chloe’s hands were uncharacteristicly soft. as of late, alix would often bring them up to her lips clapsed in her own, and find her manicure stained with dirt and chipping, while calluses were starting to form at the bases of her fingers.

chloe’s hands were rough and stained with a multitude of things. Blue from the violets and brown from the earth. yellow, sometimes, with pollen, and tacky from milkweed she’d uprooted. the garden on the roofs of her fathers hotel was filled with sensational colors.

she’d been up night wondering why chloe’s hands had been massaged in honey-scented lotion before she arrived. the supple coating was a poor distraction from the grime and roughness beneath.

“you’ll find out later,” chloe said, kissing her forehead gently and gently persuading her girlfriend to fall back into the pillows, crawling up between her legs. she rested on her chest as alix stroked her fingers through her long hair. “i promise.”

later, alix had yet to realize, was only about an hour or so. so long as her father and mother were asleep, zoë’s door shut right across the hall.

“come with me,” chloe whispered to alex, rousing her from sleep. her bed was adorned with lush satin sheets and heavy pink duvets that alix wasn’t partial to leaving. the moon was barely peeking from behind the clouds, and she was all but awoken. chloe had been sleeping in her arms minutes ago - or so she’d thought.

“why…” alix groaned, missing the warmth of the person beside her and snuggling into her spot as chloe sat up and pulled her hair up and away from her face.

“it’s time to show you,” chloe grinned, running her hand down the length of alex’s arm. the sound of people outside her room had dwindled and now only the steps of seemingly nocturnal tourists echoed from several floor below.

alex pulled herself out of bed, her pink hair a tangled mess and clasped her hand in chloe’s, allowing herself to be dragged across the room. it was massive, but even in complete darkness chloe could navigate it. she stepped over piles of clothes and shoes that had been strewn about the floor like an afterthought.

she reached the door, releasing alix’s hand and pried it open ever so carefully. the latch clicked and a beam of light spilled into the room from the corridor outside. the two girls slipped out, and chloe closed the door without a sound, turning the knob clockwise as far as it would go before releasing it, the door already shut in the frame.

chloe’s eyes darted around before tilting her head towards the direction of the balcony exit, where the electrical panels were housed, blocked off from the rest of the patio where the pool was.

alix felt a smile creep up on her face and followed her down the hall, both girls silent as they reached the end and stepped into the crisp air of the night. it wouldn’t suprise her if ladybug or chat noir could be seen jumping from the rooftops on patrol under the shadows of the darkness.

“this way,” chloe motioned, as they walked across the cement-inlaid room with true soothing hum of the generators to cover their tracks.

“chloe, what-“

“look,” she said cutting her off, turning a sharp right corner abruptly. “we’re here.”

alix’s eyes dilated, adjusting to the night and saw several raised beds with hundreds of flowers coming up from them, a hose wound carefully along the side of the half-wall.

their colors were dulled in the night, but she could smell them from where she stood, fragrant and beautiful.

“chloe…” alix’s voice trailed off.

“i’ve been working on this through the summer.” she admitted. “most afternoons the pool is empty. people like to come up here and see the sunset, but they never bother to stray near the panels. i made these, and started growing them myself. there’s chrysanthemum, gardenias, an array of wildflowers, and plenty of violets.”

chloe’s hand dipped down into the raised bed, grasping a pink flower and picking it a few inches from the head of the bud. she turned around and looked at alix. “my parents don’t know i garden.”

“you won’t tell them?” alix asked.

chloe shook her head reluctantly. “they’d call this nonsensical. trivial behavior at best.”

“what about zoë? she wouldn’t say anything right?”

chloe sighed, twirling the stem of the flower in her hands. “this isn’t about her.” she said with a sense of finality. “this is my thing, and my thing only.”

she stepped forward and tucked the flower behind alix’s hair, caressing the side of her face after with her thumb grazing upon her bottom lip.

“and it’s something i want to share with you.”

alix felt her cheeks flush slightly and broke eye contact with chloe, crossing her arms with a small smile on her face. “you don’t know how adorable that is.”

“i try,” chloe laughed, before pulling alex gently, tilting her head to kiss her. alix uncrossed her arms, wrapping them around chloe as the sensation of her hands, no longer smooth, trailed over her back. they were alone, in the garden, the night still around them.

their love grew with the flowers, beautiful and private there.

okay so I was tagged by @aquietthinker and I am really excited bc I don't see many tag games these days and I get tagged in even fewer so thank you v much for hitting me up in this, love both you and your works!

Choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!

I’ve published about 29 works to my ao3 in 2020, with only one or two being kept unpublished for whatever reason. This year wasn't as active as other years for me but I do know that my writing hasn't suffered, and I've been impressed with quite a few that I’ve published this year! So here be my top five

falling (E). Okay so this fic may not be the best work I’ve ever done, but I'm proud simply because it’s one of the longest fics I’ve ever written, the word count may not be as high as other people’s fics but for me it was a real big boy fic. It was originally just going to be an excuse to write a throuple kinda thing but I managed to put in a lot more plot than I’d previously expected. This fic is defo an achievement for me. Plus I managed to rope Ruby into helping me out with it and when we have our writer to writer moments it really fuels my soul.

taste tester (M). Bit of a controversial fandom to be calling my fav fic but I do not care, this was a fic that got me out of a writing slump and got me back into the groove, that and it was the first piece of fic in a while where I focused on feelings and characters over smut (shocking, ik) so I really cannot overlook this fic and its value to me.

bad moon rising (M). Despite Brooke forcing me to replay her singing ‘bad moon arisin’ every time I think of this fic, I really do love it. It’s gritty and graphic and a total step in a different direction for me, it let me channel the grossness of my zombie au’s in a more concentrated way, and making Alex suffer in fic form is really neat, so ofc I love this bad boy.

it’s just what you do (T). It’s a fic based off a Lana del Ray song, need I say more? I swear I hype this fic up in my head way too much but I have really fond memories of writing it. This was another fic I bullied Ruby into helping me out with, I kinda talked about it with her the entire time I was writing it, and it probably annoyed the fuck out of her but it really helped me find the hype to write it as thoroughly as I could when I was writing it bc hassling her about my fics and oversharing about them with her is one of my top hobbies, ily Ruby sm. The ending is really bad but it was a way for me to insert some friends and their oc’s for fun and lit rally no other reason.

Okay so I'm cheating a bit for this last one, but its the you are the wilderness series (T). The fics are all set within a zombie apocalypse au and I really couldn't choose which one to include, so I figured I’d include the series. I was able to test my angst skillz in this series, as well as my ability to get a bit grim, it was really fun to write and one of my favourite series to date.

MASTERLIST 

(this part is more of a flashback scene, but it explains everything!!! ily)

You’re stood there wide eyed as Roger looks forward with the most hateful expression plastered on his face. He was staring at Alex with his jaw clenched tightly. His hands were in tight fists by his side - red from how hard he was squeezing them. Every person in the audience had dramatically gasped and covered their mouths with their hands - your mother included. Everyone began talking at once as they try to understand what was happening. 

You’re eyes are glued to Roger’s as Ellie turns to look at you, tears in her eyes. Her expression was almost soft. She looked almost regretful as she reaches her hand out to hold yours. You break away and look to her fast. She half smiles and nods her head. She looks back to Alex and her smile falls. 

“I know what you did.” is all she says. 

She looks to Roger and holds her head held high. They make eye contact and he barely nods his head. 

“Ellie,” you whisper. “I don’t understand.” is all you can say. 

She looks back to you and smiles once more. 

“I’ll explain everything.” she says sweetly, before turning to Alex and then to the audience. “I’ll explain it to you all!” she says loudly, grabbing their attention.

Night of the Kiss 

Roger had been searching for you as he walked among people he didn’t know. Several of them noticed who he was and were trying to get a photo with him. He sweetly accepted, but was still trying to locate you. When he finally gave up, he walks to your mother who looks almost bored. 

“Do you by chance know where y/n went to?” 

She looks to him and greets him with a smile. 

“I think I saw her head towards the kitchen, dear. Just through those swinging doors.” 

Roger thanks her as he makes his way over. He fights through the crowd until he’s stood in front of them. The small windows peered inside the kitchen as he freezes. He spots Alex close to you as he’s speaking. He’s about to barge in when suddenly Alex leans forward and kisses you. Roger lost his breath at the sight of it. If the room had been silent, you could have heard his heart break then and there. He watches you for a second longer as he almost snarls and turns to rush away. What he didn’t know was that Ellie was only a few feet behind him and watched everything happen as well. The drink she was holding had slipped from her hand and shattered everywhere. 

People all around had rushed to her and asked if she was alright. She laughed it off as her being clumsy, but she knew that wasn’t true. When she looked back to the kitchen it was then that she saw you harshly slap Alex with all of the force you had. A tiny spark of hope had filled her aching heart when she realized that you didn’t want that to happen. You didn’t ask for the kiss, he had pushed it on you. Knowing that you wouldn’t betray her like that - especially after everything she had done - just showed her how much you truly loved her. She felt beyond horrible for what she’s done, but she knew she had to make it right. Ellie had stood back as she fought tears. She watched as you rush out of the kitchen and look around fast. You dart towards your parents and suddenly you look like a ghost. Ellie follows as you exit the room and spots you. 

“Y/n?” 

You turn to her with red and glossy eyes. You had been crying, she knows it. 

“I saw you run out like there was a fire. Everything okay?” she asks, trying to seem as calm as she possibly can be. 

She expects you to rub it in her face of what had just happened, but to her surprise, you don’t. 

“Oh, um… I’m just looking for Roger.” you say as you try to catch your breath. 

Ellie had completely forgotten about Roger being right in front of her during the kiss. She hadn’t even realized he ran off. 

“Oh, yeah. I saw him rush off as well. Is he alright?” you ask already knowing the answer. 

“I just need to find him!” you say too loud, causing her to wince. 

“I… I think maybe he went back next door to the resort possibly.” 

Before she can say anything else, you ran off. She realizes you hadn’t said anything, because you didn’t want to hurt her. Well, Ellie’s hurt you plenty already. The only thing she can do now is make things right. Ellie looks back inside the busy room and spots Alex looking around in search of her. She ignores his pathetic glance and zooms off towards the resort. She hopes she isn’t too late, but luckily she’s not. 

She spots Roger walking from the entrance with his bags in his hands. He looks beyond upset as his face is flushed. She hurries as fast as she can just as Roger spots an empty cab waiting outside. 

“Roger!” she shouts, but he doesn’t hear her. 

He gets the door open as she shouts again. 

“Roger!” 

He looks around and suddenly spots Ellie. She watches as he rolls his eyes and tells the driver something. He shuts the door and waits there for her. 

“What could you possibly want?” he asks with a snarky tone. 

“We need to talk.” she says out of breath. 

“I have no idea what you could want to talk abo-”

“Now!” she shouts, causing him to shut his mouth and slowly nod. 

He tenses his jaw as he apologizes to the driver and grabs his bags. Ellie turns around and begins walking to a secluded bench that faces the water. Roger sits his bags down and joins her. Ellie stares out into the water as the moon hangs above high in the sky. The sound of the waves almost calm her nerves as she begins talking. 

“I know what you saw.” she says quietly, catching Roger off guard. 

Roger acts confused as he looks around and shakes his head. 

“Uh, I have no idea what you’re talking ab-” 

“The kiss.” she says fast, finally looking to him. “I saw them kiss too.” 

Roger goes silent as he tenses his jaw and sniffles. He looks down and shrugs. 

“Guess we’re out of the picture now, aren’t we?” he asks hurt. 

Ellie shakes her head and turns to face Roger more. 

“No! You see, you left before you could see how it all ended. I kept watching the whole horrible thing. You didn’t see the ending.” 

“What ending? Where they were laughing and kept sucking faces?” he asks loudly, anger hitting him. 

“The ending where y/n smacked him!” she shouts over him. 

Roger shuts his mouth and looks to her fast, his eyes wide. 

“She what?” he whispers. 

“She shoved him away and then slapped him… Hard. I thought the same thing you did, Rog. They both wanted it, but no. She didn’t want that. I saw the horrified look on her face, Roger. He’s just the same pig he’s apparently always been. It wasn’t her fault.” she slightly whispered the last part. 

Roger is still in shock as he looks away and is in deep thought. 

“You can hate Alex, you can even hate me, but please,” she begs. “Please don’t hate y/n. It was all him.” 

Roger looks to her and nods. He understands everything now and he feels horrible for what he said to you. You didn’t want that kiss and now he sees it. How blind he was for thinking that. He was a fool for jumping to conclusions, but he couldn’t help it. 

“I need to go talk to her. I need to tell her I know!” he says as he stands up fast. 

Ellie shoots up with him and grabs his arm. 

“Wait!” she exclaims. “What if there was another way to tell her? A way to tell both of them that I know… We know.” 

Roger narrows his eyes and shakes his head. 

“How?” 

Just then, Ellie has a mischievous smirk on her face as her brain thinks fast. 

“Alex needs a taste of his own medicine. His family thinks he’s this perfect angel, so why not show them that he’s not?” 

Roger finally understands her. 

‘You mean… At your wedding? Out him in front of everyone at the altar?” he asks, shocked by her evil plan. 

All of a sudden a smirk fills his face as he stares at her. 

“I love it.”

They had conspired a plan that night to out Alex the next day. Their cellphones were a big part of it as they secretly texted back and forth about their locations and times. Ellie had brought Roger to the beach spot they were to be married at. She showed him the perfect tiny location he could hide at until the ceremony. It was all set. 

That morning was hard for Roger. He so badly just wanted to hear your voice. He had his finger hovered over your name for what felt like forever until he had enough courage to press it. It rang and rang until you answered. Your voice was laced with sleep and anticipation. He squeezed his eyes closed and hangs up.

“She’ll know soon enough.” he whispered to himself.

Ellie had finished texting Roger that they were about to begin their trip down the aisle. She puts her phone away and walks to the front to face you. Somebody calls out that it’s time as you’re handed a bouquet. You look to your sister as you smile and she leans in to hug you hard. Ellie has to fight back tears as she whispers to you. 

“Everything’s going to be okay.” 

She watches as you pull away with a confused expression. You really had no idea that she knew. 

“What do you mean?” you ask fast. 

Ellie just admires you as she smiles when music begins playing. She so badly wants to tell you here and now, but she can’t. 

“That’s your cue.” she whispers, nervous for what’s to come next.

“And that’s where we are now!” shouts Ellie as she looks to Alex. “You cheating, lying, pig of a man!” she shouts, causing everyone to gasp. “I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last human here! You’re disgusting.” she hisses. 

Alex looks out to the crowd nervously as he shakes his head. 

“Ellie, I swear to you that I didn’t want to kiss him-” you go to say as you shake your head fast. 

Ellie turns to you and sadly smiles as she nods and grabs your hand to hold. 

“I know, sis. The fact that you were going to hide it just to make sure I was happy…” she trails off as tears stream down her face. 

“I never meant to hurt you.” you whisper.

“You didn’t. You just opened my eyes to finally see what kind of person he really is.” she says as she glances back at Alex. 

“I think I should go…” says Alex as he slowly begins backing away from them. 

“And where exactly do you think you’re going!?” shouts Roger as he storms towards Alex with his fists balled up. 

There's a fire in his eyes and you know that something bad is about to happen.

((Someone asked for a faq a while back so here ya go))

Please don’t bring real world stuff here. It’s stuff I’d rather not talk about and I’m sure others don’t want it to become too political too :)

Don’t ask about ships. As of now there’s only really one ship that might become canon but it’s between oc’s (that haven’t been introduced yet-) Mod doesn’t want to make this blog all about shipping

Mod note:

Before we get into the faq proper, mod wants to make something clear. This hasn’t been asked but it’s good information anyway.

Since this is a side blog, mod won’t be able to answer any responses to posts. This is so stupid and tumblr should fix this, but it was a restriction mod did not know existed when she made it a side blog instead of a main one. In hindsight mod should’ve made it a main blog but a side blog seemed easier at the time.

To everyone who has written a response: mod loves you all and is soooo sorry for not answering since most of the responses have been lovely. Mod has made answers for them in her head but didn’t want to confuse anyone by using her main! Ily 💜💜

Faq:

-Why did the sprites use to look different?

Mod used to have Adobe animate, however mod decided it was too expensive and got rid of it. That meant all the sprites had to be reworked into another program, and since Paul and Lily didn’t have any sprites, and Patryck had limited expressions, it wouldn’t look good if only they got transferred. So mod redrew all the sprites and now they look slightly different :p

-What program do you use?

As stated above, mod used to use adobe animate to use the sprites, but after the rework, mod is using Pain Tool Sai v2 (which is also what mod was using to draw every still before then) and transferring them into Gimp to make them gifs. This is a trick picked up from the Ask-Edd blog

-Who’s available for asks?

On normal days it’s the main four lads, Paul, Patryck, Lily, and Alex. However, on full moons Tom goes home to his mother’s house and is unavailable for questions

-Who’s Alex and Lily?

They’re both mods oc’s!!!!

Alex is Pat’s brother, and a good friend to Paul. He got shot by hunters and ran away because he thought he was a burden to them, and he hid for them for five years. However, due to the askers encouragement he went to them and everything worked out great!

Lily is Paul’s older sister! However, even though she’s 40, she was bitten by a vampire when she was 12 so she hasn’t physically aged since then

-When is the full moons?

Mod used this website to figure out when the full moons in real life is, and will use those days. However, on the second full moon mod didn’t notice the date, and that will probably not be the last time it happens As of now, the full moons also stretch to the day after. If that will stay or not, mod cannot say

-Who’s the alpha?

None of them! They don’t want to fight over the alpha spot, so they don’t consider themselves a pack. Just a handful of stray wolves who share territory. Tord would like to be the alpha and considers himself as such but Tom has already explained why that wouldn’t work

-Who’s what species?

Tord is a werewolf Matt is a werewolf Edd is a werewolf Alex is a werewolf Tom is human (but only Edd knows and he intends to keep that a secret) Paul is human Patryck is human Lily is a vampire

-Who’s okay with petting?

Only Edd and Matt likes pets. Tord will get angry if you get too close

-What’s Tord’s scarf?

He’d rather not talk about it, and will get emotional if asked about it

Yes! If it’s too weird though mod might not take it (mod knows the unpredictable nature of anons-) however mod has a hard time coming up with stuff that’s not okay before they happen, so go for it!

Mod made a post with them drawn out and where you can color pic each color for reference. Mod intends to keep this updated as more characters get introduced
