something difficult about writing/storytelling but only in short disconnected bursts is that writing anything longform is very difficult. there isn't as much time to practice long-term character development or subtlety (implying character instead of immediately clarifying) when its not really meant to go anywhere but a notes app. its a little frustrating...i'd love to do something more longform though. i've considered maybe just doing some short writing scenes in my various original universes a lot recently mostly because i just havent had time to draw anything fancy recently </3 maybe that would be something...

your number one favorite youtuber was alexis quackity. you related to him in many different ways. he made you laugh on days you weren’t doing too well. he meant a lot to you, even if you didn’t know him personally and it was all most likely just an internet personality.

still, you found yourself talking about his latest let’s talk streams or even his random tweets. you loved having a community of online mutuals that felt the same way about quackity.

halfway across the country, alexis sat cross-legged on the floor of his cluttered apartment, surrounded by a sea of empty takeout boxes and energy drink cans. his eyes were glued to the computer screen, the glow from the monitor reflecting off his square-rimmed glasses. his mouse hand hovered over the keyboard, poised to respond to the endless stream of comments that flooded his youtube channel. his thumbs danced across his phone, scrolling through the notifications that seemed to never end.

it had been a wild ride for alexis since he started streaming games and posting videos under the moniker 'Quackity'. the fame had come quickly, and with it, the adoration of millions of fans around the globe.

sometimes alex would take the time and look through his community of devoted fans. he would use throwaway accounts to simply be unknown for once and just see what there was out there.

his fans were so unbelievably talented. many of them were amazing artists making portraits of him or even writing songs for him. some were even exceptional writers and the fanfiction stories he’d come across were actually pretty good.

amidst the digital chaos, one fan seemed to stand out from the rest. y/n, with her username 'Y/NIsNotHere', had caught his attention with her thoughtful comments and unyielding support. He clicked on her tumblr profile, and there it was: a fan account dedicated solely to him.

her profile was a shrine to his digital persona, filled with meticulously edited gifs, screenshots from his streams, and heartfelt notes about how his content had changed her life. Alexis felt a strange mix of flattery and curiosity. he hovered over the 'send message' button, his heart racing with excitement.

what did she look like? what was her voice like? would she be as amazing as she seemed? with a deep breath, he typed out a simple hello.

granted, he was using a secret throwaway tumblr account so he didn’t expect for an immediate response. and yet, the response still came rather quickly.

Hey anon, I understand where you coming from. And I really appreciate you trying to understand better.

To be really honest, why things have blown up now is because of the upcoming tour. It’s not really about why they couldn’t go to the other continents when they’re planning to do 32 shows in US, even though that’s also fishy af cause they could’ve easily dipped into Mexico, and the route they using feels like they’re avoiding latam specifically. The way that they handled this with poc fans is the problem, because while they’re being excited from the tour or whatever, they have not once tried to explain why they couldn’t go to poc fans (or the majority of us that is. Some of us might live somewhere else.)

The way they keep retweeting and being hyped about the tour, while basically intentionally avoiding talking to us is just.. it hurts. Most of us complain about this, and even more expressing how they just need dnp to give them an explanation. But never once did they do it. Instead, they even launch more trailer lol. And I know they saw it, there’s a lot of us and they like snooping on social media anyway. It makes us feel like we’re not part of the tour, that it wasn’t meant for us. And it was actually the first time I questioned if I was really a part of this community at all.

Turning back to phandom with that state of mind, it can feel like everyone is abandoning you. Because just like dnp, everyone is only talking about the tour, and not about how this exclusion needs to be addressed. It’s understandable why people would feel angry when they just keep being ignored like their voices didn’t matter. But I know now, just because people didn’t interact with me, doesn’t mean they didn’t want to be there for me. We just might come from a different place. (Btw, if you’re western and you have poc friends who’s affected by this, please reach out to them. The reason why I’m still here rn is because of all my friends, western friends included, saying they’ll be there for me throughout this racism thing. They might be angry and hurt, and even assume the worst of you. And I won’t ask more than you can do. But saying you understand (or at least empathize the situation they’re in) and that you will support them no matter what, will help them a lot.)

Dan clearly carry a micro aggression around latam, and the fact that this still occur in wad really says a lot about how they’ve not grown from that. When dan said brazil and mexico were 3rd world country on was, that makes us feel like he’s looking down on us. And the fact that they have avoided latam specifically without giving any reason why they couldn’t go, well, there’s only so many things you can assume is happening under the surface. This makes us feel like they’re looking down on us, and that they’ve never seen their poc fans as equals.

The reason why the old stuff was brought up is because this isn’t the first time this has happened. Dan has made a lot of racist remarks, and while it’s understandable to slip up from time to time, and even more understandable why he might be afraid to actually apologize and own things up, it doesn’t excuse the patterns that are being repeated here. When he doesn’t take accountability to his past mistakes and keep repeating the patterns of racism and exclusion, that indicates he’s going to keep oppressing us forever without ever acknowledging it. And THAT is not okay.

We don’t want to cancel them, never once do we want that. We only want dnp to hear us and actually talk to us about this. They are not beyond redemption, but it’s going to be hard for them to open up considering the past fifteen years of them not doing that. So the only thing we can do at this point is to be more opened up about their racist remarks. We’re bringing up past mistakes now, because there’re still a lot of people who have been affected by this, and them not bringing it up is not going to make all that hurt go away. So I suggest, we should bring it up, not to cancel them or demonize them! But to acknowledge it exists so that we can heal from it. We can learn to love dnp despite being flawed, and normalize how to take accountability to make this place safer for poc. These voices can’t be avoided because that’s also a form of exclusion in this community. I want everyone to feel welcomed here, so I’ll listen to their voices when they need it. That way, there will be a place for poc to belong in this space. We can learn to include each other in, or at least I hope so :3

im sure its been talked about already but what i particularly love abt isat is the way it incorporates culture and language with one's sense of identity. theres honestly a LOT i could say on that matter mostly because i take interest in depictions of fictional languages (even if they are not directly shown to the player) but i think ill hold back from going full-rogue with those thoughts now. i think its so fun to see a fantasy video game that indicates the existence of more than 1-2 languages (where in some cases the second language is some ancient one too) it feels extremely refreshing to be directly told there are multiple languages, as well as acknowledging the existence of accents!

from what i understood while playing, everyone shown in game is speaking in vaugardian. there exist dialects of it, given mirabelle and isabeau's accents differ from bonnies. in turn, this confirms to us that odile and siffrin are bi/multilingual. and i dont know, but the way talks of language and accents was presented in dialogue made me feel really excited because its just something that was treated so casually in the text. again its not often you encounter this stuff in video game stories! not to mention pulling this off without even needing to invent a fictional language to show the players!

and of course my favorite aspect of this is the way language affects siffrin in particular. (spoilers & some speculation under cut)

i dont think i need to go into detail how the disappearance of their country affected siffrin. however, the loss of language is the aspect that especially grabs me because there is an implication that the party, and siffrin especially, are not aware of.

you know how they forget words sometimes? his native language got deleted from his memory, so this means he would have trouble working words out together. thats mostly because ppl generally think in one language without being aware of it.

and even if siffrin picked up on vaugardian quickly, keep in mind that they would probably never know vaguardian the same way they knew their native language. and that's because i think his brain unconsciously is still "thinking" in the forgotten language. for example, if you cant recall the word for "stuffed animal" in your native language, what are the chances of remembering it in your second language, which you had to pick up on in the wake of being alone and with no memory of your home? it's actually notable when you try to interact with certain objects in the pottery room in act 5, for example! (does not help that they are also having a really bad time)

sif's case is unique as a bilingual speaker, so i sadly dont feel equipped talking more on it. however, i want to specify that i dont think the loss of language is the ONLY factor contributing to sif's memory problems. moreso that its one of the multiple ingredients that got added in his brain as a result of the country being deleted, essentially

Like of fucking course those two would work together when Sukuna deeply does not care about any social rules to ever exist. Of course they do when Gojo is confronted with someone gay for him and not hiding behind anything. This is not survivable and i love them and care them. I even had written in the notes for my fic about Gojo being the person who generally prefers to keep things as they are but i couldnt actually formulate why i think that. You are so smart your analysis is so wonderful

This is also why I like Sukugo a lot. It's not just that Sukuna matches Gojo's freak, he enables it. Encourages it even. Makes it worse. Sukuna's existence is a twisted opposition to Jujutsu Society. It's very hedonistic, sadistic, and selfish but by golly it is rebellion.

The flattery is also appreciated, but please understand that I am very stupid and am capable of making mistakes. Alternate perspectives like yours are just as valuable. Which is why I'm shoehorning your tags on this post into this ask. (They are great tags and everyone should see them. Also I don't know how to respond to them otherwise.)

That's a fair criticism and even better commentary. I understand the aversion to some of the words I'm using to describe this. It's just that I don't know how else to effectively communicate what I think is the main issue. I do appreciate you're willing to hear me out on this though! (You're applying Umineko's "Without love, it cannot be seen." which makes me very happy.)

I'm US based which is a hypercapitalist hellscape, so when I talk about socialism it doesn't mean "do exactly what the Soviet Union did" (that would be very bad) but instead some of the ideas behind workers rights are good and desperately needed to curb stomp the type of labor exploitation they're experiencing. (Like unions for better pay, hours, and working conditions.)

Theory is useful because it give you the words to describe exactly what's wrong and the ideas that can guide you towards productive solutions. I can say Jujutsu Society is bad because of labor exploitation from the higher ups and therefore unions would help mitigate their power because I learned about those things.

Gojo and Geto don't have those words or background so they see part of the problem but have no name for it. And because they don't understand why it's happening, their solutions are surface-level treatments that don't address the real source of their suffering.

Toji was a symptom of the problem. Geto saw Toji as the entire problem so he thinks eradicating anything like Toji is the solution. Gojo saw Toji as a symptom and a potential solution to the real problem—Jujutsu Society. He recognized that Toji being strong is what helped him escape this problem so he laser focused on it. If he and his students are strong, they can change things. What things exactly? Gojo doesn't have the knowledge or time to dwell deeper on it. To him strength=revolution. He neglects the need for mutual aid, addressing overwork, and limiting child labor because the words and framework to deal with that are missing.

Gojo can't really do anything other than keep things the sameish because he doesn't know how the better world he's seeking works. (Similar to how you recognized this flaw of his, but couldn't put it into words since you didn't have them.) He both does things better for his students and screws them up in whole new different ways as a result of this. It's very tragic.

And everything wrong with Jujutsu Society is still just a microcosm of Japanese work culture that leads to this exploitation in the first place. Nanami is the only character that makes this connection and he has no idea what to do about it other than work where he feels less bad about it.

It's kind of like knowing a grease fire is dangerous but not knowing how to put it out.

Fun fact: the book is not just supposed to be a fantasy of our world, it’s the 1516 novel Utopia by Thomas More. Hence More’s name, the name of the king, Hythlodaeus (from Raphael Hythlodaeus, the narrator of the book), and the name of More’s cat, Plateau (from Plato’s The Republic, as Raphael discusses Plato within the novel). There are a lot of other references to the novel within the game and its lore. That part in the Memorandum where it mentions that slave classes exist as punishment for crimes, for example, is something straight from Utopia. The word “utopia” actually entered people’s lexicons from More’s novel, as he used it for the name of his fictional country. From the start, this More is very much inspired by the real one. They were both arrested for treason, locked up by the king in a tower, and apparently executed. (No clue how he’s still alive but I guess I’ll find out.) The game points out flaws in the ideology of the in-universe utopian novel, as well as More’s novel, though it’s less obvious if you’re unfamiliar with the contents of the book.

ahhh i knew about the thomas more connection but i didn't know about the rest of this! i haven't read utopia (although maybe i should one of my textbooks this semester has a couple excerpts from it i think) but i figured there must be references to it i was missing w/plateau especially bc that is so specific of a name to NOT be a reference lol. and yeah i read that part of the memorandum too and i was honestly so shocked bc i didn't remember that being discussed anywhere else? i do wish they'd brought it up before that, but maybe they will later since im also still playing through (about. 50 hours in now according to steam. God Damn. story wise ive just finished the dragon temple).

i did like the bits where the characters talk about the novel in universe and sometimes critique it. esp with heismay's critique that (iirc that was like 20 hours of gameplay ago LMAO) that the novel doesn't provide a way for the weak to protect themselves. its a really good way of showing both the characters and their ideologies and what the book presents as a utopia. i don't remember where this quote came from (may have been an episode of kill james bond? in my head i remember november saying this but who knows) i remember hearing someone say when critiquing a work of art you also reveal a part of yourself and the game shows that with what each character focuses on when they read the book, like [REDACTED SPOILER] focusing on art and [REDACTED SPOILER] focusing on religion.

im really excited to see where the game is going with all of this. like ive said before i don't have like, a TON of faith in atlus's writing, but i really really hope they stick the landing for this because so far the writing is really good.

I finally finished both mcl new gen episodes (kind of long post about my opinions and feelings)

Tbh I wasn't so sad about the old mcl coming to an end because I think when armin was removed back in hsl it just prepared me for whatever could come next LMAO. I am a big fan of Jason and Amanda, the rest of the Li's... are there I guess ! I think the new point system is kind of weird and overcomplicated for no reason, I really don't like the fact that we have to pay AP's for dialogue and clothes because I can either buy more clothing/recolors and be satisfied with how my character looks or save up for the new episodes... and the fact that you can't buy AP with money, only the blue hearts that can be traded for AP? (not to mention that the prices went up comparing to go mcl at least in my country) But you also need the blue hearts for those special moment with LI's every ep... like idk its sad that there is a part of content you can miss out because you simply don't want to spend money every time an ep is here lol. The missions (which is basically the eldarya expeditions) are fine since we get clothes for that. The calendar is a nice touch up because it's something new and refreshing. But the paid part and vip subscription and the clothes offers in the shop are the next thing that don't seat well with me.... Like we could get a little more for that price... especially since it rounds up to 120 dollars per year... And the fact that all the cute outfits are locked behind a daily shop rotation that have to use real money on... Oh and the last on the more negative side why does our uncle only give stuff for our fuckass goose.... We love you Taki but it's not that serious we could get like a t-shirt... or smth...

On the positives, I really like the fact that our Candy can have a personality now! Like finally we aren't a blank page that adjusts to the people we talk to and we can have opinions AND THEY MATTER! Also the clothes are much cuter, like finally someone thought - yes u can be an adult and have fun clothing and not dress boring! We love that! And I giggled to myself a little when I read why Candy switched her job lol. Reminder me of Eric's arc Eric we love you forever idc about what other said about your route.

At the end of the day I think I will try the vip for one month just to see is it really like worth it for someone who is going to be rather active on this game. Idk im excited for the plot tbh and especially how much it changes depending on the fact if we romance the Devenementiel LI's or Jason.

[13/8/24] i skipped work bc i was flying across the country to visit my parents lol. i love flights so much; im so excited to sit at the window!

so i didn't download an emotionally charged show like i usually do for the journey which meant i actually ended up doing some calculations on the plane as well. (calculations not pictured) it's bad when u start doing work for fun, so i also read a good fraction of my fave fic ever (i forgot how GOOD it was.)

the first photo is the NYC skyline, and the third is a view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains I think (?). My flight map was not working so this guess is based on the topography and timing of the photo. I was really hoping for a good shot of the Rockies proper but it was pretty cloudy then :(. I love the Rockies; I'd love to visit someday! I love looking at mountains from the plane bc everything looks so textured.

anyway, that's enough yapping about topography. i talked too much about my location than i thought i would drop. ill be back at campus soon enough and im supposed to be working this week too.

("this is my first drink" that one). well, a teacher!ross wedding date blurb is a need. it's the wedding of a colleague, it's summer, you're in your dress, he's loving it. it's warm and beautiful and the love is palpable, not just between the bride and groom. i feel like he'd get really emotional and as they exchange vows, he's thinking about what he'd say to you one day. he's drunk on more than the celebratory drinks, he's drunk on the atmosphere of love. in my head, he loves love, he loves a wedding, there's something about him thats just so wedding date. like he was made for weddings. I ALREADY KNOW YOU'LL ABSOLUTELY SLAY THIS. IM EXCITED.

If there's anything I love, it's that one specific video of Ross and a wedding, so this concept is dreamy! Also, this has ended up really long, I'm so sorry lol.

Like you said, it's of your colleague's weddings, and you've been so excited for it! I think it's down south in a big country house, gorgeous fields and scenery surrounding it. It's the peak of summer, a hot August day, and the sun is just beaming down all day. The two of you have booked to stay the night before the wedding, as well as the night of, so you get the car loaded up, Ross' suit laid over the back seats, and you drive down together. As mentioned, it's a colleague's wedding, and I think it's someone both of you really get along with. You've met his soon-to-be wife many times as well, so it's so lovely for you to watch him get married!

The wedding ceremony itself is gorgeous. There's a huge flower arch, everyone having the best time and spirits are high. You look so beautiful in your dress - in my mind, it's satin and a sage green colour, perfect against your newly tan skin from the vacation the two of you had just got home from. Your hair is perfect, your make up is so glowy, little cream-coloured heels giving you a bit of added height. Ross loves it. The second you put it on, he couldn't stop running his hands over your hips in the slippy material, constantly holding onto you in some way. You can't stop looking at him either - he looks exactly how he does in that video, the navy of his suit perfectly complementing your dress. You were a bit flustered when he first put the suit on in the hotel room that morning, and he 100% noticed and loved it.

You're sat waiting for the bride to arrive, the string quartet playing one of the couple's favourite songs, and it's just so bloody lovely. You're holding his hand in your lap, admiring the decorations and all of the guests' outfits, but his eyes are fixed on you. You meet his gaze and he's smiling at you, lovesick just like you said in the ask, and it's like you can read his mind. Don't get me wrong, all you can think about is when this is your turn too, but the look on his face makes you dream about it even more.

The bride arrives and the ceremony begins, and I totally agree that he gets emotional at the vows! They've written their own, and they're both so lovely and sentimental, and he immediately starts to wonder what he's going to say to you one day. You squeeze his hand, whispering a little 'you okay?' with a smile, smiling even wider when he gives you a nod and brings your hand to his mouth, pressing a kiss there. They walk back down the aisle and like you said, the love is palpable! Although the wedding has been beautiful, Ross hasn't really paid much attention to anything else other than the way your face lit up at the sight of it all. He imagines you in a white dress, how you'd smile at him when you're stood hand in hand at the altar, how it's all he wants.

After the ceremony, you're all having glasses of champagne and chatting away as the bride and groom have pictures, maybe talking with some of your other work friends that were also invited. There's music playing, the sound of laughter and conversation everywhere, and you can't help yourself when you hold onto his arm, resting your head on him. He looks down at you with an 'I love you', kissing you gently. The reception is gorgeous, the drinks are flowing, you're all having the loveliest day. He gets on like a house on fire with everyone sat at your table, and it makes you fall even more in love with him, the way he laughs at the terrible joke someone makes and is so attentive when asking about people's careers and whatnot. He's bringing you drinks whenever he sees your glass empty, dragging you to the dance floor when his favourite songs come on, and he is just the absolute best wedding date, just like you said! When the bride and groom have their first dance, you lean back in your chair so you're resting against him, and you tear up. He hears you sniffle and presses a few kisses to the exposed skin on your shoulder. You have a bit of a slow dance yourselves later, and he just says it - "I can't wait until it's our turn.". You immediately get all sappy, replying with "I can't wait, either.".

When the party's over and everyone's said their goodbyes, you head up to your hotel room. You're so exhausted from the day, but in the best way possible. Your feet hurt from dancing and your cheeks actually ache from smiling all day, so you just throw yourself dramatically onto the huge bed when you get there. Ross helps you take your shoes off, holding your ankle and undoing the straps as you giggle at him looming over you, perhaps a little drunk - if your eyes could have hearts in them, they would. "I love you so, so much, Ross.". You're laid in the middle of the bed, hair sprawled out and your dress coming down your thighs as you lay with your feet up, and he can't not look at you. Your eyes are shut, and I think maybe he has to tear his eyes away from you before he starts getting emotional lol. You open them as he starts unbuttoning his shirt, walking around the room with it open, your cheeks hot as you hold yourself up with your forearm in a tipsy attempt to look sexy. He laughs at you as you giggle, wondering how it's possible to love someone this much.
