An Iron Giant reference in Lies of P?

Yet another thing I realized during my NG+ run: When you enter the Grand Exhibition, right in front of the Stargazer, there's a model of a Puppet of the Future with a plaque that reads:

"Puppets of the Future; The iron giants that will lead us into a new era"

When I first came across this, I humorously thought about The Iron Giant, the animated movie from 1999 (and one of my favorite animated movies ever). However, while I assumed it was just a funny coincidence back then, I'm now wondering whether it might actually be a deliberate reference.

The movie is about a huge robot that came from outer space and landed on Earth, but doesn't have any memory of where he came from or what his purpose is. A young boy named Hogarth finds him and the two become friends, with the Iron Giant learning about emotions and empathy over time. However, while Hogarth knows that the Giant is a gentle creature and doesn't mean harm to anyone unless he's provoked, the American government only sees a potential threat that has to be eliminated.

It's a very touching and emotional movie, and the director Brad Bird, who's the mind behind Pixar classics such as The Incredibles and Ratatouille, conceptualized the movie after his sister had been shot by her estranged husband. From this tragic experience and after reading the novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, Bird developed the idea that would be at the center of The Iron Giant: What if a weapon had feelings? What if a gun had a soul, and decided it didn't want to be a gun?

This core theme is present in the most significant quote from the movie by Hogarth:

"You are who you choose to be."

And what better way to summarize the entire essence of Lies of P's story than this?

You both are strangers, maybe more as time will pass, you'll get to know Grey and Grey will be able to know you. Everyone has a soft spot for somebody, but you need to earn that place, it isn't for granted, and can be easily lost. Unless you want Grey to go to prison LOL revenge!
