ok but what if THIS time the act of creation is pointless because I fundamentally lack something ineffable that is required to make art that reads with clarity and impact and will never know it. so my every attempt is only received as muddled and pathetic in a way I cannot perceive or comprehend. what if THIS time that's true.

#complaining #more seriously I think I have gotten better at self-critique and evaluation in a lot of areas of my art #but still struggle with evaluating the like... aesthetic richness and consistency? I don't know how to frame it #in tailslide this is 'do the mad sciencey bits feel interesting and in-place enough in the world'#or 'do they feel unmemorable and tacked on and fail to enrich the story sufficiently'#this might be a slightly silly worry because i can point to works that have a similar balance of like #realism and not-realism in the setting that I really really like #(the dirk gently tv show in particular is absolutely an inspiration there)#but I don't know how to measure if *I* have it y'know #so i just Fret until I run out of energy and draw the stupid thing regardless of whether it achieves artistic transcendence #did i already tag this complaining tag this complaining
