wait?? do people actually think this?? EXCUSE me??? abso-fucking-lutely NOT. excuse the tangent, and it has been a few years since we've watched both the series and the movie, however:
people tend to forget that, even without the hair, princess rapunzel is still the embodiment of the sundrop itself. if we're talking STRICTLY within the realm of magic, she still has capabilities beyond the "magic hair" schtick. are we forgetting the healing capabilities, demonstrated when she quite literally brought eugene back from the death, after cutting her hair? does that just... not count, or..?
and, putting that aside, she's so emotionally intelligent it makes me ill. like, literally, never met someone who could turn anything around quite like she could. her expertise as a princess- despite a few setbacks, all of which she made up for one way or another- extends beyond what would be traditionally expected. rapunzel has always been extremely resourceful; she taught herself so much up in that tower, more than even i would've ever been able to do.
astronomy? in the medieval ages? give or take some fantastical elements, it was still a very complex subject to tackle. the princess knew more about astronomy than anyone i'd met, myself; a lot of the theories i can remember her telling me about still apply to today's understanding of the subject. now, granted, some of that can be coming from our brain filling in information with what we knew at the time -- but i digress. my point is, alongside emotional intelligence, there was clear scientific intelligence as well; her understanding of the world was only made more impressive once you remember, again, she grew up completely isolated from the world with very little resources to actively look into anything beyond what gothel wanted her to know (which was, predictably, very little). that's without considering the things a princess- then queen- needs to understand about the world, geographically, politically, all that.
the only context in which i could see her having trouble in would've been understanding "common sense"; which, if she's "useless" because of that, i get a baaaadddd vibe. rapunzel is very very clearly neurodivergent-coded in my eyes, i.e. the second episode of the series, wherein she didn't actually understand the concept of someone disliking her. just... i dunno. do you get why it'd rub me the wrong way?
my point is: nuh uh. nope. no. we're not doing this. nooooooope. no tolerance policy
I am in need of assistance
My friend(ignorant) is insisting that Rapunzel is “useless because she doesn’t have her magic hair anymore.”
I need everyone-I mean everyone-who comes into contact with this to reblog if you agree that Rapunzel is useful, amazing, beautiful, and imperfect in her own human way, to prove my friend wrong. SERIOUSLY, LOOK AT HER!
