My favorite video game is this obscure game for Super Nintendo called EVO: Search for Eden, which I consider to have been waaaaaay ahead of its time.

It's a sidescroller RPG from 1992 that tasks you with evolving as much as you can throughout time to eventually join the Sun's daughter Gaia, the personification of Earth, in Eden and start a new era.

You start out as a fish, but by the end of the game, you can be any number of things. Heavy themes of survival of the fittest (which doesn't have to mean being a big tank) and choice, having the courage to change with the times and adapt to new situations.

It also has such great replay value! There are countless ways to evolve, especially as you get further in the game. I like that there isn't only one strategy or one "correct" evolution to beat the game.

There are a wide variety of body types and parts to evolve at any given time, which all come with their own pros and cons and may change how you eat/fight. The options are subject to change with each new "era" of time you're transported to, not to mention the special temporary evolutions you get with a crystal (interesting subplot of bioengineering vs. the natural order).

There are also plenty of fun secrets and Easter eggs for the curious who like to explore! It's also got what I consider lovely music for its time, mostly very peaceful and calming, sometimes quirky or nerve-wracking (you'll come to fear the boss battle music).
