Looking for someone and immediately making oneself known to that someone upon finding them does not a stalker make... The point of Hua Cheng as contrasted with most of the other characters is that he respects Xie Lian's agency, his choices, his opinions. If Xie Lian had rejected him in Mount Tong'lu, that would have been the end of his advances.
Besides, Mu Qing and Feng Xin spend most of the novel openly disgusted by the idea that someone like Hua Cheng could have romantic feelings for Xie Lian, and that sentiment is strongly present in the cave of ten thousand Gods which makes their reaction even more skewed, and Xie Lian's refusal of it more poignant.
My unpopular TGCF opinion is that Hua Cheng was never a stalker and Mu Qing and Feng Xin were in the wrong to react that way in the cave of a thousand gods.
#sorry for the long addition but this is a pet peeve of mine#feng xin and mu qing are not good judges of character#in fact they've been shown repeatedly taking the “wrong” side in each and every interaction they have with Hong-er and later Hua Cheng#plus they generally treat Xie Lian like he's a naive sheltered young Prince#when he's never been naive (in that sense) ever in his life and especially after 800 years living as a beggar and street performer#to then xie lian is still the prince with a body worth a thousand gold whose face should be masked so the common people can't see it#xie lian has never been that person#even had he not been in love with Hua Cheng Xie Lian wouldn't have been disgusted by his desire#the only desire that disturbs him is his own
