was the first season I watched live.

2. Who was the first character you fell in love with?  I think it was Dean by about ten minutes or something. I’m pretty sure Dean’s cocky “Easy Tiger,” made me say “Oh, no,” shortly before whatever Sam said or did that made me say, “Yeeeah, I’m in trouble.”

3. Who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love?  Um, don’t hate me. Kevin? My first watch-through I found him incredibly whiny and ungrateful for a while. Then he started growing on me and I would call him ‘Kevin’ when he was annoying me and ‘Tran’ when I was proud of him. The second time around, I was able to be much more sympathetic.

4. Which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with?  This is hard. My answer surprised me because it might (gun to my head) be Sam. I always thought I found Dean *slightly* more attractive (again, gun to my head). And character-wise I love them equally. I guess I just think Sam and I would work better together in a long-term relationship.

5. If you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose?  Since I picked Sam for the other, can I say Dean?

6. What would you do on the date? Lol idk, see an old movie at a drive-in theatre? Something tells me Dean would enjoy the classic combination. I’d love whatever. I’d want him to be able to relax and be himself - see that ‘little kid’ side we get a glimpse of every so often. Maybe I could find some way to let him know he’s so much more than just his good looks?

7. Which character would you most want to be like?  Donna? I love her so much. I guess I see myself in her, but she’s *more so* idk. Her sweetness. Her bubbly personality. She’s not afraid to get personal. She’s been hurt, but she doesn’t let it make her hide who she is. She’s got a strength that usually takes people by surprise because she’s so nice, they think she must be soft. She likes doughnuts … She told Dean freaking Winchester to stuff it.

8. Which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead? If you’d have asked me this before the finale I’d have said Gabe. I don’t think bringing him back would cheapen his death (or continue to cheapen deaths on the show in general) because we were never sure whether to believe if he’d really died anyway. After the tangled mess of the finale (I’m including Eileen in this) I’m really not sure how to answer.

9. Which character would you most like to punch?  If by punch you mean repeatedly before handing her over to Sam to finish off and Sam is under some spell that allows him to give her the kind of death she deserves but he doesn’t have to feel too bad about it afterwards (idk a justice spell? That could be a real thing)- Toni freaking Bevel. That woman is a psychotic monster. I loathe her. Story time, 12x1 was the first episode I watched live. So I had to make myself be super quiet because I couldn’t rewind or rely on subtitles like I had been doing when the show would make me yell at the tv. The first commercial break I apparently yelled, “FREAKING BITCH!” so loud my mom heard me from upstairs. She thought it was hilarious. This was before the mind rape even happened.

10. Who is your absolute favorite character? Nope

11. Which “Big Bad” do you think was the worst? There are the villains I love, the villains I love to hate, and the villains I loathe. Spn has some of all three. Crowley is the scariest, I think, because he’s the most intelligent and devious and they keep forgetting he’s a bad guy, but I love him. Lucifer is probably the most evil, and most powerful, but I like him as a villain. Metatron was probably the one I hated the most (Toni couldn’t be called a big bad, I suppose, even though I hated her the most of all).

12. Which character are you most like?  It’s funny how many similarities I see in both Sam and Dean, but I think it’s prolly Donna. She’s more badass than I am, though :)

13. What death hit you the hardest?  The first time Sam died was hard because Jensen is too good at his job. When Dean died with the MOC Jared’s reaction gutted me. I knew they were coming back in those instances and what made it hard was witnessing the pain of the other. Bobby was the same in that I was sad to see him go, but they did him justice, I thought, and the hard part was seeing Sam and Dean go through that. Charlie’s was brutal. Charlie was probably the first time I’ve ever cried because someone died more than because the people left behind were sad. Not that the guys falling back and acting like they couldn’t bear to go in that room didn’t help sell it.

14. What season finale hit you the hardest?  Season 3, maybe? I don’t like hellhounds. I should; I typically love everything dog related, but hellhounds freak me out because of how much I don’t like to watch that scene. Then, Five was beautiful and so sad. I already mentioned about the season 2 and 9 finales.

15. What are your ten all-time favorite episodes?  Oh shoot! Um … Baby Regarding Dean Point of No Return It’s a Terrible Life Swan Song Two Minutes to Midnight In My Time of Dying Tall Tales Plush Jus in Bello These are just the first ten I thought of. I’m not sure if they’re my actual ten favorite, but they’ll do.

16. What’s been your favorite season? Oh, I don’t know. Um, maybe five? 

17. Who is your favorite angel? Besides Cas, I really liked Gabe, then Samandriel and Balthazar.

18. Who’s your favorite demon?   Ooh. Um Crowley obvi. I really loved Ruby as a character. I know there’s the pesky betrayal thing, but her banter with Dean is beautiful, she did keep Sam alive when Dean was gone, and I think in her twisted demon way, she really cared about him. Even if you believe everything before was an act (I could debate a couple points) the things she said after Lucifer’s cage was unlocked sounded like she really believed she, Sam, and Dean were going to be reconciled somehow and live happily ever after. I also liked Meg as a villain and reluctant ally.

19. Who’s your favorite evil character?  Besides the ones I’ve already mentioned above, I love Rowena (as far as villains I love) and Abaddon (as far as villains I love to hate). I also loved Dick because without him we wouldn’t have had all the amazing dick jokes (I have a very simple sense of humor, I won’t apologize)

20. So you have any supernatural ships? SamxSarah, SamxEileen. I always thought Dean and Bela would end up getting together, although it would have been mostly physical and wouldn’t have lasted long. I always wished Dean and Lisa could have made it work. I know, I know.

21. Who’s your favorite supporting actor?  The heck am I supposed to answer this?

22. What’s your favorite quote from the show?  Again, say what? I’ll give you a few. “Are you under the impression that family is supposed to make you feel good … They’re supposed to make you miserable! That’s why they’re family!” “Do I look like a ditchable prom date to you? … Family don’t end with blood boy.” “I am your flesh-and-blood brother … Believe in that … You gotta make it stone number one and build on it.”

23. If you could cast one famous actor in an episode of SPN, who would you chose?  lol Tom Hiddleston! Why not? Angel, demon, hunter, he could fill any of the above and nail it.

24. If you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included?   I’d like to see a black dog or kelpie. That would be awesome.

25. Who’s your favorite girl that Dean’s hooked up with?  Lisa

27. What are some of your favorite convention moments?  When j2 played with the delay in the screen behind them to make it look like there were an infinite number of j2’s turning around. That’s funny and adorable. Um, when Sheppard got asked by the little girl about Crowley’s demon deal. When the crowd did the thing with the candles for Jared. When Jared or Jensen pretend they agreed to pay the person who asked the question.

28. If you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on SPN, how would you want your character described?  I basically wrote myself into an episode in devils’ trap. I mean I’m definitely cooler in the story than in rl, but my favorite is the respect and esteem Sam and Dean show when regular people (civilians) rise to the occasion when confronted with the supernatural. That’s the kind of character I’d like to play.

29. What do you hope to see in the next season?  Better writing. Continued character development. Monster of the week episodes.

what season did you start watching supernatural? Caught the last two minutes of the pilot when it originally aired,  perked up when I recognized "Dean" from GG, heard 'brothers', decided to check it out the following week and from then on I was a goner.

who was the first character you fell in love with? Honestly, can't recall. There were two hot, sweet, messed up, totally codependent brothers on my screen. I fell more for the relationship than either of them individually in those first eps.

who was a character that you hated at first but grew to love? Never really hated her, but was kinda meh on Rowena and now I adore her and that SOOOO better not of have been the last we see of her, I'll cry!

which character would you most want to be in a long-term relationship with? Have you SEEN this show?! ANYONE would be a sure fire recipe for disaster.

if you could go on just one date with one character, which one would you choose? Probably Charlie cause we could geek out together. Also she’s adorable.

what would you do on the date?Maybe just Netflix and chill, or for something a bit more geeky, a convention could be fun. Also get her to dish on the boys, cause she is a SPN fan after all ^^

which character would you most want to be like? Most people in this show are miserable, so um…pass? Hmm actually maybe Donna? She manages to keep an upbeat attitude even in the face of the most crazy shit while at the same time being completely competent.

which character would you most like to see brought back from the dead? Charlie, Kevin, John could make for some interesting stuff, Ruby could be fun…Rowen if she's really dead, um..yeah picking just one ain't gonna happen…

which character would you most like to punch? Metatron, hands down, no question.

who is your absolute favorite character? Sam..but with Dean, always with Dean, the brother relationship will always win out over an individual character.

which “big bad” do you think was the worst? If by 'worst' you mean one that I liked the least, then Metatron. In terms of scariest, 5th season Lucifer.

which character are you most like? Hmm, maybe Charlie for the over the top geekiness and the want of adventure? Bit of Sam with the whole younger sibling thing, touch of Donna with the bubbliness…

what death hit you the hardest? Possibly John's, watching it as it aired, with no idea it was coming. Ditto for Sam's death in AHBL, even though we were 99% sure it wasn't gonna take, at the time if I remember correctly, season 3 had not technically been confirmed so there was a sliver of a doubt.

what season finale hit you the hardest? Season 1, getting trucked, with absolutely no warning. I remember loud screams of WHAT?! all around. And then that summer wait was agonizing. I have a visceral memory of bouncing in my seat on the train home, getting funny looks from the Japanese around me,  thinking FINALLY, tonight tonight, Supernatural is back on tonight, and oh let season 2 be as good as season 1! And oh was it ever ^^

what are your ten all-time favorite episodes? Eheheeh, only TEN? In no particular order and with certainty I'm forgetting at least a few: Baby, French Mistake, Sacrifice, Red Meat, Swan Song, Mystery Spot, AHBL2, Fanfiction, Home, I Know What You Did Last Summer

who is your favorite angel? Probably Cas.

who’s your favorite demon? Crowley, though by the end he'd been kinda annoying me, but I do so love Mark Sheppard. Also actually really loved Ruby, because you just DID NOT KNOW what side she was on. Still sad they killed her, she could have been such a cool reoccurring antagonist.  

who’s your favorite evil character? ….5th season Lucy, especially Samifer. Also Demon!Dean, okay so the boys being evol is HOT, what can I say ^^

do you have any supernatural ships? Nope, except for maybe the totally crack ship of Sam/Rowena, mainly cause I think it'd be hilarious (particularly Dean and Crowley's reaction upon finding out)

who’s your favorite supporting actor? They are all so amazing, really can't choose. The amount of talent that comes together for the show, and the way they all bond, it’s just too wonderful.

what’s your favorite quote from the show? Depends, in terms of most quoted, it's either "You married fake Ruby?" or "'They do know we're brothers, right?' 'Doesn't seem to matter!'" in part cause both those lines crack our brother up, so @idontneedasymbol and I tend to say them around him.  In terms of OMG all the FEELS, between: "there's nothing past or present I would put in front of you", "I unleashed a force upon this world that could destroy it, to save you. And I'd do it again, in a second I'd do it again," "I'm not leaving you, ever." "This is my life, and I love it. But I can't do it without my brother, I don't want to do it without my brother..." I can't really decide, and the list just keeps growing. Really, in terms of OMG did they actually SAY that, are we sure this isn't actually fanfic?! this is show is the gift that keeps on giving ^^

if you could cast one famous actor in an episode of spn, who would you chose? Almost wanna see William Shatner in a role, no idea doing what, but the amount of twitter teasing he does to Misha and the boys amuses me.

if you could write your own episode, what kind of creature would you like to see included? Maybe something telepathic, can mess with their heads, sorta along the lines of the Djinn. Always do love seeing them have to battle their own psyches .

who’s your favorite girl that dean’s hooked up with? Hmm, maybe Lisa? Liked her, just always felt bad for her.

who’s your favorite girl that sam’s hooked up with? Ruby, because no matter how wrong it was (or perhaps because of the wrongness ^__-), it was so very veerrry hot (also I might have trouble sometimes separating the actors out on that one, cause these days every time I rewatch 4th season I'm just "awwww, Gen! XD" whenever Ruby appears ^^)

what are some of your favorite convention moments? Both the JIB7 & JIB8 hugs, cause c'mon, too cute! They way Jensen just cradles Jared’s head, d’wwwwww. Also in terms of hilariousness, the time Jensen just looked over and was truly baffled by the pretzel position Jared had contorted himself into and he was like "how are you even doing that?" and Jared was all "I'm bendy".

if you were going to guest star (or be a recurring guest star) on spn, how would you want your character described? Random innocent who's aware enough to run AWAY from stupid danger and lucky enough to be saved by the boys in the nick of time (though possibly just traumatized enough to snag a Sam-hug before I make it to safety ^^)

what do you hope to see in the next season? Sam being in trouble mentally/physically and Dean WORRYING/CARING for him. Also the boys continuing to be on the same page. And maybe them actually having some fun with this whole AU thing and using it as an excuse to bring back some characters, or really ALL the characters ^^

SPN Finale Thoughts

Please feel free to skip over this! I’m just all emotional and trying to get it out of my head by writing my thoughts out...I watched the finale once 12 hrs ago (and have slept badly after it) so there could be many mistakes here, and I will never pretend to be a meta writer... This is your ‘I am distressed and not in a great head space’ warning :-) 12x22 I thought was fantastic! I mean yeah there’s a couple of things I’d fix if I were being finicky, but it felt really right, was in character...the boys showed us that they have grown and the season’s themes were fulfilled and weren’t for nothing. I was left feeling pleased with it. I love love loved the boy’s convo when they’d given up breaking the wall down. They said what they meant, no lies, no pretending, laying it out. In fact they did that all episode (both, actually)....that’s some good shit! :D Also watching Dean’s expression changes as he thought of the grenade launcher plan was one of my highlights of the episode <3 I really liked Dean’s dialogue with Mary in the ‘dream-scape’...his “I hate you” made me gasp out loud, and yeah, when Dean cries we all cry.

So much brotherly hugging and wet eyes. Oh my boys, how I love you and how you love each other. Sam coming into his own, Dean supporting him 100%, the episode was gold just from those interactions <3 Dean acknowledging all the good they’ve done! Telling Mary he was Sam’s Mum and Dad, and it was too much! The lack of codependency! Jody's alive! Garth is alive! Donna is alive! Claire is alive! I am so pleased that Mary is a real, fleshed out character, and not just a plot device this season. Her survival is proof of that, too. I’ll be honest - when she was announced as being in S12, I thought they were going to mess it up :/ I mean, I don’t actually *like* her as a person, but she *is* a person on the show, thankfully. The shot of them (Sam, Dean, Mary) hugging, with Sam as the focus gave me life...he knows now that he can lead, he can be strong and not just follow anymore, his family has his back and gives strength even when they’re not right by him. OHhhh <3 <3 <3 12x23 I really, really disliked this episode, and not (just) for the last 10min of show. I felt the pacing was off, the camera angles sucked - in particular things like how we almost never saw Cas’ face front on but did Kelly’s, over and over and over. I felt like I was 3/4 of the way through the episode at one point, but when I paused it I was 8min in...it really dragged for me. I felt Cas and Crowley, in particular, were out of character (I’ll elaborate in a moment). I HATED how little a deal was made (music, face shots etc) of Crowley’s sacrifice. How he had Sam unprotected right next to him, Sam who has only just thanked Crowley for a little of what he’s done a few episodes ago, Sam who has tried to kill Crowley over and over again even when the circumstances didn’t call for it (eg after getting the first blade), but he didn’t even seem to think of him as an option for the required life taken - he’s obviously (to me) planned himself before even suggesting the spell; perhaps implied when sitting in the bunker pinned at the table? I hated how brushed over and vulgar Rowena’s death was, and Crowley’s response to it. She’s been in the show for awhile, is a strong female character, I should have guessed that her death would be as sucky as Eileen’s. Even grosser, really. The camera was barely on Crowley’s face when he learned of it, instead on Sam and Dean’s. Shouldn’t the emotional reaction be Crowley’s?? What the hell was the point of the last couple of season’s of them dancing around each other, trying to maybe establish something between them, then to end like that?! I’m hoping that was just that Crowley isn’t convinced of her death, and possibly was already considering his own (maybe not specifically, but him knowing that he’s backing the Winchesters, it’s a real possibility) I wasn’t surprised by but still hurt with what they’ve done with Lucifer’s character. He was AMAZING in season 5 - so fascinating and scary and compelling to watch. I know he’s become steadily a charactcature of himself since then, especially sped up by the writers not seeming to care/remember that Hallicifer isn’t actually Lucifer, and changing his character to be more like that. He’s had moments throughout season 12 where I could see the old Luci traits, but the overblown, over-sexualised (esp with the Demon who was working to free him, and the stupid Virgin line at the house with Kelly) crap they’ve done with him this season bites butt, and was kinda cringe-worthy. Considering how much I adore Luci (especially in fanfiction, rather than canon, where he can really be expanded upon) yet *I* was almost eye rolling at his dialogue, you know it’s bad. ALSO when has he been into disgusting murders??? Yes he likes to be hands on when attacking someone (or um, hand through, in the case of Baldur), that’s accurate to current and S5 Luci, but “stomped on her head until the white showed, then set her on fire to be sure” or whatever the quote is....ugh.no. And cutting some of her hair off, whyyyy? A momento? No.no.no. I haven’t decided if his lack of awareness of walking into a trap (the rip) was him not giving the boys enough credit (he did say about them trying whatever they were going to try but how it wouldn’t work) and him having such a big ego that he will always win (“I win, so, I win”), or actually him not being so bright. I’d normally think the first option, but he was *really* slow in the convo with the demon freeing him from Crowley in understand how the control had reversed, and I’m so offended with how they write him now, I’m unconvinced. I thought Cas’ dialogue was a bit weird and stilted (unintentionally) and his joke/reassurance to Kelly (”I lied, I have no idea how you feel”) and the nappy bit that was supposed to be humorous (haha look at silly Cas who doesn’t get human things and goes overboard, amirite?) wasn’t funny? It felt like a tacked on thing, written like they don’t really get Cas. Also why was he going through the rip, and then again casually with the boys, while Kelly was in labour? He said he’d be there for her and Jack, then wanders off leaving her unprotected, barring Mary, *twice*? Was he vowing to protect and be there then immediately risking his life another Cas/Dean parallel? Throughout both episodes Dean was super chatty (for him)! But it was awesome, because it meant healthy communication, and him reiterating that the family all together is what they’re about, it’s how they can do this. I’m guessing this will be talked about in 13x01, but where did Cas go between being thrown to the ground when Luci showed up, and then coming through the rip to hold Luci off? Part of the plan I know, but what was that plan?

Why did he come back through the rip when Luci wasn’t yet contained?

What happened in there that we didn’t see?

When going through the rip only one person needs to touch it to take them all through, yet the camera made a big deal of Luci grabbing Mary’s arm to pull her through with him?

Was it always the plan between Mary and Cas that she fight Luci back into the rip if needed? The boys obviously didn’t know.
