i do really hate this tendency i see in a lot of people, whenever allegations are made against a public figure, to go "OH I ALWAYS KNEW THEY WERE BAD." regardless of how true those allegations are or if they're later disproved
like. idk i get it on some level, b/c people don't like to admit to feeling blindsided and it feels good to be "right," but nothing is gained except the smug satisfaction of being "right" and having perceived superiority over anyone who feels genuinely upset to hear about it. like, come the fuck on.
even if you did have a "feeling" that doesn't mean anything either, because at the end of the day you don't know anything about that person. unless they're someone you personally know and have interacted with, you can't say a damn thing about the veracity of any allegations. and even if you do know them, maybe you can't. but the point is that arbitrarily disliking someone's "vibes" doesn't mean you can be smug and superior if allegations ever come to light regarding them.
also it just feels shitty to me to respond to, for example, abuse allegations by going "oh well i always knew they were bad lol" like no i guarantee you didn't.
this doesn't really have a point, i'm just kinda thinking out loud rn haha.
