Roast Your OCs Tag!
Thanks for the tag, @urnumber1star (here)!
Rules: boil your OC down to their barest, most cliche, stereotypical essentials, and phrase it like a headline
Let's go with some of the cast of Grim City Chronicles, my Victorian/Edwardian historical fantasy WIP!
GRIM CITY CHRONICLES
Willem - Anxious seventeen-year-old indentured servant with severe self-esteem issues and a heart of gold, got involved with an insane sorcerer and now doesn't know what to do about the ✨consequences✨
Jesse - Sprightly little boy way too good for this world and who radiates Oliver Twist vibes in the best way
Vince - BREAKING NEWS: Angry local Victorian Era prostitute pretends he doesn't care about anyone other than himself and his cousin. But cares IMMENSELY
Peggy - Seemingly bubbly adorable girl whom everyone thinks is a historical version of a manic pixie girl but is actually much more than that. Also, she loves macabre, gothic things and has a bug collection.
Ilya - Chaotic con-man who also happens to be a musician - loves a good measure of troublemaking chaos and makes it everyone else's problem
Dasha - Hyperactive teenager obsessed with explosives and inventing new machines with clockwork. Will blow something up if too bored.
Gemma - American thief who moved to London and just wanted to have one normal day but ended up caught up in a whole conspiracy with a bunch of other young weirdos instead.

Ask game jumpscare :3 7, 11, 22, A, E?
OH I was busy watching stuff on YT I almost didn’t see this
Moving on to the more important stuff, rather than telling you abt an OC you already know. I’m gonna go on a fucking ramble about my monster hunter oc, Ilya Vasilyev. >:))
So kicking off with number 3, Ilya doesn’t do anything in order to cope while he’s tucking himself to bed, in most cases the moment he’s under the covers this man is already dead asleep in seconds because he’s a deep sleeper, he doesn’t hear shit, he can’t feel anything, man’s just gone from there once he goes eepy. The second option this could go is that Ilya’s not going to bother with going to bed, either a) night terrors from early childhood is plaguing his mind and proving difficult to get a wink of sleep, or b) his fucking nuisance of a vampire boyfriend (who also belongs to another friend of mine), is too busy pestering him for the fun of it. In some rare cases he’d take some small music box his mother used to keep and have that lull him to sleep after some long stressful mission with combatting against monsters or vampires.
7, Ilya gets his whole hit with nostalgia with food related things, things from Russian cuisine things like Pelmeni for example is one thing he really loves eating whenever he has the chance. The smell and everything just reminds him of his mother’s cooking and how he came running back inside the house with his younger twin brother, all ecstatic to eat their mother’s home cooked food. It’s nostalgic at best, the taste and everything is comforting, but at the same time he can’t help but internally cry about it sometimes fbskbfjsbf.
Ilya doesn’t sort well with confusion, and he’s not the type of idiot he claims most people are whenever he doesn’t understand something, in some cases he’d get lost halfway with his co-worker’s explanations with his missions and assignments and then Ilya’s stepping in from there before they go a little too far with their ridiculous explanation like ‘Okay slow the fuck down there, I don’t know half the shit you just spewed so back track a little and start off slowly for me to understand what you’re saying please and thank you.’ So first option being yeah he would be the type of person to seek clarification seconds later when shit starts escalating a little.
Ilya’s not really the type to get jealous as easily tbh, he’s like, a whole lot less and more down to earth whenever it comes to jealousy? Considering his partner’s a vampire he’s not possessive or anything towards him with the fact that why would anybody in this day of age (which is like sort of around the Victoria era which is his timeline), want to date a blood-sucking monster that preys on people?
And lastly, I’m pretty excited of this character, I’ve had him with a few AUs made with another friend of mine with my oc and theirs for a pairing besides their og universe, I haven’t picked up on any writing or rping with him in awhile. I’m hoping I’d get the chances in doing so later on in the summer by the time I’m officially done from school. As for the last question?? Hell naw 💀💀 this mf’s gonna look at me like some small ass bug he could squish underneath his boot, he wouldn’t even take me serious much and look at me like ‘Oh you’re 19? You don’t look like it’ BFKSBFJD, would’ve bruised my ego so badly if him and I ever tried to get along. Overall he’d probably be treating me like a kid lmao.

A few things I've picked up from reading a few pages of Evolution of Insects (David Grimaldi and Michael S. Engel, 2005), plus highlights
→ larvae/complete metamorphosis (Holometabola insects) have some kind of evolutionary advantage that we aren't sure of, but I didn't get to the part where they explain it yet
→ insects evolved flight just once, at least 100 million years before anyone else did
→ approximately 85% of plants with flowers are pollinated by insects, and nearly half of all insects directly interact with plants
→ "the inspiring diversity of flowers is due in large part to insects lured to them"
→ insects cause so much damage in pandemics (see: plague, typhus, chagas, sleeping sickness, malaria, yellow fever), and prompted the human adaptions of sickle cell anemia and delta-32 gene,
→ therefore, the insects that carried those microbes are the only metazoans known to have affected the evolution of humans
→ "species comprise a real unit and not a category defined at a somewhat arbitrary level, like genera and families"
→ this one fly is, arguably, "the best known eukaryotic organism"

Why are people so mean to bugs. They came before you you know!! They survived like two or three extinctions. They learned to walk on land and fly before any of you did. They selected plants. They're the reason fruits and flowers are the way they are today. They're going to outlive us all. Have some goddamn respect

would you like to explain the "it's complicated" pterygota?
I would in fact love to but i haven't researched about that a lot LMAO
Afaik like... Pterygota don't necessarily have wings. Ants are part of pterygota, same with stickbugs, lice, fleas. For example some of them like.. had ancestors with wings but eventually lost them, which still counts as pterygota

almost afraid to ask but how many, classes? of bugs are there?
Good question! Infodump under the cut
Insecta is the class (though other arthopods could also be considered bugs - like centipedes, millipedes and spiders). Inside it there's the subclasses apterygota (primitive wingless insects - silverfish and so) and pterygota (most have wings, some.. it's complicated)
Inside pterygota there's the infraclasses paleoptera (can't fold wings) and neoptera (foldable wings). Inside neoptera there's most notably exopterygota (incomplete metamorphosis - grasshoppers, roaches, etc) and endopterygota (complete metamorphosis - mosquitoes, butterflies, etc) and another superclass nobody talks about LMAO. Those things change easily so it's hard to find a source on what the current nomenclature is
I don't know all the orders yet, but hopefully i will soon! It's why i want to grab that book from our university's library about arthopod taxonomy and write down all of them

I love lepidoptera. They're my babies. I love moths and butterflies and i love everything in between. I will make an atlas with all families of lepidoptera as soon as I get my life together. Will update

Note
[vibrating violently] can you tell i like to talk about bugs
does lepidoptera include dragonflies?
nope! dragonflies are actually not only a different order (odonata), but a whole different infraclass (both belong to the class insecta - lepidoptera are part of the biggest and more modern group neoptera, while dragonflies are part of the most ancient group paleoptera because they cant fold their wings, in short)
