danny phantom 14-20 thoughts!! I finished up s1 :D these last few eps were actually really really good!!!

-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...

-danny really isn't pulling punches when it comes to fighting the ghost-cop possessed people huh. like he SLAMMED KWAN INTO THE CONCRETE SO HARD. HE THREW PAULINA INTO A BILLBOARD. will that...I mean it WOULD carry over to their bodies non-possessed, right? like if the ghost piloting their bodies gets hurt?? itd be so upsetting to be possessed, lose time, then wake up covered in bruises (and possibly, broken bones??) real horror movie stuff im sure wont be addressed in any way

-tuckers parents seem nice! I like them :)

-WULF IS CUTE AND I FEEL BAD. im so glad the gang realized he was only causing trouble bc of the shock collar walker put on him and helped. also, him wearing that big hoodie with the hood on, and thinking its subtle. we can tell youre still a giant wolfie :) THEN GETTING SUCKED INTO THE PORTAL AAAAH :( anxiously waiting to see Him Again....

-DANNY BLASTING HIS PARENTS THINKING THEY WERE OVERSHADOWED LMFAO GET THEIR ASSES. maddie marking how many ghosts she gets with lipstick tallies on the side of her portal gun? kindaaa iconic tho. (ALSO, SHE WAS LIKE, 2 FT AWAY FROM HIM RIGHT AFTER SHE TRIED TO SHOOT HIM. HOW DO YOU NOT RECONINZE YOUR OWN SON??? like sure, he might have diff hair/eye colors. but like, if one of my family members dyed their hair, and was wearing contacts, its not like id be like 'wHO IS THIS STRANGER!!!' ...he still has all his facial features!! same everything!!! I hate it here)

-paulina being #1 girl realizing danny's a friendly ghost immediately. smart queen. lancer and kwan ran away right after he made this sweet baby face at them:

-ok. im not saying his bullying is JUSTIFIED, but. dash looked so pleased with the (cute!) poster he just painted, and danny comes thru the wall and spills paint on his nice letterman jacket. his anger is justified maybe 65% of the time so far...(not the way he handles it, but STILL.) at least lancer is stepping in!! and them making a silly little bet was...cute?? until dash pulled out his GROSS UNDERWEAR AND SAID DANNY WOULD HAVE TO EAT THEM???? WHAT THE FUCK MAN. TUCKER WAS SO RIGHT ITS FUCKING WEIRD TO CARRY THOSE AROUND EWWW. THIS KID IS UNWELL. lancer was right, his animatronic setup was SUPER IMPRESSIVE?? hes actually pretty creative. danny meanwhile is stealing the fright knight's design...I hope dash is taking art classes or smth with his sports

-fright knight is the most bestest ghost so far i LOVE THAT DESIGN. I am biased towards knights, and characters with swords, but he fucks so severely. and should sue danny for copyright infringement for stealing his design for his haunted house. if some 14 yr old broke into MY house and stole MY sword, id also be pissed. his evil winged unicorn rules too with its FANGS. and he just CAN SHOVE THE PORTAL OPEN WITH HIS HANDS??? is he the strongest ghost weve seen so far? idk but hes my fav. SOUL SHREDDER IS SUCH A COOL SWORD NAME TOO. ANY NAMED SWORD ALSO FUCKS. 'flaming bedsheets of DEATH' funny king. ALSO he was polite to dash and tucker when just asking for directions and telling tucker 'oh maybe, just a suggestion, maybe be nicer to me and be more respectful :)' I LOOOVE HIM.

-I noticed this in the Ember ep, but jazz has an electric guitar in her room!! talent musical queen!! its cool to see hobbies just in the bg.

-fright knight's murder castle reminds me of the booby trapped murder castle in zexal!! another supposedly 'for kids' show with murder/trap castles! we love that. if you are a dp fan reading this, give yugioh zexal a try. its also got 13-14 year old protags and involves (alien) ghosts. the cardgame is just a vessel for the plot, which is really good. (I just want more people to watch my fav yugioh, man)

-danny. with a SWORD.

-danny doesnt NEED TO WIN this contest, dash didnt STEAL HIS DESIGNS AND STEAL A SWORD. he also got excited to hear lancer got sent to a dimension with his worst fears too just so he could win the contest? DANNY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! BRO MAYBE YOURE 14 AND HAVENT FULLY DEVOLPED YOUR WHOLE BRAIN YET, BUT...THATS FUCKED. this kid casually says the most deranged things, I do worry for my spooky son. once again, therapy needed. that judo toss was great tho. I wonder if he actually did pick up some martial arts stuff from his mom?

-danny can fly 112 mph!!! thats so fast! I love the lil montage of him and his friends testing his abilities and stuff, very cute and a good way to showcase what he can do by now and how much more proficient he's gotten from ep 1!!! I'm sure he's going to get more abilities :)

-im glad...maddie's at least TRYING this ep. I do feel for her because her husband is a man baby. but the fact it took 16 episodes to get a kinda semblance of any kind of real concern or attempts at bonding. hmm. jack's 'BACK OFF SHES A MINOR' @ the ghost trying to attack jazz. also was very funny. and him wanting to make an action figure of her? are the parents redeeming themselves to me? slightly. they gotta Work Harder

-THE GHOST. IS FLYING. THE PLANE.

-fenton machete. but she doesnt carry a PHONE??? ???

-I mean I expected vlad when you namedrop him earlier in the ep, and also the title card picture, and dalv corp being fucking vlad backwards. but seeing him just pull up on a golf cart made me bust out laughing. WITH the gift baskets prepared. why wouldnt you at least be suspicious. also, if he wants danny to be his lil sonboy, why is he so fucking malicious?? dude you are going about this in such a bad way. stop it. get some help.

-maddie not even hesitating to drag danny out. fucking good. danny is so right, go on the internet to date. get a cat. how do you spend...how many years?? has it been since college?? at least 20, right, since the parents/vlad are in their 40s? hung up on ONE girl. my god, man. incel drama queen. her kung fu IS impressive, but dude. 'we both know hes a creep' SO right. it sucks but they do need a phone and shit being in the middle of NOWHERE. also, just stealing his helicopter was great. <3

(which is sad hes that hopeful, like you have SO MUCH MONEY YOU COULD EASILY GET ANOTHER GIRL WHO HAS A KID. AND WOULD WANT TO BE WITH YOU AND BE SUPPORTED. GET OVER THIS (1) WOMAN ALREADY IM GETTING SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT AAAAH)

-GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR GHOST BEAR. it was also in the title card, but I still got very excited. we love bears here

-SAM'S BAT SWIMSUIT COVERUP!!! her outfits are simply iconic.

-'i'd tell you to go to the mens room, but I don't think you qualify' top paulina transphobic moments. :( and him wearing a tanktop to the swim park? hmmm! (actually I think she was overshadowed by then, so, KITTY top 10 transphobic moments??)

-kitty just piloting paulina around makes me feel SO bad tho, paulina's gonna wake up and be like 'wtf do you mean I was dating this rando' like youre leading danny on to make johnny jealous, and also just POSSESSING POOR PAULINA. dude take your relationship problems ELSEWHERE. last time we saw them, they seemed like such a cute couple!! wtf johnny!! I mean, she sucks for trying to make him jealous, he sucks for looking at other girls...maybe they need a break, but Not Like This. or, you know, just. better communication...

-and the A-listers having a full packet and a stamp system. who organizes this. kwan fucking owning being the new danny though, this is hysterical. THE TUCKER/KWAN FLOWER FIELD TWIRL. UNIRONICALLY ADORABLE. and him giving it his all for the poetry slam. bless his HEARTTTT.

-Star owns. actually, all of the extra characters are shining this ep and I love it.

-INVISO-BILL??? NOOOO THEY DID HIM SOO DIRTY. DANNY SWEETIE IM SO SORRY.

-johnny and danny bein friends and staging a fake fight (which danny takes too seriously, once again this child has aggression he NEEDS TO WORK OUT) I hope these three stay friends, I said it before but danny needs more friendly ghosts to hang with.

-at this point, Danny's ghost enemies are a lot like, I dunno, batman's rouge gallery is the first thing that comes to mind. they all have their own gimmick and unique designs, but most of them are easy to beat after learning the Moral Lesson. I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. I'm gonna put my opinion out there. valerie/danny > sam/danny. maybe I just really love the enemies to lovers trope. And the secret identity stuff adds Extra Flavor.

-SKULKER JUST HAVING THE BOX GHOST AND DANGLING HIM BY A STRING. HILARIOUS. and him watching them with binoculars and making his silly little commentary. AND MAKING THE SACK BABY CRY. LMAO. THIS DUDE IS A BABY KIDNAPPER. skulker is super fun

-danny, you just...collapsed the water tower. and then attacked the nasty burger machine...mascot thingy...out of anger..I KEEP SAYING HE'S GOT ANGER ISSUES BUT. HE REALLY NEEDS A LESSON IN MANAGING COLLATERAL DAMAGE!!! So does valerie!! They're both pretty focused on each other. I mean it's good of Danny to say he's trying to make sure PEOPLE don't get hurt, but... (I mean I guess it's not something 14 year olds WOULD worry about, but as an adult im like, who's going to fix that? how much money will that take??)

-TUCKER MAKING BANK. and sam and tucker being super emotionally attached to their flour baby and being pretty good parents. that's cute...also him just straight kissing her and being like. WAIT. O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect

-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls

-me when I realize vlad's big stupid house exploded because of his own carelessness with changing the ghost portal ectofiltrator or whatever: *pointing and laughing*

-me when I realize it means he's gonna go make danny's life hell for it somehow: >:(

-SCOOBY PARODY!!! I feel like there's gotta be some scooby doo/danny phantom crossover stuff, right? also, 'guys in white' men in black wishes

-'oh, that's right! dad married the love of your life! you're bitter and alone!' DANNNNNYY GET HIS ASS ONCE AGAIN WE ARE POINTING AND LAUGHING AT VLAD

-'jack, you captured the ghost boy!!' UMM. he did nothing <3 'we have a weapon's vault??' YOU HAVE A WEAPONS VAULT??? and jack didnt put a handle on the inside. of fucking course he didnt! why would you leave that to your son!! or expect him to clean YOUR LAB when its where you work with probably dangerous chemicals and weapons and hes 14!! give him normal chores, like, I dunno, vacuuming, laundry, dishes...CMON. I hate it here. But I'm glad Jack is more chill about danny while he's a ghost, and willing to work with him for this ep. AND. I DID ENJOY JACK PUNCHING VLAD IN THE FACE. AND GENERALLY JUST OWNING HIM. the ghost punchy fists are actually amazing. like yeah, just punch a ghost in the face. that rules.

-ep 20 opens with the coolest fucking ghost lady design. her tattoos can come off and fight. MA'AM. I like ur nose ring and your cape maam hello 👉👈😳

-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.

-'my family has controlled ghosts with this for generations!' WAIT. WAIT FREAKSHOW /ISNT/ A GHOST? I didn't expect that...he's just a fucked up guy controlling ghosts? anyway watching danny shoot at police cars and rob banks while mind controlled. its like, the most stereotypical 'bad' things lmao. (tbh an evil ghost circus troupe is a sick concept)

(I'm going to assume evil circus reaper danny has a lot of fan content. people love an edgy au, except this one is canon (even tho its via mind control...having the protag go evil otherwise might be hard, I guess?) but au where he stays with the troupe...that has to exist, right?)

ANYWAY. excited to start s2!! lowkey surprised by how many notes some of these posts have gotten. Hello! I like your TWDG art and I'm curious if the Final Season was your first exposure to TWDG series? What do you think of the series overall, if you've played them? Any favourite characters outside of S4? I personally stopped playing the games after S2 left me severely disappointed, I think S1 will always be the best of them.

my first exposure to twdg was actually when the demo dropped for the first season!! yea ive secretly been here the Whole Time lmao i didnt play it myself tho i watched my friend play. it was the first time i had been exposed to the telltale choice game kind of format and i didnt really know how to feel about it so i didnt pick it up for myself i just watched others play. it took me a while to catch up and i didnt finish the first season until after s2 ended

the end of season one, like with most people, left me like.....really super heart broken and emotional like man i was Empty inside ahah that ending still and always will get me just Right in the fuckin heart meat. so, feeling as empty as i did and wanting to know where clems story went i jumped Right into season 2 ............ and that left me even More fuckin empty and sad than season 1 lmao fuckin season 2 is probably The most depressing season imo i didnt think i could feel worse than the end of s1 but s2 took it as a challenge

i Hated s2 and was really suffering through it but when kenny showed up i was like OH THANK GOD a familiar face (even tho he really tested my patience in S1) because i capital H Hated the new cast. sarah was fine and luke was Generally ok for the most part but the adults pissed me the Fuck off and still do for how they treated clem (an 11 year old!!) like a whole ass adult and personal therapist. but then kenny got Real scary after the whole sarita thing and jane was pissin me off for not only constantly pushing kenny (a man who was desperately holding onto a very thin thread) but for trying to convince clem that she didnt need anyone and that she’d be better off on her own (AN 11 YEAR OLD!! in the zombie apocalypse!! even tho yea the s2 cast were shit to be around). looking at s2 in hindsight the only good thing about it was AJ..bby boy...

and then about a year or so later the trailer for s3 dropped and i was like YES look at clem fuckin badass fuckin shotgun fuckin take no shit Yes but then i was soooooooooo so disappointed when i found out you were gonna be playing as some fuckin Nobody new character i was like fuck off i just want clem back. season 3 was just....pretty boring in my opinion and the only saving grace was whenever clem was around and the whole “wheres aj” plot that i wish the game focused on instead. out of the s3 cast (minus clem/aj) i only really cared for javi and mari...and well.....we all kno what happens to mari and how fast l o l rip. eps 1-3 (generously) were ok and interesting but the final eps just... ehhh. also jesus was ok but hes also a part of the comics/show whatever so he doesnt rack up points for telltale. javi flirting with him was pretty cool tho. both protags are bisexual you love to see it. bi rights hell yeah

AND THEN....SEASON 4. i immediately fell in love with the entire cast (even when vi was mean to her when they first spoke cuz i was like “yeah yeah i know you dont mean it i saw the way you were lookin at her from the wall i KNOW youre gonna be a romance option”). the whole troubled youth boarding school was such a great choice finally clem was around people her fuckin age no more adults looking to her for guidance or to parent. and she was Top Dog these kids had no real experience and i knew it was only a matter of time before she slipped into the role as their leader. i was NOT expecting it to be because of how ep 1 ends like omfg the end of the 1st ep is just.....Real Good. the ep itself was pretty slow getting you introduced to everyone but my god shit gets Real the moment clem walks into that basement and from then on out the ep is just Wild and ends with a (literal) bang.

E2 started testing my patience with a few characters (lookin at you louis specifically (even tho i still like you) because i will never get over how now AJ was the one being treated like an adult (A 5 YEAR OLD WHO ONLY KNOWS KILL MONSTERS TO SURVIVE and has never been in a group setting that he can remember))(its why my clem could never romance louis sorry dude) but violet was 💕💕 amazing standing up for clem and aj against the whole group and she takes on the role as leader cuz “no one else stepped the fuck up” i love her.... and then lily shows up and the whole drama with the raiders AGH love it

up until this point i was still just watching others play since the seasons were either too depressing or boring for me to want to pick it up for myself

but then telltale shut down. and i was like.....oh my god....clems story is gonna get cut right at the end?? i loved this new cast and i dont get to see how it ends??? im not gonna get to play it for myself!??!?! so when skybound stepped in and saved it i bought it up IMMEDIATELY i was like “that was TOO CLOSE im gonna finish this series for myself Dammit” and i did and it was great i played eps 3 and 4 when they dropped at midnight im so glad i got to experience the ending for myself on my own. i cried ahhaha so fuckin hard and i still do CLEEEEMMMM you did it bitch i love you

season 1 and 4 are really the only ones i like. and for me s4 ranks higher than s1 because of the cast and the found family trope and how its just..not as fuckin desperate and depressing and hopeless. it really just comes down to preference but s4 wins for me with s1 close second. i only ever go through seasons 2 and 3 for the sake of setting up s4 like its just formality aha. plus getting ajs plot established makes it worth it. and knowing how clems story ends makes the depressing parts easier to get through

SO YEAH OOF SORRY for the long answer i talk way too much ahah but i do really love this game. seasons 1 and 4 now reside snugly in a little corner of my heart where they will stay until i die lmao. if you havent i definitely recommend at least going through s4!!

#clem and her story are even more important to me now after how badly i was burned by naughty dog #when i finally got around to replaying twdg after lou2 came out it really hit me like a tonne of bricks #i cried like just as hard as i did when it originally dropped #clem got the ending that ellie threw away #clem im so happy for you ellie im so sorry for you #replies with lexi #long post #duela-quinzel

First impression - CHILD

Impression now - OHHH.. OHHHHHHHH..... shes my favorite character now :) i cherish her so much shes really just.. wow!!!!! im so proud of her and how much growing up shes done!!!!! i was so glad they really REALLY fleshed her out in 3/4 ESPECIALLY 5 beyond like. look! its a kid! tho to be honest she was never really that she has so much personality even just in 1 where shes mostly a damsel :)

Favorite moment - genuinely cant choose i dont think. i liked it when she was like. if you wont look for mom i WILL in 1.. any part where shes defending the other kids at the orphanage... like, all of 5 [excluding the scene where park is teaching her internalized misogyny -_-] like we will be here all day if i keep going

Idea for a story - hmm... im replacing 6 with a game where you play as Just Her and you get to Fight. i think theres a lot you could do with her as a 20yrold protag and like.. her journey after the stuff that happened in 5. i genuinely think it couldve been really interesting for her to have a like.. whats the word for collage students who take a year off the travel. that but like kiryu takes care of the orphanage alone and she goes on an adventure.. idk maybe somethings happened to the t-set girls and she has to help them and its somehow wrapped up in yakuza buisness and they didnt know who else to call but thier cool friend haruka... idk. i just think she shouldve been allowed to hit and punch people. i dont see a world where kiryu wouldnt teach her to fight and thats even if she didnt want to which she CLEARLY would like.. she watches boxing for godsake cmon... that combined w kiryu for a dad and all the danger in her life... CMON... CMOOONNNNN

Unpopular opinion - im sorry ichiban but it shouldve been haruka who ‘inherited’ the series. imagine.... WAIT ACTUALLY. UNREALTED BUT REMEBER THAT MEME SAYING MGS WAS GONNA BE A MOBILE SERIES LIKE RHYTHM GAME? IMAGINE. HARUKA RHYTHM GAME. IMAGINE!!!!!

First impression - oh boy a woman w not much personality -_-

Impression now - oh boy! woman with personality! shes definitely suffering from rgg-woman-disease where a lot of her stuff is very damsel-y but like she is really fun if you pay attention. it shows especially in how she interacts with saori and yagami and i think its nice that shes on good terms with yagami even tho they dated-broke-up-whatevers-going-on-there. shes very.. paired down i guess is the word? but shes interesting once you pay attention.

Favorite moment - cake trialllllll i really like it :) i think its funny she was immediately like. yes he ate that cake and for this he will die <3 also when she got that info for yagami. genuinely that was so brave of her esp since she clearly looked up to [redacted] like.. bro. that really mustve hurt her to do :(

Idea for a story - maybe a case from her perspective like where the guy is guilty but the case is might fall through because it was based on like one thing that has suddenly stopped holding water (like a witness suddenly disappearing or evidence being stolen or something) so shes gotta do some Detecting very very quickly because the trial is SOON

Unpopular opinion - apparently its unpopular to even acknowledge she exists according to the empty ass tags so. she exists :) shes fun :)

Favorite relationship - saori :) i already elaborated on this on saoris but :) i think its sweet theyve been friends so long and also what if we were both girls ect ect

I enjoy talking to you so im gonna continue with my yugioh related questions. Can you list your fav female protags from the first 6 series and if its not to much to ask, what you liked/disliked most about them?

Oh boy. I’m not really sure how to rate them b/c it’s not like I, dislike any of them (how they were written/handled, yes, the character’s themselves, no).

Also it’s been a while since I watched some of the series so.

My tentative list is, this.

Thoughts on them, in order.

Yuzu is hands down best girl. I also love her relationship w/ the main boy of her series. It actually feels real and natural. Also, gotta love how she doesn’t sit around and wait to be rescued after ending up in the Synchro dimension. She’s gonna save herself darn it (unfortunately the plot and antagonists had other ideas but at least she tried). Also she body slammed Roget and made him slam head first into a table and anyone that kicks this guy’s ass gets a plus in my books. That scene was fuckin perfection.

I actually like Anzu, and always have. I never quite understood the hate she got and the fact that’s not really a duelist doesn’t bother me. Like, not everyone is and that’s fine.

Also she called Kaiba out on his bullshit at least once (I know she did it during Duelist Kingdom but I can’t remember if it happened elsewhere) so at least someone has the balls to do it. Also she’s like one of the few girls that actually had a relationship with the lead boy before the series started (the other two being Yuzu and Kotori, who were also already friends w/ the mc).

So it has been a while since I watched Zexal fully but I did watch a few episodes recently and Kotori is, really good??? Like, her friendship with Yuma is rlly sweet (certainly better than his “friendship” w/ Tetsuo that’s for sure).

Her treatment during the latter portion of Zexal II did leave a lot to be desired but also like, I heard somewhere it was like, a contract thing with the va so they HAD to give her lines even tho she wasn’t part of the plot anymore so *shrug emoji* Once again tho, I don’t really mind her not being a duelist. Just b/c someone is your friend doesn’t mean you have to share their interests.

While I think it’s an interesting choice to not have Aoi actually be like, friend w/ Yusaku (at least not till later), I do think it would have been neat if they had become friends earlier. Cause then we could have had identity shenanigans, Yusaku knows that Aoi is Blue Angel but she doesn’t realize that her new friend is ALSO Playmaker who she occasionally teams up with. Wish she had a few more wins but alas, she doesn’t have protagonist plot armour.

One of the things that endeared me to Asuka from the get go was her basically showcasing that now all Obelisk Blues are dicks to the Osiris Reds. Some are, in fact, nice. And the fact that she was willing to just chill w/ the boys regardless.

Aki is, idk she’s cool I guess. The psychic duelist thing was neat but barely used. It’s been a while since I watched 5Ds so i don’t remember to much which is partly why she’s, down here. She’s fine I just, don’t have any strong feelings either way.

Doesn’t help her writing basically shafted her post DS arc so. :/

its wild how they didnt really delve into the whole ‘war crimes’ thing w/the hunter association lmao. idk if this movie is canon so that might be why....they just brushed over the fact that the HA was like, running concentration camps and murdering entire groups of people. wild

this movie was fun!! it felt more like hxh than the last movie, which v much felt like a generic anime movie. this one felt more in character. it did fall into typical anime movie tropes sometimes but the characters felt more like themselves here, espec w/the point of the story this seems to be set at

like gons anger and all that - while it obvs comes from a place of love and kindness, he can get carried away sometimes...i feel like we’re gonna rlly delve into the negative impact of this in the CA arc and i am both so ready and not ready at all

this movie was hella gay which i appreciate. love the gays

all in all this was fun!! i wish there were more hxh movies lmao i love anime movies. well at least theres the musical LMAOOO im gonna watch that soon

It's a little weird that only Cynthia gets voiceacted out of the main champion trio in this anime vid. If it was an issue of getting old voiceactors back on short notice, then technically isn't Lance the one who was used most recently in Generations? Is Cynthia's Japanese voiceactor just always lurking in the shadows ready to jump back into the fray? Or did Nintendo just aknowledge that she's the most popular champion lol. (Apparently she's either rank 1 or 2 in literally every country's fandom!)

Ian so happy that Barry made it in as one of the main friendsn of the female protag choice (and also that they included the female protag choice in promotional materials this time!) And it's awesome that Rosa was chosen as one of the primary important characters overall, and that cool tote bag with her saving Brendan atop a charizard was the first foreshadowing we got of the entire game. She is soooo underappreciated, I'm so happy she gets all this love! Gives me hope of other underloved charries maybe returning hmm hmm Charon hmm

Mysterious new characters? I think that's just meant to be Aroma Lady and Lass in a bit of a different design, cos they're Erika's usual gym assistants. But the aroma lady looks a lot like an older Green...?

Brock hugging Cheren's Snivy!!!! I didn't even think about cool interactions that could come from the Masters meeting each other's Pokémon!!! Imagine something like at the start of the journey big onix is all scared of lil Snivy and Snivy starts off playing into the scary persona cos it's proud of someone acknowledging its power. But along the journey they're able to become friends and get over their differences and get to this point where Snivy jumps in to defend someone ten times it's size and can trust it's friend's trainer to help it when it gets hurt.

Aaaa so much potential aaaa... I want everyone to be buddies...

Oh man I wish whenever I got a badge I also got the gym leader to join me on my journey... I really hope there's lots of good plot bonding with all the characters I want like a full fire emblem support system thing (but for intercontinuity friendships not marriages of course)

And then some more animated bad guys it seems?? IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE HUNTER J FROM THE ANIME AAA and she has cool fancy teammates now?? Maybe we'll learn more of her backstory? I like the guy with the face tattoos/oddly triangular scars?

IT WAS ALL SUGIMORI'S IDEA THEY REALLY DID GIVE HIM A GAME TO CELEBRATE ALL HIS CHARACTERS IM SO HAPPY FOR HIM AAAA Im so glad cos I have ALWAYS complained that the trainer's never get merchandise and every time theres a returning cameos I'm so happy dear GOD I love SO MANY of these classic friends!!!!!

It's neat that it's being developed with a new smartphone app company instead of niantic, I'm glad this new company is more open to having the actual Pokémon art style. DeNA looks neat and their president seems to be a nice and stylish guy!

Oooo new region Pasio! It's an artificial island created specifically to be a paradise of tournaments and sporting events, similar to how the Battle Area was in sinnoh. I wonder if this kind of thing is common around teh pokeworld and this is kinda just like the main one that started a franchise of smaller ones around the world? Is this Pokémon Disneyland???

Brief shot of the mysterious potentially Hunter J + team, apparently in fancy tuxedos? Do they run the league? Is that the plot that's gonna happen, it turns out this was her new evil plan to find the strongest trainers and sneakily steal their Pokémon?

Really hard to catch all the trainer's tho cos they overlap each other. There's Flint and it seems Cheryl the stat trainer but I couldnt catch any of the ones near the end where it starts fading out...

Also I just REALLY LOVE the Sync System where you actually get unique special moves from the trainer's you pick, rather than everything being entirely dependant on the Pokémon. They can apparently use heals and buffs as well as having their own unique animation for z moves!

Aaaaand lots more trainers going past super fast and I can't see a thing, lol

I finished!!! game time was like something like 138 hours but I spent a good dozen or so hours pausing the game to check my phone or wandering off to make dinner.

I this said last night in a sleepy 4am haze, but I really enjoyed the ending. It was fun to play. The only time I died was when I accidentally fell into a chasm bc I didn’t realize a goddamn fiend was gonna come barreling out of the hall and ruin my “melee everything” scheme and I scooted myself right off a dang platform and respawned directly in its mouth. Whoops. When the Archon called up the Architect I was very Oh god not another one but then I didn’t have to actually try to kill it ever just avoid it, so that was fine. I LOVED how everyone came out to help at the end. It always seems unbelievable to me that your pals are content to hang back for the boss fight (ME2 I thought did well with having everyone else away on different tasks, and the ME3 citadel mission where everyone goes together is one of my favorite parts of the trilogy). And getting to run around with Kandros (who i love but duty calls and we can never be together) and Reyes (im still Very Sad i had to break up with him) and the Salarians!! and then your team coming in at the end :333 ah. It was a very feel-good, exciting culmination, and I think it fit the tone of the rest of the story well. Part of me was half-expecting disaster like you have to sacrifice Scott or a bunch of citizens or something, and while I eat that sort of tragedy up, I’m glad there wasn’t any for this game.

Incidentally, all of my screenshots of Scott somehow turned out like this, and so I’ve decided this is a chronic problem his whole life and he has 0 good photos ever even when the rest of the fam comes out lookin great:

Romance: I romanced Vetra!! I love her a lot as a character but I just kept wishing for more content. And I know I always crave more romancey content but I did feel like her romance arc had a lot less than what I knew people were getting from Jaal’s, especially because it takes you over halfway into the game before you get anything from it. Four flirt opportunities where she doesn’t really flirt back, my Ryder was dying and convinced her crush would never be reciprocated (hence the brief fling with Reyes). But I did LOVE the scenes you do finally get with her, the climbing date was soooo sweet, and I could not stop laughing when she tries to make you dinner. I’m never telling my beautiful girlfriend she doesn’t know how to cook steak. NEVER. she did it perfectly, i love cow. But I just wish there was a scene where YOU could do something for HER. Lexi even tells you that you should show her she’s appreciated and doesn’t have to take care of everyone all the time to be worthy of being liked but then you... never get a chance in game to really do that. Sigh. I definitely have a lot of inner-headcanoning going on for thier relationship. Though Vetra wants to eventually settle down and have a home and i’m... not so sure that’s in the cards for this Ryder. I may tweak the characterization of my Vetra-romance-ryder in some ways and redo this Ryder with Reyes for real next time. I think next up is gonna be a Jaal playthough though.

But, OVERWHELMINGLY, the relationship I was absolutely most fascinated by the whole game and spent way more time thinking about than romance, was the relationship between Ryder and SAM. I went into endgame thinking that the game really hadn’t gotten into that aspect nearly as much as I wanted, AND THEN!!! SAM GETS DISCONNECTED! And it’s revealed they took over WAY more control of the Pathfinder’s physiology than anyone had even guessed!! it’s not just “SAM can take access of enough systems to stop and then restart your heart” it was “SAM is so intertwined with you that they are integrated into these systems already and their absence makes it almost impossible for the Pathfinder to cope without.” I LOVED IT. I was so ready to address that, like, did Ryder know? Did SAM do it by choice or was it just an effect of Alec’s modifications?

And then... nothing. You’re linked back up with SAM. No one questions it. You don’t get to talk to Scott about how SAM is different for you than him now. Or at least, not that I’ve found??? to be fair I can’t seem to find Scott post-endgame yet (where is he hiding???? i’ve been all over Meridian after leaving/going back), and I still need to go check out the colonies and see what people there have to say. But it really seems like everyone sort of was like “whew, glad that’s sorted out, SAM’s back and htis could never possibly be an issue again so we will all forget about it and never bring it up again.” There was one colonist before (Fawkes) who was one of the only non-main characters to ask a really detailed question about SAM/what the future of AI is gonna look like in Heleus and I was so psyched for that convo. There’s a couple dialogue responses you can take, I went with:

becuase I really like the idea that Ryder starts to think of themselves as not just Ryder, but a Ryder-And-SAM partnership. There’s a lot of sacrifice in that. You’re admitting that your body is not just You anymore, but a team where both sides are valued.

I’ve spent a lot of the game thinking about Ryder’s internal dialogues with SAM, and the dynamic it would add to their relationship. You don’t have a voice that lives inside your head (and gives you its 100% undivided attention while you’re in the field) and not end up talking to it all the time. SAM asks you questions back on the Tempest when you talk to them and I bet they would when out and about as well, just privately. There’s a line in one of the Vaults where Ryder starts talking to herself and then catches it--

--because she gets more and more accustomed to not being the only one in her head. SAM is always there. More than that, they always have your back, and are ready to feed you whatever you need to get the mission done. They’re not just a voice, they’re a tool; and they’re not just a tool, they’re a support system. Maybe Ryder knows just how intertwined SAM is becoming with theer body, and isn’t just aware, but welcomes it. The Ryders are a fucked up family who aren’t good at talking to each other, but SAM means you never have to be alone again. Someone is always there for you, protecting and watching out for you.

So in the final mission, when SAM is ripped away from Ryder--it’s not just a physical effect. It’s like losing a part of your soul and a best friend and a, in some ways, a parent--because SAM learned through Alec Ryder before anyone else--and in other ways, a child--because Ryder is responsible for teaching SAM what it means to be a person and how to navigate the world. And I wish you could convey that emotional distress (even if less complex) in the game, and that Ryder was as worried for SAM’s well being as they are for Scott’s when they race to stop the Archon. Becuase in a lot of ways, I think my Ryder would have grown closer to same than she ever did with her brother.

Anyway, I wish the game hadaddressed these things more, but I also accept that like--this is a trope that I just am REALLY into and have been for ages. It’s not gonna be what everyone wants as the main focus, and it just wasn’t the big story they were trying to tell. At the beginning of the game the descriptions of SAM hyped me up so hard because they reminded me very strongly of my favorite short story, Silently And Very Fast by Catherynne Valente (which, if you haven’t read it, it’s really amazing and you can read the first part here (the other 3 parts are linked at the bottom of each chapter), or I can send a pdf of it if you want, it’s really good people read it please and then tell me about your Emotions). The story veered off not long into the plot of the game (I, along with many others, suspected for a while that SAM would turn out to be like the mother’s consciousness integrated into the AI or something) but I stayed pretty invested in it as a major part of my Ryder’s experience in Heleus.

And like, I guess this would be something I’ll probably end up doing fic about now since the game didn’t give me as much as I wanted (and I only meant to write a short paragraph about it here and now i have like 9 whoops), so I’ll probably keep thinking about it with the rest of my Ryders. There’s so much potential there. Jade Ryder really grew attached to SAM, but there’s also potential for resentment there--SAM is always watching, Ryder essentially gives up any aspect of privacy in their life, even if SAM is polite enough not to comment on it.

wow this got away from me. anyway. that’s the game!!!!! i’m running around making sure i’ve talked to everyone still. I need to go check up on the colonies and stuff, but I did pretty much everything else before the last mission, so there’s not much to play. Just some assignments that don’t have navpoints. and then start thinking about my next Ryder!!! I played Jade Ryder as pretty logical and professional, with a tendency to open up more with people as she grew to know them better, though she struggled to be open/heartfelt when talking to Angara when her natural conversation style with them flopped hard at first. I think my next Ryder who I still need to name is gonna be way more casual/joke-y (tho i think Ryder is HILARIOUS no matter what, it’s so fun to have such a lighthearted protag) and probably more reckless and prone to following their whims. Gonna have to re-battle the CC though which I’m not so much looking forward to.

oh also re: the second picture: i FUCKING LOVE that you beat the architect on Elaaden so hard it shoots itself into orbit and slowly decays and you can just sit there and watch it slowly fizzle in the cold vacuum of space

I cant believe ive progressed from "im gonna buy this slightly updated rerelease of a game i already own because science grandpa" to "im gonna reenter the kingdom hearts fandom and catch up on all the games i missed because science grandpa" to "im gonna get into an entirely new fandom literally just for science grandpa i mean dad"

Its probably best i start with the first game in the series tho, rite? Theyre all in continuity with the same protag and stuff unlike pokemon, apparantly. But still i worry that it wont be able to hold my interest in the first game cos apparantly THE FABLED SADDAD is only a late game boss with barely one single scene compared to his more fleshed out appearances in the sequels. I can only hope that everything else lives up to the power of he cuteness and every other yokai is equally monstery huggables! And im totally unspoiled for LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THE GAME EXCEPT FOR MADDIMAN so lol for all i know it could be exactly my ultra fave and i just never knew it! I can at least give credit to the wiki makers for having it be easier to learn about one sad dad's plot without spoiling the rest of the game for yourself, thats better than pokemon and kh!

Oh but the one thing i do know is that everyone in the fandom is universally sad that they removed the female character option in the third game. Apparantly its cos now you have a second scenario with a new female character but it sucks that this means they canonized the male character as the "real" one for the first two games. Really sucks cos he's also the canon protagonist in the anime too and already gets 100% of the screentime in all promotional materials so i didnt even friggin know there was a girl option until years after i first heard of the game! JUSTICE FOR KATIE YO!!! Her design is infinately better than the ultra generic one for the dude. Like if their excuse for removibg her is "but theres a different female character who's nate's new friend and they both exist simultaneously" like why not have it so that if you play as katie you get a male version of that same character? Or if the excuse is to save cartridge space then literally just replace the new girl with "katie moves to america and has this separate adventure". Or even mix both and have it so that you can pick which protagonist is the one that moves and which stays? And have a prologue segmebt where the one who wasnt already the hero comes along and somehow something gets a yokai watch too and then new scenario, the end. Cos what ive heard is that both nate and katie are characters anyway, even if you dont pick them? The leftover one becomes your non yokai powered friend/love interest. Or is that just in the anime? But like if thats how katie is left canonically in the final game in the trilogy REGARDLESS OF YOUR GODDAMN CHOICES then yo it could be cool if the love interest got powers and joined you on a super double adventure! Thatd actually get me invested in your love plot! You could have loads of sweetness of them being long distance pals and maybe getting closer to confessing now theyre spending time apart. Cos a friend moving away is always super stressful and keeping in touch makes you worried theyre gonna forget you and all. And katie maybe is worried that nate doesnt trust her as much as she thought he did, if he kept the yokai secret from her. And they could have awkwardness due to miscommunication and anxiety and RELATE THAT TO MADDIMAN'S FAMILY TROUBLES AND HAVE HIM BE A BIG ROLE IN THE PLOT RESOLVING IT BECAUSE MADDIMAN IS THE GODDAMN BEST! Also honestly the new girl character they replaced katie with DOES seem cool, im just mad that she replaced katie. So maybe keep her as an npc and she could be a cool new friend katie makes in america? Or yknow if they felt like ditching the "katie only exists for love interest uwu shes not the canon protagonist and never will be" crap then HEY MAYBE NEW GIRL COULD BE KATIE'S LOVE INTEREST?

ALSO maybe add a button to hug my yokai and have them follow behind you and also make custom rooms for them and decorate them and also give them snacks. Oh also i was checking up the version exclusives for the second game cos huh thats weird that only YW2 has two versions and both thw first and third game dont. I think i might go with bony spirits cos i had a good giggle at "herbiboy and carniboy" and i wanna throw my money at whoever made that pun. Also yo did u know theres a fuckin crank-a-kai?? Aka a gachapon machine of the damned?? Created by a punny gas(c)hadoro yokai whose giant towering skeletal scaryness is all wasted on being addicted to gacha games?? I love this. I especially love it cos gacha machines were the original inspiration for pokeballs so its like a fun callback to the franchise's bigger brother! But im also glad that the gacha thing is just one of many different minigames to catch yokai, cos i really dont like games thatre 100% random chance with no choices at all. THO STILL WHERE IS MY CHOICE TO HUG MADDIMAN....

It is a little annoying though that you never get a kiss scene or even a confirmation that they're dating. There's a little more than just hand holding shown in the lesbian endings but its all drawn in a gross fanservicey 'straight men think lesbians are hot' sort of way :(

But i guess it all worked out cos it means the gay routes have WAY BETTER PLOTS, lol! All of the straight options for the male protagonist are either 'woman is asshole to you for 8 years but just trust me they are totally in love simply because she's a woman' or 'you are an asshole to woman but same' and even one where both of you are douchebags :/ Whereas the dudes get a plot that actually intersects with the main plot about the sealing of lucifer and also has DEEP ANGST and your love interest vowing to protect you from lucifer even if it means their death. HOW IN THE HELL COULD THEY THINK THAT WAS LESS ROMANTIC THAN 'UWU WOMAN SHOULDNT FIGHT U SHOULD BE MY HOUSEWIFE'??

and man even the gay routes still have a lot of gender stereotype nonsense, Snow's route is all 'he is womanly because he's bisexual' and 'protag is grossed out/annoyed/finds it funny', and the other guy Al's route has him being the homophobic asshole and constantly calling you the womanly one and only accidentally falling into romantic scenes because of contrived coincidences. And beating you up. And in the end you just both beat each other up and its meant to be hot i guess?? He's the attack stat character so i guess it makes sense but seriously its so weird like you have to prove youre One Of The Good Gays by being Super Manly and then Men Dont Romance They Just Fight And Fuck. Plus loads of 'uwu im not really gay oh im so disgusted by my feelings' and him still upholding all these gross sexist ideals and homophpboa even after he goddamn falls for you! At least its better than his straight route cos there he doesnt even get anything challenging his bigotry. Its just 'uwu u weak u no be warrior because girl' and then NO MATTER HOW MUCH HIGHER YOUR STATS ARE he's 'proven right' and his route is all about 'protecting you', ugh...

So yeah i think Snow's route is the best one so far just because he's unapologetically queer and always stands up to people givibg him shit and never changes to fit their dumb ideas of masculinity and femininity like everyone else does in every route. Though still every birthday you have to see the same 'lol u r like a girl because u give me a present no true man actually appreciates his friends' scene. And the dumb 'excuse' for why he 'acts like a woman', that its just some sort of goddamn species trait of flower demons. OR MAYBE HE'S JUST A DUDE WHO LIKES FLOWERS AND LIKES DUDES AND ALSO SO AM I! Seriously i hate that it puts words into your protagonist's mouth so the dude always agrees that Eww Girly Men Bad and the girl always agrees that Gee I Am Weak And Need Protecting. :(

Anyway Snow and Silver are living in a nice forest cottage together and Snow vowed to protect him from lucifer even if it means dying and Silver was like *bittersweet smile* "thank goodness we'll die together because i couldnt be without you" and then it talks about how even if the magic spell fails their souls will be tied together for all eternity and sleeping inside the magic jade until someday they get reincarnated and find each other all over again so GOD DAMN YOU CANT TELL ME THATS LESS ROMANTIC THAN FUCKIN DOUCHEBAG RICH GIRL WHO SLAPS YOU AND YOU BUY HER ONE PACKET OF BREAD AND SUDDENLY ITS A MARRIAGE

Also im real fuckin glad to find out that in the context of one of the other endibgs its confirmed that no the worst case scenario mentioned in snow's ending is not ever gonna happen, and yes they will indeed be hapoy forever. Tho its a shame you couldnt get some sort bonus even gooder snow ending if you find that out? Cos they never needed to do that spell to seal the protagonist's powers, lucifer is already never gonna actually revive unless the player picks all the bad choices. So they didnt have to run off and become forest hermits and live in fear. They could become less hermitty nice forest cottage doods and still keep in touch with the family!

Also i think its slightly wasted potential that Snow's demon horns dont grow bigger as he gets older. It was already a really neat design choice to make the shyest nicest guy have the most demony features, and it would have been even cuter if he had some massive satan horns and then such a kind :3 face underneath~ (also lol its weird that actual satan doesnt have horns and looks totally human aside from his hair colour...wtf...)

ALSO there should have been an actual kiss scene!!! Though the scene of them holding hands in the glow of snow's magic as he makes you a lil flower gift was REAL CUTE ALSO. But let them have smooch and confirmed onscreen marriage/at least saying the word "love" or "boyfriend" even once!

Seriously aaaa im so happy the protag gets a new matching outfit in the ending but THIS SHIP IS THE ONLY GOOD THING IN THE GAME AND IT DESERVES MORE

They shoulda made a whole sequel game where u play as their child. Maybe a plot of some new bad guy coming after grown up protag to unseal his powers and awaken lucifer again, and their kid has to rescue them from being kidnapped? Or dealing with the racism of being a human-demon couple, or maybe finally meeting snow's parents or just THERES A LOT OF POTENTIAL PLOTS

BIG THINGS I HATE: when straight endings take priority

Like, i’m playing this app game called Love Story Magical Princess and i just got really bummed out. I know that if you meet the conditions for two endings it has a list to decide which one to give you, but like i didnt even meet both requirements?? I was going for Snow and i got ALL HIS EVENTS as well as the stat requirements, and instead i got the asshole rude tsundere rich lady who also requires Intelligence stats but i didnt even finish her route! And MAN the game wanted me to finish her fuckin route, i had to go to all the same classes to get him and all of his events are in the same places her events are…

So like man if it goes for her even if he has more event flags tripped, then do i have to go out of my way to find ways to raise these stats without using the easy classes? Just to make sure i never bump into her??

Seriously it was SUCH a mood killer! I just finished this whole dramatic sad route with this shy gay demon man and he nearly DIED and i CRADLED HIS BODY BACK TO HEALTH and we were discussing whether the protagonist shpuld sacrifice himself to save the world and Snow was being like ‘no i wont let that happen, its my turn to protect you’ aaaaa!! And it had a few stupid homophobic moments but generally the writing was at the best its ever been in the entire game!

And then fuckin.. Fade to black and some lady i dont even know is saying ‘uhu be my butler’ and protagonist is like ‘i’ll do anything for you’ even though she’s been nothing but an asshole to you and wont even treat you like an equal and actually marry you like everyone else…

AND I SPENT HOURS MICROMANAGING STATS FOR GODDAMN SNOW!!!!!

Fuck it i love him so much im gonna do it again dammit!!
