"Lucanis is a disaster bisexual" Varric was unromanceable and had more disaster bisexual energy than poor Lucanis. I'm increasingly convinced Mary Kirby truly meant it when she said writing romance isn't really her bag, because of her list, somehow Merrill's romance goes the hardest, and that's the tamest of base DA2. Lucanis being demi is not the problem, it's the fact that he's so unresponsive. Varric had better responses to Hawke's awful flirts and you couldn't even smooch him.
honestly i do feel a little bad for her in that regard because she probably didn't make the choice to have all the companions be romancable, which left her kind of stuck writing something outside her comfort zone in a game where so much was already a massive mess. everyone jokes about varric romance but not having a romantic arc gave him a chance to be more than a love interest. i don't know why im talking about him like he's a beautiful woman but you know what i mean. i think having That One Companion You Can't Romance is good for a game's ecosystem.
#ask#anonymous#my guess is the decision came late-ish in anticipation of bg3#ik it came out too late for it to have massive impacts but early access was very popular and it's not#SUPER out there that they may have taken some cues from it#like i love romance. it's fun. it's good for some characters and i think acting like it lowers a game's merit is silly#(i see people who get annoying about obsidian games say this a lot lol. and i like obsidian)#but not every character needs to have requited feelings for the player....
