Dropping Byler Evidence Every (Other) Day Until Season 5

. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁ Day 26: Music Choices (Titles) . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁

Music is important for conveying a subtle message that the viewer barely realises they're getting. A lot of romantic Byler scenes would probably seem romantic with any music, but they're made more romantic with music that has been chosen specifically for this purpose.

For example, in my Lumax parallel post, I talked about how they used the same music in a pivotal Byler scene as a heart-to-heart scene in S2 with Lumax. This is "On The Bus" -

This is highly intentional and was done to make the viewer see both scenes as romantic, due to the music's calming and curious tones. Both scenes seem like the start of something new. Of course, with Lumax, it is the start of their uninterrupted romance. With Byler, to Will it feels like a chance for him to reconnect with Mike. To Mike it feels the same after feeling like he lost him and now that El is somewhere else, he feels comfortable being more affectionate with Will.

In both scenes, the couple gets interrupted, which happens a lot on Stranger Things, but really only when two characters with romantic potential have a romantic scene.

You do not use a song in the background of a romantic scene and then place that song in the background of a platonic scene. the song is in no other scenes other than these two. The creators are trying to clearly convey that Byler's scene is romantic.

Now, I also wanted to talk about the titles that some of these soundtrack pieces get.

So, everyone knows the Rink o Mania fight, right? If you're not well-versed in the Byler lore, you might not have any idea where this is going, but basically, a song begins to play during the climax of the fight.

This argument is already packed full of implications: the thought that Mike believes that Will had already ruined his day by ignoring him, the implication that Mike hadn't been ignoring him the whole time, Mike saying "we're friends!" a little too adamantly, the "what about us?" and dramatic head turn to make it romantic--

So when Will says "Well we used to be best friends!" The camera cuts to Mike looking like this ^^, aka regretting everything he's said because he'd misinterpreted things.

And some music plays:

Before anyone says anything, yes, El is also hiding in a closet right now. As in, a literal one. But the whole point of the BRACKETS is to show that there is a double meaning to this title. Will and Mike are hiding in the metaphorical, gay, closet. El is hiding in the closet at Rink o Mania.

What's funny is that there is literally no mention of being queer in this argument on Will's part. Despite being the one with confirmed feelings, all Will is talking about is his friendship with Mike and feeling like he's being pushed away. He may say things like "What about us?" and "And us?" but when he confirms that these were all only to do with their friendship, we get Mike's reaction, and that's when the song begins to play.

The editors chose the music to play at this point in order to drive the idea home that Mike is in the closet. During the fight, he constantly misinterpreted Will's words as romantic. So when Mike realised that Will hadn't meant it all that way, the music played, because it the moment why he's in the closet.

ALSO the music's motif is the same as the soundtrack piece used for the garage scene, called "Destroying The Castle", showing that the song is about Byler, not just El being in the literal closet.

Another interesting title choice for a piece of music is the song in the background of the love monologue by Mike in S4.

What do you expect the song title to be? (im expecting that you don't already know but i think thats unlikely)

Should it be something like....Right there and then? In that moment? You're my superhero?

No. This is the title. Because it's the main takeaway from that scene.

Not that Mike loves El, not that El is finding strength in Mike's words, not that he loved her from the moment he saw her, no. The scene is about Mike keeping the party together, doing whatever he has to do to save El. The scene is about Will sacrificing his own feelings. It's supposed to be painful. And to many viewers, who weren't even Byler shippers, it was.

Coupled with the fact that the camera constantly makes you remember that Will is there and is taking pain to all of this, the music title shows the true message to be taken away from this scene. The memory that sticks in your head isn't "Oh so I guess Mike loves El, yay", it's "I can't believe Will did that :((". It places emphasis on Will's arc, rather than Mike's.

Will's speech to Mike is being remembered. Not Mike to El's.

A lot of Milkvan shippers try to ignore the depth of Will's feelings and his importance and involvement of his own feelings in this scene. But why would there be no deeper connection to the van scene if this is the name of the track? His words are significant enough to trigger the music and to be the name of the track.

The name of the music isn't just crazy because it's what Will said. The name of the music is literally the phrase that encapsulate's the reason for Will's love towards Mike. Yeah, we may joke about the line being corny (at least me and my gf do um sorry) but it literally means "I think you are the most important thing in this world, I think you give me the courage to fight onwards, you make me feel like I'm not a mistake." And they decided to make the song for Milkvan's supposed arc closer called that.

sorry for spamposting on the tag today guys ... need to get out all the Thoughts . i recorded a couple videos of me talking abt baksbee in relation to the first two episodes but tumblr only lets you post one at a time and im too lazy to type out what i said or piece together the videos so here it is summarized in bullet points

brad + david parallel right off the bat with them both slapping danarachels phones out of their hands, which actually very well establishes the new dynamic of baksbee being sort of rivals in a sense as two sides of the same coin . david has now become the money hungry corporate scumbag and brad is doing his best to support a creative (although brad never really liked corporate and david never really supported creative)

braddavid mentioned By Name by brad as well as the predator-prey-ism immediately tackled . absolutely gorgeous start to the season

brad standing when dana enters . important to me . to me its a sign of him being tamed in a sense as well as his respect for dana . he doesnt mind being subservient to people he deems competant

i think brad saying that "the only way to get children to behave is to give them an allowance and then threaten to take it away", while being him just pitching playpennies, could also be reflective of his own childhood

Now that it’s over thoughts on season 3? I feel disappointed but I’m not surprised since I felt like this since 3x01. If we get a s4 I don’t know if I’ll watch it or I’ll casually watch it and like… not get invested

id say disappointing is pretty accurate to how i feel about the season. i honestly wasnt even gonna watch despite loving the first two seasons because i thought skipping past the aftermath of the cabin burning down was a really boring decision, and i do kinda wish i had just not bothered with it at all. as of now i probably won't watch s4, assuming it gets renewed, which makes me sad because at one point this was my favorite show and i really did love it, but it just feels so far away from the show it was in s1 that im just not really interested in anything that may happen. maybe if i do watch it ill wait until the full seasons out, or maybe ill change my mind and just casually watch, but right now im not really invested in what happens

more detailed thoughts below:

season overview:

i think overall the season just felt… contrived? so much of the plot felt like it was happening because the writers needed it to happen and not because it was a natural continuation of what had happened prior. the group staying in the wilderness after one comment from shauna is my biggest example of this. we know theyre not allowed to leave the wilderness until winter, so they don’t leave. thats it. so much just felt so forced

a big complaint i had in s2 was that they skip over the aftermath of every single major event, at least in the wilderness. they did it with jackies death and the beginning of the first winter, they did it with shaunas baby dying, and then they did it with the cabin burning. i just think it’s poor writing to not explore the results of these moments. even half an episode spent watching the cabin burn, trying to find whatever remains, and the start of them building new shelters couldve helped, because what they did do felt so unrealistic. the first two seasons they cant find any food and then in s3 suddenly they have a bunch of farm animals? not a fan.

adult timeline (mostly taissa):

i think the adult timeline is ruining the show, and at this point im really not sure theres a way back. they clearly have no clue what theyre doing with it. i have like 10 posts in my drafts about this but completely throwing away the most interesting adult plot (taissas senate career and her relationship with her family post sacrificing their dog to win the election) just to bring in van only to give van no reason to exist outside of taissa and then just killing her is a really bad sign for the direction of the plot.

on a positive note i will say that i liked the finale ending with tai and misty meeting up to blame shauna for everything that's happened. i think that direction feels right to me. after this season it has made no sense to me why any of them speak to shauna in the present day. so much of it is her fault it doesn’t add up that theyre just fine with her as adults, so hopefully going forward that’ll maybe be addressed? or maybe not who knows

however, i really dont buy the whole “we forgot what we did out there” thing they were going for. obviously thats true in reality that trauma survivors often forget part or all of their experience, but in a tv show that just… doesnt really work for me the way theyre doing it. it reads to me like they didnt anticipate the direction the plot would turn when the show started, so they used that to explain why none of this has ever been addressed until now. i mean shauna had all those journals detailing their experience but she didn't remember that she loved being a violent dictator until right now? again it just feels so forced

lottie:

i think everything with adult lottie after s1’s reveal has also been poorly planned. going from “who the fuck is lottie matthews” to killing her off in a murder mystery plot that even the other characters didnt care about is so sad, because after finishing s1 adult lottie was the character i was most interested in, and they just didn’t do anything compelling with her at all. and then they killed before they even had the opportunity to develop her!

i think her and callies dynamic couldve been sooo good especially with the idea that lottie saw callie as the baby shauna lost in the wilderness. i think if they had spent the season working toward that and developing their relationship and then ended it with callie accidentally killing lottie, that wouldve maybe worked better than what we got. i don't think she should've been killed at all, at least not yet, but if it had to be done it should've been after she was given more development. i completely understand simones frustration with the way lottie was written, because the lottie promised in s1 and the one we actually got aren’t the same character, and killing her off so soon was just such a waste.

shauna:

the biggest problem of the entire season. to me. they’re writing shauna like a cartoon character at this point. i know this is unpopular but i don’t find her to be particularly complex at this point lmao i think her beating up lottie after losing her baby in s2 was a better example of complexity, but at this point she’s just comically evil. its not enjoyable to watch for an entire season. also im so sick of every criticism toward how Shauna has been written this season being met with "you can't handle evil women" or whatever like my issue isn't what she's doing is how being written as she does it. there's no nuance to it she's like a cartoon supervillain out of nowhere

and i just dont find adult shauna that interesting in comparison to the other adult plots. i think giving her, jeff, and callie so much screentime is a huge mistake because its being given at the expense of characters that are just more compelling than any of them. callies plot should've been given to sammy somehow and jeffs screentime should've been given to lottie. her little speech at the end of the finale just felt embarrassing to listen to like none of the girls in the wilderness even liked her and now its 25 years later and she's calling herself a queen when they only indulged her to buy nat time

ultimately, i think the biggest issue is making shauna the unquestionable main character. she was never the main character before, no matter how much people try to convince themselves that she was. it was an ensemble show. if i had to pick a main character in the teen timeline, it would've been jackie in s1 and maybe nat in s2. shauna was probably the main in the adult timeline in s1 and s2, but s1 was about equal between shauna, tai, and nat in my opinion. since then everything been about adult shauna, and the show has suffered for it. if anything, i think making shauna and nat dual leads would've been better, since they're the most opposite, but adult nat is dead and teen nat was pushed to the side. i dont know if there's a way to divest attention from shauna at this point, but if the show wants to succeed ever again they need to figure it out

melissa:

completely unnecessary character. i was against another survivor being added long before hilary swank was cast and everything about how they handled that proves me right, at least in my opinion. it makes no sense for her to have survived, and no one will ever convince me that it was planned. the adult timeline revolved around forcing her into the plot, and the teen timeline suffered from shauna and melissas out of nowhere relationship taking up time that shouldve been spent on other characters. her killing van and then just disappearing to ridiculous

im not necessarily opposed to her in the teen timeline, especially after the finale. i think all of the “background” yellowjackets need to be given personalities or backstories or something to make us care about them, but i dont know if i love the way they did it. it started out strong but i still feel like she was just shaunas accessory and not really her own character, which is bad for a character thats now in two timelines

pit girl:

i think it was obviously that it was always going to be mari, as much as i still wish it wasnt. i liked that they orchestrated the circumstances of the hunt so nat could try to get them rescued. i liked the detail that shauna realized van was rigging the cards and stepped in to throw them off. i do kinda wish they had killed hannah instead just because i don’t care about her and wish she wasnt there lol. i did really love the moment gen said that maris her friend and she wanted to give her a better chance :(

however. i dont think the pit girl scene we were given makes sense with the scene in the pilot. like at all? i guess I always figured that they'd try to subvert expectations somehow but making it so that none of them were actually participating in the hunt feels like such a waste. in a way im glad that I have to watch them brutally hunt mari down and that other than shauna none of them really wanted her dead, but that just made shauna brutalizing her corpse feel really gross. that scene of them dragging her dead body through the snow just felt really unnecessary. it was one thing when i thought it was a ritual that they had done more than once but shauna forcing them to specifically do it to mari is just bad.

and again it just all feels so forced. none of them wanted to do the hunt, shauna was really the only one trying to kill her. the rest of them were just kinda there. the pit of spikes was just conveniently made the episode before and then forgotten about??? its like they realized they were about to get to pit girl but they didnt have anything set up so they had travis randomly put some spikes in the pit because they needed someone to fall into it

nat:

this is kinda the writers fault and kinda juliette lewis’s fault which still makes it the writers fault because she wanted off the show because she didnt like how nat was written, but nats absence is the adult timeline is so prevalent. ive seen other people say this and i agree but it really feels like it shouldve been shauna vs nat in the present. shauna reverting back to the wilderness vs nat who has always wanted to leave. shauna trying to drag her back in and nat being determined to get out. killing off adult nat the season before we find out how devoted nat was to rescuing them and not being able to see any connection to the present in that way sucks

this is less nat specific and more generally but it felt like there was a constant back and forth for who the girls supported and whether they wanted to go home based on absolutely nothing.

misty:

i dont have much to say here other than i would like her scenes so much more if walter disappeared from them entirely. its been two seasons and i still have no clue why hes here other than elijah wood wanted to join the show. loved her scene with shauna in the finale though

general:

the acting in this season is significantly worse than previous seasons and i have to assume its because of the script. the biggest exception to this is sophie thatcher i think she’s been so great in every scene she’s had

similarly the editing in the finale was… interesting. it would’ve been a lot better without the flashbacks, i didn’t think any of them were necessary and it definitely took me out of the show a little each time they were shown. maybe im being too harsh at this point but it was just weird. i get why they added the pit girl flashbacks, even though i dont think they were really needed, but all the other ones were unnecessary

one of my other biggest issues is that it feels like once a character dies in the present, their role in the past dwindles. we had so much less of nat than i wouldve liked this season, and lottie also kinda went away once her adult counterpart died. they (in my opinion) should’ve been two of the main focuses, if not the main focus, of the teen timeline because nats the most desperate to leave (and started the season as the leader) and lotties the most desperate to stay.

anyway in conclusion i think this is by far the weakest season of the show. so many things would happen but then would be immediately contradicted or forgotten. nats dead, lotties dead, vans dead, bens dead, maris dead but for some reason walter is still on my screen. they don’t seem to know what theyre doing or where theyre going, and at this point im just not really interested in finding out

ghost jackie. specifically the grocery store scene.

nat and coach bens relationship has always been a highlight, but even though i had some issues with the trial i think the ending to their dynamic was ultimately well done.

more mari. i really liked the attention she was given at the beginning of the season. im sad we've seen the last of her

I’d say it took them around 8 months after wrapping season four to release the first volume.

If they want to reduce the wait for season 5 like they did season 4, and chose to break up the season in two, we could see volume one in august at the latest, then possibly volume two further into autumn.

Of course, if they split the season in two equal halves, we could see the first four episodes just as summer starts (pls don’t do that to me i have 12 exams to sit in june 🥲)

I can also see them choosing not to split up the season the same way they did before purely because season 5 is the last season, whilst s4 was somewhat of an intermediate season that was released over a longer period to maintain the hype for the show and keep people engaged.

Since ST is quite literally the most popular US show on netflix, i seriously doubt they are worried about keeping the hype alive as s5 is the last season, I can see them spending more time editing the whole thing and dropping it all at once.

It all depends on the amount of CGI compared to s4, the budget, the size of the post-production crew, and how much content they have to work with.

So here i’m thinking:

S5 is split into two equal halves: Vol 1 (e1-4) are released early summer, Vol 2 (e5-8) are released sometime in september or later.

S5 is split similarly to S4: Vol 1 (e1-5/6?) released in august and Vol 2 (6/7?-8) are released in september/october

S5 is not split and the entire season drops sometime in autumn 2025 (i can see them aiming for a late october/early november release to allign with the time of year the season itself is set in/link back to wills disappearance on nov 6th)

(very rare) S5 is released Weekly? Starting in october, ending in november - IMO this would have been great if the other seasons were released weekly, but since ST has always been formatted for a binger audience, so it might feel foreign to the audience and ruin the flow of the ending - i cannot see them doing this unless each episode borders on 2 1/2 hours long (i don’t even want to know how long this season is going to be but considering they’ve been shooting for a year straight it’s going to be so much longer than s4 despite having fewer episodes)

I know it doesn’t seem soon, but this will fly by! Plus this is purely based off s4, no one is more eager for this season to come out than the Duffer brothers themselves. I don’t know a lot about post-production, but i imagine they can hire twice as many people to hopefully get it out as soon as possible without taking away from the quality of the season.

Im grateful we still have time to be excited about new content and theorise about it because this is the last time we get to do it! Who knows when a show as good as ST will come along again, IF one will come along again?

The wait, however long, will be worth it!

Im curious, if you had to make a required reading list or VODs to watch before anyone was added to Lifesteal, what would you put on there? My starting point would be barrier blocks and then I think I’d lose my sense of ideas

oh like for new players? hmmmm. barrier blocks for sure because it breaks down how the server works from the meta. and then some explanation of the cycles by someone, i'm partial to my post but that's pure bias.

but maybe a hot take, but i don't think new members need to watch the past, esp vods. i think it skews their perception of the server.

this is something that i thought about a lot last season looking at minutetech, bc he's been watching lifesteal for a long long time.

but it hit me one day during the joker arc just how insane it is to go from being a viewer to being a player on the server. because you can watch two players interact all day every day and see how lifesteal works,

but that's not YOU there in that conversation. You yourself are going to be different and will affect the story completely differently than anyone else.

you can watch mapicc and zam talk, but take out one of them and they're going to act differently towards you than they act towards each other. it doesn't really matter how they are between each other or any other member, you have to survive for yourself.

and it hit me in the joker arc bc minute had this perception of zam, knowing that he cares about the server and isn't this destructive, but none of that mattered because 1) zam had been changed by s4 and all of s5 up to that point and 2) minute was being a menace Specifically to zam, not dying all season, and now wanting to end the server in peace, which zam was absolutely against.

minute's actions changed how zam approached their relationship, so it didn't matter how much minute knew about the server and about its players, he was going to have to figure it out for himself what to do.

and i think a little (or a lot) of the tension this season is because kab and derap were longtime viewers before joining. they both have a perception on how zam is and acts and it affects how they interact with him, but zam doesn't have any of that same kind of backstory for them so he acts differently than they might expect. this was huge in how derap was pushing zam do things for himself so he wouldn't burnout and go evil like he always does. and kab thinking he was spineless bc all she remembers is eclipse (though her memory for the past is so terrible)

mane was also a long time viewer, but it doesn't feel like he's particularly taking the relational knowledge and putting it to use (at least not yet), but he did have a perception that lifesteal is all about the pvp and he had to learn otherwise. idk who he definitely watched, but it was for sure zam since s2 (when he also took mapicc and zam in a 2v1 and thought he would win but then got obliterated by them which made him realize the lifestealers were better at pvp than he expected) and obviously probably clownpierce and between that you would think it's only fighting. and probably write off zam being zam for why he would take loosing fights, but conclude that that was not being the point of the server.

basically your best teacher for how lifesteal works is logging on and doing things.

but i also might change my mind on this. there's a good number of youtube videos i think would be good for new members to watch, the cleansing and s3 finale, s4 TA prison (and bacon's second channel video on how he got in), leo's s3 finale and the dupe war, honestly spoke's wormhole truth video, subz's repairing s4 spawn after duper war, clown's funhouse. kind of a broad strokes on the exploits used and how, different types of video ideas, and a bit on how teaming and betrayal plays out.

but the lore just lores, you can't understand how it works until you live it.

but as an audience member i got lists and lists of required vods because i think for us it is always good to understand how people interact with each other in the past to understand why they are the way they are now. and we're not actually involved in anything.

some things im excited to think about post-finale:

because im ready to have a lot of emotions and i wanna think about the way it's the start of the exploration of it all so.

excited to see the story come full circle/understand how the beginning connects to the end. i do think there'll be a lot of circular storytelling between the pilot and the finale, and there already have been callbacks and setups that suggest ways in which one may be able to see the end at the beginning. everything beneath this point is really just going deeper into what that means:

bob fraser's story arc. he's such a fascinating character on this show, where i feel like him being there as a ghost "because he wasn't there as a father" was the feeling throughout, but was kept remarkably slowburn throughout the narrative, slowly giving bits and pieces of how various elements of the past reflect on the present. from bob being a mountie and how that inspired tiny fraser, to the fact that he was absent before fraser's mother died, to fraser being raised by his grandparents, to all the ways ghost!bob tries to "parent" his very adult, very capable son, in ways that are often tone-deaf/unhelpful but then startlingly prescient and supportive and caring (several such cases, but with janet really sticks out), and of course now, with maggie mackenzie, he's started speaking about grief in new ways

ray kowalski's arc. ive been holding back on writing about him, not because im not enjoying him, but because ive felt like he's a puzzle character. that is, the end also may hearken back to the beginning of his story, which came relatively late, compared to everyone else's. there's a lot to think about with that idea, the person coming in to continue/deconstruct established themes and narratives. what do those challenges ultimately spell out, we shall see! in his own arc, he's been relatively settled in the latter half of s4, but for one big thing: his lack of romantic relationship, but now he's potentially started something with maggie. i hope stella comes back to give some closure there, though, because it feels like that's been lingering since day 1 and even in say amen he clearly wasn't fully over her. im not sure what exactly id want to see from him in the finale, but for it to connect with the beginning, when he and fraser were hidden from one another under layers of masks and undergoing some parallel, difficult journeys that they were both forced into together/against their wills and overcoming that shaky initial terrain and uncertainty together. ive also privately with @gjdraws tended to call him alice in wonderland, and im curious about how magical realism the finale will get for him, if at all. he's always felt very "in-the-real-world" and not been immediately comfortable entering into fraser's more wackadoodle reality, so whether that comes up or not and is relevant, we'll see

ray vecchio's return. after roughly a third of the story in which he's hovered like a ghost, the man returns and.... something will happen. and once again. anything that makes one think of episodes like flashback? letting go? the pilot?

overall the three of them has been a big questionmark ever since ray kowalski appeared. how do the two parts of the story connect at the end, with each ray previously in their own, defined segment. without that full picture, i feel like i don't know s3-4 really (and possibly not s1-2), and any rewatching would lack context you can only get from knowing the end stage of the journey

this somewhat applies to meg as well. i am resigned that it may be less of a catharsis with her, because she wasn't as major in 4 as she was in s2-3, buuuuuut maybe not. maybe i'll be able to watch her first appearance in vault again and have a sense of where it's all heading

diefenbaker and fraser together. the two as the same soul/brothers/same person/iterations of the same themes/etc. the wild bunch really is one of the most impactful of the entire narrative and carried through the whole rest of the show, and i wonder... considering the finale is called call of the wild

also, tbh, frannie. she's been there since s1, she's been growing up. s1 frannie to s4 frannie had a lot of growing up happening. honestly in a way that feels the most clear-cut to me, but for the single last thing (fckn. let it (fraser) go. you're already dief's favourite, you should be proud of that)

who's taking care of you? -- s2finale au where bellarke are stuck in a cave and clarke has to reckon with what mount weather did to bellamy I thought about how the show never acknowledged Bellamy's torture in Mount Weather once it was over and it made me so mad that I wrote 7000 words about it.

Come Get A Hold Of Me -- s6 touchstarved Clarke my absolute beloved, this fic i have also reread multiple times and i love it Clarke is overwhelmed by the intensity of being around a civilization after six years of solitude with Madi. She is also very touch-starved. Bellamy notices.

When the ghost of the Alpha Station Princess turns up in his quarters, Bellamy knows he has enough on his plate without getting involved in her problems. He just wants her to figure out her unfinished business and move on. As things start to unravel on the Ark their relationship begins to change until he would follow her anywhere. Even hell.

Passing of the Skye Boat -- ok this is an outlander au that's pretty epic!! i know very little about outlander but i enjoyed this one! (s2 and on becomes au) After returning from war as an army nurse, Clarke and her fiancé are exploring Washington D.C. as a way to relearn each other due to their time apart. But when Clarke stumbles across a NASA exhibit about ways to prevent the human race from dying from nuclear war – by way of livable space ship they are calling the ‘Ark’ – Clarke is transported elsewhere, and into another war.

If the Right One Came Along -- modern au where Clarke works at a library and Bellamy comes back home. it's really long but also really good!!!! The fact that it’s with her former best friend-slash-crush isn’t a big deal. After all, their arrangement is only for the few weeks he’s in town before he returns to his celebrity life. That’s definitely not enough time for her to fall for him again…

I Found Peace in Your Violence -- THIS IS THE COOLEST FIC I HAVE EVER READ!!! it's a very unique modern au where a "kill gene" has been found and they send everyone to a special school for it. i think of this one every time i hear that song, but also this is just such a good one. another long one, but man alive it's real good Clarke Griffin has it all. She’s popular, an artistic prodigy and has a wealthy family to boot. So when her perfect world comes crashing down around her, it’s time to sink or swim. She tests positive for the Homicidal Tendency Syndrome gene, also known as the kill gene. Clarke is plucked from her comfortable life and placed into a school with people just like her - carriers, delinquents.

What's A Little Quaffle Between Friends? -- hp au where Clarke has to patch up quidditch player bellamy a bunch, i remember this one being very witty and banter-y? (haven't read it in a while so don't quote me on that lol) Bellamy gets injured in a Quidditch game and gets sent to the hospital wing, where Clarke volunteers during her free periods. She checks up on him during the night, and the next time he gets injured, she happens to be there again. Then it keeps happening.

Your words on my skin -- modern soulmate au that's pretty cute! Clarke is nine when she realises she has a soulmate.

in grief, Demeter circles the earth -- super unique au, mashing s3 and s5 in a really cool way!! havne't read this one in a while but i remember it being amazing. also very long "Not a ship from the sea," Indra snaps, a split second before Monty draws in a sharp, shocked breath. "A ship from the sky." Clarke understands before the others do. "You think Skaikru did it," she says softly.

starry eyes and galaxy minds -- spiderman au that i remember being super cute and fun!!! Five times Clarke Griffin met Spider-Man and the one time she met Bellamy Blake.

Simple Pleasures -- hunger games au MY BELOVED this fic is long but soooooo good!!!! Clarke is a medic from District 6. More importantly, she’s a dangerous criminal in the eyes of the Capitol. It isn’t a surprise when she is reaped for the 45th Hunger Games; it’s the only way for the Capitol to silence her. Bellamy spent his life protecting his younger sister. When Octavia volunteers for the Games to honour their district, he knows it’s his responsibility to follow her into the arena. He would give anything for her to become the Victor, even his safety. When they meet in the Capitol, Clarke can’t deny the connection she feels to him. He makes her feel more than a sacrifice. He makes her feel hope. She knows it’s dangerous to trust others, especially when in the arena, but why deny herself some final few simple pleasures?

Paint me in Trust -- MY OTHER FAV FIC OF ALL TIME this is an hp au but like, set during the war where they're on the run AND IT'S SO GOOD!! very long and also rated E but that doesn't come in for a while and you could easily skip if wanted Somehow, she finds her way to a safe house where she meets with other wizards and witches on the run.

"He does take stiles original body and the show doesnt talk about that" i suspected that and now im just What if due to it being a new body, technically, his old scars and such are gone. Stiles notices cause scars hes used to seeing from childhood are gone. It would probably send him into a spiral? Like sometimes you look at a scar from childhood and remember the memory with it, if one of those was from his mom teaching him to ride a bike and he remembered everytime he looked at it, but now its gone... i think Stiles would have a lot more hatred for the Nogitsune for taking even more from him than he originally thought.

the show really glosses over the significant trauma stiles had to have gone through. he was possessed. violated so intimately none of us can possibly fathom. his body, his face, the knowledge of his loved ones was used as a weapon against them. it used his mother's illness and death to make him lose hope. stiles watched his own body crumble into dust which would cause intense body dysmorphia one would think. then the cherry on top allison died.

i'm gonna plug way down we go by wolfspurr right here because i loved the details of stiles cataloging his body post-nogitsune and the fallout from the possession.

i still think it was a mistake in s4 to not address properly.

i get it. at the end of the day that's not the kind of show teen wolf was. the show explored death, trauma, grief and abuse but not at the level needed for that. none of these characters are healed by the end of the show. the only mental health professional we meet in the show is marin morell who is shady af and eichen house is an ethics black hole.

i think teen wolf's approach is best encapsulated at the end of lunar eclipse:

Hi! When did you get into hq? Have you had trouble with waning interest over time, or how do you keep your passion fresh?

hi!! i first watched haikyuu at around the end of 2019, where i just binge watched all of season 1-3. i enjoyed it a lot and thought it was really really good, but somehow i didn't get into it then. i just kind of said "oh they weren't kidding about it being good", and didn't engage with or create much fancontent. (a couple of my friends liked it, one of them even started playing vball because of it in hs)

when s4 came out i watched the first few episodes as they came out but didn't actually keep up with it all the way!! i only ended up finishing season 4 sometime last year.

around 2022, my brother wanted to find an anime to watch with our family, and i thought haikyuu would be a good choice (especially for my mom) since i thought it was very wholesome, exciting sports fun with good characters. while i was rewatching i was one again like "hey this is really good" and i made this blog to post occasional drawings. this time i was more invested since i noticed more characters the second time around, and i was like oh there's a LOT of funny little guys in here

then i started doing 1hqaday on a whim after seeing some prompts for 15 and 30 day challenges, soon after finished s4 and read the manga and got VERY invested! (also i only started REALLY liking akaashi here lol) also i think having to find references for a whole bunch of characters and thinking about their significant moments while drawing them made me appreciate each of them more, and haikyuu as a whole.

compared to a lot of people id say im still relatively new to actually being a part of the fandom so i haven't dealt with much waning interest in my current phase (i dont count since the beginning since i wasn't originally that invested), but in the past i tended to cycle through main interests every year or so. haikyuu still seems to have a lot going on though, and i have SOOO many ideas i haven't drawn yet that i hope ill be able to stick around for quite a while!

it doesnt make me sad anymore at least it just makes me laugh now (especially now after book 2) but like....darkly...just like... Oof...... oof......... but yeah the way clem is written specifically is actually laughable im sorry but that really is tangerine

i hate when characters get reverted just to retell the same story. like its doubly insulting. and its pretty much what tillie did with clem. and its BORING!!! and i just have to reiterate again that its also laughable. its just....painful honestly 💀 the plot is boring the characters are boring clem is a mess and her pre-existing (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) relationships to characters from the game are basically non-existent. and we're not having any INTERESTING discussions!!! what are the themes what are the messages what is tillie trying to say here? im getting a big load of reused character arcs and what feels new falls flat on its face. clem isnt even a shadow of her former self shes a different character entirely. and she is crying waaaay too much. shes got the anger of S3 clem and not even a Fraction of the emotional regulation S1 clem had. and she was 8 then....

and her naming her prosthetic 'kenny' is fucking stupid

ive seen some people say that it would actually be an interesting comic if clem was removed from the story but i dont agree. its fucking lame and boring. i love the zombie setting for the stories it allows a writer to tell. for the emphasis on character it allows. and this is probably the most boring piece of zombie related media ive ever laid my eyes on. this definitely feels like it was written by a romance writer trying to figure out how the zombie setting Works as a storytelling device. with a beloved preexisting character that theyre Also trying to find the voice of. and we're watching it in real time. and its Painful.....

S4 will Always be the True end to clementines story. its too perfect. and it also marked the end of telltale. it was a love letter to the series. its very fitting for both clem as a character but also as a last goodbye from a beloved studio. the still not bitten teams signatures on the hallway walls always gets a sob outta me. that final goodbye... clem was meant to spend the rest of her days at ericsons with the community she helped cultivate. ive said it a million times but her losing her leg is Symbolic. the first episode isnt titled "done running" for no reason. clem never Liked being on the road. all she ever wanted was a safe place to call home. with people she trusted and loved. and now the comics are retconning all of that just to retell the same story but Badly. why should i give a shit about that?

whats unfortunate is that i DO think there are still things that could be explored with a post S4 clem. shes got what she wanted: a home. (relative) safety. community. however she has new limitations due to her injury. how would she adjust to this? after spending so many years on the road? after having to do so much independently? only having herself to rely on for the most part? these are the goals im trying to achieve with my own short little fic (that ive been working on for too long):

she would never Want to leave ericsons. home is what shes been looking for since S1. but now that shes Safe. now that she can turn off survival mode a little bit and actually Relax for once. shes going to begin Processing EVERYTHING shes been through up until this point. the true healing starts Now. but she cant run from it. so how would she reconcile these things? the whole point of ericsons was that they were a community of traumatized kids who found love and support in each other when they had nothing else. aj says it himself (S4 is Very clear in its messaging). THAT is the perfect setting for clem to ALSO have this grieving/acceptance process that she Desperately needs. everything shes been through up until this point is going to hit her like a truck. the true healing starts NOW. shes no longer fighting for her life 25/8. and when the brain can get out of survival mode it begins True processing mode.

one of the issues with the comics is that it puts her BACK into survival mode. but of clems own choosing! no matter how much her processing hurts and no matter how much she could want to run from those feelings, she has always wanted True Community more than Anything. having to reconcile those feelings is interesting! i Do think tillie is trying to have some of these conversations. but they all fall flat. her understanding of clem as a character is weak. and the environment shes in is not conducive to the healing process she wants clem to have. its a mess. i will always stand firmly in the camp that these comics should have taken place in the gap between seasons 3 and 4. that change alone wouldve boosted the comic. but unfortunately they chose.....This

What’s a fic you’ve read more than once? i havent read that many gallavich fanfics since i watched the show in like april BUT im loving Africa and ill probably read it once it's finished

What’s a gifset you always have to reblog? s7 gifsets are really person to me but also maybe s10 and s11 because they reached the peak of softness

What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about? maybe that ian would tell mickey "i told you so" when they become parents and mickey turns out to be an absolute incredible dad that will play, sing, dance anything with his children.

What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration? id probably write like a series of one shots based on taylor swift songs

What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else? i think that not judging characters, like always be aware of their circumstances and what made them do or say that and that might not justify them but it explains their thought process, it explains why and gives them some sort of humanity to their mistakes idk if this makes sense but yeah that, don't judge a character too soon, try to understand them.

What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of? the secret dating, we know they secretly dated and stuff but i feel like it's actually a really fun concept to play with despite their circumstances in the show, it gives you so many possibilities.

What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show? the early seasons have special place in my heart, so s4-5 and i think gallavich totally saved s7, i love that part of the season

What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved? i would've loved to see ian healing from the grooming and realizing it was grooming, it would've been nice for the character to heal old wounds and start fresh a new life with mickey in a new neighborhood ready to create new memories

What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough? the just wondering if we're a couple or not scene, we definitely should discuss more the fact that mickey answered too quickly, he absolutely had been calling ian boyfriend in his head

What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship? im gonna quote noel fisher and as he said: "Ian's been that kind of guiding angel for Mickey so he's going to have to turn into a pretty much kind of a protective angel for Ian"

What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale? i think they're gonna learn to communicate even more, they were in really good path already. i think the writers didn't have much faith in them in that aspect but the conversation they have in s11 about going back or not to the new neighborhood made evident that they can communicate, they listen to each other and understand the reasons, each other's feelings. so yeah, i think they're gonna get even better at that and also they're not gonna wait that much to become parents. i think they eventually will find new jobs, ian will have his tomatoes and mickey will adore looking at him doing his thing every sunday morning. i really really think they finally found their peace, their home and are gonna be very very happy and disgustingly in love forever because they're also hopeless romantic and want that so bad.

@cult-of-the-eye thanks for the ask about the winx au!!!! sadly, my tumblr glitched out and it lost the ask so im doing a regular post :(

i have so so much content i am very normal!!

Ok so Martin is our quote unquote protagonist here with a very Bloom-esque backstory. He grew with his human mother on Earth and all was relatively normal until she died, which made him go through the family history and notice the discrepancies in the father's side. And he realized he's a fairy. He tried to do something about it but it's not like he knew any magical people so he was self taught. He even learnt a few spell, albeit minor ones.

That is until he gets accidentally roped into a fight with giant magical worms! He gets saved by a man named Tim, the fairy of humanity. Seeing this as his chance, Martin told him he's a fairy and asked how he can learn more about magic. And Tim was very happy to smuggle him over to Alfea University! So Martin wrote a letter to his partner (more on that later 👀) and left.

I took some creative liberties and changed the magic system a bit, mostly to fix the whole "this transformation is the strongest ever- oh wait this new one is- oh wait-" thing the later seasons have going on. And I made it more like regular academia?

Each fairy spends their teens learning the basic power, what's called Magic Winx in the show. Fully mastering it is equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Then you can pick another transformation to study. This is like a master's degree. This includes most of the post-s4 transformations.

Alfea has school's for both underaged and adult students. The former is like the one we see in the show, the latter is what we see in the au. Alfea University also offers courses for fairies who are only starting education as adults, which is what Martin is there for, so that they don't have to go to school with kids.

He arrives and meets Tim's two friends: Sasha, the fairy of preservation, and Jon, the fairy of information. And Jon is the stereotypical mean girl here. Hates Martin's guts from day one, views him as inferior because while Jon is studying to earn his Harmonix, Martin can't even transform yet.

The rest of the hypothetical show is Martin learning about his powers, transforming for the first time as the fairy of poetry, fighting evil monsters and people trying to kill them, including the witch of spiders, the university's evil founder, and a ton more worms. And growing closer with his new friends <3
