i really do feel i missed my calling as a gothic heroine
#i'd willfully ignore every red flag just to wander around a big old estate in the middle of nowhere barefoot in my crimson velvet robe#like yes my darling your mysteriously-vanished first wife does sound like a nightmare#i bet she did goad you into killing her#this is (mostly) a joke but also the bad feminist in me does jump out whenever i'm consuming anything gothic#i think that's why a lot of the more recent gothic novels just do not do it for me#i don't want the genre 'reclaimed' i don't want the heroine to girlboss her way out i don't want the ghosts put to rest#i want it to stay toxic. a touch horrifying.#if people are saying 'uhmm actually you shouldn't be calling this romantic' that's how you know it's gonna be good#a shout into the void
