U gave me freedm to rant, now I am nt gonna stop. So 'Bajirao Mastani', did u watch that? God I didnt watch it for 2 yrs after it released coz of the polygamy thing (I'm all for mutual polyamory), but man I weep for kashibai. Like that bajibitchrao legit told kashibai, "I hav never compared you both I love y'all the same" and im behind my lappy screen screaming "YOU ARE NOT FIT TO B A KING, FATHER, HUBBY you waste of space". Coz #Loyalty. And mastashitni? Don't eye a taken man, bitch?Thoughts?
hskshkshk like I said rant however!!!
Now I’m ngl, I’m a huge sucker for Deepika in contrast to Pr*yanka who I’m not fond of at all, so I was slightly biased during the whole movie and rooting for Deepika’s character. However, if I view it from a neutral lens, then I adored Kashibai with my whole heart. She was so kind and mature during the whole situation even though she was hurting so so much.
What Bajirao did to her was unforgivable, yet she loved him. She forgave and loved Mastani as a sister. She handled becoming the woman that ‘wasn’t’ enough for her husband with such grace, I cry. She was an angel and she deserved so much better.
On Rao’s end, unlike his family he is a traveler. A solider, an alpha or whatever. He’s seen many enemies and allies - Hindus and Muslims alike. He’s even given the title of Peshwa at such a young age, so this man obviously thinks of himself as ‘better’ than other men. That’s probably why he thinks he could do whatever the fuck he wants. And he wins every battle too? Imagine a man like that ever thinking he could make the wrong move💀
oh Mastani, she was so sweet yet ignorant. Because of her upbringing and strange attachment to Rao, she committed stupid ass sins sigh. Anyway, she was born to a Muslim mother and considers herself as so. Because the culture allows consensual polygamy, she probably never saw anything wrong with marrying him. Even her own mother was a consort, meaning her father had many wives and he was still a good, loving man. So in her mind, she thought it was possible to have multiple wives and give each of them the love and respect they deserve.
The only thing she failed to consider, were the feelings of the ‘other wife’ Kashibai, but then again she never thought she had to because in that time it was up to the men.
But the thing about Bajirao Mastani is that it’s a tragic story. In the end, their own infidelity was their downfall. Bajirao’s death occured because of stress - because first he knew who his enemies were, but now there are enemies of his in his own family, because that family wouldn’t accept his other wife and son, whatsoever (and he learned they were both captured as soon as he left), because Kashibai who he still claimed to love could obviously never forgive him, because the multiple battles and pressure on his shoulders took a toll on him, and so he was left exhausted and beaten. His death was pretty gruesome if you ask me. His own masculinity and impulse to do things without thinking (such as marrying Mastani) caused his brain to snap at the end which ultimately led to his death.
It was like that for Mastani as well, who I thought received the most fitting punishment. She stood in that chamber in those chains for days. Her son was snatched away from her and she was left without food or water and all by Kashibai’s oldest son no less. It was Mastani facing her sins in those chains. That’s what that was.
In the end, Kashibai reigned. And that’s what happens when you are honest, graceful, mature and loving😌 She was an angel and she deserved no less. SLB once again blew it out of the waters with this version of the tale. It was amazing to watch.
