Alexander is… dangerous.

Of course all active-duty and trained shadowhunters are dangerous, and if his abilities were what threaten Magnus, then it would be easily handled.

No, what’s dangerous about him is his softness.

Magnus is used the harsh and cold side of shadowhunters and until their eyes had connected, he’d thought Alexander to be the same.

Instead, Magnus is inundated with small grins, soft eyes and a gaze that follows him constantly.

Not with malicious intent or lust, but with affection and fondness.

Magnus is going out of his own damn mind, trying to figure out what Alexander’s plans are, what the clave has demanded of him.

Magnus is going to figure it out if he has to invade Alexander’s dreams and then he’s going to get rid of any and everything that is keeping him from fully enjoying the adoration directed towards him. Alexander is perhaps, the worst spouse to be saddled with in their current political climate. Because Magnus yearns to trust and keep him, but he lets him near while still pushing him away.

It hurts them both, Magnus knows it does.

If it were anyone else, Magnus would simply torture them or douse them with truth potion or something! But he can’t, because Alexander will look at him with dark hazel eyes that promise devotion and Magnus, he’s too wary to risk that

Alexander can’t fake everything he does and says. The way he acts, the way his body reacts and submits and the very heady delight that Alexander exudes when Magnus so much as touches him.

— even something as simple as Magnus brushing away a curl from Alexander’s brow has Magnus being graced with a dazzling, warm smile that is so natural Magnus wonders how he ever thought Alexander to be cold, even just for a few moments —

So not all of it is a lie.

Yet Magnus isn’t sure where the lie ends and truth begins, or how the bond growing between them will fare when Alexander is forced into a position where he has to chose between the clave and Magnus.

The closest that Alexander has come to true subterfuge, was when he snuck away from their bed — because Magnus was loathe to let Alexander sleep away from him and powerful enough to protect himself should the worst happen and also because Alexander had pouted at the suggestion of his own room — and Magnus had thought that finally, he was one step figuring out the trap and getting Alexander for real.

Instead, Magnus had discovered a sheepish Alexander in the kitchen.

True, the kitchen only existed because Magnus hadn’t realized how lucky he’d get with his nephilim spouse. A way to feed his political spouse without needing to interact directly with him several times a day.

Instead, Alexander has hardly had a reason to use the kitchen.

Not when he’s so delighted by each meal Magnus summons and has even leaned over several times, happy to be fed a bite from Magnus own plate and utensils.

It’s so shockingly different from when Magnus remembers the nephilim throwing out the plates he and his fellow downworlders had used, that Magnus can’t help but bask in it

Magnus knows that Alexander had stepped into his study — he has everything warded so that he is aware of every one of Alexander’s movements — but he finds him in the kitchen.

Instead of Magnus’ personal spellbooks, or perhaps some of Magnus’ personal correspondence — things of lesser importance, left out as a lure — Alexander is simply leaning against the counter. The same counter he once placed a vial of aphrodisiac while laughing a mere handful of weeks before. There are books there, but they aren’t books Magnus’ recognizes which means their importance is small.

Alexander finally seems to have found what he’s been looking for because he hums, satisfaction in his tone as he turns — away from Magnus, not that Magnus can be seen through his veil of magic — and opens the cabinets.

Alexander doesn’t mutter to himself, but he does hum.

So lightly that Magnus can barely hear it.

It’s only after Alexander has begun to set out ingredients that Magnus lets an orb of magic activate and retreats to their… his bed.

He watches as Alexander carefully begins to measure and at one point, he has to bite his lip to stop from smiling when Alexander ends up with a touch of flour in his curls.

There is a moment of angry cursing when Alexander is fighting with the stove and Magnus blinks in shock when a stele appears in Alexander’s hand.

Magnus waits, still and magic pooling, waiting to see what runes Alexander is about to activate, putting aside the worry and wonder of how Alexander got his stele in the first place.

Instead of activating any of his own runes, Alexander ignores the stove — that Magnus is only now remembering requires magic to turn on — and turns over the cast-iron skillet he’s been trying to heat. Magnus isn’t sure what runes Alexander draws, but whatever it works enough that Alexander almost drops the pan, hissing as he sets it down.

The handle of the pan seared his palm and Magnus hisses in sympathy and the urge to go soothe the wound and heal it. Instead, he gets to watch as Alexander tugs up the tanktop he’d worn to bed and activates his iratze with a grimace. It’s the only one he activates until he hesitates and it’s clear he’s trying to decide something and then, with his cheeks a clear pink through the image Magnus is watching, he activates what Magnus knows is a flexibility runes.

Then, seemingly satisfied he casually sets the stele down on the counter and he leaves it there, walking away to grumpily slide sausages into the pan.

Magnus is transfixed, watching Alexander for the next forty-five minutes and it isn’t until he’s watching Alexander carefully set two places at the table, that Magnus realizes that this isn’t just his shadowhunter hungry… Alexander purposefully got up to make them both breakfast.

Glancing at the clock and seeing that it’s eleven — when Magnus most often rises after a late night —

Magnus blinks and then realizes that while Alexander no doubts has guessed that Magnus is monitoring him — the stele hasn’t moved since Alexander first set it down — that Alexander has no way of knowing the extent.

Alexander thinks that Magnus’ hesitation is because of poison, not because he’s overwhelmed and nearly furious with how much he longs to know just how much of this is real.

Alexander is offering himself up, a taste-tester in good faith. A way to assure Magnus that the food is safe for him, that this is something Alexander wants to share with him, but not something meant to harm him.

It breaks something in Magnus, then.

Something that has long been kept underwraps and Magnus knows it’s not poisoned, but he still reaches out and feeds a single bite of each portion to Alexander and then a sip of each of his drinks.

Alexander winces on the orange juice and his face screws up and he gives the glass an angry look before snatching it.

“Something wrong?” Magnus asks, because he knows it’s not poison but Alexander seems upset.

“Sour—” his boy murmurs and he looks almost devastated, “I forgot to check their flavor and uh--” he pauses here and then shrugs, sheepishly. “I just used my hands to juice them. I kind of forgot about the pulp and seeds.”

Magnus blinks and then looks at Alexander’s still untouched glass and sure enough, there are some rather disconcerting chunks floating in it.

Alexander shrugs, sheepishly and takes both glasses to the sink, dumping them with silent frustration that Magnus fights not to coo over.

“Mimosas!” Magnus proposes without even thinking it through. “My contribution since you’ve done such a lovely job. And how could it be your fault that they're sour, when I provided the fruit?”

Alexander sends him an unimpressed look but there is a smile in the curl of his lips and he nods, so used to Magnus’ magic by now that he doesn’t even flinch when two glasses appear in his hand.

Magnus waits to be offered one and then — with an almost sly smirk — Alexander takes a sip of one and then carefully hands it to Magnus, something smug in the pleased contentment of his face.

The rest of the food — besides the orange juice at least — is delicious.

The lamb sausages are seared beautifully — almost as well done as Alexander’s hand was — and the pancakes have crisp edges and fluffy middles, a hint of vanilla coming through under the veritable mountain of strawberries they’re under.

There’s is one moment where Alexander runs out of fruit and is looking at Magnus’ own plate with the kind of strategic contemplation Magnus has seen on the battlefield.

As Magnus is quite enjoying his meal and has no desire to wage a war with his husband over the breakfast table, he summons a fresh bowl of strawberries and without thinking, plucks one.

He holds it out and it’s only when he sees pleased surprise that Magnus realizes what he’s done.

Before he can decide to commit or retract the berry, Alexander’s lips close over his fingers and teeth delicately glide against the pads of his fingertips.

“Delicious.” Alexander tells him, a smile on his berry stained lips and Magnus is helpless but to offer him another, hopelessly charmed by every single action this morning… except perhaps when Alexander burnt himself.

As Alexander takes a sip of his own drink and Magnus takes a bite of food, Magnus can’t help but think that these small joys are divine, certainly worth tempting fate for.

Rumor Has It by Lecrit: A human AU which is not something I'm generally a fan of, but Lecrit just writes so well that I gobble this up anyway.

Summary:

Magnus widens his eyes at him, silently asking him to just give him this one. Alec simply curves one of his stupidly perfect eyebrows in response, a simple gesture that carries the weight of a call for challenge. “Looks like you’re gonna have to postpone your wedding for now,” Maia giggles next to him. Magnus huffs, flexing his jaw. “Oh, it’s on, Lightwood,” he mouths at him.

Also, because I suck at keeping to my own rules, I'm adding a second fic rec that I maybe love just as much by Lecrit aka the way to a chef's heart. But, in my defense, both fics are great and one is about cooking and baking. I am weak when it comes to food, okay?

Anyway, summary:

Summary:

There were three unspoken rules to the Manhattan Institute of Higher Learning, New York’s premier private K-12 school: 1) Respect that the space under the football bleachers was for sex, and only for sex. 2) Don’t eat the cafeteria meatloaf. 3) Never mention Mr. Bane to Mr. Lightwood or vice versa, unless you wanted the whole class to get extra homework.

careless curses by @alexanderlightweight: I don't know what to say that isn't already stated in the summary except I love it when alexanderlightweight writes dark themes. (Or just writes in general).

Summary:

The Lightwood family has been cursed by death for generations and now, Alec lives with death hovering over him. Sometimes life is the curse and death the reward.

Ten Not-Dates That Magnus Bane Spends Falling In Love with Alec Lightwood by Aria_Lerendeair: Magnus is hilariously done at the start of this fic.

Summary:

Magnus was going to have words with the Clave. They would be decidedly unpleasant words, and they might be accompanied by a few very pointed magic blasts and maybe even curses.  They deserved it. Another Lightwood in charge of the New York Institute?

Multi-chapter fics or series:

All the Costs are Even by tsujiharu: A fic that deserves more love imo, is this Pride and Prejudice retelling. Also, I'm just now realizing that most of these are Human AU's despite me being notorious for generally not liking them, lol.

Summary:

A modern day Pride and Prejudice AU, in which a disgruntled lawyer and an aloof entrepreneur can't seem to get over their pride (and prejudices?) and admit their very obvious attraction to each other.

love is a four-letter word by @la-muerta: Do la-muerta fics need to be recced? Probably not because I suspect most people have read them. Am I still going to to rec them because I love them? Yes! So here is another lovely human AU fic where first impressions maybe aren't what they seem.

Summary:

Magnus knows he's one of the best editors in the business. So when the bigoted director of the publishing house he works for gives their grandson's best friend the promotion Magnus deserved to get, he decides that it's the last straw. Magnus intends to go out with a bang and take his new boss down with him — but he didn't mean for it to happen quite so literally.

Crush On You by @gospi: A FTH fic of 2023 that had me laughing at how salty Alec is about crushing on Magnus. A lot of fun.

Summary:

An ancient, unsuccessful recipe for starting new relationshipsalliances: A dash of rumors. A sprinkle of heritage. A smidgen of jealousy. A dollop of chaotic disasters. A shitload of assumptions. Let it simmer. Enjoy!

My True Love Gave To Me by AlxSteele: Christmas repeats itself endlessly for Magnus and while it's annoying he does end up learning a new side from the awful baked Alec Lightwood. Surprise, he isn't all that awful.

Summary:

Magnus Bane had a plan, a perfect Christmas Eve just like always. Hang out with his friends, bask in the Christmas Spirit. Then everything went wrong. Now he's stuck reliving the same day again and again and again. The bright side? Maybe Alec Lightwood isn't as terrible as Magnus always thought.

A fic that I am sure most people have already read because it is wonderful (which is the reason why I didn't add it last month even though it's a wing fic) is Fall Without Wings by @notcrypticbutcoy. It's a brilliant fic that's all.

Hii!! so 2024 is right around the corner, happy new year yayay. Actually, if I think too much about it I think I'll start crying cause like what do you mean we're less than 42 hours from staring a new year?!! 2023 doesn't feel real tbh time in general doesn't feel real but yeah anyways I'll save that convo for another time. I'm here today to reflect on all the gifsets I've made throughout this year, which let me add, has been A LOT. I'm going to start by sharing some fun stats (yes renee I'm copying you <33), and then I'll do a fun top 5 of my fave gifsets, and to finish it off I'd also like to use this to shout out some of my fave people and creators on this hellsite cause you all made my 2023 so much better and I love you all for that <333

that one dnp gifset: I think most people know that I was and still am a big dan and phil fan, and that I spent most of my teenage years obsessing over them and giffing them and only them. Well, they went on hiatus and they stopped having a big impact on my life util they decided to come back and ruin my life again (in a good way). This gifset was the first time I giffed them since like idk 2019/2020, and it does mean a lot to me :') it's not really about the concept and the coloring, I chose this one to be apart of my top 5 for sentimental reasons, and I think that's valid.

give your friendships the magic you would give a romance: once again, sentimental reasons. when I read this quote on loveless it just spoke to me in so many levels. One of the things I love the most about heartstopper is the importance they give to friendship and I just had to make something that highlighted that and I think it turned out super good.

I think nellie loves him: well, now I think I snapped with this one akdhjahak I just love it so much. the coloring.. the heartstopper tv scenes with the heartstopper comic scenes, like chef's kiss, just perfect. of course this is not an original idea so I'd love to thank @rose-nobles for inspiring this gifset <33

mr. ajayi loves museum dates with his grumpy bf: and just like that we are back to sentimental reasons ahdhkas. well, this was one of the first gifsets I made when season two came out and it blew up. I've never had that many notes on a gifset, and honestly I think it's well deserved cause the coloring is good and I had finally just figured out how to sharpen gifs, so yeah love that for me.

I'm bi actually: I had so much fun making this one. the amount of bi coded elements and colors I included on this, I WAS ON A MISSION. the fact I made the font wobbly hsjgdjaka, I love love this gifset.

“I need to go,” Alec said as he pushed himself away from the wall. “I can't– I can't be here right now. I just can't.” “Alec–” Alec shook his head and continued. “I don't even know why I came. I should be prepping for tomorrow anyway. I've got a fuck ton of apples to wash and pie crust to make.” Izzy fixed Alec with a wry smile as she wrapped her arms around herself for warmth. “You're still going to make apple pie, huh?” “Of course I am,” Alec said with a humorless laugh, like it was obvious. He tugged his jacket closed and started down the steps, turning back once he reached the sidewalk to say, “Call me if you get arrested.” Despite being a bystander to Magnus' tumultuous relationship history and hookups for the past few years, and the heartbreak he had suffered because of it, Alec was still going to bake an apple pie for him. Because that's what you do when you're hopelessly in love with your best friend: you bake desserts that you loathe just to see him smile, even if he'll never know what they truly stand for. _ This is a story about college parties, apple pies, camping trips, and two best friends being idiots in love.

About the TLND Sequel...

First and foremost, thank you - for all the asks and the kind words. Your messages and ongoing interest mean the world to me, and I genuinely appreciate each and every one of them.

I understand there have been many inquiries about this and I apologize for not being able to respond to all of them individually. I'll address it here instead.

To clarify, what I have is merely an idea— a nucleus scene and some classic music that sparked this whole thing. There's no assurance that it will evolve into a fic. If such a plan materializes, you'll be the first to know.

Some time back, I mentioned an interest in writing about a deeply personal subject— rape/sexual violence. This is a topic I work on (in my professional life) on a daily basis. As you're aware, my writing often aims to educate my audience, in whatever capacity I can. Unfortunately, there are numerous misconceptions surrounding rape/SA, even among survivors, owing to the pervasive misinformation in the world. This is why I wanted to write about it. A story not just touching upon it as a plot point, but delving into it comprehensively. It deserves this kind of attention, I think.

The potential for a sequel, if it happens, would center on Minerva and this challenging theme. I'm fully aware that some readers may find this unsettling, and that's a sentiment I've confronted before. However, this wasn't a conscious decision on my part; rather, it came to me randomly and it felt right. Should a sequel materialize, it would revolve around Minerva (and her family) navigating the journey of healing. I can assure you that, irrespective of the storyline, her parents and siblings will stand by her with unwavering support—a privilege not often granted to survivors.

As I said, it's angsty. But it's also difficult. That's the right word for it, I think. Difficult. It's difficult to read and it's going to be so very difficult to write. Keeping this in mind, I really don't want to go through the bullshit I did last time with TLND where people take sides and get EXTREMELY opinionated on how the characters should react. I';'m not willing to deal with that kind of bullying for a story like this.

Nevertheless, this topic holds profound significance for me. So, I do hope I find the strength to write it. The key thing to me is that this story is affirming. That's an important word/concept we must learn. If we see characters like malec and rafe and max and all our favourites affirming such an experience, I feel like it could be helpful - whether you've been through something like this or not.

You know I never write a sequel if I didn't plan for it in the beginning, but as always, I listen to my characters and not the other way around. So, if this story is adamant and demands to be told, I will of course write it. I don't know when and how, but I will do my best. Until then, please be patient with me.

a fandom/ship you've only written for once: I sorted my fics by pairing and found an Isabelle Lightwood / Jace Wayland one shot I wrote a while back. That was certainly... interesting. I'm not linking it. If you're that determined, find it yourself. It's not good. 💀😂 It was the result of the last time I went on a writers weekend and challenged myself to write something far out of my comfort zone (at the time).

your favourite fic in the fandom/ship with the most works: I'm going to take "most works" to mean that I've written the most works for. Probably Where Summer Meets Frost (KimChay), which I eventually intend to spin off into its own original story if I can ever finish Desperate Measures first. 😅

the fic you wish more people read: I don't think I really have one! I adore getting comments and kudos, but I write for me. It's always fun to see which fics surprise me, though. If I had to name one, I think Like a Land of Dreams (Malec), the little series I wrote for the Tarot Challenge, is a bit of a dark horse. There aren't many fics out there where Magnus chooses to be mortal with Alec, rather than Alec choosing immortality with Magnus. It was an interesting concept to rotate around in my mind. It's also the first fic where I began playing with more flowery language and allowing myself to write a bit more dramatically like I really wanted to.

the fic you agonised over the most: Probably Desperate Measures (KimChay), which I've been working on for a whole ass YEAR and I only have THREE CHAPTERS LEFT! SO CLOSE!!! But From Behind the Stars (Malec) gets a close second considering I never actually finished it. Whoops. 😬 I'm sensing a pattern where I tend to lose steam at around 80-90k words.

the fic that sprang fully-formed from your mind with minimal effort: Both Simple Little Secrets (KimChay) and Cotton Candy Crush (KimChay) happened like this. I seem to have an affinity for fics that start out as shameless crack smut.

fic I am proud of: (forgot this one and had to edit it in--whoops!) Probably the Fucking Fridays series (KimChay) in general, because it's just 31,000 words of solid, shameless smut that @staykimchay and I wrote. There are just so many different situations and ideas and dynamics. What an incredible accomplishment and learning experience. Go us.

In light of the final chapter release I've been rereading my way through ITSB for the past week. Am I understanding correctly – when in the ending author's note of chapter 23 you mentioned finding some way to get ITSB into paperback – that you're going to attempt to publish ITSB?? Because throughout this entire read through I've been thinking on loop about asking whether or not you plan to change a couple names and publish ITSB as an original work of fiction. I would love to own a paperback/hardcover copy of this book.

nope. no filing off the serial numbers for this fic and publishing it. it's owned by the malec fandom and will stay that way.

(and let's be real, as much as i love itsb it would make a *terrible* published book lol. if i were to publish it, there would be heavy edits and cutting out like 350k of the words 😂 i indulged hardcore in fandom tropes, added in scenes cause they made me happy, and lingered over things that would have been glossed over in published fiction. i've written enough books to have a pretty good handle on what works!)

what i was saying with that note is that i really, really, really want a paper copy of itsb on my shelf and wish i could find a way to make that a reality for everyone who wants it too. at this point though, i don't see how i could make that happen besides providing a master file for y'all to use as you please.

logistically, a printed version of itsb would need to be 3-4 volumes for it to be readable in terms of font size and physically holding it (without straining muscles lol). and in all the research i did, that would likely cost each person over $100 USD. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. *sigh*

soooo, yeah. i would love a printed version but it's probably going to up to each of us to decide how badly we want it ;) check out this ask for a few more thoughts on that ♡

How good was the shadowhunters series? I read some of the books back in the day and enjoyed them!

well it depends on what you're focusing on. most of us were watching because of malec, which got a lot more attention and development in the show than it did in the books. overall it wasn't the best show ever made, and I didn't particularly like s3, but it's a fun show to watch if you want to pass the time

it holds a special place in my heart because it was my first experience being in a fandom where the cast and crew loved us instead of treating us like annoying freaks, and they actively listened to us and tried to improve the queer representation they were giving us when they realized the majority of their fans were queer. they treated us with so much care and respect, and when we fought to save it from cancelation and got a 2 hour special from netflix they focused it wholly on the malec wedding as a show of love to us. the vibes of that renewal campaign were pretty similar to what they are with saveofmd

if you haven’t, i recommend reading the novella books:

- the bane chronicles is fun especially if you like magnus.

- tftsa was so cute i loved her (read nothing but shadows before you read tlh)!!

- ghosts of the shadow market is definitely super important for world building for tlh and twp, so i strongly recommend reading it before them (it could be a little boring at times, i admit. but jessa is adorable). read cast long shadows and every exquisite thing before you read tlh. the rest is a lot of world building for kit’s background and jessa.

- OH OH also read the tec series if you haven’t (it follows malec) and i think it’ll eventually connect to twp.

- i believe cassie has these short stories about the tlh cast set before chain of gold. i remember reading them every month on her newsletter before the book came out. i think you can find them on her website? they’re not super important but they do get referenced once in a while in tlh

Okay I'm gonna start by saying that I had a strange relationship w TDA. I mentioned some of this in my initial post but I'm just gonna go through everything for continuity sake, if you will. Last summer I intended to finish the 3 series before my semester started. I got through all of TMI and TID but finished only LM and 150-ish pages of LoS. I waited till this summer to pick back up. I remember feeling bitter when I started LM because it was strange to have a modern-set book that didn't focus on my fave TMI gang (I watched the CoB movie religiously when I was younger and, before I knew better, watched the show weekly). It took me a while for Emma to grow on me and I initially had a hard time keeping track of all of the Blackthorns because there were so many of them. What kept me going were all of the connections to Mr. Poe (yes, I just called him that. deal with it.) I've started rambling so let me summarize this portion by saying that TDA didn't snatch me up until mid-LoS. okay, onward.

QoAaD was so reminiscent of CoHF and I loved it very much. WARNING SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO MAY READ THIS FOR SOME UNGODLY REASON. I appreciate the importance of the Thule portion and know the book would be shit without it, but, despite it still being fantastical, the apocalyptic vibe was not my fave. It was nice to get Livvy back for a bit (can I just say how shocking it was to have her death right after Robert? cause I feel like cc v rarely kills important characters so I thought Robert was fulfilling the death requirement yk?) and I LOVE to hate Sebastian. I'm gonna say something crazy here. I love Kit and Kieran more than I love a majority of the Blackthorns. Kit has been my fave character from this trilogy and I am not ashamed to admit it. The entire Ty Livvy spell shit was crazy because I completely felt Kit and wasn't angry at him for not outright saying that it was a bad idea, especially given the situation. I just can't believe cc had me expecting them to be fully in love with each other by then end, ONLY FOR THEM TO NOT EVEN BE ON SPEAKING TERMS (yes I know I need to be up to date w SoBH, I just need business day or two to marinate in my TDA emotions). The battle was epic, Julien's meeting was genius, Kieran is a great king, and the Malec wedding nearly had me sobbing. I'm gonna stop here w my thoughts on QoAaD cause it's getting out of hand. I am so sorry I am typing you up a full essay.

Predictions:

watch cc give us a 3rd plot that gets crazy because of some questionable heavenly fire incident (I mean, technically all three series plots that I've read have involved it if you count Jace's affect on Jem).

I'm super worried about a main character death because I think it would shatter me but it's also probably necessary? idk I dont wanna think about it

I also feel like something crazy is gonna happen to Aline and Helen because although they were literally exiled, nothing too traumatic happened to them in the main line of the story that the reader got to directly experience

not a prediction but truly me BEGGING ON MY KNEES for Jace and Kit content. I need them to be drama Herondales together. Also, Jace literally told him to come to him for personal advice so Jace helping Kit deal w his relationship w/feelings for Ty would be ideal (I really don't know how that would happen but let a person dream)

What followed was months and months of reading through all of your works and being amazed at the talent you held. You quickly became my favorite author and I was in awe of your capacity to create such deep, creative, loveable and sometimes angsty af stories. And then we became friends. And I'm so glad we did. You are an unbelievably kindhearted, thoughtful, funny, smart person and to have met you and spent time with you is something I'll always be grateful for. Now you're so much more than my favorite author. I am SO grateful for whatever force or fate that brought me to you. I've always believed stories bring people together and I've met so many amazing people because of tsc, but I never thought my own stories would help me meet amazing people. It's one of the reasons why I feel so motivated to write.

Honestly coming from being heavy in the Sterek fandom for years we THRIVED on AUs. like, sure, werewolves, fun. But also Merthur, Destiel, Malec, etc. big name ships (with their own fandom problems, but that's not the point lol) with heavy supernatural content very specific to each source materiel. That's fun for a while, but it gets stale QUICK. Usually fandoms live and die off of AUs. It's one of the most fun and interesting and creative parts of fandoms. I've also literally never seen this happen in any other fandom and it is the weirdest, mind boggling situation. I can't fathom why anyone would WANT to stunt themselves from being creative. From asking, 'What if?' That's one of the best parts of fandoms. Just speculating and pondering. ESPECIALLY if the source material lets you down, you always have the what ifs to fall back on for entertainment. It used to be, honestly, fandom could create such interesting content that the show commonly failed in comparison. It just couldn't hold a candle to how people can create such beautiful, interesting things out of virtually nothing. Maybe it came with the death of weekly releases, where we spent a week each episode hypothesizing. IDK I wish there was a way to change it but. Shows almost over so. IDK maybe when the show is dead people will get off everyone's back and move to a new show, so the ones who are interested in being creative will be able to create in peace.

Don't like don't read is a very common statement but it shouldn't be needed for just everything ever in a specific ship. Why are you even in a ship to begin with if you're gonna hate on every possible thought. It's as if people can't separate fact from fiction? Canon from fanon? There's nothing wrong at all with making stuff up for the fun of it. If you only want source material content... go watch the show? Why are you participating in fandom if everyone is suddenly not allowed to change one fraction of an inch of it? I understand appreciating the source materiel, but I also don't see why it's a problem to take that source materiel and flip it on it's head. Why do people care so much...? IDK. Okay....these two being competent at whatever job or hobby they have, season one levels of flirting from Magnus (that warm the marshmallow centre of Alec), a sprinkling of humour (be it dark or dry as the desert), holding each other in ways that scream 'cherished' (like cuddling on the couch, leaning back against a solid warmth as they're being held, tucked protectively into their chest), having the story set partially or wholly outside of New York or even the US can be fun, them being exes (amicable or otherwise) that cross paths again unexpectedly (because I don't see a great deal of those ones), anything that flips a trope is always a nice surprise, Alec getting a kick out of Magnus' jewellery (or vice versa?), and if I confess to having had the urge to read (or even write) plots involving anything from line dancing country clubs to Regency-era family feuds, gothic horror to underwater kingdoms, I hope you realise that almost anything goes when it involves Malec falling or being in love - so have at it if you think of something niche or quirky!😅
