A Cure?
I got side tracked and wrote another thing. Although this time I don’t know if I could fit it into a chapter, so it might just be a FSSAU setting drabble. This scene won’t happen for some time so it’s possible either way.
It is still canon that a cure cannot be made, or at least not in the way the HEP is thinking. If the “infected” part of them dies, it will kill them as well, the same result of killing the source.
—————
Grian cuddles up to Scar as they relax outside, he’s so glad to be back, but his mind is extremely active. It doesn’t help that Scar doesn’t seem concerned about the HEP meeting that just happened, one that Grian knows he was fully present for.
He feels Scar nuzzle into his head, murmuring, “are you okay?”
Grian isn’t sure if his expression gave him away or if he let his feelings seep into the hivemind. He sighs, “I’ve just been thinking about the meeting earlier.”
“Yeah?”
He takes a moment to pick his words before replying, “you know how they’re talking about a cure?” Grian doesn’t try to hide the palpable distaste in his voice at the word. “It’s just been making me think.”
There’s a moment of silence before Scar replies, “what about it?” There’s a quiet kind of fury in his voice that catches Grian off guard.
“…how possible is it?”
There’s a long enough pause for Grian to know that Scar is being cautious in his wording as well. Scar tightens his grip on him, “it’s not possible. We’re one with the mycelium now, we can’t separate from it… and why would we ever want to?”
“I would never want to, I was just curious,” Grian replies easily. It takes him longer to realize what Scar’s words truly mean. What a cure would mean. They’re one with the mycelium, it literally runs through their veins, there is no separation between them and it now. Separation from it means losing a big part of themselves, a big enough part that Grian isn’t sure he’ll live. Physically, that is. He knows he won’t be able to handle it mentally.
A so called cure ending with death… ironic, isn’t it?
