actually, speaking of books but not in the notes, i was in the back looking at tuesday sos releases and saw that r. f. kuang's (babel, the poppy war) new novel, yellowface, is coming out on the 16th

and i am super curious to see what like the cnovel and kdrama and sea diaspora etc etc readers in my fandoms will think of it

interested to see xiranjayzhao's take especially

#after that horrific mess with the white chick writing from the 'perspective' of a mexican immigrant #from the publisher trying to brownwash her in her bio and articles to the barbed wire decir on the cake at her release launch #i just no longer trust publishers trying to be 'diverse'#but it's r.f. kuang and babel is genius so the people talking it up are likely correct #but i feel like the subject matter really does hit right at the crux of a lot of issues in especially #in “bl” webnovel and manga/manhwa/donghua fandoms where there's a growing tide of western/white/i-fans #even if she purely sticks to the workings of the american publishing industry i feel like #points about appropriation and proper crediting will still be very relevant within fandom
