#✘; I HAVE SEVENTY TWO EXAMS AND I HAVE NOT STUDIED FOR ONE ( ooc )#rather than disrupting ppl's conception of her gender she is disrupting the conventions of the gendered space and i LOVE THAT for her#in a way i think. bainbridge's anger comes from not only her body as an unholy site ( she's not being ''natural'' in performing womanhood )#but the way it strips away the masculinity of the position as captain#i think before the encounter bainbridge is an example of someone who regards his status as conferring hyper masculinity and gives him#confidence in his gender#seeing a woman in the position of captain destabilizes that#SHE can't (or hasn't) had manhood conferred onto her. by extension – does his captaincy confer his manhood#no –– unless she dies (via sword stabbing. which has its own connotations)#and interesting also that she doesn't stab him. she barely grazes him. as an act of romance towards jack and (kind of) submission#to his wishes. which doesn't undermine her control of the situation so much as it again destabilizes the idea of what it means to be a#pirate captain in the masculine act of boarding + attacking + dueling#GOD she's so fucking interesting.
