this might be highly controversial but i have to roll my eyes a little at people who say they're basically an only child when they do have siblings and there's just a noticeable age gap. you're not like an only child, you're just a person with older (or younger, i guess) siblings. you'll always be able to have siblings in the world and know you have that family and those connections out there despite everything. the only time someone can actually fully understand what it's like emotionally to be an only child who have siblings are those whose siblings have actually passed away honestly.

#like it's not just about 'oh i was a bit lonely growing up wah sadness tears no one to play with'#i feel very alone in the world a lot of the time bc i literally know i have no connections out there #i will never have a sibling just existing out there a connection familiar or unfamiliar but out there and available in some way #cause you're not really alone you're family is right there even if you don't like them or don't talk with them much bc they're older #or younger or whatever #there's just that element of knowing that yall aren't really only children #in all honesty those who've lost their only sibling or siblings tragically have it the hardest bc they do know what they've lost #in a way they're doubly alone in the world compared to only children who have never had that comparison
