First actual post of 2025!

I just want to take the time to ramble a bit about TNG. The Name Game is very special to me if I’m being honest, it’s the first fic I’ve EVER written (not counting drabbles and the random oneshots rotting in my google docs) and it’s been such a surprise to see so many people enjoying it. It’s such a weird feeling, so many people liking my writing and art feels so surreal

TNG has only been out for six months and it’s already surpassed every expectation I had of it, and I want to thank all of you guys for that :)) I never expected my lil health comfort fic to attract this much attention, it’s a little scary haha!

That’s truly what made me write this fic though, (skip this part if you don’t wanna hear about my health struggles 👍👍👍👍)

I’ve always been disabled but I had no idea I was up until maybe late 2022 to early 2023? But my health really started to decline throughout 2023-24 because 11 years of professional level circus training when I shouldn’t have been working out at all finally caught up with my piece of shit body and my symptoms got worse really really fast. And that was really fucking scary, and it’s definitely taken a toll on my mental health too. So, for comfort, I decided to turn to the dca lmao, I remember being incredibly inspired by the song Happy Hare by Yaelokre and that started this whole thing. So, I just put together the vibes I got from that song, a fnaf-esc plot along with the dca and my own struggles with my disabilities and boom! The name game woo!!!

It’s really special to me, I don’t think I would’ve been able to go through the whole medical process as well as I did without it (that’s not to say it hasn’t been a hellhole cause uh yeah healthcare kinda sucks for the disabled (and afab people) but that’s a whole other rant for another day)

Does this count as a love letter to my own fic? Oh well, I just wanted to ramble on about my feelings about it. I’ll probably write more fics after I finish TNG but I think it’ll always hold a special place in my heart <33

I wanna hear your thoughts!

SURE THING! (spoilers below) (also this isn't a proper essay so I get to be messy 👍)

So first of all. Rain world naming conventions seem to follow a somewhat consistent pattern, but the pattern varies.

Let's divide them up by types for iterators specifically: Type A names are those that involve a number, measurement, or count of objects. Type B names involve concepts and actions. Now we can list all the known iterators (since iterators started this tangent) in those categories.

Type A: Five Pebbles, Seven Red Suns, Sliver of Straw (Implied 1-count), Epoch of Clouds (implied time measurement)

Type B: Looks To The Moon, No Significant Harassment, Unparalleled Innocence, Chasing Wind, Pleading Intellect, Wandering Omen, Gazing Stars, Secluded Instinct

There's a few things we could gather from this, notably that "Type B" names are more prevalent, at least in this list. Sometimes these particular names are characteristic of their owners, such as Gazing Stars holding a fascination with ascension, while Secluded Instinct is optimistic and excited about the future. Which to me thematically opposes the whole mission statement of iterators, and thus it's a bit of a hidden (unusual, taboo) instinct to have hope. Other times these names seem ironic, as seen with Unparalleled Innocence's apparently mean spirited nature. Looks to the Moon feels like a happy accident with how fitting it is, since she's the Local Sector's "Big Sis Moon" and her peers look up to her. There's a possibility they named her Looks to the Moon because their city would be resting on top of her can which would have it face the moon.

To note, Moon and Wandering Omen are both older superstructures. "Type B" names might be tied to more antiquated models of iterators, but there's not much evidence to support it. Something my roommate @acewarden (incredible brainstorming & lore discussion pal) mentioned offhand is that Five Pebbles goes by Erratic Pulse as a communication alias, and that if the name seniority thing is true, he could be trying to seem older and more experienced. But again, that's conjecture.

"Type A" names are a bit of a mystery, but could be tied to a date, an event, a location... In particular I'm reminded of ancient Nahua naming conventions, which you can read about here. Keep in mind this article includes old excerpts/quotes from a missionary, so there is some dated and insensitive language, but it has examples of what I'm reminded of:

Names referring to particular time units/periods/seasons eg Maxihuitl (“Five Years”), Xopantzin (“Venerable Raining Season”)

Anyhow, the article supposes that these names not only marked the day a naming ceremony took place, but the potential fortune of the individual being named due to the date. I have to wonder if there was a similar reasoning for these "Type A" names. some Nahua names related to a day on a specific intersection of their calendar cycle. In Rain World, THE Cycle was an unavoidable and religiously significant aspect of the ancients lives, I don't see why they wouldn't also construct their naming scheme on a similar principle.

In fact I definitely see aesthetic influence from ancient Mexica art in how the ancients depict and dress themselves, and it's not unlikely the developers pulled from it for their inspiration. Take these for example:

Side note just for me, I have a sneaking suspicion the way dates are logged in Rain World is similar to some things I noticed while looking into the Mexica Calendar but maybe that's a reach. I won't dive into it here EDIT: I couldn't find anything satisfactory so I'm dropping that theory

Now we can take a look at the Echoes, which were once ancients. Since they were the ones to build iterators in the first place, their names would inform their super computer's names. Of course. (of course.)

Note the difference in these names, they are either in two distinct parts and/or reflect a "positional" intermediary term. Ancient's canonically had a very complex and hierarchical naming scheme, with many variations of honorifics and titles that were always formally addressed in their complete entirety, but for echoes we get the base names. (Also note I'll use a ; to break up the names so they're more convenient to list.)

Echoes: Nineteen Spades; Endless Reflections, Four Needles under Plentiful Leaves, Droplets upon Five Large Droplets, A Bell; Eighteen Amber Beads, Six Grains of Gravel; Mountains Abound, Two Sprouts; Twelve Brackets, Twelve Beads among Burning Skies, Distant Towers upon Cracked Earth, Rhinestones beneath Shattered Glass, Eight Spots on a Blind Eye

Note that we see vastly more "Type A" names! Additionally there's a prevalence of size or measurement related terms that emphasize some kind of grandiosity. Things like Abound, Large, Endless, Plentiful.... I believe that, while the literal counts (Five, Six, Eight, etc.) are indicators of something specific, the adjectives here sound like they serve a fortune bearing and/or self-aggrandizing purpose. lol.

One thing I do notice is that some families? groups? in the ancient society (as outlined by the pearls) have numbers or concepts tied to them. Such as the house of Eight or the house of Braids. One ancient is noted as being "of pure Braid Heritage" However these are not included in the base name, and are instead tacked on as a separate title, indicating the names themselves are not of familial origin.

Let's break some of these Echo names into their constituent parts. (With color)

Red being the measurement itself, orange being the object that conveys the measurement/units of measurement, purple being an intermediary term, green being a secondary location/object noun, blue being what I'll call the "grand element."

Six Grains of Gravel; Mountains Abound

Twelve Beads among Burning Skies

A Bell; Eighteen Amber Beads

Distant Towers upon Cracked Earth

Four Needles under Plentiful Leaves

You could argue "A Bell" is instead read "A Bell" but I DIGRESS!

Not every name has a measurement association, but they do consistently have some kind of object. I'm led to wonder if some names are earned or altered later in life. Maybe they have absolutely nothing to do with a calendar cycle and instead reflect the status, history, and hierarchy of the supposed individual. Come to think of it, that would make sense. Nineteen Spades; Endless Reflections recounts they had progeny, and well, what are children if not a reflection of an organism into the future? Twelve Beads among Burning Skies says that they were "an angry fool." I find Six Grains of Gravel; Mountains Abound evocative in the sense that, maybe as an individual they are "Gravel" but their family/accomplishments/legacy is so bountiful it's considered mountainous. But that's a stretch.

I would be remiss not to mention my favourite ancients. The following are Pearl excerpts of their full name and associated titles.

"In this vessel is the living memories of Seventeen Axes, Fifteen Spoked Wheel, of the House of Braids, Count of 8 living blocks, Counselor of 16, Grand Master of the Twelfth Pillar of Community, High Commander of opinion group Winged Opinions, of pure Braid heritage, voted Local Champion in the speaking tournament of 1511.090, Mother, Father and Spouse, Spiritual Explorer and honorary member of the Congregation of Balanced Ambiguity. Artist, Warrior, and Fashion Legend." ((Deep Magenta pearl, Shaded Citadel))

And my all time favourite:

"It is with Honor I, Eight Suns-Countless Leaves, of the House of Six Wagons, Count of no living blocks, Counselor of 2, Duke of 1, Humble Secretary of the Congregation of Never Dwindling Righteousness, write this to You." ((The rest of this one is really funny, please read the Deep Pink farm arrays pearl if you have time.))

To come full circle, to me, iterator names sound like they're composed of only half of an ancient's name. Make of that what you will, I think it says something about the two way parent-child relationship between ancients and iterators. A more diminutive/simplified name for their creations? Likely. A shortened name for a respected figure and venerated grounds? Also likely. Shrugs.

All this to say that without access to more concrete concepts from the ancient's society, we're left with a lot of guesswork. Still super fun to pick apart, though!

Favorites are Law and Zoro! I got invested because of the mystery of Law, but Zoro kept me alive for the 500 episodes or so that it took before Law became a regular character and Zoro honestly had my heart right from the start. Lovely guy.

As for ships I got lured into this whole one piece marathon because of a KidLaw fic I randomly chose to read at three in the morning. I've barely seen anything of Kid yet but I can tell the two of them have the type of dynamic I enjoy, just from the short interactions they had at the start. They're rivals, they're bickering, they're throwing insults and death threats while smirking and grinning and half-laughing but they team up and save each other when bigger fish come to eat them. They look like fucking weirdo's and fan art does them so much justice.

Then there was suddenly SmoLaw that I did not expect at all when Smoker was first introduced. I was intrigued by his enormous, gloved choking hands and fell for the way he and Law save each other's lives over and over while insisting it's either against their will, purely transactional or completely meaningless.

Like, when Law gives Smoker a hint (at the price of torture) that all he needs to save them both is his heart back from Vergo, and Smoker gets back into the fight despite heavy damage, letting himself get even more wounded just to steal Law's heart back, that's some meaningful shit despite what either of them say.

Warlord Pirate Captain and Marine vice Admiral literally having a constant power struggle about who owes the other their life next, that's a very intriguing starting point for a ship. The size difference and the whole "I should be arresting you right now" thing does not hurt either. Fan art do these two justice too.

Then there's ZoSan because they seem to just be made to fit. I already posted some screenshots today but here's more:

So those are the ones I've invested myself in so far but there are SO many characters and I'm open minded.

Zoro and Law are my favorites but so far I'm not feeling them as a ship. It's like having two shades of my favorite color. It's a lot of what I like but not enough contrast between them to make it fun. Not opposed, just not sold either. I really want them to be weird and awkwardly stoic mission besties that match each other's special interest freak though. They've got that going on in the arc I'm watching now because they're almost always shown in frame at the same time, same vibe, giving various non-reactions in the background of events. That's a perfect dynamic for a weird platonic mission bestie thing. If they wanna flirt when they're drunk I'd be supportive 👍

I've actually been planing to make a ask blog for c drista from my drista au and was wondering if have any tips for ask blogs or anything :3 (not a cc dteam supporter btw)

oh boy HMMM prewarning this is not gonna be well written brains not braining today im not really sure what tips to give here - i can say, the most important thing imo is to just have fun! choose a character you know and like and get started! and don't feel pressured to answer any asks or anything if you don't want to AND post things that aren't responding to asks! it's your blog, knock yourself out! ill give a rundown though on my thoughts making my ctommy asks blog if that helps at all! 👍 so when making the ask blog i have for ctommy i chose him because i know how to play him over something like tumblr - i know how that version of c!tommy acts, how he'd type, how he'd talk, etc. i knew i didn't want to be limited solely to tommy though and also i wanted it to be like c!tommy was ACTUALLY making an ask blog - so i was like - what would he do and why would he want to make a tumblr blog? - servers getting boring! we need stuff to do, let's ask people questions! it seemed pretty in character for him and it meant i could drag in any character while still mostly speaking as c!tommy since i knew him best plus, i find him the easiest to draw so that just helps (if you're doing drawings for your ask blog - many don't, some do! i just enjoyed drawing for it and also thought that if i added something most other ask blogs didn't do, it might be noticed more which seemed to work for me) when it comes to the dsmp timeline for ctommyasks, i personally don't have anything written out/concretely set, but if you want to keep things in order, you can make a bullet point timeline of your version of drista just to keep track! i just chose a point in time where i wanted to start, drew tommy, and built off that! i have a loose idea of some things in my head and relationships with other characters, but everything is subject to change really if you wanna look at any other blogs for inspiration, ive seen quite a lot of dsmp ask blogs over the years but my final push into actually making one was @snowchester01 ! so id definitely recommend theirs along with @tubbo3091 who's, from what ive seen, pretty iconic among the dsmp ask blogs for portraying c!tubbo really well edit: i also chose one art style to stick with for the blog because unless your reality is just shifting like that the way it looks isn't gonna change dramatically every few days but that's also not something you have to do. again, it's your blog, have fun with it! just a personal preference for mine

damn, finally some good news ^^ I had Pulmonologist appointment and heart USG yesterday and both turned out fine, everything is good 👍 I need to have those regularly due to my illnesses and Im always happy to hear everything is fine ^^ especially that ~month ago I got awfully ill and I had pain while breathing and my heart was pounding so I had to get it checked cause it could turn out to be something bad. btw I still dont know what exactly that was but thankfully now Im feeling fine ^^

today Im resting cause I was exhausted after coming back so I went to sleep before 8pm yesterday and today I still need some rest cause I dont have too much energy. But Im doing great, lately everything starts to get better :3

btw, I must share something funny, we got my husband an office chair for cheap but it squeaks like hell and he told me today he would like to get a new one. So  when I was taking out the trash I was thinking that if I would find some office chair I would sit on it and call my husband… and when I got into the trash room THERE IT WAS. Office chair. So I sat on it and called him ;D he went there to check it out and took it back home. What I can say, you are welcome darling XD Im aware that most people dont believe in such things but I feel I have some degree of clairvoyance. I dont want to claim how good it is cause idk and Im not one to assess it ;p

Obvious answer: my lovely mutuals inspire me a lot. CURRENTLY am having a bit of a love for Vincent van Gogh's painting style because we talked abt him in school again recently... the way he painted is so crunchy. Which! did inspire me to take a shot at painting (which is going FINE so far. my paitings..)

Answered here! But I also like how I draw character interaction a lot. This is consistently also what people say they like about my art so must be doing something right there!

10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistant hobby?

Definitely just watching cartoons a lot growing up. When I saw stuff like Teen Titans, ATLA/LOK, Adventure Time and Steven Universe I always went "I WANNA DO THAT!!!!!!" which inspired me to draw like a lot!! Never actually properly animated anything

15. Biggest artist pet peeve?

MMmmm. Maybe when people delete art video tutorials? Like! I understand updating an art tutorial because you learned new things, but I'd argue it's good to keep it to kind of show you improved, how, and maybe incorporating that into the new vid. (can you tell a tutorial i had saved to watch later got removed)
