really fascinated by the wave of backlash against mincecore kids. i like some older mince (agathocles!) and while i understand that this new gen of SoCal mince might put people off there are some criticisms commonly brought up that confuse me.
1) it all sounds the same - well, yeah, but that's not a problem. a lot of goregrind sounds pretty much the same, and fucking slam was created around one specific kind of riff! i like these genres, and we create microgenre labels to describe sounds or bands that exemplify certain, often very specific qualities.
2) it's meme music - again, yeah. i understand backlash against newgen mince for not being political, but if someone wants to put a goofy cat noise in their song, who cares? trying to mandate that these more "extreme" genres take themselves seriously is sort of ridiculous to me. more importantly, the people accusing mince kids of making jokes are also listening to some of the funniest shit i've ever heard! like you can't idolize SPAZZ and then say grind can't be fun. read the song titles.
i've seen the tiktoks and the instagram clips and i get why the backlash is occurring, because it happens all the time. some new fad comes about that brings kids into the scene, there's pushback from the more established community, so the newgens branch off and enjoy their own music in their own spaces. eventually those insular groups are subsumed into the whole as the subgenre improves. like we literally did this about skramz a few years ago. yes they all dress the same and their music is bad and they're embarrassing or whatever but that is literally true about all of us so we're in no position to complain.
#the dc hardcore scene is SOOO FUCKING BORING rn bc all the bands sound the same#if some mince kids popped up i'd be happy bc we need new shit badly#not this basic ass tough guy posturing bullshit
