Alpenglow is really not a sad fic, it just has its moments. But it's so much better than the main fic overall so don't get too scared. Now I get to write the other side of Scar meeting Grian next :) the only reason I didn't jump right into that on the plane was that I needed to reference the main fic first, and it's a pain to open that document on my phone

Also HGTTG is becoming more of a thing slowly. I still only have a partial outline to chapter 4, but I have a lot more worldbuilding done. It's kind of a weird fic because it feels more like it's HGTTG flavored instead of an actual AU? Like it's drifted very far from the original inspiration source but has retained some tell-tale elements. I also still plan for it to be a comedy. It's like a funny time travel space travel story that randomly occasionally intersects with HGTTG things.

My current biggest issue with the HGTTG au is that by far the most fleshed out characters are Grian and Pearl, but they're not the main protagonists? This is supposed to be a Mumbo pov fic. Meanwhile I have a few hundred notes on Grian and Pearl and like 3 bullet points total on Mumbo...oops

on my flight yesterday i managed to a) write several hundred words more of prep on the hgttg au b) write about 300 words of another letters from the lookout oneshot i've had in the pipeline and c) write about 1000 words and finish the first scene of Alpenglow. which made me sad because it was a sad scene, but fortunately i get to immediately follow it up with a much better one lol

#it can't be a grian or pearl pov because it's hgttg which means we need an audience stand-in for the main protagonist #in the orignal books this is arthur who is the baffled human to ford's alienness #in doctor who terms this would also be the human companion to the doctor's time lord-ness #now idk if i'm going for the human vs aliens route on this story #as it's most common for hermitcraft members to be headcanoned as a variety of hybrids/species. so who's to say mumbo is a human here?#but mumbo & scar & impulse are all still playing the part of the 'normal' person audience stand-in for this story #while pearl and grian are playing the aliens/outsiders who are driving the story off the rails by being more than meets the eye #anyway! i have pretty extensive notes on them and their histories but little on the rest of boatem so far #i need to structure the story in a way where everyone has their Moment though #it's like a. quest type storyline and i'll need all boatem members to contribute their skills #so i have work to do for me because my outline up to chapter 4 doesn't even really get me into the meat of the story yet!#(i am planning on shorter chapters than firewatch au though)#pearl is actually the Most significant character in this story....in good ways and bad #i like to say that i fixed the story's plot by making her a cooler character :)
